Shiney new thread before we drop off the end of the last one!

But that's part of the reason I just want to go ahead and do it. Everyone knows that if you're scared to jump off the high diving board, it doesn't help to stand on the end of it looking down for an hour, thinking about whether or not to jump off.

AmandaCooper · 20/07/2010 08:23

The thing is, this whole having a child business is so fraught with risk and involves so much pain and fear and changes your life so completely and not, from the point of view of an objective, reasonably self-interested person, necessarily for the better, that it takes the hormonal equivalent of being hit by a truck to make women want to do it.

Not having been hit by the hormone truck, our DH are more cautious about the whole thing. DH is completely perplexed, having watched the whole series of One Born Every Minute with me, that I would even entertain the idea of putting myself through the pain and terror and risk of childbirth. And frankly so am I!

bebejones · 19/07/2010 21:59

Biscuits - we won't mention the newborn projectile pooing either! Shhhhhhhh!!

Need to think about a good matress protector for DDs 'big girl bed' when she finally goes into it so will look at the hippychick ones!

Think it has just sunk in to DH that I'm not letting the baby thing drop. We have to plan because of having to have 3 months off my meds. He would be much happier if we could be more spontaneous about it. Our situation has forced his hand a bit IYSWIM? Does seem to take men longer to come round I think. Bit silly, you'd think 9 months of pregnancy would be enough time for them to get used to the idea

AC - I have been bugging DH about TTC #2 since DD was 9 months old...she'll be 2 in 3 weeks!

Piglet at least we know that next time round we need to start mithering at least two years before we actually want to get started!

AmandaCooper · 19/07/2010 21:07

Wow Bebe that's absolutely fantastic news. Definitely send him round the other DH - mine first! Just found out today that someone I was a trainee with back in the day is now six months pregnant, which makes me feel like I've been left behind - so I think your DH can't get here quickly enough.

Now you've just got to keep him on board for four and a half more months and you'll have cracked it!

PigletJustUs · 19/07/2010 21:02

That's fantastic news bebe - keep us posted! I agree, all our DHs should get in training and take tips from yours!
I feel a bit mean saying that - I always thought I'd want to start a family at around 30, it's not his fault I changed my mind and expect him to compromise! Should go easy on him really.
Have a good week everyone. x

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 19/07/2010 20:32

Yay for you BBJ! that sounds really positive for you. If he stays on board maybe you need to send your DH around to talk to some of the other DHs.

Am now wondering if DS's matress protector is a hippy chick one. It's very similar if not and it's brilliant. Just to bad I put it in with the red duvet cover and turned it pink!

Am seeing it's been a bit up and down for everyone, so looking forward to a good week all round (skulls a mojito, crosses finger holds breathe and... promptly passes out)(hehehe).

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 19/07/2010 20:26

NMCB quietly doesn't mention baby boys and their abilty to get wee EVERYWHERE so as not to put the first timers off.

shhh!

nannyl · 19/07/2010 18:33

lol

we have plans for number 2 as well.... and number 3

bebejones · 19/07/2010 18:25

Sorry! Will whisper things like that in future!

Just had a little chat with DH about the drugs & TTC. We are going to sit down at the weekend & properly plan things out timeline wise & make some firm decisions about what will happen & when! Am nervous & excited all at the same time. He was being very positive though, was actually DH who brought it up & was saying 'when we have baby no2'!! Hoping I'm not reading too much into it though, but this sounds like a major breakthrough!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 19/07/2010 18:08

For heavens sake Bebe - shhhhhhh!

bebejones · 19/07/2010 14:27

While they are little it's more the vomiting that you need to worry about!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 19/07/2010 13:04

Please don't anyone tell DH that the LO might wee in his bed!

nannyl · 19/07/2010 09:23

hippychick bed protectors are what i have used with most of my charges...

they are really soft and comfy and breathable (you can use them with a baby, unlike most waterproof mattress protectors) they wash and tumble dry well.... and just protect the bed and protect my lovely new white mattress
(I have a normal cotton mattress protector on top of it as well)

they are pricey but IMO worth every penny for piece of mind

JustShaggingForNow · 19/07/2010 09:19

oooh - also intrigued by mattress protector.... do tell!

JustShaggingForNow · 19/07/2010 09:18

Hi ladies!!

So much to catch up on and I am sure that i will forget something so I'm dishing out Mojitos, Cake and pre-conception vitamins to everyone early just in case!!

Big welcome to piglet. I was a lurker for a while until I found this topic and now I feel like I've found my MN Home! Am also late 20s and desperate for DC1!!

Kingsize beds - I actually couldn't live witout mine. I am a restless sleeper and move about a lot so I am sure that the Kingsize benefits DH a lot more than me.

It seems we're all having OV issues at the moment. I'm 3 month off the pill (having been on it for 10 years) and in my first month of using Persona. It's supposed to indicate when you OV and I'm currently on CD23 of a 29/30 day cycle and no sign.......... Should I be concerned? Do you think it would be worth using OV sticks on my next cycle?

Big attack of the broodies for no aparent reason last night. I think it's the combination of having to do the weekely commute into London from our nice family home and that dreadful Sunday night feeling. I mentioned to DH that my company are reviewing their maternity policy upwards again after cutting it at the peak fo the recession. He said that was excellent but I pointed out that there was no way I was going to remain there long enough to benfit from it unless he made a serious adjustment to the planned TTC timetable (hate job and have a bully for a boss etc etc etc) He went a bit quiet and didn't say anything more after that!!

RE Eupplements for DH's - mine is taking zinc at the moment. I told him that it was good for stress and bodies that are run down. He doesn't know it's other uses and now takes it religiously....... I'm not planning on revealing the truth to him just yet!!!

bebe - I am sure that it's just those damn meds messing with your body - Grrrr!

nannyl - I would be useless with that book. I work on the "everything in moderation" principle and am hoping that that will also work for TTC!!!

bebejones · 19/07/2010 09:03

I shall still be boarding the September bus...you never know might OV late in that cycle? Plus it will be good practise! Thing is with my cycle being so messed up at the moment I have absolutely no way of predicting what is likely to happen til nearer the time, which does not sit well with my need to plan down to the very last detail!

I shall be switching to organic milk & veg from December too. Organic meat is so expensive & I don't eat much meat anyway so won't bother with that! Will prob step up on things like beans & pulses & sweet potato is good too I think, I recall reading that it is higher in vitamins than normal potatoes maybe?!

What is the hippy chick matress protector...I am intrigued!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 19/07/2010 08:34

Ooh what's a hippy chick mattress protector? I hope it's made from organic hemp! DH pale at the thought of DC getting in his bed!

Bebe that's a bit of a blow will that mean you'll be waiting for the October bus? I'm sure we'll all be on it with you, I don't fancy my chances of hitting the bullseye first time, even if I can convince DH! Moving to a rural village might be the key but it is not really practical at the moment! If the worst comes to the worst I'll have to get on the organic raw veg.

I've been on the pill 12 months, so hopefully it shouldn't linger in my system. DH seems to have adjusted, in fact he has become fastidious about condom use, mores the pity! (no pleasing some people, I know!)

nannyl · 19/07/2010 08:05

we too upgraded to a king size bed in June

reason being i need room for children to snuggle in on a weekend morning

I also immediatly (well actually before) got a hippy chick matteress protector for it...

bebejones · 19/07/2010 07:13

AC - lol at your DH! We have a kingsize bed but you will be surprised at how much space a very small person can take up & leave you perched on the edge! DD likes to come into our bed and lie diagonally! How long were you on the pill before you stopped? I know they say that you are fertile immediatel after you stop but when I stopped a few years ago I found that it took me a couple of cycles to notice any changes!

Nannyl - that does sound a bit scary, think I will stay well clear of that book! Although saying that when we conceived DD we had moved from the city to a little rural village & were making efforts to be healthier(ish)!! Maybe coincidental, but who knows?!

Just checked my ff & coz of this short cycle it has changed my predicted AF for Dec to 4th/5th...too early for me to TTC that month! Guess I'm just going to have to wait and see what happpens & stock up on the cheapy OV sticks!

OP posts:
nannyl · 18/07/2010 22:38

so sorry to read that bebejones

yes amanda.. unless you are prepared to move house to a the middle of the country side and eat basically a strictly organic vegan raw diet of freshly picked local produce, then this book does not suggest you have any chance of conceiving, and it also seems like a miracle that we are actually alive...

i have just been reading the later chapters that give more sensible / realistic advice on the importance of sleep (in a dark room) and day light during the day which i found interesting and worth thinking about

AmandaCooper · 18/07/2010 22:22

Probably just the drugs but it must be worrying all the same. Bit worried that I haven't ovulated yet. No surprise I know as first pill-free cycle but you just kind of expect the best don't you. I'm glad I've come off the pill as it could be a while before I know where I'm at.

The Prodigy tribute band was a bit disappointing. A lot of yelling and swearing and not very well executed music. Still it was a laugh and I can say I have seen such a thing lol.

Today we bought a new bed - kingsize so that the DC can fit in it! DH rolling eyes a lot in the mattress shop when I asked will it give good support when I am pg?!

Don't like the sound of the fertility diet books nannyl, I hope it doesn't come to that I love my junk food!

bebejones · 18/07/2010 12:10

Feeling very confused! AF has arrived unexpectedly I know my drugs could be knocking things off a bit, but since I started the drugs my cylces have been 36, 25, 26 & now 23!! Really hoping things settle down and go back to 'normal' when I stop the drugs. Just worried that if they don't TTC will be a complete nightmare! Think I'll be peeing on OV sticks every day!

Weekend really dragging for me, feeling a bit limited on what I can do at the moment.

OP posts:
bebejones · 17/07/2010 12:08

Is aspartane the artificuial sweetner they use instead of sugar? Had heard that it was very bad for men in excessive quantities, if that is what it is

Fertility diet book sounds V scary and completey unpractical!

Piglet - sounds like you are in the same boat as a few of us! FOF definately has alot to answer for! My DH has it & we already have a DD, I think she has put him off having any more!

OP posts:
PigletJustUs · 17/07/2010 11:16

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Sorry to hear about SIL's DS bebe - sounds like a horrid situation. Life's not fair is it?

My broodiness has been coming on over the last year or two, but I knew DH needed a bit more time to be 'just us'. Sometimes, like on lazy Sunday mornings or the occasional times we go on a romantic weekend away, I can see his point. But I really feel ready to change my life. From what I hear it's quite a common tale at our age - we are 28. I don't know how long it will be before I can convince him - maybe not until Christmas. So I'm doing my best to get my body ready by eating healthily, so that when I get the green light I can jump on him!

Good side of this is that I'm losing weight, something I should have done years ago.

FFertility diet sounds hardcore, nannyl Not sure I could give up my morning coffee. What is aspartane? All these things I don't know!
