Morning All,

We also had to put off the SA until after my peaks, Boba.

No sign of AF yet but want DH to go to have his SA tomorrow as he only works in the morning. However, he would like to know, for certain, if it is necessary, before he goes so we have agreed that I will poas tomorrow morning, vnewmummy and if its a BFN, he will go.

I don't really want to do it because if I don't have a BFN or AF then I can at least kid myself that I am pg. I know it potentially sets me up for a big disappointment but I can't help the way my mind works .

I have the day off tomorrow and DS is in nursery in the morning [I realised that I have only used two days holiday so far this year so treated myself for no reason whatsoever] so I have the rare treat of being at home on my own to watch daytime telly, drink tea and eat biscuits .

Hope everyone else is well.

boba82 · 20/05/2010 12:27

Morning vnewmummy, I'm fine thanks. Funny I really could've been doing with a sickie myself today but I run my own business so unfortunately I can't

We are now trying to SWI every other night as well. DH not going to do second sperm test until after my peaks (if I get any this month!). I think it is still good to BD on high days as well though.

Morning Boba - how you doing today?
I was not in the mood for work so phoned in sick. Nothing wrong with me, i just fancied a lazy day at home!

My plan for bding every 2nd night is going ok except i have not ovulated yet and had no peaks! Still on high and it is the first month that i have had highs for so many days. (7 so far) It is impossible to plan too much!

Hope everyone else is doing ok too.

Lychees,Eggsovereasy and Shaggy will you be POAS this weekend?

xx

Hi - babyhoping and justshaggy - like you I have come to realise need to reduce stress... interestingly I also have just bought juicer/smoothie machine and am trying to increase exercise (though cannot run, but walk/cycle/pilates are options).

Essence - it can be hard with fluids, I agree. However, the fluids in foods also counts which is good. Do you like caffeine free tea or fruit teas? I am sure pressure of ttc#2 is hard with peer pressure - certainly my friends with no2/not yet with no2 seem fixated with that. Whether first child or a sibling for other - same longings.

essenceofSES · 19/05/2010 16:52

Hello!

I can empathose with the pressure of ttc and the almost competitive nature it brings out. I was so disappointed with DS that we didn't get pg within the first few months. I'd been using the depo injection and although it had worked well for me, seemed to take 18mo to clear out of my system and for fertility to return and then I had 2 mmc.

However, I do now have DS and know I am v lucky. The competitiveness doesn't stop though! Everyone in my NCT group is discussin who'll be first to get pg again!

I hope those of you ttc#1 don't find all that insensitive. I'm really just trying to say that I understand, realise how lucky I am but am frustrated that the same old pressure is already starting!

As for a healthy diet, my main downfall is lack of fluids. I've never drunk much. I don't like water (although I go through phases of forcing myself to drink it) and the main fluid I have is caffeine free diet coke!

I take the Sanatogen mum-to-be multivits and omega3 and I'm also on thyroxine and know I need to remember to take it as it can cause problems ttc.

I also don't really do any exercise. I have an IPhone so I'm going to have a look at that ap

Sorry, I realise this has been a bit of a "me" post and I've not namechecked individually but I'm thinking of you all and hoping for a stream of BFPs

justshaggy · 19/05/2010 13:12

Hi again baby - really hope things start easing up for you. For running (if you've never done it before, which was my case), I can recommend this itouch/iphone app. It starts off really slowly, VERY manageable, and it's nice have someone talk you through. You can also play music if you want.

Fruit - Yup....I am useless when it comes to fruit as well! Apart from skipping meals I think I have a very healthy diet but am being more conscious about it now.

Nutritionist suggested smoothies for fruits, with the tip of chucking in some nuts and a handful of oats into the smoothie at the same time. (I was moaning about getting fat with all the extra food I had to eat). She said having protein at the same time slows down the sugar breakdown process so less conversion to fat. She also shocked me by saying I should aim for five a day (veg only) PLUS two fruits. Actually quite hard to do I think....well, for me anyway.

Havng said that, my two recent purchases have been a smoothie machine, and new scales to weigh myself every day!!

Please let us know how you get on. x

boba82 · 19/05/2010 10:15

Baby why not go for the acupuncture and get a pilates DVD to do at home? I've got one called Yogaletes which is a mix of Pilates and Yoga which uses a resistance band. I've had it for years and it's really good for stretching and relaxing.

Sorry about AF Pamsie

Found out yesterday that my BF is now trying for no 2. Don't know about you lot but I feel an added pressure. Don't know if I could cope with ANOTHER one of my friends falling pregnant before me. Feel such a bitch for not just being happy for them all.

OP posts:
BabyHoping · 19/05/2010 09:56

justshaggy Thank you so much for all the advices and support! It really means a lot to me.

I decided to take some of your suggestions. I will start running today and try for the 3 times a week.
Vitamins I´m already taking, and I think I eat fairly well... will try to add more fruits ;).
Caffeine I gave up after first miscarriage, I take a decaf with milk in the morning. And alcohol, only a glass of wine when I´m going out for dinner, so once or twice a week.
Yesterday night I tried to start meditating with om sound, it lasted exactly 8 min but it did seem to relax me a bit more... will go for 10 min everyday
I also want to start doing pilates or acunpuncture or any form of those... Any suggestions? I could also try to do both, but during the week its hard and doing both on Saturday seems a bit much...
Regarding my job, I completely agree that stopping should be worse. Ideally I should change, but market is not perfect and also there is a chance with my historical that the doctor puts me at home in a future pregnancy so my plans were to change jobs after having first baby... Let´s see, if it takes too long I will need to rethink this plan.

Also, I will try to make the process more fun and not think all the time that this is the month. It puts me too much pressure. But right now I have to manage the stress, I´m really being affected by it...

Hello all!

JustShaggy - that's a great post that you wrote about trying to relax.

BabyHoping - I hope you've picked up a couple of things that might help from that list but do keep posting here and offloading if it helps!

vnewmummy - I think 1 or 2 units a night for 3 or 4 nights of the week would be fine, especially if it helps relax you!

boba - let us know how you get on with the accupuncture. I had it once for a whiplash injury and it didn't hurt at all.

reflexology - I had this once a few years back and without me saying anything, she knew I was thinking about ttc! Just from my feet!!!

Hello to anyone else around!

vnewmummy · 18/05/2010 14:46

Justshaggy - thanks for all your relaxing advice. I will try and enforce some of your ideas. Especially eating more healthy and exercise.

Boba - mine asked for sticks from day 6 this month and I only have a 28 day cycle so bit odd. Think Lychees is right about it starting again for you to get tot know your cycle again.

Baby - sorry your sad hon. It is always difficult staring another new month. I got pregnant twice last year, Nov & Dec and like you have been told all ok. (Even by fertility expert) so it seems really frustrating. However, they still put me on clomid and I will do IUI soon. Im 41 so time is running out. Stay positive as much as you can. Big hugs xx

boba82 · 18/05/2010 14:45

Lychees the tub is still sitting in bedside drawer! I will re-pester him tonight, I think he is scared as to what it will show up. Men eh?!

Totally understand how you feel re POAS. It gets to the point where you just can't take another BFN. Why not wait until Friday and if still no AF POAS at weekend. You never know could be your lucky month?

I've booked my first acupuncture appointment for next week, worth a shot I suppose.

OP posts:
Lychees · 18/05/2010 13:52

Hi everyone,

I found exercising really helped with stress [I used to do an hour a week of kick box aerobics, an hour a week of other CV and a hour of pilates]. I used to have a really stressful job where I would get migraines and be ill every weekend and this helped me no end.

I don't drink, vnewmummy but I don't think there is any reason to give up as long as it's not excessive.

Boba, I think the CBFM is trying to re-learn as it was probably a bit confused with the long cycle and thought you'd stopped using it. Hope things are back to normal for you this month.

Did your DH have a second SA? My DH is still putting this off in the hope that I will get my BFP this month and he won't have to go through it . I'm CD30 so I could probably test now but I feel like if I avoid testing and AF hasn't arrived, then I can still kind of hope .... silly, I know .

justshaggy · 18/05/2010 12:20

BabyHoping - I've been doing everything I can to reduce stress and its been a big learning path for me. I'm not totally without stress now, but I am having a lot more happy good days than I did before. These are my tips (long reply because I really could have used this advice myself a couple of months back, so hoping it helps you hun). I was too stressed to 'think positive' - but I am beginning to feel properly hopeful again as my stress levels slowly get better.

1/ Go and see a nutritionist. A really good healthy diet will help stabilise your hormones which will help your stress levels and will also possibly help you be very healthy when you get your BFP

2/ Ask the nutritionist about supplements to take, which may be tailored to your circumstances. For example, I've had two MCs and I am vegetarian. So I have been advised to take fish oil capsules 3x a day, vitamin e oil once a day, CoQ10 once a day and to change my TTC multivitamin to a different brand which I have to take 3x a day as well. I was told some brands are much better than others so I've been guided which good brands to take.

3/ Even if all the above is a placebo, there is something stress-reducing just in having this control: planning proper meals and feeling you are doing the best you can with proper advice.

4/ It is impossible to be stressed and relaxed at the same time so take up a very relaxing exercise. I do pilates once a week - wish I could do more but can't afford - and at the end of each class I am so stretched and relaxed. I try and focus on what that feels like and do a few stretches at home if I feel myself getting wound up again.

5/ I have had acupuncture a couple of time, but can't say I find it hugely relaxing - I see it as more 'medical'. What is very good though with acupuncture, is you get lots of time to talk to someone who has experience with other people just like you, and that helps (unlike the zero time you get with your GP or NHS health people!).

6/ I go for reflexology once a month and I do enjoy that.

7/ I have almost totally given up booze and caffiene and this is HUGE! This means I am sleeping a lot better now, which means I getting more rest - and more rest means more energy to cope with stress. Having managed to break this habit - it was HARD - I have an added stress-reducing boost in that that tiny thought at the back of my head (is drinking affecting TTC) is now gone. However, I will allow myself a glass of wine if I am out for a meal, and same for caffienated coffee. And I don't miss it the way I thought I would.

8/ Do something regularly with your DH that is not about TTC. I have taken up running with him. I am cr*p at it, but it means we go out 3x a week, away from the house, and out in the pretty outside. DH is loving the break from the stress and hassle.

9/ A hard physical exercise has worked for me as well because I have to concentrate so hard on keeping going that the LAST thing I am thinking about is TTC ... and that is a big change for me. And I feel so good afterwards - relaxed, not stressed - and psychologicaly, I tell myself my body is getting strong to manage being PG and birth.

10/ Running has also given me DIFFERENT goals to TTC. I get very excited when I manage just a bit further and this counter balances the soul-destroying endless negative feelings tha come from BFN.

11/ I've also started charting my cycles. I find this reasuring even though I know it can stres others out. I am happy when I see my temps doing what they should, and the chart confirming the CBFM, etc etc

12/ Seriously look at your work load and reduce the stress. I work for myself so cannot allocate tasks to others, but I have become very strict about saying NO, and I walk away from my PC at the end of the day instead of work long hours etc etc. If I worked for someone else, I would take my boss to one side and have a chat. It isn't that you won't be doing your job, but you should only be doing what is fairly your tasks, and you should not be taking on extra stress. Tell him/her that from now on you do what you get paid for, but cannot, at this time in your life, carry on at the pace you are - tell him/her, its dr's orders. If they get snotty, change jobs or take your DH's advice hun. The thing is, if other things start helping you may actually find work isn't as stressful as it used to be and you can cope better.

babyhoping - all of this sounds like a lot to do and take on - but you should know that up until a few months ago I had done ZERO exercise for about 12 years; I skipped meals every day; I drank a couple glasses of wine at night; I worked longer hours than anyone I have ever met before (I swear that's the truth). I promise you: if I can do it, so can you. And I promise you it makes a difference. I'll be your buddy if you want ... and don't stress yourself about de-stressing either with all these things to think ... one day at a time and only as much as you can manage or afford to do. x

boba82 · 18/05/2010 11:05

How long have you been TTC babyhoping? I was getting really stressed about it but found going to GP and starting ball rolling re tests etc has eased pressure a bit. TBH I think giving up work all together may be a bad thing as you'd have more time to obsess over TTC, maybe change jobs? Although not a great time economically I suppose.

I've been having reflexology regularly and defo helps me relax though no baby as yet. I too was thinking about acupuncture. Apparently it doesn't hurt at all. May be worth a try. It's really hard to destress and I totally empathise.

On a similar note vnewmummy I would be even more stressed if I gave up my Fri night bottle of vino! I don't think sensible drinking harms your chances any.

How is everyone else doing?

Hi everyone,

Sorry I have not been participating much, but have been really sad. I was waiting for AF to come, testing and comin back negative, the usual... Finally AF got me yesterday so my stats can be updated for CD2

I got pregnant twice without planning and once last summer the first month we were trying. My doctor said we should not be having problems to get pregnant again and told only to come by when I got pregnant. If this continues I will probably have to go back for different reasons...

Well, I´m trying to keep my mood up, cause I have been so nervous and stressed and this is not good... DH even suggested that if work has been so hard on me and if we continue not getting pregnant for more months maybe we should think about me giving up job... Not on top of what we would do, but at least is good to know DH has the right priorities on his mind.

Any suggestions on how to manage stress would be appretiated. Thought about Acunpncture but I´m kind of scared about being all full of needles...

Some people say stop drinking but hey I am not too sure! Those who have had BFP did you drink?

Just to update

I'm on cycle 9, CBFM cycle 3, cd 4.

Thanks for your advice and support like Keziah says we've now got a plan.

Sending hugs and support to Lychess life seems so unfair at times.

But on we must march and wait for our BFP's.
