Hi all,

Brand new thread!

I started it so I must get a BFP before the end - them's the rules.

OP posts:
VivClicquot · 21/07/2010 12:30

digi - I am indeed the cough medicine swigger (that's SO going on my tombstone!). I started quaffing around day 8 or 9 and noticed an effect almost immediately. I took it twice a day - once when I got up, and once before bed.

I'm going to have a mull over your styles of parenting question as I think a lot of my friends who have children all parent in a similar way - and while the vast majority seemed to conceive soon after starting to try, two have experienced fertility issues in the past. (One with an mmc as her first pregnancy and another who took over a year to conceive her first child.)

On the whole, I don't see any noticable differences in the parenting styles of those who conceived quickly and those who didn't. But then i don't really know anybody who has fallen pregnant without previously wanting children, if that makes sense...

digitalgirl · 21/07/2010 11:43

x-posted hopefully sorry about the bfn...know very much how you feel . Even when I get rtd I think perhaps it's an implantation bleed , but it's usualy quite obvious it isn't.

digitalgirl · 21/07/2010 11:32

viv are you the cough syrup swigger? I have bought some that contains the ingredient that makes you all runny. At what point in your cycle do you start quaffing?

And Agnus Castus / EPO pill poppers...do you stop taking it once you've ovulated?

moof completely understand your anxiety, but you're getting more attention from the medical bods this time so the odds are massively in your favour

LONG POST ALERT:

I have just found out that a close friend I thought never really wanted kids is now pregnant. Obviously I'm very pleased for her and wish her nothing but easy times ahead...buuuuuut (and I would never ever say this out loud in the RL) I'm feeling ever so slightly miffed about the fact that she doesn't actually want kids, still isn't sure about it and has openly admitted to planning this pregnancy from a purely practical pov. They got lucky first time, after she expected it to take months and so I've immediately felt this wall shoot up between us (she'll never know the pain and heartbreak of long term ttc). She's one of my bestest friends, but knowing that she's not really that keen on being a mother and not even had to go through of a couple of cycles trying in order to solidify in her mind that this is what she really wants makes me wonder if we'll be able to get on as 'mothers'.

Now this is probably a topic for a completely different are of MN, but the people I know in RL who've had an easy time getting pg and have scheduled their pregnancies for practicality over maternal urges all seem to have a similar attitude to parenting. They rush to get their lives back to normal post-birth: bottle feeding because it suits their schedule not because they can't breastfeed; going back to work within 6 months, not for financial reasons; able to go out for weekends away from their babies much earlier than I could. I'm absolutely NOT judging them for it, but am just wondering if they find it easier to slot their babies around them (rather than the other way round) because they never had that really intense feeling of really really wanting a child. It just happened for them. Whereas it took a lot of effort for us to conceive DS, I couldn't tear myself away from him (not saying that's a good thing), breastfed until he was 15 months because I felt it was part of my responsibility to give him the best possible start in life (not saying it is, just how I felt at the time). I'm only just about to go on a hen weekend in a few weeks time which means I'll spend my first night away from him (he'll be 2 at the end of Aug). Even though I don't judge the friends that are 'schedulers' I always get the feeling that they think I'm a bit of a shit mum who's a slave to her child and has a miserable ilfe as a result and thank god they're not me.

Sorry - probably not the right place for this post with some of ttc#1, but you ladies at least understand me on the 'struggling to ttc' side of things, even if your experience of other parents is different.

Hopefully · 21/07/2010 10:52

Did a test this morning - BFN. Am not completely giving up hope (still 3 days till AF even due), but am also feeling completely resigned to it not happening - it hasn't happened for the past 6 months, why start now? Am also feeling that sod's law will be working against us, as this is really the last month it would be sensible to TTC for a few months if we want to avoid having a newborn at our wedding. Urgh.

Will test again tomorrow in last ditch effort to find out whether to expect AF while camping (although will probably take everything anyway, as I'll be sitting there waiting to MC even if I did get a BFP...)

VivClicquot · 21/07/2010 10:31

moof - that is fab news, honey, really it is. I know it's easy to say (especially after we've both been through similar experiences where things haven't worked out well) but do try to think positive. Certainly when I was in the same boat, I was told that in the majority of cases, things work out fine and the bean ends up catching up - so what Magic says about it simply being a case of averages is true.

Good news about the next scan too. Will keep everything crossed for you.

Day 6 or 7 dpo here and I'm bored of the 2ww and just wish I could know one way or another. Am eating oodles of brazil nuts, so feel like a squirrel.

Moofold · 21/07/2010 09:46

Thanks Ivy, Loopy and 8s - I'm feeling more positive than I was yesterday. I think I am more worried aboout it because with the bean we lost I also had a scan at 7 weeks due to abdominal pain, where we also saw a heartbeat but the bean measured closer to 5 weeks than 7. The hospital have actually been very good and offered another scan 2 weeks from now. That means that I don't need to wait 5 weeks to the 12 week scan, which I had dreaded after the previous experience of finding the MMC at that point.

They also told me yesterday that there is a haematoma, which i can see on the scan pic off to the side of the bean. Does anyone have any experience of this and what it means?

Sorry, I'll stop hogging the TTC thread now!!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/07/2010 09:10

Moof* thats is great news that you saw the heartbeat. Really positive. Don't worry about the size doll, you know from having DD1 that from now on in your bean is always going to be on this centile or that centile and being compared to the average........so try to relax. Your bean will probably be gearing up for a massive growth spurt now! Will you be having another scan? xx

Viv I don't think you have peaked hun, I still think this will be your Magic8 cycle x

Bloomin 'eck Ivy what service are your photographers providing?!!!!

Oh come on, guys, you are really not helping :P Good thing I left all the peesticks in DS' tray at nursery. lol. Don't ask why, but I must go and get them tomorrow. Very much doubt it'll be BFP, because while it wasn't a proper RTD, it could have been anything - and I did have a BFN just a couple of days before... good lord, I don't want to know how much I've wasted on peesticks in the last 9 months...

Moo try not to worry. ~hugs~

hopefully I definitely know what you mean about extortionate fees - my photographer costs more than my dress, shoes, honeymoon, food and everything else put together. shudder.

Hopefully · 20/07/2010 19:33

Delilah I'm liking the idea of hiding the FMU behind the toilet... Not sure if there's room, will have to investigate! Our toilet is separate from the bathroom, but adjoining it, so not easy to hide things and/or go in unnoticed while DP is showering in the morning!

I'm meant to be finishing a quilt I'm sewing, so I'm... making a dress. Logical.

I fell pregnant first time trying with DS and with MC in January, and we're now 6 or 7 cycles on from that and no joy yet.

Ivy how exciting about your wedding! I met up with a lovely photographer today, who I'm booking, despite extortionate fee (hey, we have an unexpected free wedding venue, I've got to spend the cash somewhere )

Moofold · 20/07/2010 19:25

Delilah that beats my own personal record of 9dpo! Viv your made up stats are disheartening - please don't look at it that way. Your BFP is surely on the way since you are 8 cycles and the average is 9. So not long to go, keep the faith!

On the subject of temps when I got an increase it was usually quite distinct - about 0.3 - 0.5 higher. I did notice a dip also right before ov for a few days too.

I had my scan this morning, so far so good I guess. Baby in right place and we saw a heartbeat. The only downside was a measurement of 6 instead of 7 weeks - I am dead sure of my dates. Trying not to obssess that this means there is something wrong. Failing miserably most of the time but have taken some reassusrance - felt sick with nerves this morning. Its the only pregnancy sickness I've had so far!

Hope you are all good x

VivClicquot · 20/07/2010 17:45

Bless you delilah - I'd like some of my old luck back too, but given neither BFP amounted to a baby in the end, I can hardly say it's been a successful run. Sigh.

Lucy - that's interesting about the temps. I didn't realise that was a sign of ovulation, so that's given me some hope that I'm not a freak of nature. I had three consecutive days of super low temps on days 12, 13 and 14, a spike on 15, a drop on 16 (when I think I ov'd), then a spike, then a drop and then I've been high ever since. So I'm totally about it all.

ivy - I def think it wouldn't hurt to test...

digitalgirl · 20/07/2010 17:33

Cd1 has arrived. This cycle I will mostly be temping and chugging ac and epo.

hopefully can you not sneak a test into the loo the night before so dh won't see you carrying it in?

Lucy does this mean we're still cycle buddies?

ivy I'm sure even if you get a bfp you'll be allowed a glass of bubbly on your honeymoon!

delilahbelle · 20/07/2010 17:00

I need a slap - POAS at 7dpo with the expected result. God knows why.

Ivy I would test if I were you... and if you have 4 tests in you can get away with doing one now

lucysnowe Sorry to hear about RTD, better luck next month.

Viv I want your luck. Pregnant at 1st attempt this time round would be AMAZING. Although if I'm not I will be able to drink champagne on my wedding anniversary.

batteryhen good luck with the not testing, will keep my fingers crossed for you

hopefully If you can collect your FMU and save it (behind the toilet) you could then use it for testing once your DH had left? Not that I would do anything that obsessive, oh no....

lucysnowe · 20/07/2010 16:44

Ivy I suppose it wouldn't do any harm to check?? not helping, I know.

loopy and batteryhen there seem to have been a few posters recently who had no symptoms and were surprised by a BFP, so you never know! viv low temps before ov are good, aren't they? Some people can tell their ov day by a super low temp.

So was going to test tomorrow but am now spotting now and boobs are de-soreing themselves so think RTD has got me, alas. Will see if I can be arsed to test tomorrow... is it weird that I really hate testing and always want to leave it to the last minute?

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 20/07/2010 16:13

hi everyone, I just realised I hadn't posted for a while --- the dress I bought was the one I linked, but in ivory I'm so excited now, it's less than 4 weeks till the wedding, my dress will be ready for pickup on the 2nd of august. eeek.

Please, someone pass me a fish of some sort, I keep thinking that testing now would be a good idea - my RTD wasn't really an RTD, it was more like glorified spotting, and also a week later than expected. Keep imagining that it could have been implantation bleeding. Yeah right. I. Will. Not. Test. (she says, having bought 4 CB digis yesterday....)

Sorry to not namecheck, DS is bawling. Stupid teeth.

VivClicquot · 20/07/2010 16:10

Oh hopefully, I know exactly how you feel about not being able to imagine getting a BFP again. Which is ironic as there was a time when I couldn't imagine NOT getting a BFP.

(Two attempts. Two BFPs. So in my more crazy days, I do wonder whether I've peaked too soon and exhausted my share of the national average - ie. it takes an average of nine attempts for a woman in her early 30s to get pregnant. I got pg twice in two attempts. Which means I will have to try 25 further times before I get my 3rd BFP. Fucked up thinking, eh?)

While we're talking about temping, I'm clearly shit at it as mine are all over the place - including some very very low temps in the three days leading up to ov and no discernable cover line. I know it's my first go at this but I'm most definitely confused.com.

batteryhen · 20/07/2010 15:55

Doing the deed

There you are hopefully. I am one day behind you I think in the ovularion stakes (sorry if that sounds stalker-ish!) am only 9dpo today. Can't really help you on the temp front - I had a massive dip on Sunday - am hoping in might be implantion dip but am aware how stupid that sounds. I might test on Friday as AF is due on Saturday too. I wonder if I can hold out that long??

magic nice to see you - the yawns have you already?!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 20/07/2010 15:30

Doing the deed?

Hopefully · 20/07/2010 15:27

Ha, double cross post.

battery have managed to resist early testing thus far, but am vaguely intending to test tomorrow. BUT, only have internet cheapies that want to be submerged in wee, so much harder to do it without DP knowing, and don't want to get him excited for no reason. Wonder if I can keep my legs crossed till he leaves for work at 7:30am.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 20/07/2010 15:24

What you up to Hairy??

sorry about rtd Dig hope it comes quick so you can enjoy your holls in peace.

Loop what is DTD? Bad mush brian.

Hopefully · 20/07/2010 15:21

Afternoon everyone!

Met up with v lovely wedding photographer today, and have all but booked him, which will mean we've sorted a photographer before (a) marquee, (b) caterers, (c) the registry office. Sensible, right?

Would love to be symptom spotting (I am a whopping 10DPO after all), but have NOTHING to work with - no cramps, no aches, no spotting, no funny tastes, no nausea. I wouldn't expect PMT symptoms yet either, so really I have no inkling either way.

It's funny, I'm now at the point where I can't actually imagine getting a BFP. I'm just waiting for the inevitable BFN/RTD combo to show up so we can get back on the treadmill for another month. hippy friend would no doubt suggest that my negative attitude isn't helping me conceive, but I honestly can't actually get my head round the concept that it will ever happen now. (Which is stupid. I'm 27 and the worst case scenario is probably a big age gap, as I can't imagine that I won't ever conceive again, having produced DS and not noticed my uterus dropping out since then).

Loopy DP is always v excited at prospect of DTD on camping trips, I am always faintly horrified (DS is approximately 18 inches away the other side of a piece of nylon.) We're going on Thursday, AF is due on Saturday. I may have to test Thursday morning before we go, so I know whether to expect RTD while we're away. That's a justifiable reason for early testing, right?

Incidentally, my temps have been up over the past 2 days, by about 0.2 degrees. Is this good, bad or indifferent? I'm about 10DPO, but temps didn't show a massive shift between pre and post OV (if I didn't have CBFM as well, I'm not sure I'd have particularly noticed the rise, as I had 3 random high temps at around the CD 6-10 mark, mainly due to my crap temp taking). Any experienced tempers out there with any idea?

batteryhen · 20/07/2010 15:20

Quick post - I have stopped with all the crazy symptom spotting - I have now gone the other way and convinced my self I am so 'without symptoms' that I am not pregnant at all, and will probably never be pregnant again (see how the craziness affects me if I am left unsupervised for too long ??) Maybe I will do a crazy chicken dance to cheer myself up

My friend who has been trying to get pregnant since xmas has asked to pop over and see me tonight - I know she will tell me she is pregnant - am pleased - but I will need some deep breaths at the ready.

Sorry for the me post - hope eveyone is ok

Where is hopefully ?? Wonder if there is any early testing going on

Here you go hairy

Rtd is due either today or tomorrow. Hoping it comes today so that I've got more period-free days on holiday. Temps have dropped so I know it's due. 16 day luteal phase again, so at least I have that to rely on.

Bring on cycle 2! I'm ready for ya.

12 months of ttc this August. Not really something to celebrate, although am surprised at our stamina.
