To be horrified re the 2000+ children killed in Gaza.

The news tonight was unbearable.
I am sickened that the West is not calling for a ceasefire or some restraint.
I found out today that Gaza is almost exactly the same size as the small Hebridean island of Jura. But whereas Jura has a few hundred residents, Gaza has 2.4 million packed in. You couldn't throw a stone into Gaza without it hitting someone, never mind a missile.
The children of Gaza are not terrorists and I wish Israel would stop.

@Lovepeaceunderstanding you can have compassion for both the victims of the terror attack and innocent Palestinian children/citizens. The two things are not mutually exclusive

This. Innocent people dying is always awful, especially when they are children.

Hamas are evil. They specifically chose to kill civilians. They stood in front of children and the elderly and chose to kill them. Now they are using innocent Palestinians as human shields.

I wish Israel would stop their missiles and allow humanitarian aid in. But I don’t have any answers on how they can do this without allowing Hamas to attack them again.

Coughingdodger · 25/10/2023 08:57

It’s so odd. We’re watching innocent people being murdered live on TV night after night and no one is stopping it.

A ceasefire would need to be from both sides: Hamas are currently firing a lot of rockets daily into Israel. These are 'home made' rockets and about a third are landing back on Gaza, killing their own people.

The bombs of the Israeli air force cause a great deal more death and destruction than those home made rockets do.

Not when they hit a hospital car park. That Gazan made rocket apparently 'killed 500'. Though experts have said that is impossible given the scene.

Tonkerbea · 25/10/2023 08:53

Anyone who thinks YABU, that excuses the murders of babies and children in the hunt for Hamas, needs to worry about their moral compass.

And I feel deep sorrow for the victims of 7/10, which horrifically included children too, but the punishment metered out in response, to innocent civilians, is wrong on every level. There is no excuse for the war crimes taking place right now.

Prescottdanni123 · 25/10/2023 08:51

I know our priminster is a gormless wonder, but even I was surprised that he told Israel that he 'hopes they will win'. Don't get me wrong, I hope they get the hostages back. I hope there will be peace between both Israel and Palestine, although I don't know how this will be achieved. But no one fucking wins in war. Its not a game of football. When thousands die on both sides, no one can honestly call that a fucking win. Fucking awful choice of words.

Lookatmytoes · 24/10/2023 23:08

It’s horrific. The deaths on both sides are an abomination. The continued killing of Palestinian children grotesque.

I admired the words of the Israeli pensioner who was released today. Her gesture of peace towards those who had held her hostage had so much humanity and wisdom. Would that both sides could show these qualities.

Wasn't she amazing? Made me a bit tearful, and I'm not given to weepiness at all, generally.

Actually that’s not a good analogy as Hamas did kill Israeli children so the provocation was more than a woman hitting a man.

@SoShallINever , I am horrified by your apparent lack of compassion for the victims of Hamas terrorism.

If countries routinely bombed the fuck out of places where terrorists were active, the UK would have bombed Northern Ireland.

Setting aside the moral considerations of bombing civilians because of the actions of a terrorist group for a moment, I think it's likely to make things worse in the long run. They're creating generations of Palestinians who will have a long standing hatred for Israel which is bound to make things worse in the future.

I'm also appalled that they've cut off the water and fuel for the generators.

If hamas are hiding in qatar why arent they being infiltrated ?? Is qatar untouchable?? The ME at the moment is a tinderbox waiting to explode. Its frightening

Expect the excellent Israeli intelligence services are working on it right now - but these things often take a long time, it took years to track down Osama Bin Laden

And doing anything too obvious to Qatar's esteemed guests on Qatari soil really could blow up the ME

Maybe better for Israel to join the ICC and bring a case there?

Coughingdodger · 25/10/2023 08:34

Anna Botting on Sky News a couple of days ago interviewed an Israeli minister who basically said, well, the British bombed Iraq and no one complained so why can’t Israel bomb Gaza? Why are the rules different for Israel?
While he had a point, that is the mentality you’re dealing with.

Are you one of the 19% who think it's okay to continue killing children like this?

You know it's possible to have sympathy for Israeli children and Gazan children too

It doesn't have to be either/or

WHERE did I say I think any of this was ok?

I said that looking at the first images and reports on the 07th December, it was obviously the start of a war. I do blame the terrorists for knowingly starting it.

Where did I say I supported a war

How the hell to extrapolate and accuse me of cheering for kids being murdered is beyond me.

It is absolutely horrific. I also wonder at what point the killing of innocents will stop!
How will they know they have eradicated Hamas? How many deaths equate to Israel’s safety and retribution?

Hamas are a terrorist group. They are not creating WW3. Not without the help of whole nations anyway. Get a grip.

don't be naive, they are a terrorist group which is the low of the low, but they knew very well what they were doing, they very obviously had backing.

What exactly do you think they expected Israel to do after the massacres of the 07th?

Out of curiosity, what would you have advised the country to do?

I can't help feeling anything but disgust for anyone defending one side or the other frankly or anyone cheering for murdered children, but factually, things are going the way Hamas planned on them going. Murders and bombing was the start of a war.

You can't compare with the blowing of the old Bailey, or any of the terrorists attack experienced recently in Europe.

Israelis want peace, as do some from Gaza, I would hope, however Hamas will settle for nothing other than the destruction of Israel.

Returning the hostages, including the children, and diplomatic peace negotiations would go a long way, but that would never happen while Hamas is in power. Just read their charter if in any doubt.

it’s creating generations of hatred
sadly the hatred has been there for decades already, haven't you seen the reports, all the videos of all these crowds of people publicly cheering after the 07th October?

Whatever your opinion towards Israel, cheering terrorists, the murder of innocents and the start of a war is not something human being should be able to do.

and is in real danger of dragging us into another World War.
I think Hamas has managed just that already, what else could they want?

I don't know if there is a solution, but worst, I am not sure anyone who matters knows either. It looks like we're past the "stop bombing" stage, it's beyond frightening.

Bouncyball23 · 25/10/2023 08:22

It's awful what makes it even worse if it can be is them being told go south getting there then being bombed and seeing them all at the borders trying to flee but no one will let them out! Israel wants the death off everyone not just hammas the children are dying or left with no one and nothing it's heartbreaking.

Hamas should stop hiding away among civilians.

I thought Hamas is hiding in the underground tunnels. If that is the case, how is the bombing targeting Hamas?

Worddance · 25/10/2023 08:18

Livelovebehappy · 25/10/2023 00:05

Neither of us could come close to knowing what the people of Israel are currently going through. This isn’t that their country has been bombed. They’ve been attacked in the most horrific way by a bunch of savages who have raped, tortured, kidnapped, murdered and mutilated families. If Hamas aren’t killed, then they will return and continue what they started. Do you really think if the bombing stopped tomorrow, that all would be good, and Hamas would just retreat back to their hideaways in Gaza? They would see it as a weakness. Israel have absolutely no options here but to continue to protect their people.

It's not true. There are many options to behave in a more humane and less morally reprehensible way. Hamas won't be destroyed like this. It will be fed like this as a generation of Palestinians witness oppression followed by a genocide. I sympathise deeply with what happened in Israel and their position now but bombing children is not the answer. I don't think anyone has the right to behave like this in peace or war. Israel is playing into the hands of a wider agenda and the women and children of Gaza are paying for it with their blood.

Who armed Hamas? Technically it would be more helpful to bomb them if bombing is the answer.

The lack of humanitarian corridors, ceasefires and aid is an outrage as much as the initial massacre was an outrage.

Ahfeckingfeckit · 25/10/2023 08:17

‘What else could they want?’

Indeed. So why give it to them? Along with politicised young people ready to fight back against Israel.
Israel’s reaction will do for Hamas recruitment what Bloody Sunday is for IRA recruitment.

Ahfeckingfeckit · 25/10/2023 08:14

‘and is in real danger of dragging us into another World War.

Hamas are a terrorist group. They are not creating WW3. Not without the help of whole nations anyway. Get a grip.

the IRA blow up the Old Bailey. The U.K. government reacts by carpet bombing Belfast. The Irish government protest. The US step in and tell the U.K. to stop or else. The U.K. continue to decimate Catholic areas of Belfast, and Derry claiming they need to root out the IRA ( who, by the way, have moved south of the border). Now thousands are dead.
The Irish government say enough is enough.
The U.K. send in more Paras to NI with the backing of France, Germany… and tell the Irish and Americans to piss off and mind their own business. It has a right to protect itself against attacks and has decided to get rid of these terrorist for once - and besides the attack was completely‘unprovoked’ wasn’t it?

The USA decides to use its power to prevent more shelling of NI cities… and moves warships off the coast of Western Ireland.

THATs how conflicts escalate into regional wars - not because a terrorist group successfully attacks somewhere.

Looking at my tiny newborn son, who gets his Jewish heritage from me, and wondering exactly how anyone can think that the murder of innocent children can be justified as a form of revenge.

If so, exactly how many babies are appropriate collateral for murders committed by adults?

Some posters need to take a look at themselves.
