Wow. I realise these incidents are on the up but that’s so blatant. She goes on to dissemble:

She continued: “I do not support the killing of civilians, of course, but I support Hamas and Palestinians’ rights to stand up for themselves.”

She openly supports Hamas. This is a medical student. She also stated that the banner referred to the Israeli government not Jewish people or Israelis in general. Yeah, alright love, pull the other one it has got bells on…

I’m not sure what I’m asking here- just so shocked to see this.

‘It’s against the Israeli government’: Student Marie Andersen tries to defend vile anti-Semitic sign after global fury

Norwegian medical student Marie Andersen has attempted to defend her anti-Semitic poster as she insisted it was about the "Israeli government" while it showed the Star of David being binned next to the words “keep the world clean”.

Probably that symbol meant to government but not people.

No. It can only mean one thing.

etmoietmoietmoi · 25/10/2023 12:23

Dan Hodges posted this before. Must be awful for Jewish residents to witness this

Keep the World Clean??? I've no time for the Israeli government but WTAF?

Yes, I saw an image of it at the London march, it's on Tracy Ann Oberman's x account.

Bloody hell. That's appalling.

Stick her in the bin!

Stomacharmeleon · 24/10/2023 20:31

@Xenia I agree but probably not in such an eloquent way. I have always been a Labour supporter but even i have doubted the 'you have to agree on everything or your cancelled' angle such as with gender politics.
I won't be told what to believe.

Healthy debate has disappeared. Opposing views are ok.

One of the long standing problems with English law has been doing some things is illegal if it creates a breach of the peace. That is why is you go swimming naked on your own in a mountain lake you don't break the law but if you try walking naked down Oxford Street you might be. It is the reaction of those around you that can decide if the police act or not which has always felt very wrong to me. Eg if people in a public area of the UK don't like me showing bare arms that should not mean I have to cover my arms. Similarly if in a 99% non muslim area people don't like to see muslim head covering it shouldn't be wrong to wear it just because you are in a group of people who don't like it. In other words force should not prevail over right.

It is why I support the right to burn of the koran, bible or anything else (which is lawful) in some countries in Europe where the police go out and allow the burning even if violent muslim and other protestors around are not happy about this. However when people go over the boundary into breaking the law such as calling to kill all the jews then the law does prohibit threats to kill.

I hope the police would be as accommodating of 100,000 jews marching in London in support of Israel as much as they let 100,000 people some chanting for jihad have their demonstration.

Yes, police powers to prevent public order offences are in practice mob rule enforced by the State as and when it sees fit. The government could end that, if it wanted to, by placing limits on those powers. It chooses not to.

You won't get 100,000 people to march in London in support of Israel, short of something truly apocalyptic happening. And mob rule is largely a numbers game.

Xenia · 24/10/2023 20:20

Crunching even though I vote Tory, I agree with your point. I have noticed what used to be the liberal left become the intolerant (woke) left. There used to be more a fight for freedoms eg I was appalled the left supported covid lock downs - it would never have done so in the past. The left seems to have lost its way in having "one right view" rather than being a broad church of tolerance of different view points (and I am not suggesting we Tories are perfect on this either).

I have watched antisemitism creeping into the mainstream, particularly via the "anti imperial" left (who don't understand what imperialism is) and it's been a slow but powerful process.

I would have always considered myself left leaning and was comfortable with that. There was some issues I would have disagreed with the stance of the left and that used to be okay. However, the mainstream left has changed and they make me increasingly uncomfortable. In order to be part of the left you must agree with them on all issues and any dissent means you are a far right fascist. I just don’t agree that you can take any conflict in Middle East and have clear bad guys and good guys. Too much has happened there and too many innocents have lost their lives.

Some of the wording people use makes it sound like the Jews don’t belong there and portrays them as colonists. If they don’t belong there where do they belong. The Palestinians also belong there. Both people should get to live their lives in peace and prosperity.

However, the question that I keep coming back to is that if Israel are to be seen as anyway weak or let attacks on them slide will the Jewish people be safe from their neighbouring countries? That is why I have always felt a bit uncomfortable by the lefts position on this conflict. Having said that I don’t want innocents anywhere to suffer and die.

To me it looks like a resolution in the region is further away than ever before.

Basically in my long ramble what I am trying to say is I think it’s incredibly dangerous when as a society we take on opinions or beliefs because they align with our politics. It’s becoming apparent how some of the atrocities of the past occurred tbh and it looks plausible for them to happen again.

Also there's a homophobic atmosphere! I went with a female friend & the travel agent had accidentally booked us a double room.
The hotel manager's attitude was downright hostile towards us until we asked for (and got luckily) a twin room.
It was an expensive chain hotel too.

lookingforMolly · 24/10/2023 11:57

I hate to say this but not surprised this happened in Poland - when I visited Krakow in 2019 I was shocked to find (after visiting Auschwitz Birkenau!) souvenir shops in the city centre with small figurines that were unpleasant caricatures of Jews with coins.

Also on visiting the Schindler factory taxi drivers who thought we were Jewish (and therefore as the prejudice goes have more money) tried to rip us off but a short walk away the price for the same journey was half! Etc etc.
I liked Krakow but that kind of thing was not nice.

Obviously not saying all Poles are anti semitic!

ChalkWitch · 24/10/2023 11:56

I hope they kick her out, we don’t need medics like that.

OP posts:
Catlord · 24/10/2023 11:41

Goodness me. I hope her university deal with this strongly.

ChalkWitch · 24/10/2023 11:32

@LemonyTicket yes! I cannot work out that re-posting deal yet but yes to the fact that other marchers did indeed do more than nothing. Tacit acceptance is not nothing.
@inamarina I am fed up and sickened by how many people say ‘Yes, what happened on the 7th of October was awful, BUT..’ and then go on to justify it because open air prison, years of oppression, land grabbing Israelis etc (delete as appropriate).
If these people really cared about the Palestinians why aren’t they demanding a better govt for them that is elected in (you know recently not over a decade ago), demanding their own govt. stop using them as human shields, demanding their govt.spend foreign aid on infrastructure not fecking weaponry.
palestinians deserve better than that, but strangely they are silent on these points and revert back to years of oppression, persecution etc.
Also, if you want to talk about years of oppression and persecution then I think Jewish people are at the top of that list unfortunately.
I’ve just seen another rather hysterical OP start a thread insisting that Palestinians welcomed Jews to the Holy Land in 1947… the level of ignorance around this subject is actually breathtaking. In a bad way.

They don't just do nothing. It's worse than that.

I guarantee if there was someone standing next to her with an Israeli flag, they would consider this woman branding this genocidal antisemitic message as the "good one" and the Israeli supporter as the "bad one". Such is their prejudice they have now lost all ability to see right from wrong.

Hence here so many of them are reframing burning babies, rape and cold blooded murder of innocent civilians as "resistance". There is no form of "resistance" that actually looks anything like that, but their prejudice against the ole star of David is now so deeply ingrained, we have almost become monsters in their eyes - undeserving of even basic empathy.

I have watched antisemitism creeping into the mainstream, particularly via the "anti imperial" left (who don't understand what imperialism is) and it's been a slow but powerful process.

Bit by bit, each person contributes their little bit - subtle, but chip chip chip of sharing blatantly antisemitic words, images and ideas to millions via social media and making it en vogue to persecute Jews again, and it works rather like advertising.

It poisons the minds of people to generally dehumanise Jewish people to a point this woman is standing in the middle of a protest in broad daylight - purportedly advocating for HUMAN RIGHTS, whilst brandishing a sign that Goebbels himself might have felt too direct.

And I saw the video of her on Twittter explaining herself, and she has not the slightest clue what she is talking about. It's clear she keeps looking at her friend for instructions for what to say. It's clear she hasn't even got the most basic information needed to have any kind of opinion at all. Yet here she is, believing herself to be actually virtue signalling because the left wing have "made antisemitism great again".

And I am left wing myself!

This is how the majority of the population of this world was convinced for millennia that Jews were evil, bad, worthy of all the hate - simply by everyone just going along with it. How they don't feel icky, I will never know.

Hence here so many of them are reframing burning babies, rape and cold blooded murder of innocent civilians as "resistance".

I’ve noticed that too. I’ve seen an Instagram post (just one example amongst many) about people being massacred at that music festival and one of the first comments was berating the victims for being at a festival in the first place, while ‘just beyond the border people were living in an open air prison’.
Incredible, how someone can see the atrocities committed at that festival and still decide that the right thing to do is to ‘call out’ the festival goers.

I always think when there are huge marches in London... if you are there for genuinely peaceful reasons.... why cover your face with a mask or scarf and make inflammatory posters and placards.
They know nothing of this situation.....

They also won't listen to anyone else's opinion on the issue and only value opinions that match there own. Take a look at some of the mumsnet conflict threads at the I went on the pro p march people. The things they post and the way they speak to people.

It isn't very left or woke these days, those people are fascists. This is how fascists think. To me the marches contain, fascists, extremists and a small percentage of idiots that are there because it is fashionable or something. (Good for the social media account photo)

TwilightSkies · 23/10/2023 20:01

Many were marching for genuine solidarity. Many were marching to help the citizens of Gaza.

Lest we forget, eh? As if we'd be allowed to.

You want to forget about the ACTUAL genocide happening in Gaza right now? Why? Thousands and thousands of children and babies being murdered by the IDF….

The thing that most disturbed me in the policing of this issue was the event where the police told the Jewish organisation, who were driving around London in a van displaying images of the kidnapped children, to turn off their signs and go away. It was the police doing what was easiest rather than what was right.

I was pretty shocked the Met Police said people calling for Jihad on microphones could have meant a number of different things.

In context, could they? Really?

Maireas · 23/10/2023 19:47

Did you see the video of the man defacing the posters of the kidnap victims?
He wrote "coloniser" over the face of a kidnapped 2 year old. What kind of person would do that?
Others have ripped all the posters down.

You are fucking kidding?! How dare they. What an absolute shower they are. I feel so sorry for the Jewish Community. It must be sickening seeing all this hatred towards them. Again.
