Something I keep coming back to.. for the people whose sympathies lie with the Palestinians and think an eye for an eye and that Hamas have been pushed to act the way they have, how do you justify the brutal rape of women by Hamas?

Asking the U.N. security council to convene to discuss sexual violence report.

stomachamelon · 05/03/2024 16:35

@qunari agreed.

@Silence1 if you want to start your own thread on Zaka feel free but that's not what this thread is about. Sad that you clearly despise Jewish women so much you feel the need to nitpick on a rape thread. What happened to you?

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/03/2024 16:23

”Israeli news outlets had previously quoted survivors of the massacre saying that an Israeli tank had fired on a house where Hamas fighters were holding hostages during the lengthy battle to retake Be’eri. In an article published on Friday by The New York Times, the Israeli commander who led the fight detailed how he had authorized tank fire to end what was already an hourslong standoff — “even at the cost of civilian casualties.”

And where does it state what his motivation was? Perhaps that is in the NYT article, which I can't read as it's paywalled.

Also what the fuck does that have to do with the mass rapes?

The Day Hamas Came

No Israeli town suffered more bloodshed than Be’eri in the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7.

Do you have a non-paywalled link?

Okay, found a link. It sounds like a dreadful friendly fire incident but there is no implication that the IDF deliberately decided to murder the hostages. The report states that the Hamas commander in the house had exited it and surrendered. It reads like a tragic miscommunication.

Your accusation is actually quite shocking in light of that.

I agree it wasn’t implied that the IDF decided to deliberately murder Israeli civilians, because it was explicitly stated by the IDF commander when he gave the order to the tanks to open fire:

Maybe you can start your own thread about it.

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/03/2024 15:49

This is so blatantly obvious - you're just finding anything at all to undermine and cast doubt on the core horror, just picking away. Hamas PR department in action.

@qunari Where am I denying rape or anything else you accuse me of?

But go ahead because it shows in clear light how you react to any reasonable comments or questions.

The article about Zaka is quoting Israeli press.

I am just catching up with this thread a bit and I don't understand why people appear to be defending Zaka?
They do appear to be responsible for spreading mis-information which in turn has led to skepticism regarding information from Israel. I am assuming they were responsible for the untrue baby in the oven story which made headline news here in the Daily Mail.

I have read some of the UN report and it is absolutely horrendous.

The UN report does mention and explain how untrained volunteers (maybe Zaka?) have misinterpreted certain things. Those things then have have become stories spread all over here and elsewhere. I am being deliberately vague.

It is important that the truth is known because a little bit of untruth undermines the actual truth which is bad enough anyhow.

Yes, why would anyone be unhappy about you coming on a thread about rape denial to deny rape, posting links from a website full or articles about how all Zionists are evil and Jewish people are the real terrorists and Netanyahu isnt even Jewish and also Jewish people don't exist anyway. It would be funny if it wasn't so depressing.

No that's not the full story as told by the hostage. The two surviving hostages who wrote demanding an investigation and the reason why there now is one.

appears IDF did shoot people to prevent them becoming hostages?

Evidence for this?

Of course There is this incident finally being investigated after the testimony of two hostages Israeli Army Probing Death of 12 Hostages in Kibbutz Be'eri House Shelled on Orders of Senior Officer - Israel News - Haaretz.com

The families had to stop the house being knocked down so a proper investigation could happen.

There is the incident if the commander ordering fire on his own base and soldiers.
There's more and if you are genuinely interested I am sure you can find it. Just watch out for the fake stuff.

A good point.

I wish someone would define what they mean by this word "proportionate" that keeps being trotted out.

This was at the top of a google search:
"When armed forces engage in conflict, they must carefully consider the balance between achieving their military objectives and minimizing harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure. The principle of proportionality prohibits attacks on military targets that would cause excessive collateral damage—such as loss of civilian lives, injuries, or damage to civilian objects—compared to the direct military advantage anticipated from the attack.
In other words:
Military commanders must weigh the importance of their objectives against the likelihood of civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.
The effects of warfare methods and means used should not be disproportionate to the military advantage sought.
This principle aims to limit harm caused by military operations and ensure that the impact on civilians remains reasonable and justifiable within the context of armed conflict. It’s a delicate balance that seeks to protect both military interests and civilian well-being."
I hope this answers your question.

Littlebowiepeep · 05/03/2024 07:51

EsmaCannonball · 25/10/2023 19:38

I wonder if the people who demand that Israel, above all, be proportionate would be happier if fewer Palestinians were killed but were killed in the exact same manner as Hamas killed the Israelis?

A good point.

Pramila Patten, UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict has finally said there is “clear and convincing information” of rape and sexualized torture on 7 October and also against hostages.

It only took 5 months.

Finally, will the deniers see this though. Some twist themselves in knots saying it didn't happen.

@stomachamelon I think it was this article, now behind a paywall

A very quick skim read of other articles tonight suggest that it was not an Israeli Govt plant but this hostage family who say

"The Mor family and two other hostages’ families founded the Tikva Forum, a loosely organized group whose public members are mostly religious and right-wing. They share the belief that military pressure, not an immediate cease-fire or hostage release deal, is the best way to bring their loved ones home.
Mor said his critics can’t understand how he could put his ideology above the natural response to seek the safe return of loved ones. He and others in the forum say they are being rational and that their critics are being led by their emotions."
