Ok, feel a bit scared actually starting the new thread but here we are, for however long (or short) our time here may be.

Off you go ladies. Welcome () one and all.

OP posts:
ElmMum · 11/03/2010 19:34

Thanks for the warm welcome all. I suspect this thread is going to keep me going through the next few months of decision-making.

Big wave to all - too many people to namecheck!

My stats are, er, I'm not sure. First day of my last period was Dec 19th, I started miscarrying at 10weeks pregnant, just finishing now. So no idea when next period will be. And not sure when we'll start TTC.

Question... what does AF stand for? It seems to mean period but can't fathom quite how

Gi1da · 11/03/2010 19:08

Evening all feel a bit behind on the thread, pesky work getting in the way of mnet. Bad work! Hope everyone is doing as fine as can be. Muser glad to hear those levels are dropping, that must be a big relief. Hippy that stupid twunt of a consultant sounds like a right plonker. Grrrrr. Can't do angry face as I might get bumped to the bottom of the list!

Off to get a glass of wine and catch up properly. Cheers all!

Mummy369 · 11/03/2010 17:44

Why does everything go wrong? I MC'ed 19th January and was listening to the radio on the way to work this morning and heard an advert reminding people to keep their tax disc in date.

Cue me realisation that my road tax expired on Jan 31st!! OMG the horror - like we need a £150 bill right now, or a fine, or the car clamped, or impounded... And I definitely didn't get a renewal reminder.. When I got home, can't find the log book, suspect the new one (when we moved house) never got sent..

Rang Mum in floods of tears to come to my rescue [wobbly] I couldn't even cope with the idea of phoning them - well, couldn't anyway as house phone on the blink and it's an 0870 number!

hippychick66 · 11/03/2010 17:41

I just asked my GP to recommend someone (ha bloody ha) booked the appointment at the local aspire (used to be bupa) hospital.

Then my GP wrote a letter of referal. You tell the hospital that you have no medical cover but are self funding. You get an appointment immediately BUT they charge between 150 - 200 quid for each time they see you and extra if they do a scan etc.

They will require a credit card to hold for security(ahh that's a point I forgot about that. Maybe he will just take his flippin' money if I don't pay up soon arrgghh) .

HappyGirl1 · 11/03/2010 17:12

Well that is extremely frustrating HippyChick! So many contradictions there.. I am a bit superstitious so I would probably pay him but I don't think he deserves it!

How ridiculous that he thought it was a cyst when it was the corpus luteum!! That's just not exactly an expert opinion. Oh dear.

Interested to hear though how you got the private consultant? I'd quite like to do that but haven't been able to find much info on it.

Ps thanks for your note on TTC again.. we are both ready and I actually think if we manage to try just once it'll make DH in particular feel a bit more positive. Well fingers crossed anyhow, it's so so tough this MC business. Noone out there has any idea how much it affects you

Pollyanna your not evil that's perfectly natural believe me.. I'm sure everyone would say the same.. hope you feel better soon and you manage to trick DH that you are better! Hope it works for you and me tonight then .. would be good to have some happy news to end the week on tomorrow!

hippychick66 · 11/03/2010 16:56

Can I ask you all your opinion please. The private consultant that i saw in december said the following:-

I wont make any assumptions about you I am a man of fact.

I will be doing blood test at 7 and 21 days as well as scans.

I will present you with my finding at the end of all that.

He then did a complete about turn. Looked at the fact that I had endometriosis, looked at my age, said the lining of my womb looked a bit thin, thought I had a cyst and told me my chances of conceiving natural were minimal!!!

I then got a BFP 1 week later.

Oh yeah and He told me that the cyst I had might be a tumour so I had a £100 blood test to rule out anything sinister.

My GP said that what he thought was a cyst was probably the corpus luteum!! She said he just failed to spot an early pregnancy and made assumptions about me.

Anyway, we didn't pay him and he didn't chase for the money until I had my MMC and then miraculously a reminder for £350 came throught the post (he also works at the hospital so I think he knew I'd miscarried).

Would you pay him £350 for seeing me and telling me absolutely nothing of interest or relevance??? He is supposed to be the expert in my area!!!

hippychick66 · 11/03/2010 16:32

happygirl1 please go easy on yourself. Dh and I decided to have once Af - oops I mean before we tried again so it means we haven't actually done the whole penatrive thing yet .

We've just been warming up to it and I've found that so much easier. Don't feel like you have to try this month if it feels a bit weird for you and your partner. We all get back on the horse at our own pace.

I really hope you feel better about it all soon and can be a true happy girl again .

I listened to my Zita West CD last night when she tells you how cosy your womb is and how healthy your eggs are - blah blah.

All I could think was, yes my bloody womb is so cosy that even when my little one stopped at 8 weeks it hung around for another 4!!!

I did find the CD relaxing and I'm trying to be positive that I will soon be nurturing another embryo.

The only problem with being period is - if people get angry we'll all think they've got their period - all very confusing for this poor old Hippy .

Must do my Tescos on-line shop now - that's what i really logged on for!

BunnyBaby · 11/03/2010 15:32

Hi sarahmumtoalex I also had two dodgy cycles last one was 10 days. I Just put it down to hormones all over place as now not spotting so do feel more normal ( at last). Not sure how long since your mc as I'm quite new here.

Pollyanna · 11/03/2010 14:37

happygirl sorry it is all so shit for you at the moment. I know how you feel about work -there is so much going on in my head while I am there, that I can't get into it at all. Plus someone in my very small team announced their pregnancy yesterday - I had spotted it before my mc, but still it is difficult to cope with. I don't really even feel happy for her - I'm so evil.

I'm at home with a bug today though - feeling awful. I just felt a pain in my right side that I have decided must be ov pains so the main thing I am thinking about now is will I be able to swi tonight. It doesn't take long for this to take over your life really. (I will have to try to fool dh that I have recovered - I can't think I will be irresistable like this!).

lucky you on the weight thing alba - i have never been like that unfortunately.

AlbaDeTamble · 11/03/2010 14:04

Oh dear, bit of a day on here today.

Did think about passing round the s but from yesterday's conversation I don't suppose you'd thank me? Well, maybe you would, so here's some chunks of lovely rich, dark chocolate... I think it's supposed to help boost endorphins and make us all happier.

Weight's a bit of an issue for me, but the other way around. I lost weight whilst pg last time, was a bit of a worry, but apparently can sometimes be normal, but of course I know now that it wasn't... kept kidding myself I was starting to get a pregnant tummy but the scales kept going down. So I'm really happy to have put on 2 kilos in the past month. ok, ok, you can all hate me, but I'm really happy. I've gained the weight with lots of healthy food, not too many skipped breakfasts and trying to keep the stress levels down.

I'm totally with you on the concentration HappyGirl1, really struggling with that -- must get back to work, everything taking me twice as long as normal just now so if I don't make myself get on with it I'll be working all night......... (btw bursting into tears with GP not so bad, I held it together then lost it with the receptionist on my way out! Tears and frustration and anger, she must have thought I was a mad woman. Hmmm, actually, she was probably right)

GLB so sorry to hear about your experience at fitness class I thought the same was going to happen to me on a very delayed train last week was so much heavier than I'd ever expected and I cried with relief when there was an unlocked loo at the station. It does for sure bring it all back.

Oh, and I'm with the campaign to outlaw auntie flo... like the instead

Must do some work, too much procrastinating

waves to all

HappyGirl1 · 11/03/2010 13:20

HI Ladies,

Hope you are all well. This page just helps me so much - just been catching up and it's good (in an odd way) to hear other women thinking about what I'm thinking about.

Had my GP appt went okay although I burst into tears which was embarrassing. I'm ready to TTC again, so DH and I tried last night but unfortunately didn't work which is quite frustrating for us both - just so much pressure and also scary since the MC. We both don't want it to become an issue but it's difficult. So difficult and here I am in work and noone has a clue what's going on in my head. I have no motivation for work either.

SarahMumtoAlex · 11/03/2010 12:42

Well Ladies the red Tide of Doom got me this morning. I've never had such a short period in my life. Suspect its perimenopause and that doesn't increase my joy. Completely with you Goodluckbear both on the trying to convince yourself it isn't and on the sense of mc all over again. Trying to just get on with it and certainly appreciated tiggers funnies. All the same I think I'll take myself off the stats list, I need to focus less on all this. Good luck to you all

Thanks girls.

In other news I think I might be getting addicted to testing for pregnancy even though I know its probably not going to have happened.. thank goodness Boots have the 'saver' range of tests. I know its barmy, Im havent told DH, so that proves that I know its barmy as he would tell me off! Keep looking at my still much more swollen than it should be belly and wondering.. in reality I know its salt and vinger crips, chocolate and wine in there! Ha ha.

Forgot to say welcome to Elmmum , and big hugs to Wannabe, sorry about your Mum, sounds like an emotional, and poignant, time.

I'm trying to do the list, apologies if I miss people's updates?

Goodluckbear · 11/03/2010 10:08

That was great, that totally cheered me up!!

I went to a workout class this morning and started crying because my frickin period suddenly got much heavier today and ran all down my leg. It was so humiliating!! Flashbacks to New Year and the whole sorry story. Got a hot bath and a cup of tea off DH out of it though, and got a free doughnut and coffee from Krispy Kreme so things are looking up!!

Gah - less than two days to the weekend, thank god.

xxxxxxxxx

littlemiss72 · 11/03/2010 07:09

Morning all, great Tigger needed a laugh! Just checking in before work.. have a good day all. x

clareanna · 11/03/2010 05:21

Tigger- pmsl!!!

tigger15 · 10/03/2010 23:05

Hi Elmmum sorry to see you joining the group. I conceived my ds on the 2nd go, the mc on the 1st go and here I start cycle god knows what and I don't want to check my stats but would be grateful if someone could update me because AF came this pm.

You'll work out what feels best for you whether to wait or not but give it some time until everything has gone and you begin to feel a bit more settled and then you'll know what feels right.

BTW my gp said to start ttc again as soon as the bleeding stopped and the hospital said wait one period for dating purposes.

Does anyone want to turn this into an unofficial jokes page on occasion to cheer us up each day? I volunteer for today's one.

The following are excerpts from church bulletins nationwide. Who needs professional comedians when everyday folks are just as humorous? (Note: You have to read this carefully to catch the funniest mistakes.)

Preach it!
The sermon this morning: "Jesus Walks on the Water."
The sermon tonight: "Searching for Jesus."

At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be "What Is Hell?" Come early and listen to our choir practice.

Suffer the little children
Our youth basketball team is back in action Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the recreation hall. Come out and watch us kill Christ the King.

For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's "Hamlet" in the church basement on Friday at 7 p.m. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

Sunday School: Children will be led in sinning and Bible study.

The Power of Prayer
Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say "Hell" to someone who doesn't care much about you.

Don't let worry kill you. Let the church help.

Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community.

After the worship service...
This evening at 7 p.m. there will be a hymn sing in the park across from the church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.

Bertha Belch, a missionary from Africa, will be speaking tonight at Calvary Methodist. Come hear Bertha Belch all the way from Africa.

A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.

Announcement in a church bulletin for a national Prayer and Fasting Conference: "The cost for attending the Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals."

The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been canceled due to a conflict.

Ladies, Ladies
The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.

Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don't forget your husbands.

Ladies' Bible Study will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. All ladies are invited to lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the B.S. is done.

The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.

Choir Practice
Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.

Miss Charlene Mason sang "I will not pass this way again," giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.

The rector will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing "Break Forth Into Joy."

Which Door Do I Use?
The Low Self-Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. Please use the back door.

Weight Watchers will meet at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance.

The Members of the Congregation
Barbara remains in the hospital and needs blood donors for more transfusions. She is also having trouble sleeping and requests tapes of Pastor Jack's sermons.

Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24th in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.

No Good Deed Will Go Unpunished
Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles, and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children.

Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered.

Watch Out for Those Potlucks
Attend and you will hear an excellent speaker and heave a healthy lunch.

The church will host an evening of fine dining, superb entertainment, and gracious hostility.

Potluck supper Sunday at 5 p.m. Prayer and medication to follow.

HOW Much Money Should I Give?
The associate minister unveiled the church's new tithing campaign slogan last Sunday: "I Upped My Pledge - Up Yours."

hippychick66 · 10/03/2010 22:38

wannabeamum big Hippy hug. So sorry you are facing the anniversary of your mum's death. Losing a parent is absolutely awful isn't it . It's over 5 years since I lost my dad and I still feel incredibly sad and miss him often.

I'm sure you will be able to change your name one day to Im a mum - fingers crossed for you xxx

Night night.

ps. I re-read my post about wine - just wanted to say I didn't drink a whole bottle every night! It's just that as soon as I found out my baby had not made it I needed a glass of wine and after a long gap without alcohol it was remarkable how easily I got back in the habit. Lets hope we're both soon pregnant again and happy to drink shlo.....

wannabeamum · 10/03/2010 22:18

Sorryvmessed yp the bolding and spelling - using phone.

wannabeamum · 10/03/2010 22:07

[elmmum] hello I'm glad you found this place I've found it a massive comfort since mc my first pregnancy in feb. I saw your posts on the other thread and just wanted to send you a massive hug.

[hippy] I couldn't agree more on the wine front and I think I need to follow your example- since the mc I reckon I've had a drink every night - that's bad isn't it...

I've just got a bfn - totally expected, yet I couldn't stop myself! Trying to feel positive, it's the anniversary of my darling mums death next week so march is always a bad month for me, coupled with the fact I thought I'd be making everyone happy by announcing my 12 wk baby is making it even worse. I'm wallowing now so will excuse myself before I get worse, mum wouldn'tike a wallowing wannabe!

ElmMum · 10/03/2010 21:54

Thanks hippychick - that makes much more sense now!

hippychick66 · 10/03/2010 21:33

Welcome elmmum I can try and help with some eg. SWI shagging with intent. BFP Big fat positive. BFN Big fat negative . UCL Usual cycle length. OPK Ovulation prediction kit. POAS peeing on a stick. WTF what the f*ck. TTC trying to conceive.

If there are any others that you are about just list them and someone will come along and help.

We are a great bunch, every single person on here knows how totally awful it is to think you are going to have a baby and then have that all snatched away and it means you never have to make excuses for feeling sh*t or apologise for TMI (too much information!!).

I agree about the whole thing of looking at your DC's differently, I had 2 easy pregnancies and assumed (naively so) that my 3rd would be the same (despite the fact that I was 43!!!) When we lost our little one at nearly 12 weeks it made me look at my 2 DS's and thing "How the hell did we make them so easily???" It certainly does make you appreciate the ones you have. Sorry to those of you ttcing your first - hope that doesn't offend.

I watched 'click' last night and it did make me think that I should enjoy the now and stop thinking - when I get a baby or when we move house or when i whatever. It is a good film and very sad in places.

lia thanks for the hug - I needed that.

Love to all.

Better get off now - grumpy bear is about. He's lovely really.

ElmMum · 10/03/2010 20:46

Hello all, I've jumped from page 9 to the last page as would really like to join in but have got stuff to do this evening and can't spend another 3 hours reading this thread! Will finish reading it over the next few days, so apologies if I double up other questions or say anything amiss.

Just wanted to say...

  1. I'm sorry for all the sadness and loss and frustration you've all suffered. This thread is brilliant and I'm really glad I've found it, even though I'd love to never have known anything about miscarriages.

  2. I am totally clueless about all the acronyms on this thread...! Can anyone do a glossary of what they all mean. Would be really helpful.

  3. I am miscarrying at the moment. Started bleeding at 10 weeks (have been bleeding now for a week and a half, seems to be slowing right down now).

Going for a 2nd scan next week to check if it's all finished. Then have been advised to wait for 3 months before ttc again.

Don't know why I miscarried. I'd already obviously miscarried before they scanned me, so all they could say was there was no sac on the scan so presumably I'd already passed that. So can't say when baby stopped growing or anything like that.

Am a mass of mixed emotions about everything at the moment. Seem consumed by the practicalities of whether we should ttc straight away or wait to finish the college course I'm doing. If this pregnancy had worked out, the baby would have been born in Sept so the plan was to take a year out at the end of first year and go back to do my 2nd year when the baby was a year old. Don't like the idea of waiting a whole year before ttc again as I'm 38 now. But if I manage to get pregnant before then, I'll be due smack in the middle of my final year, which poses problems.

Anyway, I'm very up and down about everything. It had all seemed so perfect. DD conceived on honeymoon first go. And it seemed, DC2 conceived on holiday also first go. But DC2 lost at 10weeks and now suddenly it all seems so fragile. And I look at DD completely differently and marvel that I managed to make her so easily, and wonder that I could have thought they would all be so easy. Confidence completely gone.

However, I know from reading the first 9 pages that others have had it much worse.

x

((())) hippy it sneaks up and bites us on the bum when we least expect it doesn't it?

OP posts:
