What does 'ceasing responsibility for life' mean?

If Hamas surrenders, returns hostages, disbands and hands all its arms and personnel over to Israel, then I'm sure there will be a ceasefire right away.

Until then - there will be no ceasefire.

From what I understood Israel retained control of Gaza water and energy despite attempts by Palestinians to take control of it
over the years. They are now deliberately cutting off energy and water. So yes I believe this must be against international law for them to do this and even if it’s not it’s still extremely inhumane.

130 premature babies are about to die, because of Israel's siege. Without fuel the incubators will fail. I can not understand how anyone can think this is OK. Or how it is not in breach of international humanitarian law. What is wrong with people who say 'meh...who cares.' ?

No. This time Israel has 350,000 well-trained and armed soldiers ready on the Gaza border. For comparison, the entire British Army is only about 100,000.

There are definitely ulterior motives involved, I feel like even Rishi Sunak could tell what's happening is wrong on many levels, but he'd never say it in an official capacity. There will definitely be more civilians harmed and killed the longer it goes on, both Israeli and Palestinian, sadly they seem to be accepted as collateral damage now.

A huge huge turnout from people of all faiths and all walks of life, jewish faith included. There has been huge protests all over England and nationally.
The leaders all have ulterior motives. Even those who ally with Israel all have their own personal agendas on how they can benefit from it. The innocent civilians are the pawns in the game who pay the price

Ignoring the goadiness, I see there were many well-attended matches in support of Palestine throughout the UK and Ireland today - London is reported to have had over 100,000 attendees. The media is also highlighting the injustice in Gaza more and more and condemning the siege. Most world leaders won't take a stand, but maybe such public shows of support for Gaza and opposition to the way they are being treated will have an effect.

I do remember that. The best way to protect innocents is to have a very big army, and for the other side to know that you're not scared to use it.

I think you are conflating being against the Israeli government with ordinary Israeli citizens
And being pro Palestinian with supporting Hamas
I know you are hurting by what has happened especially if you live in Israel but others are in pain too

Some people on this thread are very much against Israel. That's ok. Israel is very much wining, as painful as it may be for the Palestinians.

@mushti There are children dying on both sides, your comments on the big guns is tone deaf and appalling. People on this thread aren't against Israel, they're against war. There needs to be some sort of resolution otherwise more people will die - on both sides. No one's winning right now, big guns or not.

They tried, in 1948, and in 1967, and in 1973. Israel also has thermonuclear weapons now.

Amongst all the hand-wringing and whataboutery on this thread, there's a huge lack of realism.
