Hello all...

My partner and I are trying for a baby and in our first month of trying. AF is due on Sat, fingers crossed i don't get to see it.

But i cant help but think this is going to be a difficult ride....I have never thought the prospect of having children ever be a difficult one but now i have started trying, I am now wondering if i am going to find it hard to conceive.

Am i the only one who thinks this? Or am i not the only paranoid being on Mumsnet??

FR this morning - BFN

Well I will finish then not use them for a while. Brighton..i used to live there!! Love it there, the OH still works there and commutes from home!

mrswajs going through a similar problem. the OH is still married and divorcing in April.....been separated for 2 years. They both have a DD, who is 2 years old, which sometimes makes it harder for me, TTC when he has been there and done it very easily too!!

I am having horrible thick white discharge.....not the kind i hoped for!! And quite possibly have put you all off your lunch, sorry for that!

Oooh I love Brighton, my friend used to live there so used to love going down for the weekend! Sadly she now lives in Australia so not as easy just to jump on a plane to go visit!! Hope you have a fab time whatever you end up doing. During easter hold DP and I are starting the garden - deep joy! Lot's of work to do and want to get decking put down and have it all sorted for the summer - bring on the bbq's! Muchos jealous of heading to Barcelona and Paris tho - never been to either, my parents have a holiday home in France but it's in the middle of no-where and nobody speak ANY english plus it's mid-renovation so think I'll be giving that a miss til next year!

lucy Plans for today include a visit to the solicitors re: DP's contact with his DS (long story, DP's ex is being a mare!)Then collect stepDS from horrible ex for the weekend! Then I'm meeting some friends for dinner, so hopefully this will keep me occupied for today and then tomorrow we'll have shopping etc to do and DS to entertain so that'll keep us busy tomorrow. And then it'll be D-Day!! And hopefully no AF!!
What have you got planned for the weekend??

Pinkie Haircuts DO make everything better don't they!! I sympathise with you on the OH situation, we stopped using OPK's for a while as my DP thought it was stressing me out! Like you I don't like things I can't control! This week I think DP wants to practically ban me from MN as he thinks it's turning me crazy! Probably not wrong! But I would persist with the OPK's at least for this month til you find Ov, remember it could be as late as CD17/18!

CCBloom Sorry I didn't realise you had m/c'd over christmas But yeah I suppose if you fell pg on the pill then you might not have too many difficulties when you are ttc for real! I would try not to blame yourselves too much about your lifestyle and the m/c, I've had friends who have been smoking and drinking and fallen pregnant and not realised and they have all been fine, so that wasn't necessarily the cause.
Very excited for you and your holiday tho!! Miami - wow! I've only ever been to New York, which I loved and me and my group of friends are saving up for a 30th birthday holiday and hoping to go to Vegas! Hope you have a fab time!! DP and I are going to Cyprus in June and I cannot wait

Welcome HappyGirl......sorry to hear about your MC but great for being positive, and hopefully you will get some great news soon.
ccbloom VERY jealous about your holiday......Love Miami!! Went to vegas last year and just love it in the states!

MrsWajs haircuts make everything better, i need mine done soon, a few highlights and a little sweeping fringe i think.

lucy thank you for the advice, i am not the brightest park at times, and should most definitely be naturally blonde, no offence to all those lovely blondies here, but i do find some of this OV thing confusing.

Well day 15 for me, and no OV test was a BFN. OH has asked for me to not do them next month, as he says i then stress and worry everytime it is a NEG. My problem is i can get anxiety over something i cannot control, so i think he is right, its no good for me, and makes me worry even more. But i have told him i am not giving up mums net as its like therapy, ha ha! He does think i am becoming a little crazy

One last quick obsessive question for good measure though; If in the past, as in like a few months ago, i get the cervical mucus stretchy stuff.....that means i do ovulate right? Cause i do get it, or have done, just not every month, so is this a good sign or not necessarily?

Hi ladies! I'm good thanks Lucy just trying to not fixate on my charting too much but that's easier said than done! We're off on holiday to Miami in 2 weeks time so I'm trying to think positive about our missed opportunity this month and appreciate that I can enjoy cocktails on the beach and miami nightlife before coming back and really committing to ttc.

Your new hair-do sounds great MrsWajs, I wish I had the confidence to try something new. I've had mid-length brown hair with layers for about 8 years now! Oh and thanks for the advice about my ov situation. Just to answer your earlier questions, we're not ttc as of yet but I actually fell pregnant over Christmas, while being sloppy in taking my pill, but sadly miscarried. Anyway now we are starting to plan to ttc and I'm ready to start now but my OH is determined to give himself until June to quit smoking. He took the MC really bad and I think he blames the fact that we were both drinking and he was smoking when I fell pregnant, even though we weren't ttc, so this time he wants to get things right. I'm hoping when we're on holiday I can talk him into bringing things forward. I know I should look at the fact I got pregnant while being on the pill as a good sign for my fertility but as Pinkie said at the beginning of the thread I can't help being paranoid and just wanting to know that everything will be alright.

Hi Pinkie, the ov situation is a real minefield we'll struggle through and suss it out together. I really think charting will help to get an understanding of your own cycle and make you feel a bit more in control or at least aware of what your body is doing because we are all so different.

Welcome HappyGirl I'm with you on the fact that 3 months ago I knew nothing about cycles and ovulation and now I feel like I could almost go on Mastermind with this as my specialist subject! It really says a lot about how useful the sex education we all had at school was!

MrsWajs · 18/03/2010 22:23

Haha lucy I'm not shy about the hair - have gone from platinum blonde to brunette to almost black with a bit of red in between!! My hairdresser works from home, so my only option would be to copy her hair, currently fire engine red! I gave it a bash just before xmas but unfortunately my hair just won't keep red very well!! So at the mo I have a brown inverted bob with a blunt fringe (think Alexandra Burke), but my hair grows at amazing speed so just needed to get the fringe in check today!!
Quite like chopping and changing my hair tho and I'm apparently one of those lucky people who can carry off any colour!! Happy days!

Hi happygirl and welcome Sorry to hear about your miscarriage, you're sounding quite positive about getting back to ttc though, which is good!
Like you I also knew naff all about how my body worked until I started this carry on! Now it's all I think about! Been ttc for 8 months myself but so far no luck

lucy haven't forgotten about you luv! Do you like my new 'do'??? Nah just had a trim nothing exciting at all really oh and a rant at my hairdresser about still not being preggers lol!!
Well even at 70squid I'll still be bypassing the CBFM!! Just can't spare it right now and I know I want a baby a lot but I think putting it towards my holiday fund is a better idea haha!! Informed DP tonight that our new plan of attack for next month is BD'ing every 2 days religiously, no excuses! We surely can't miss it that way! And if it's successful I will have a Christmas baby! Yeah like literally I put it in one of those due date calculators and I would actually be due on Christmas Day!

Oh yeah CC meant to say are you not ttc yet then? Just getting to know your cycle? And if so when do you plan to ttc proper? You've probably already mentioned all this at the beginning of the thread but I have a terrible memory!!

MrsWajs · 18/03/2010 20:47

Pinkie Think you're getting confused with the 10 day bit! Let's say for example you ov tomorrow so that would be CD15, it would be most likely that your period will come (assuming you're not pg) 14 days after that, giving you a 29 day cycle. The bit after ov and before period is the luteal phase. This can be anything from 10-14 days and needs to be this long for the lining of the uterus to be thick enough for the egg to implant and grow. So if you ov'd tomorrow and then your period arrived 8 days after that then you would have a problem. As for ovulating on CD10 it would be pretty unlikely unless you had a 24 day cycle.
Sorry that prob doesn't make much sense but only way I can think to explain it.
But anyway the bottom line is don't worry about it!! It'll happen when it happens and even when you do pinpoint ovulation to the day it still doesn't guarantee a BFP - sorry don't mean to sound harsh there but I know all too well from personal experience that sometimes no matter what you do, it's really all down to mother nature!

CCBloom I'm no expert on temping, haven't been able to do it lately cus I've been on nightshift for the last 2 months but plan to take it up for next cycle. Today possibly is ov day for you, I know from some of the other charts I have seen that ov is usually determined as the day before an obvious spike in temp which needs to be sustained for 3 consecutive days. For example (and I know these numbers are wrong but bare with me) say today it was 35.0 and tomorrow it went to 36.0 then the next day 36.1 and so on.....I think that's kinda the general idea anyway!! I was hoping for a 28 day cycle too but no such luck, at my guess you'll prob have a 33 or 34 day cycle if you ov today or tomorro? But could be wrong!
Been ttc for 8 months now but still don't know the half of it!!

HappyGirl1 · 18/03/2010 16:11

Hi Ladies, hope it's okay if I join in here.. I'm TTC, we have only been trying 5 months and got pregnant last cycle but unfortunately miscarried.. still it was a relatively 'normal' miscarriage touch wood so we have been able to start ttc again which is something positive

PinkiePoo - they say most people ovulate about CD 14 but it can be between 10-17 so anything within that is grand I think (obviously i@M no more of an expert than anyone else).. key is to take the ov test at the same time every day.. you then get AF 14 days after ovulation regardless of what day you ovulated on if that makes sense!!

It's crazy 5 months ago I knew nothing about ovulation dates, when you should try to conceive etc and now it's second nature.

Got my fingers crossed for us all ladies

PinkiePoo · 18/03/2010 15:09

lucy so are you saying if i ovulate after CD 10, it should be ok but anything before then it could cause probs?

OH keeps telling me to relax but im really finding it hard to and becoming obsessive, im not a very patient person, as you can tell!

MrsWajs thanks for sharing that you usually ov on day 17 of your cycle. This is my first month of charting and I was naively hoping for a 28 day cycle. I thought I had ov'd yesterday because I had a temperature dip but then my temperature dipped even further today so maybe it's today I am ov'ing? I'm on day 18 now so starting to despair and hoping every morning that I get that temperature surge that I'm waiting for. Even though we weren't trying this month and just had our one off unprotected drunken experience I'm still disappointed to know that this won't have come to anything since I still haven't ov'd!! I was really hoping I was going to have one of those dream 28 day cycles that lucky people seem to have! Pinkie I'm feeling frustrated too!!

PinkiePoo · 18/03/2010 13:07

lucy i was going to buy one but was a tad too pricey so stuck with the CB Digitals Opks......i am another thread and someone said they have the same problem as me, and apparently ovulate too late which means they will find it very hard to conceive...

great, another new thing to panic about!

I am trying to stay calm but failing miserably!!!

OP posts:
MrsWajs · 18/03/2010 12:59

Haha yes I use CB digital opk's but like you say VERY expensive! Freaked out in Boots the last time I bought them when the cashier said 'that'll be £40 please' had picked up a box of 20 instead of 7!! However I suppose it is good value for money if you're sure you're gonna need them for the next 3 months, I put them back (hopeful me) and changed them for the 7 pack - only to discover them on special in tesco 2 days later!!!

I've heard a few people speaking about the CBFM but also clocked it's £99.99 price tag in Boots, so think I'll side step that one for a wee while yet!

Off to get my hair chopped now so will catch you all later.x

lucybarnes Awwww good for them!! Glad they're ok after it. DP's son was hyper after he had his for some reason - it was really bizarre! I went out for a meal with DP last night and it was fine to have some time together out of the house and without work to worry about!! Still no sign of AF and 2 days to go, not really had much in the way of cramping since Tuesday either so now trying very hard not to get my hopes up that I could be pg!! Also trying not to cave in and buy FRtests!! Keep me strong girls!!

Pinkie My ov isn't usually til day 17 and that gives me a 32 day cycle so still plenty time for you yet. Which OPK's are you using??

PinkiePoo · 18/03/2010 08:15

Thanks guys.....trying to remain positive! It is hard though when i am surrounded by preggos at the moment, family and friends, but they are older than me, that is all i am telling myself!!
Day 14 - still no sign of Ov.
