Hi everyone id a big long message wrote last night and my internet crashed and deleted it all! Grr I was so cross i jus turned it off... So back again today i had been giving a hundred and one tips for surviving with two little ones, il sum up some of what worked for me... I used to do all my meal prep durin da night when my boys were asleep, id oft be found on da couch wit a peeler & pot of veg watchin desperate housewives! It helped me so much jus being able to throw all our meals together no effort n da day time & that way when ds2 would sleep i cud spend some 1on1 time wit ds1 even if it was jus hangin da washin together or colourin or whatever but not havin to worry bout food realy helped me, uh & bulk cookin too... I also found a sling my best friend & all 3of us lying n together for a nap bf'ing on one side readin a story on da other then da 3of us havin a lil sleep together this saw me thru da sleepless nights & when i was gettin a bit more sleep at nite & didnt need it so bad durin da day i used to read or internet & i really enjoyd dat time 2 chill, until ds1 decided he didnt need naps anymore... iv loads more but wil stop b4 i bore u all too much

I had really low iron with DD, but midwife said that was because I got pregnant so quickly after DS. I took dbl dose of iron and had to do the green veggie thing with OJ too...was threatened with transfusions if I didn't get levels up before labour.....

bebejones · 12/02/2010 20:49

Folic acid is the important one! If you eat well you should be fine. My iron levels were a bit low when PG too, but just made sure I ate iron rich foods (with a glass of oj coz that helps) & I managed to get away without taking iron tablets! Hardly ate a thing until I was about 16 weeks & even then it was a struggle to keep anything down! My GP recommended I eat ice cream for the calories! (I liked very cold things for some reason!)

Kayzr · 12/02/2010 19:49

You don't have to Tanmu. I only do because I have rubbish iron levels when I am pregnant. They always seem to just drop.

tanmu82 · 12/02/2010 19:48

kayzr not sure if I'm excited - more nervous....I think it's too early for us to be pregnant....I want it as much as I don't!!! It's so confusing cause I have spent so long being broody!

tanmu82 · 12/02/2010 19:46

I'm only taking folic acid - should I be on a vitamin too?

Kayzr · 12/02/2010 19:40

Loopy that is great news!!

Tanmu, I am very excited that we are on our first 2WW!!!

Bebe, I use pregnacare I didn't mind the taste. We do hae some orange vitamin c tablets that you have to chew and they are vile.

bebejones · 12/02/2010 19:35

Pregnacare used to make me feel yuk, taste is horrid! And when I got pregnant I couldn't take them at all as I couldn't eat & you have to take them with a meal! Good news on your DH's job & your laser eye surgery! Have you got a time in mind for TTC?

OP posts:
tanmu82 · 12/02/2010 19:19

good news loopy, you TTC from now or got a future date when you're gonna start?

loopylou2 · 12/02/2010 18:45

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit of a lurker but would like to share some good news- this week myself and DP have made big strides towards it being the right time to TTC.

I have paid for my laser eye surgery which I vowed to myself I would get before TTC (just sick of wearing glasses, the idea of giving birth and needing my specs to see my newborn horrifies me!)

and DP has got a job which is lovely and a big relief after 7 weeks unemployed!! So I am way relieved that money is coming in again.

Oh and on a less positive note, I am now on my second pack of pregnacare conception vits and am realising that you do not 'get used' to the taste. yuk.

Anyway, hope everyone else is getting a handle on life too. Happy February. xx

tanmu82 · 12/02/2010 10:44

mrswill no we didn't use anything, and I started taking folic acid end of Jan. I stopped taking the pill when my last packet finished....the idea being that I learn what my 'normal' cycle is like before we started TTC properly.....DH keeps changing his mind about when we start - sometimes he says we can go for it now, other times he says June....I don't think either of us would be too unhappy if it happened now, but deep down we both know that it is far more sensible and practical to wait just a few months more.

as for coping with 2, my DS and DD are just 15 months apart and it was really difficult at times, but in a way, easier as they learned to play together and amuse eachother from an early age. DS was such a laid back baby that he didn't at all mind the new addition - apart from pointing and asking 'whoozat?' when we introduced him to DD for the first time
my biggest tip though, is to get baby into similar nap times as older child as soon as. Then you can sleep/rest/clen (if you must!) I really missed my 'quiet time' when DS stopped needing a nap at around 2 years...

bebejones · 12/02/2010 08:12

Tanmu82 - Quite exciting even if it's not 100% the 'right time'!

MrsWill - going to be on here til around Xmas, which seems like so far away! My DH has gone from wanting 5 to now saying we should stick at 1! I think it might have something to do with DD being so demanding! She is 18months & a proper handful! Like your DD she needs constant entertainment. My mum insists this is because she is so clever , I think it's because she is a PITA!

Was going to start the folic acid next month but now seems no point so will wait til I come off my meds in Sept! I am taking multivitamins anyway which does have it in, but I always take those rather than specific pregnancy ones!

OP posts:
mrswill · 11/02/2010 23:34

Hello all, >

Bebe - like Kayzr, we'll be starting to try around July/August too, so still quite a wait, which means you'll have people to wait with.

Poorbearsmum - any tips on coping with two! My DD is 18 months, and needs lots of entertaining, and can get very whingy if not entertained the WHOLE day. Not sure how that will pan out when BF a newborn, and on hardly any sleep either. She starts school a year sept, so hoping it all falls into place!

Tammu82 - did you use contraception [nosy TMI emoticon]. If not, we could be in for the 1st proper 2WW!

Am happy waiting to TTC at the moment, as long as I know we're going to start trying on a specific month. DP isnt too keen on idea at the moment, and only wants one child, so we're having a few discussions....
But needless to say, Im a woman who gets what she wants, so DP will have to come round to my way of thinking

Anyone on folic acid yet.....

MACACO · 11/02/2010 20:54

Sounds like me tanmu we had been less than totally careful and my period was late (altho I am quite irregular) and I was quite concerned I was actually pg! Not the best time just now (hence being on this thread ) so I was v relieved when af arrived!

tanmu82 · 11/02/2010 20:42

yeah 24yrs is a lot - they are half brothers by his dad, and obviously our son is older than his uncle!

Me and DH did the deed a couple times this week (sorry if TMI) and now am actually worried that I WILL be pg. I'm terribly broody, but we're not quite ready financially yet. So now I face my first 2ww but hoping that I'm NOT pg. Ironic really.....

bebejones · 11/02/2010 18:39

Thanks PBM! I'm sure it will all work out in the end, & they assure me I can stop these drugs no problem at all, so fingers crossed they don't make me feel too rough!

OP posts:
Poohbearsmom · 11/02/2010 18:24

Oh Bebe ((hugs)) to say that sucks just doesnt cut it! i am so sorry, i really hope the new drugs provide real good long term help to you & ul b holdin your new baba sooner rather then later xxx

bebejones · 11/02/2010 18:23

Yay PBM, you found us!

I worry about how I will love another baby as much as DD, she is very demanding & needs lots of entertainment & I get worried that I will find it difficult with another baby as well. But everyone assures me that you somehow just sort of 'do it', I'm not so sure! But seeing as I am now going to be having a bigger age gap than planned that might make it easier!

AmandaCooper · 11/02/2010 08:20

Community support is something quite a lot of us are lacking isn't it. I don't even have many people I can talk about wanting to TTC with, in fact mostly I have to keep quiet about it.

bebejones · 10/02/2010 22:31

Medication has some nasty side effects. It's self injecting once a week as well which doesn't appeal. Also makes you feel like you have flu for about 24-48hours each time! But that apparently gets better after a few weeks of treatment. There are other things but I can't think of them off the top of my head!

DH's youngest sister is nearly 16 years younger than him. In fact she actually has a nephew older than her! Did anyone she that Indian woman who had a baby at 60 or 70 something? The whole village celebrated it was weird but heartwarming at the same time, or maybe I am just a bit to soppy!

OP posts:
MACACO · 10/02/2010 22:17

Hello ladies, been veeeery busy with work(good for taking my mind off babies). But everyone's popping all around me, that or getting pregnant. another friend has just gone overdue. Maybe I just notice it more cos I feel broody or maybe the whole world really is pregnant.
Wow, that's some amazing age gap, 24 years! If we go for it after easter and it happens straightaway then we'd have a 2,9 yr gap but I doubt that'll happen so will probably be more like 3 yrs plus which I think's quite a nice gap.
Bebejones I think your plan for medication and ttc sounds like a good idea, even if it is a bit disappointing for you. Does the medication have any side effects apart from not being able to ttc?

Kayzr · 10/02/2010 21:13

Blooming hell!! 24 years is a bit of an age gap. Did you hear about Enrique's granddad? He was 94 and his wife was expecting his baby through IVF. Well the babies older brother Julio is 64 years older than him!!!

Bebe, 3 years is nothing. Believe me. DS1 is nearly 3 and I swear I only had him yesterday!!!

tanmu82 · 10/02/2010 21:06

no, three years is not really a big gap at all....by the time I have another my youngest will be at least 6 years old.....never thought there'd be that much of a gap.....but then my DH's youngest brother is 24 years younger than him (he's younger than our DS and only 1 month older than our DD)!!! Now that is what you call and age gap

bebejones · 10/02/2010 19:33

Got an appt beginning of March so hopefully will have started it by end of March, aiming to stop after 6 months (end Sept) so can TTC after 2-3 months! So prob around Xmas. Is not what I wanted at all. But had a sort of epiphany where I realised it wasn't about how I feel now, it's about how I will feel further down the line. The drugs will stop me getting worse (potentially) so I thought if DH is against TTC now (for whatever reason) at least if I went on the drugs in the meantime I would prevent myself getting any worse. Tough decision though, especially as we had always wanted children close in age. But I suppose 3 years isn't that far apart!!
