So, I thought I'd take it upon myself to kickstart the new thread. As the title suggests, this is a wonderful home full of the bravest, funniest and most inspirational women on Mumsnet, who are always ready to lend an ear and a virtual glass of wine.

The new thread is kicked off with 3 bfps in 3 days, so here's to more love and luck along the way

Aargh, left it too long to catch up again!! Must devise a way of sneaking on at work....

Gonnabe - fab new name, liking your thinking. Hope that pesky RTD gives you a break soon.

Digigirl loved your fucking rant! Nothing better than some good swearing to make you feel better, its definitely got its time and place. You fucking swear all like as far as I'm concerned. That's totally shit you need to do the chasing, the last thing you need just now. Well done for pitching in too Viv - love it!

Good to see you got your peak Clare on your new fangled CMFM - ha ha! I feel a wee bit guilty about trying this month too as would be New Years Day b'day, maybe even christmas if baby comes early. Right now I don't care though, I'm sure we will be forgiven.

WYG that so shit, I was sure your marathon would have produced results. No wonder you're down in the dumps, take care pal.

NBelle - aye, just outside Glasgow! Well spotted. If you hadn't told me I would have guessed you are Scottish too with the 'bag of shite' phrase. Maybe that's why I enjoyed the swearing so much, its just part of our everyday chat. Hope you're feeling better and had a lovely day out with DH.

Congrats to Mrs PV and your most excellent news! Well chuffed for you.

Malteser defo get that scan. Remember I told you I had that too but have been assured it was nothing to do with subsequent MC as nothing spotted. If its going to help you chill out and relax go for it.

Evening, Gi1da, Cheepz (although you're hopefully away), Red, Elm, Muser, Jolls, Bunny, Freezing, Ladybee and anyone else who's about.

Alba and Liah where are you lassies? Hope you're both doing ok x

Freezingmyarseoff · 16/04/2010 16:19

Hi All

Very much looking forward to the weekend. Got some friends coming over, so will get stuck into the wine/gin

WYG sending you lots of tlc, stay tucked up in bed

Malteaser sorry you're having a rough time. I second the suggestion to bend the rules

Cheepz have a fab weekend

G1lda having work files open definately counts as work. But then I only SFH, and quite frankly the whole thing is disastrous. Enjoy the gardening

Pretty although I haven't been here long enough to know the full history regarding the peeing into postal bags, great news about joining the TTC list

Gonnabe hope your hot bottle is helping with the cramps. Totally understand what you mean, DH and I differ on the number of cycles I should wait before TTC. I am willing to try again after only 1 but he wants me to wait for more

Hello to everyone else too, and have a good weekend.

Gonnabe · 16/04/2010 14:33

Hi All

Im so happy that its nearly the weekend.. enjoy your spa weekends Cheepz - not jealous, no, not at all

WYG Oh dear, sending you lots of sympathy and hugs, I hope you have a good hot water bottle - sometimes when the pain killers just wont kick in a hottie is what you need.

malteaser you should sooo bend those rules lady, you go for it.

Elms I cant agree with your rant more, its so horrid, my preg friend at work had some pre cancerous cells removed many years ago and a mate of hers said she should tell her hospital as she may need a suture (stitch in her crevix) as otherwise she could lose her baby anytime up to 7 months. She had a problem with her midwife and made a complaint and then said by the way I think I need to speak to someone about a stich so they made her an apt, and when she met the surgeon although he was lovely to her he did say, ohh you are lucky, normally you would have had to have lost 3 babies before seeing me.... JESUS!!

Now I cant really name check anyone more as when I scroll back to remind myself I lose my post so apologies - would a big wave suffice?!

Nothing to report here - pretty heavy RTD with the usual cramps etc - DH did say mabye its for the best as my body might need recovery time - I glared at him, but have to admit he may have a point. Espically after what WYG doctor told her.

Anyway, better do some more work.. love to all.

Gi1da · 16/04/2010 14:20

crap West that sounds awful . Am very glad you got some tests done, sounds like you need a big fat dose of tlc on prescription too! Wrap up and stay in bed. If you've not read it and like thrillers, I totally recommend the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books, a guaranteed page turner to pass the time while you're convalescing.

Malteser and you too lovely. I think you should definitely bend the rules, you need your mind put at rest so that you can relax.

Jolls you're not wrong! Does the fact that I have work files open on other tabs count? I've just written an account of shea butter production and women's rights in Burkina Faso. (And the washing has just finished - gosh, it's multi tasking all the way!)

WestYorkshireGirl · 16/04/2010 13:47

Things still not going well here. Had a very bad night with pain. Took some of the tablets was given when had mc designed for heavy blood loss and cramps. Had strong pain over left side. Went to Drs this morning. He was fairly relaxed about it all but thought as I had been so tired and queasy that perhaps it's a very early mc. Also wondered if iron levels low causing the heavy bleeding and pain. Sent me off to the hospital for blood tests for iron deficiency and also HCG - results next week. He said after mc your uterus is very irritated and it can take a long time to settle down and 3 months is nothing.

As well as all this, also have nasty flu symptoms - headache, shaky and sore throat so really feeling at a low ebb. Pains slightly improved but do feel exactly like cramps from previous mc. Was meant to be working at home today, but not surprisingly I am off sick and tucked up in bed (which doesn't fee right as it's lovely outside).

I am sorry for my moan.

cheepz have a lovely break.

malteser hope you get to successfully bend the rules!

gilda get digging, girl!

malteser1981 · 16/04/2010 12:56

Ps Cheepz, enjoy, you deserve it!

malteser1981 · 16/04/2010 12:55

Pretty - glad you are no longer vegetarian and sausages are back on the menu!

As for me - feel terrible - horrible left sided pain. Saw GP yesterday, who, to be quite honest, was useless. See me again in a week and if no better will refer me to EPAC as they only take referrals at 6 + weeks.
I understand that there is little/nothing to see on USS, and I know if things aren't going to wrok out nothing will change that BUT she didn't seem to get that I have pain, and as I'm trying to be positive I'm only taking paracetamol which does F**k all.
None of the classic ectopic symptoms other than pain but I'm still on edge. So I'm going to break my own rule and put the thumb screws on one of the Registrars to scan me tonight at work. I'm allowed to break the rules once eh?

Hope everyone is having a better day than me!
Fingers crossed for those near the top of the list and sympathies to those now at the bottom.

Gi1da · 16/04/2010 12:33

You can so all tell that I'm working from home today can't you?

Gi1da · 16/04/2010 12:32

Ah well Muser, scary it may sound as it feels like spring has only just got here, but June ain't really that far away. Better make the most of the gin while you can

Am v excited - have just received my BBC Dig-In free seeds in the post. I have courgettes, salad, carrots, french beans and basil! Haven't actually worked out where I'm going to stick a raised bed (fence / tree in way issues) but still very exciting!

ps Redhead is the Belt of St Godric available for hire?

Muser · 16/04/2010 11:52

Gi1da still a bit of time for me to wait. Month 2 ends on Sunday, then month 3 begins. Annoyingly, my cycle means it'll be June before any SWI can begin. I think I will just miss being fertile in May. I could try anyway, but if anything was wrong with the baby I'd never forgive myself.

Gi1da · 16/04/2010 11:08

Cheepz that is SO brilliant you lucky lucky thing! I am very (in a nice way of course)! Can't believe that Iceland tried to scupper you Pesky techtonic platery!

Gi1da · 16/04/2010 11:06

Oops sorry, added no-more-waity congrats to Muser instead of MrsPretty. Though Muser, can't be long now? Keeping a place warm for ya

Redheadgal · 16/04/2010 10:19

Morning all,

WYG and Gonnabe - so sorry the RTD got you both. I know exactly what you mean about TTC#1. And I love the name change.

NBelle - hope the cramps have subsided and LAF - hope you're holding up or at least still have people around who are helping you.

Cheepz - sounds like you have a fabulous weekend planned. A well-earned reward for such positive thinking.

Pretty - what a dramatic (and knackering) end to your day! Good on you for chasing after, but yeah probably not a great idea to put yourself in danger.

Anyone got any exciting plans for the weekend (besides Cheepz)? The highlight of my weekend is currently Saturday night settling down to DW with DH and stepdaughter (?DSD). Oh and a trip to my PIL tonight.

First I have to press on with my article on medieval fertility. If acupuncture etc fails to work it appears that the belt of St Godric (lived near Durham) does the trick - it cured a woman of infertility.

I reckon I'm ready to add myself to the list. I'm still on the WTF cycle, but to use LAF's words I'm playing the TTC roulette. So:

Redheadgal TTC#1 UCL 28-30 WTF cycle, CD ??

Oh yeah, sorry for not name checking all, big wave to all those i've missed and handing out miniature crunchies for that Friday feeling.

ElmMum · 16/04/2010 10:09

Hi all,

I'm loving mizzog. Sounds a bit like fizzog, as in "Oi, get that look off your fizzog and start enjoying yourself".

I used to live in Scotchland and my southern friends always appreciate some swithering (dithering between two alternatives, at least that's how I use it).

Apols but here comes a me, me, me rant...

Just went to the docs to discuss my dodgy skin. I thought I might have rosacea - face has been getting redder, drier and spottier for the past few years but I've kind of managed to ignore it mostly. But since MC thought maybe I should get it checked, since it could be hormonal and therefore a symptom of something that also caused the MC.

Anyway, chose the nicest doc at my GPs and he is lovely and a good doc, but I was still left feeling a confused.

He says not rosacea, just acne. (Oh good, thanks, just what I want aged 38, some good old fashioned teenage acne).

Also said a MC wouldn't be caused by any possible hormonal issues. Hormones would stop me getting pregnant but not cause an MC. Can this be right? Surely it's all about hormones?

Anyway, I have a topical cream which he says I can continue to use even when we start TTC.

And finally, he repeated the mantra "we only investigate MC after you've had three consecutive MCs"

WHY!?!

If men had MC I bet this wouldn't be the case. It's just such an arbitrary rule that they expect you just to accept and it's all about money, obviously. It doesn't take into account the actual feeling of having had a MC. Why can't they rule out a few possibilities for you after you've had a MC. It would help you feel more in control and like you're doing something, and possibly avoid the chance that you'll have another one.

It's not like anything happens after the third one to suddenly reveal the reasons behind it. And he said even if you have three MC they don't investigate. Only if you have three consecutive ones. Nice. That's so caring.

Grrr.

Right, rant over. Sorry ladies. I know there are lots of you having a horrible time out there, so I am passing round an early elevenses (tens-ys?) plate of assorted mini muffins.

x

Gi1da · 16/04/2010 09:55

Jolls absolutely re useage of mizzogs. Your mum's not from the South West by any chance? I wonder if the word came from DH's deep subconscious? I also love this one from his Somerset Nan - the time of evening when the sun's going down and its not quite night yet ... dumpsy dark.

MrsPretty HOORAAAAAHHHH! (For getting back on the ttc pony, not for getting home at nearly midnight after being on ChavWatch!)

I had a thought about the list, I was wondering how long it might take to get diffed again and wondered how long the grads had been trying. What do you think about putting the successful cycle number on the grads stats to inspire us? As in well "its ok if it hasn't happened by X as Diffed got duffed on cycle X+1 etc".

randomimposter · 16/04/2010 08:53

Gilda my mum used to say mizzogs, but I was never sure on the spelling so thanks for that . Used as an adjective and a noun, you are very mizzogs, and oi mizzogs...?

viv interesting you mention CM... after my first MC I had a couple of cycles with virtually none, this time I am already noticing more. A coincidence or the power of acupuncture? Mmmm....

pretty I remember those bastard thieves... you should NOT put yourself in danger though. Seriously not a good idea. Are you working in a large indoor shopping arena with special views of a premier motorway. The veteran you refer to is not Gill F is it...? Terrific news on the TTC. Blimmin delighted for you. x

Hi to all. Am home alone for the first time in over 2 years, as DS at nursery this morning. (He was yesterday too, but then I ran round town like a loony shopping, doing chores that are impossible with a toddler and drinking a hot choc in Pret with noone to worry about but ME ME ME!!!!) Today I am sitting in my quiet kitchen, in my quiet house. It's unnerving but really nice. Have to scrub and treat the deck this morning, so not all jolly in Jollsterville

PrettyVacant1 · 16/04/2010 00:10

Evening all, sorrys in advance about not name checking, speshully all yers who are feeling pants.

Only just got home from work 20 mins ago
Interesting first day in big school, had a good chat with new colleague so we all knew where we stood.
Went quite quickly until a pair of Gobshites came in 15 mins before I closed and helped them selves to £400 worth of cosmetics.
I ran after them and with the help of security got it all back.
Had to wait for Police and make a statement.

On the plus side and the reason for my selfish post is I did call Sheffield.....

Boom chiccka bown bowwnn!

They said as my results are normal they'll count the
6 month wait from Jan.
I said that I would like to start trying this month.
They said
"Ladies do start trying before the 6 months if the results are normal and go on to have healthy pregnancies."
I said so I can then?
Would you recommend it?

They said no
I said I understand that they couldn't recommend it.
They said please could I remember to go for a
blood test 6 weeks after I have my baby.

Guess I'll have to find the waggon and climb aboard
again!
I'll add myself to the list tomorrow.

I'm off to beddy byes now as I'm very sleepy, will catch up soon and be less self indulgent.
I just had to share cos I'm so happy !
No more Sausages

Cheepz · 15/04/2010 23:36

howlybags and mizzogs - I am stealing them both

we also have nom noms in this house so thats clearly wider distribution, and gil i think you have balls using fanjo at the doctors - love it, did he look over his specs?? very funny

WYG crap and arse - thats what your day has been like, so big howlybags session for you honey, I have always known having DS makes the whole process easier to bear and I can only imagine how hard it is when your wondering if you are going to have a baby as oppose to whether you will have another one, be strong lady and heres hoping your waiting will be rewarded soon with a long and uneventful pregnancy - as you say you have time, try and relax - I know easier said than done, and don't put everything on hold, keep life moving forward xxx

we are off to stoke park club where i have snagged us a lastminute deal on a suite - yeeehaaaaa .. pick up a stack of mags tomorrow and then pool time, bit of gym time and some mega treatments woot woot, going to make up for lack of pregnancy by indulging in all the treatments i couldn't have had if i was still in the club

if theres wifi I will update you on my lazy indilgence

btw nbelle and laf you are doing great

PS gonnabe there are 8 pregnant women in my office at the moment - I work in IT so there are only about 12 women in the department at all .... sigh, at least they are all big fatties and I am not [slightlysmugtryingtobebraveface]

Gi1da · 15/04/2010 22:44

LadyB I like howlybags and it's so appropriate. This is one whole howlybag rollercoaster isn't it?

LadyBee · 15/04/2010 21:55

Cheepz well done on even getting to potty training, we're not there yet but I was told today that the other child looked after by my childminder is starting to potty train, so I'm hopeful that DS might start showing an interest too (although he's only turning 2 this weekend, so no rush!)

LAF I'm sorry to hear of your loss, a good idea to talk to your GP about the fibroid, hopefully he'll reassure you that nothing needs to happen or if it does, it's a simple procedure.

NBelle I hope you're coping ok, it does seem to be a more delayed experience for you. Do keep an eye on yourself, especially your temperature and level of pain and call for help if you're worried.

clareanna I suspect the anniversaries are going to be tough, and I can see digitalgirl's point about that three month deadline as well. It will happen for you, I know you've been trying but it's possible that your body has been taking a bit of time to get ovulating again, even if things seem reasonably regular. But it looks like you're on the business now lady...with swishy hair and all

Cheepz did you find something? I'm just hoping there is no further plumes, we're supposed to be off on holiday on Sunday.

gonnabe pregnant women are like marmalade cats, when you're aware of them you see them everywhere.

digital I don't know, I gave up caffeine and booze in my 2ww - mainly because I know with PCOS I need to give myself every chance to get pg in the first place. It obviously didn't stop a MC. BUT I can totally understand the urge to make those changes the next time around for you, if only to stop those 'I wonder...' thoughts. And it is truly crap that you have to chase up your own care.

WestYorkshireGirl, big big squeeeeeeeeze for you. So crushing when you get the symptoms and it comes to naught.

Gi1da I am roffling at the idea of you using fanjo at the Drs. We have 'howlybags' at home - this is a big crying session, an example of which I've just had. Was on edge all day and about halfway through realised it was a week ago that I had the ERPC - seems like a lifetime.

Big sigh.

Anyhoo. I saw Green Zone last night - big 'Bourne' type flick with Matt Damon as Every Soldier in Iraq, good political conspiracy. Had wine, chocolate and popcorn and then took a taxi home as a real luxury instead of waiting about for trains etc.

Then did very little today. Read a lot of this website link, which seems quite sensible despite the angel orientation (not my cup o' tea). Found my way to the bit about Molar pregnancy, PV/MrsG - all I can say is blimey. I still don't think I quite get it, it seems very complicated to me, but it does sound like there are good reasons those Sheffield bods are asking you to wait

WestYorkshireGirl · 15/04/2010 21:30

Gilda - I think that's really funny! Thanks for explaining!

Gi1da · 15/04/2010 21:16

Sometimes I forget if words are real words or made up ones from our home lexicon. My fave is mizzogs for miserable, which has got quite some use lately.

I love words. Discovering fanjo here was a joy, though from the confuzzled look on her face, my doctor is not an mnetter
