Yep they are doing something. The issue is it isn't quite enough and sometimes questionable. I sathat as the auntie of a police officer. I am not anti police at all. I do have concerns about how they handle things on occasion though.

I'm kind of losing steam for raising objections to Hamas propaganda on MN, it's exhausting. No one listens and I feel bullied.

Edited to add: I was briefly kicked out for a post asking how we can tell who is Hamas and who is non-Hamas, given that thousands of "innocent Gazan civilians" are confirmed to have enthusiastically participated in the horrors of 7 Oct and there was open celebration in the streets around the world; and also Hamas's objective to create a global Islamic state, not just destroy Israel. Given that these are the most horrific terrorist attacks I can remember (I'm in my 60s), I was hoping for reassurance that no, indeed, there are Palestinians - even just a tiny group of them - who have gathered somewhere in the world to demonstrate against the attacks ("Not in my name / this is not Islam" or whatever)... Instead, I got the pat aggressive response about babies and children and women and elderly and disabled being carpet bombed (even though common sense = if Israel was carpet bombing, there would be nothing left of Gaza by now). I don't know, it seems impossible to discuss on here in any rational way.

Feel despondent as an outside observer (so far!), would hate to be Jewish at the moment.

"Man, 60, fined £200 after hurling racist abuse at Orthodox Jewish man in North London bakery

A man who hurled racist abuse at an orthodox Jewish man at bakery in North London has been fined £200. Kevin Joseph, 60, of Northumberland Park, in Tottenham, pleaded guilty to religiously aggravated intentional harassment at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 18.

Joseph launched the tirade against his victim, who was dressed in traditional orthodox Jewish clothing, at a bakery on Clapton Common Road, threatening him and using anti-Semitic language at around 9:30am on Tuesday (October 17), the Crown Prosecution Service says.

He was later arrested and prosecuted at court within 24 hours, where the court heard the victim's impact statement, read by Jewish community leader Dr Dave Rich, and evidence from Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway. After hearing their statements, touching on the effects of hate crime, the bench deemed the offence so serious the fine was increased from £120 to £200.

"There is simply no place for hate of any kind on the streets of London," Chief Crown Prosecutor Jaswant Narwal said, as she promised to support victims and prosecute racists when the legal test is met. CPS London North Hate Crime Lead Varinder Hayre also warned the service would seek sentence uplifts to come down hard on 'dangerous and corrosive' hate crimes."

As a Muslim, I would be tempted to spit at anyone removing a poster of a hostage or any innocent civilian who died (I wouldn’t because I am not an aggressive unhygienic sort). What a deeply unpleasant thing to do. Especially whilst smiling. Where has humanity gone?? Appalling.

One of my junior colleagues experienced some antisemitism on a work chat last week. We decided to not waste time and take it to the very ‘top’ of our organisation to deal with it. He said he felt supported and ‘safe’ which is as it should be. We have to lead from the top and show that we won’t tolerate any prejudice, including antisemitism.

I shared with him some stories of the Islamophobia I experienced after 9/11 and he felt understood because he said I must know ‘exactly’ how he was feeling right now. We all actually have a lot in common with each other beneath all the hate.

You are very right the Jewish and Muslim communities do have so much in common. We share some many similar experiences. I tend to find at work apart from other Jewish people my Muslim colleagues get my life experiences best. If people could only understand that division between are communities and those that seek to divide are the issue. We just have to all stand firm and not let hate crimes and acts of hate become the norm.

The elephant in the room is that some people have decided to look the other way because they think it somehow saves Gaza

Therefore Jew hating idiots feel they are free to abuse and dehumanise Jews or Jewish places/things

You can say oh because of the conflict people hate Jews. However antisemitism pre dates 1948 by a couple of thousand years. People are currently just swallowing up the latest round of properganda, most of which was first used in Russia before 1948. Hamas and supporters have literally just changed the odd word here and there!

Yes most Jews I know are like your cousin and very left thinking, challenge wrongs etc. This is very saddening and horrible. People have been standing up for other minority groups and injustices all their lifes. Yet most these organisations they have helped won't stand up against hate crimes against Jews. They won't speak out and just say that hating Jews is as wrong as hating other minorities.

And yet please say why do Jews need......(Will let you fill in the missing word)

They had some pretty scary physical attacks in New York during and after the 2021 conflict. Don't like to think what it is like their for Jewish people at the moment.

One of my cousins (a typical liberal leftie Jew from New York) moved last year to South Carolina and has stocked up on loads of guns. He has lost all faith in the 'liberal' establishment in the US to stand up for him or his family. It's particularly heartbreaking when he, like the vast majority of my relatives, is someone who has always fought for social justice, equality, civil rights, etc. But when it comes to justice, equality, civil rights for Jews, no one else there is standing with them.

The amusing smiles get to me every time. Seriously it takes a lot of myself control not to go into the city and guard some of these posters (Like some mad old lady!)

I have a very loud whistle and can put on a pretty good school mistress voice. The sods wouldn't now what had hit them. If I can handle seventy year 10 students at school, these idiots would be no problem.

Not going to do it because that would be unprofessional of me but oh I would like too

The Muslim Community are seeing a smaller rise but still a rise in these hate crimes too. Once people see others getting away with stuff they think they can behave how they want too. These hate crimes will spread unless dealt with properly.

"A petrol can thrown into the car park of a mosque is being treated as a potential hate crime, police have said.

Thames Valley Police said the empty red petrol can was hurled over a wall into the Oxford Mosque and Islamic Cultural Society on Saturday morning.

It was thrown from near the main entrance by a cyclist who is believed to have ridden from Cowley Road.

The petrol can had writing on it that "may be related to the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza", police said."

So: was the issue that people put up posters you disagreed with? Tore the same down? Put up the "other" posters? "None of the above"- I have just utterly and completely misunderstood?

In either case: I have reported the post with the pictures, on the grounds that - even though I have no idea who and what these people are supposedly for or against and in the spitit of "our human rights must not be infringed upon": while I have no evidence as to who or what these people are supposedly for or against: I cannot support witch hunting on the internet! That would happen to include "even if they are on the side I support"!

I have also, in the same spirit, NOT reported the post without pictures of people - even though I really do not grasp what it is for or against - but it does not harm anyone, so that IS fully okay!
