Shiney new thread before we drop off the end of the last one!

frakkin, I'm pretty much the same...there's so much I don't know about conception and fertility. I mean, I know the basics, but I am at a loss when people start talking temps, luteal whatsits and egg white thingy....never mind all the abbreviations. I hopped onto one of the 'buses' and hopped right back off when I realised I hardly had a clue what most of the 'passengers' were on about

Kayzr · 17/02/2010 17:41

Temp tracking is quite good but you need to do it at the same time everyday or it doesn't work. But it can help pinpoint ovulation.

frakkinaround · 17/02/2010 17:37

I need to put on weight apparently! Hence the getting fit kick cos I figure some muscle mass would bulk me up nicely.

I've considered doing temp tracking. Is it any good?

There's this whole void in my knowledge about conception and pregnancy! Once they're born I'll be fine, I know what to do then, but this whole pre-birth thing scares the knickers off me.

Kayzr · 17/02/2010 17:35

You need to take your temp at the same time everyday or it's all mixed up. I have to be up for work at 5am 3 days a week so I just set it for 5 everyday and just go back to sleep once I've done my temp.

tanmu82 · 17/02/2010 17:31

5am ! I struggle to get up at 6:15....why do you need to wake so early? How does that aid conception?

Kayzr · 17/02/2010 17:26

I'm losing weight. I'll start taking folic acid about 3 months before we start ttc.

I'm also tracking my cycle so I know when I ovulate so when it comes to ttc I know what is happening. We are going to try for a girl so it's easier for me to know what's going on. It's not easy though. I need to wake at the same time everyday so the alarm goes off at 5am everyday. Zzzzzzzz

tanmu82 · 17/02/2010 16:44

yeah, that's my plan.....I don't need to lose any weight, but I could do with a tone up and besides, I signed up for a 10k so need to get training.....
Otherwise, I just stalk MN lol

frakkinaround · 17/02/2010 16:41

So what else is everyone doing before TTC?

I was just going for getting fit and taking folic acid!

Kayzr · 17/02/2010 15:24

The first response tests can be used about 4 days before you are due.

tanmu82 · 17/02/2010 15:22

how early can you test?

tanmu82 · 17/02/2010 15:20

No, i haven't done a test yet (tho I'm excited that anyone is actually interested!) It's actually only been just over a week, but def feels more like 2.

I swing wildy from feeling like I must be pg one minute to thinking that it would be ridiculous to think that it would happen so easily the next. Also, the last few months I have started to experience on and off mild nausea in the run up to AF's visit, so am just gonna be patient and not spend ages thinking about the what if's.....will def keep y'all posted tho

Kayzr · 17/02/2010 15:07

Yes I meant done a pregnancy test. Surely it's been 2 weeks. I'll just have to wait. Do you feel pregnant?

tanmu82 · 17/02/2010 14:58

I haven't ever tested for anything - except what they test you for during routine blood tests in pregnancy! I have 2 DC's and both times they were a 'surprise' so haven't done the whole TTC thing before. Errr, or did you mean have I done a pg test yet? AF isn't due until next tues or so.....

I was thinking that if I get AF this month, then I'm going to book an appointment and ask GP's advice....prob almost due a smear now so could get that done (speaking of smear, I had one done when I was pregnant with DD as didn't know yet!)

Kayzr · 17/02/2010 14:06

Panda, your GP sounds very annoying. I wasn't tested for toxoplasmosis when I was pregnant. I've always read that you should get your DH/DP to do the litter tray.

I wonder if Tanmu2 has tested or anything yet!!

bebejones · 17/02/2010 13:51

Meant to add, I think you are more likely to get Toxoplasmosis from unwashed veg & salad as I think it needs to be ingested. So perhaps use gloves & wash hands thoroughly after doing the litter tray if you are worried!

OP posts:
bebejones · 17/02/2010 13:49

Oh no Panda, how frustrating & unhelpful! The NHS have a stop smoking online help here Never smoked so no advice really!
I do have cats who use litter tray, much to my frustration I might add! I tested negative for Toxomplasmosis when they did blood tests at my booking in when PG with DD. They cam back negative & I have been doing litter trays for years! I just made DH do the litter tray when I was PG...still do! I was fairly certain that I had Ruebella immunity as I had the vaccine twice! So I didn't check beforehand. I will probably have a smear before TTC though but prob won't discuss with GP, he knows I want more children anyway!

OP posts:
PandaSam · 17/02/2010 12:54

Just thought I'd update after my frustrating trip to the doctors today - he was quite unhelpful.

When I asked about checking for immunity to rubella he said no, that they do that when you are pregnant. I pointed out that if they discover I am not immune then they cannot give me the vaccine while I am pregnant.

Basically I persevered and he eventually gave in and referred me for the blood test but I had to argue pretty strongly for it!

Then I asked him about toxoplasmosis from cat litter (I have an indoor cat) and he just said "oh i'm sure you'll be fine. Lots of women have cats" - which is quite unhelpful! Does anyone know how great the risks are?

But finally, I said that I would like help to give up smoking - and he said "oh sorry, we don't do that here anymore"! I thought you were meant to see your GP to get help!?

Has anyone else had any similar problems with their GP?

frakkinaround · 16/02/2010 23:03

Hi all

I posted on the old thread a couple of times but am now much closer to TTC #1 as I've stopped taking the pill! I'm also in that strange place where I want to but now I've taken a step towards it I feel all scared again... DH doesn't quite understand because for him I guess it seems a way off but I'm starting to track my cycle and will probably start folic acid soon. Does anyone know if there's a max length of time you can take folic acid for?

PandaSam · 16/02/2010 22:43

Hi everyone. I posted a couple of times on the old thread but decided to leave for a while because all I could think about was waiting to TTC!

Dh and I agreed that we would TTC in May - which when he agreed last year seemed like ages away to him - but now he has the Fear! He doesn't really like talking about it much so I have to contain my excitement and impatience.

So now I'm only three months away...bought my folic acid today and have booked an appointment at the doctors for tomorrow to see if I need to do anything else.

Now to give up drinking and smoking (have already read the allen carr book twice and it hasn't worked

bebejones · 15/02/2010 14:03

I was thinking about starting a year after 'the next one'! University I would go to has free nursery places for children of students. I had some lovely student MW's all through my PG with DD & loads more during labour & birth. Trouble is they have 3 times the applicants for places on the course! Thankfully I don't have a problem with needles (especially since I'm going to be injecting myslef soon) & am actually less squeemish than DH!

OP posts:
Kayzr · 15/02/2010 13:44

Bebe, I am thinking of training to be a midwife too. I'm going to wait until I've finished having children.

I do worry about taking blood though if I was a MW. O do not like needles.

bebejones · 15/02/2010 12:36

I have been trying to keep busy too! Less time to think about things & also less time to eat junk! Trying to do some major spring cleaning & clear out a load of DD's old clothes! She has way too much stuff! Found it diffcult to get rid of some stuff though so still have a fair bit! Kept all the neutral stuff!

Also been thinking about re-training. I had been thinking mostly about becoming a teacher. But a few years ago I had considered doing midwifery training & I'm looking into this again.

hello ladies, it's macaco with a new name. I've been really busy with work so haven't been on here lately. I'm still lurching between feeling really broody, let's chuck away the condoms, and thinking, Oh my God, how the hell would I cope with 2? How would I manage work now I'm so busy? etc etc.
Work's been a good way to keep my mind off things actually so I'm off to do some more.
