Insomniac lurking, had to post to Mls & say hi to Ruby with ur inspiring stories... Mls so sorry u been caused more stress, i echo the others re stats & percentages but know that means nothing when u have just been delivered what feels like yet another blow in an ongoing rollercoaster ride & it feels so overwhelming so my heart goes out to you.. Totally push for scan at St Georges if you can, they are one of best fetal meds units in the country & im blessed that is my local hospital that have been giving me my outstanding care throughout my own 3yr rollercoaster, i practically live there lately it feels! As i said to cupcake everything for me has been followed up & diagnosed by there amazin fetal meds dept.. Its a great care team so do try & get there for peace of mind cos they really are the best... BIG hug to u x x x x x

I mean 2009!!

rubyriley · 15/04/2010 22:01

MLS My friends nuchal fold was 4.2, mine was 3.6, her combined odds 1:16, mine were 1:40 (from memory). In hindsight, my scan showed no nasal bone, perhaps that should have worsened my odds (why didn't it?). Fairly sure you have a nasal bone? That's a REALLY good sign.

This time I went straight to the CVS as was such high risk. And had a phone call a year ago last Christmas Eve, that the prelim results were normal, then New Years Eve, full results normal Baby born 8lb 12oz 11th July 2010!!

rubyriley · 15/04/2010 21:35

Hi, sorry to gatecrash. I posted on here ages ago to say I was pregnant aged 44. I'm now 45 and have a gorgeous healthy little boy (my 3rd DS, eldest 22, middle son 13 and now a new baby) He is 9 months old and I count my blessings as had a termination the year before his birth due to a bad CVS result. Monkey I know what you're going through, my heart goes out to you, but you will come out the other side. Us women are made of strong stuff!!

MLS My friend had worse odds than me when I had my affected pregnancy and yet her baby was born healthy (she was 42). My odds were even worse 2nd time round (older plus one affected pregnancy) yet my new son is "normal".Both our odds were much much worse than yours.

Neekos link is www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/925968-drip-drip-drop-little-april-baby-shower?pg=26

You are all such brave ladies, truly inspiring, and it fills me with joy as one by one you are ticked off the pregnancy list.

loueytbg · 15/04/2010 21:32

Just quickly wanted to give MLS huge huge hugs. We were all hoping for you that the risk went the other way. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I also think Vjay speaks a lot of sense but I know it is hard to take in when it's happening to you. Get the scan organised asap - that is not going to affect any mc risk and hopefully will put your mind at rest. I can't remember how many weeks you are but they should be able to see the nasal bone by now.

Sorry for rushed post - manic 2 days at work and I'm only now on the tube going home. Hopefully will get to do personals tomorrow.

MummyLovesSadie · 15/04/2010 21:24

Heartfelt thanks girls, yes I know you are all right with the percentages. It's just going to be a tough few months with this hanging over me & right now I feel like I've forgotten what it's like to feel happy. One thing that is keeping a tiny bit of me positive is that I've heard so many stories about false positives over the last week. People with worse odds than me having an amnio & being given the all clear. Neeko was telling me of her friend who was among the first batch of women having the blood test in Scotland. She was given 1 in 30 of ds & 1 in 5 of edwards & the amnio showed that the baby had neither. I just desperately want to see my consultant tomorrow, for him to look at the facts, maybe give me another scan & to say that I really shouldn't be worried. I don't even know if he'll give me another scan tomorrow or refer me to the other hospital. I guess I'll be back with an update late tomorrow morning.

BuddhaBelly · 15/04/2010 20:52

Just a quickie from me (that's all I seem to do these days )
MLS I second what Blue says take heart from VJay's post as the percentages show a much better picture. Will the scan look for the nasal markers etc? I can only imagine what you are going through Do you know how long you will have to wait for the scan? Will be keeping everything crossed for you

BlueMoon1981 · 15/04/2010 20:47

mls i have to agree with vjay and blue i was going to post exactly the same but they beat me to it, i read your post while waiting for tea to cook, and was coming back later to tell you my thoughts. i work in %s too, and like vjay says, it is very low when you look at it that way. not sure if it helps at all in any way if we never had all this technology, you'd be happily pregnant without a care in the world (well apart from mc scares of course) and you would give birth to a beautiful bouncing baby without ever having known the possible risks that your baby might have had. i might be rambling a tad now, but you see where i am going i think...

bluesatinsash · 15/04/2010 20:07

MLS - please read and re-read Vjay's post as its true, stats are stats and yours are still enormously in your favour. I hope for your sanity that a scan can be arranged asap and they can tell from that alone. You so DO NOT deserve this .

Mermaid - glad you got your script and are lying in the correct position. I bow to your superior gardening knowledge . It was MLS who was after the pepper/bugs advice but I I have retained it in my future reference pile when my tomats and courgetts are getting eaten alive by the little blighters.

barbie - welcome back honey and only you could get fake tan on your 7-week old daughter . Great to hear she is settling down too. Recent photos please!

Just a quickie from me as both boys are asleep and want to maximise evening couch time - byee x

VJay · 15/04/2010 19:26

mls 1 in 95 gives you a 1.05% chance of something being wrong, that is a 98.95% chance of everything being ok. I know the odds look bad compared to, like, 1 in 1000, but putting it into percentages, and it looks alot better, that's how the mv explained it to my sil. The odds of having a mc, 1 in 4 which is 25% are even worse. I'm just trying to give you a better picture of things.

mermaid how tall are you, I'm 5ft7.5

barbie so lovely to have you back, and lovely to hear that D has settled down

monkey hope you are ok

sabs lovely pictures of Saara, she is so cute and so pretty.

Gotta go, my chinese is here, yum {grin]

mls just sending you a hug, nothing else i can do or say to you...Keep talking and we can keep supporting x x x

mermaidspurse · 15/04/2010 16:42

oh sweetheart I am running to catch up on these stats. You are bound to be a mass of confusion and awful uncertainty.
Heaps of love and strength.

MummyLovesSadie · 15/04/2010 16:13

The hormone that was originally too high has gone down a bit - that's the one that I thought was high because of the bleed, my dates & the fact I'd released an egg from each side. Another hormone is on the low side & this hormone can be low if the baby has ds. The midwife who deals with the results has just called me back & said that my consultant may arrange for me to have a scan at St Georges in Tooting where they have a specialist unit. I can't face having any tests that may put my baby at risk. I can't face going through the next five months not knowing if there is anything wrong with the baby, I equally can't face the idea of bringing up a child with ds. I'm just not cut out for it. I also could not have a termination unless there was something badly wrong with the baby. I feel so miserable, upset & completely confused.

mermaidspurse · 15/04/2010 15:06

mls I just went backwards at the thread. why have your odds gone down? I am so sorry that you have one thing after another to contend with. I am here now lying horizontal for a half hour os so cos my lovely proper dr just gave me my script so I am here.

MummyLovesSadie · 15/04/2010 14:08

No it's crap. I just can't keep taking this. Going to see what my consultant says tomorrow. My heart is breaking all over again.

mermaidspurse · 15/04/2010 14:04

I was just dropping in quickly to say to Neeko

My name is Jools and I am addicted to Grays Anatomy and want to have Dr Shepherd's babies Tis all your fault I'm shattered today - am halfway through season two and was supposed to be going to bed, but there was a cliffhanger - and I had to watch the next one to make sure Meredith survived !!!!

Will be back when work allows and do a proper post to everyone soon. In the meantime, you are all in my thoughts, especially Monkey As for our new joiners, apologies for not really saying hello but life is hectic. We all wish you didn't have to be here, but I for one am very glad to have a few more people for company in the small pants bench

MummyLovesSadie · 15/04/2010 13:19

Maybe I should call the lab in London where they test the blood, I have their number?

MummyLovesSadie · 15/04/2010 13:18

Jesus this waiting is killing me...

MummyLovesSadie · 15/04/2010 13:15

Answerphone.

'Their research' cheeky bas**rds. I have loads of cyclogest, I could send you some. I think they'll be telling me to stop taking it soon & if not I'm seeing my consultant tomorrow so I can get some more. Are you taking aspirin now?

No I don't think you are necessarily hormonal, you just want to give your bean every chance you can. Can you try the epu?

Answerphone again.

mermaidspurse · 15/04/2010 11:54
