Palestinians had nothing to do with the Holocaust and this is the issue. Israel thinks all its actions can be justified by what happened in Europe.

Also there are over 147,000 holocaust survivors in Israel. I imagine the reasons why they are there make them 'quite cross'.

Living memory? Real life people, still alive now had their homes removed and have been forced to live in an area that's too small with insufficent resources. It can't be a surprise that they're quite cross.

The thing to remember is that lots of Tory MPs, lots of Labour MPs also want to see a ceasefire on humanitarian grounds.

@Foodorder so when does it suit you to go back? If you look at when most countries in that area were formed .... Qatar? Bahrain? Saudi? It's in keeping with what was going on in the area.

Emirates for example a young country but whose history can be traced back thousands of years. See where I am going with this?

If we're going back a millennium, most Brits shouldn't be here and America would have an entirely different population.

@AppleCottageCores they govern Palestine and they want what exactly? To rid the area from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan of Jews. Which leave Israel where? If they lay down arms will they get the hostages back or peace in that area?

Then what? A ceasefire both sides? It won't stop until Hamas go.

@Foodorder why am I the one brainwashed? Also Israel predates Palestine by more than a millennium. Then the Jews were displaced and it because Palestine and predominately Arab.

The issue is really of Israel lay down arms and agree to peace will Hamas and the Palestinians because history has shown us it's unlikely to be the case.

@Foodorder the awful conditions that have been imposed are by Hamas though surely. They get billions of dollars in aid and squander the opportunity to improve life on gazas by using it to buy weapons so they can carry on taking potshots at Israel and planning its destruction.

When Israel withdrew the infrastructure was good. Water sanitation plants and decent hospitals. They also continued to provide Gaza with goods although they didn't have too. They have systematically destroyed Gaza internally whilst committing atrocities against Israel. I am at a loss to understand why elements of the west hold Israel to account but refuse to hold Hamas in the same accord.

I would love a ceasefire but what does that look like for Israel? In light of this situation? Does it solve the problem that they have tried numerous times to rectify with a murderous government intent on their demise. Whilst the sharks circle eg Hezbollah. I feel they have no choice but to rid Gaza of Hamas once and for all.

That is disgusting behaviour. Unfortunately there are youths who are stupid disrespectful idiots (not my original choice of word) everywhere in the world. Tik tok gives them an audience. And sadly this is also what they have grown up seeing others do - videos of Arabs celebrating and mocking Jewish deaths every time there is a terror attack. Tit for tat and the world goes to hell.

You ask why more Jews don't stand up and protest for peace....quite frankly every Jew I know including myself is deeply traumatized and grieving. Struggling to eat, sleep and deal with the news. And because of antisemitism are currently scared to stand up as Jews in public. There are only 270,000 Jews in the UK....with protests of 100,000 people waving Palestinian flags and many supporting Hamas...how safe would anyone feel?

Yes but when other conflicts, and genocides by some terrible regimes, are all but ignored, and the only time that you get 100,000+ protestors protesting about it in multiple cities around the world is when there is a chance to blame Israel, that IS anti semitism.

I work in East London in a very multicultural office surrounded by well educated Muslims, Jews and an Israeli Christian. The conversation has been enlightening and lively. Everyone has very strongly held views as you'd expect, but I do find I'm struggling to understand why Israeal is the "good guy" in all of this.

I don't know why the West automatically sides with them, I don't mean over this current escalation where you could argue Hamas started it, but the whole conflict and situation.The awful conditions that have been imposed on Palenstinians for decades. A lot of funding for the IRA came out of the US. It wasn't a conicidence that the IRAs activities wound up after 9/11 when the Americans launched their War on Terror.
