Shiney new thread before we drop off the end of the last one!

Amanda are you waiting to ttc your first? I think I've been working up to this for a while you see, as we'd always planned to go for number 2 any time from Jan this year depending on various factors. I went freelance last summer and it was really slow at first so thought we'd have to wait til at least October but things have suddenly taken off so we could go for any time in the next few months.
One of the reasons not to have gotten pregnant any earlier than now is that DS will start nursery in Sept and I may get HG again this pregnancy so I'd like some childcare in place if I'm in the early stages of pregnancy and if I'm further on, just for a rest! Also will help with work if he's at nursery in the morning.
Will take the standard stat leave here in Spain of 16 weeks but may do freelance stuff before then and invoice later, depending on how things go.

AmandaCooper · 02/03/2010 19:48

Ooh how weird to have one of your reasons for waiting suddenly disappear. I don't know what I'd do if I somehow got a windfall, I wouldn't be mentally prepared, that's for sure! I think after obsessing down to the nth detail it would be pretty difficult to just think "oh right scrap that, let's get on with it now!". I might even pull one of those faces so frequently worn by DH!

I don't think it's any surprise that the men aren't wholly enthusiastic about the whole thing. They don't have the evil hormones and they don't have the constant worrying about time running out. If I was DH I'd be asking for another year too!

What's everyone planning to do about maternity leave and childcare arrangements by the way? I'm hoping to take six months off and then reduce my hours a bit so that DC actually recognises me! It's an expensive business!

frakkinaround · 02/03/2010 11:53

Well I'm still tehcnically waiting!

I think men get scared off more easily than women because we prepare by tracking our cycles, taking folic acid, preparing to conceive - then we spring on them that we want to start having Sex With Intent and they need to go through the process that we went through about 3 months beforehand while we get frustrated waiting for them to catch up.

pipoca · 02/03/2010 08:12

It's quite spring like here actually too! AmandaCooper* I know what you mean, I think you read on here about people taking ages and think you might too, but I think you have to wait til you're ready in case you get pregnant immeadiately.

After getting carried away and then swept up in the excitement, cold hard reality has sunk in (i.e, I don't really want it to happen just yet) I think we're back to waiting a little longer before really going for it. Going to try to hang out til at least May, but going to start the folic acid now.

I don't chart or temp cos I'm way too lazy and I think it really is the route to total obssession! . There's no way I'd keep my broodiness in check if I temp'd or charted. (not doin too well as it is.)
From now on, am off the other ttc threads and going to try and keep sane for a few more months. At the moment I've got enough on my hands with work, a toddler and other stuff, without getting pregnant sooner than I really want.

I don't think 9 months is long to wait at all really, it was my orginal idea before finances improved slightly and put us back to being able to go for it from May/June or even slightly earlier. Now we're more back to when we could cope with 2 in terms of childcare, tiredness etc.

AmandaCooper · 02/03/2010 07:56

Pipoca I think the thing with MN is don't let the tail wag the dog, basically work out what you want to get out of it and work out how to get it. Don't dip into the TTC threads - certainly don't sit and read them, or revisit them every day. They will only give you a warped perception of how difficult it is for the average person to fall pregnant.

One good thing I got out of this forum already is that many people's OH's aren't all that keen on the plan to have a baby. DH has told me twice in the last two days that he wants to put the plan back by another year. I just replied that we are trying from December, it will take at least 9 months and everything will be fine. Bless him.

Anyway it's a lovely morning, hope you ladies all have a nice day, wherever you are x

AmandaCooper · 02/03/2010 00:16

It's not that long, and now the worst of the winter (hopefully) behind us, we should all cheer up a bit and the next six months shouldn't be too much to bear. Come the end of the summer we can start properly preparing and by then we'll only have two or three more cycles left to wait.

bebejones · 01/03/2010 22:26

Doesn't seem so long to wait when you say it in months! 9 months is less than a year, it's not that long! I shall be thinking of it like that as saying end of the year makes it feel like forever away! Shall be waiting til June to start charting again then!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 01/03/2010 22:23

Oh dear poor you Bebe! Right that's it: no more charting allowed for anyone with more than 6 months wait to TTC! We've each got nine months left of being footloose and fancy free; we should be getting stupidly pissed and dashing off on impromptu trips at 4 in the morning to eat soft cheese on rollercoasters and bounce on trampolines without Tena lady pads on, not getting our knickers in a twist over our basal body temperatures.

Also, it appears to be Spring!

pipoca · 01/03/2010 19:40

Sorry to hear you've not had a good weekend bebejones I know what you mean about the charting becoming obssessive and making broodiness worse. I think MN makes me worse actually. I'm getting slightly cold feet again after having decided to "see what happens". Been careless this month but may well end up being a bit more careful next month to at least get to my previous date of easter. I get broody and think "oh, it'll take ages" which is silly really as it could be immediate.
Think I need to stop thinking it all too much and cut back on my MN time.

bebejones · 01/03/2010 19:17

Had a horrid weekend if I'm honest. DD has had D&V for the past week (seems better today though) & now DH has got the lurgy too!

Definately think the charting was making me more obsessive! Feel better now I have stopped. Not really much point for me atm as DH is adament that we wont TTC til end of the year! A year ago I was in this same situation, thought we were going to TTC Dec/Jan, got to Sept & DH 'postponed' it until this summer. Now he has decided to put it off again til Dec this year! I know I have agreed, but I am very reluctant. But I can't do it without him!!!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 01/03/2010 18:19

Hey Bebe I cross-posted with you. How was your weekend?

AmandaCooper · 01/03/2010 18:18

Thanks GlisteningSnow, I don't want to get left here in this thread on my own with my biological clock ticking with great echoing sounds!

It's hard, but I'm trying not to read any of the other threads in the conception forum, as they only panic me into wanting to bring things forward when I can't. I think once you're charting, there's no hope for you!

bebejones · 01/03/2010 18:15

Don't worry Amanda I will be here with you too! Don't think I can get DH drunk enough for him to forget the condoms!!

Have stopped charting for now as I found it was making my broodiness worse. I'm just logging AF's every month. Was 4 days late this month & got a bit excited ,but hadn't done the deed anywhere near fertile time & used condoms. Probably just stress making me late!

OP posts:
GlisteningSnow · 01/03/2010 14:59

Don't worry AmandaCooper, I'll be waiting here with you awhile yet. Still 5 more cycles till I can start ttc, agreed with DH to wait until end of the summer. Of course am charting like crazy so I can be ready, and in a lame attempt to give me an outlet for my broodiness.

Congrats to you though tanmu, fantastic news!

AmandaCooper · 01/03/2010 14:00

No it is not a good idea for a thread! Everybody has to stay here with me and wait! stomps feet like a petulant child

Florin · 01/03/2010 12:52

Good idea for a thread Amanda!
tamnu- no news yet. Ended up not using condoms on quite a few of my fertile days so it's definitely possible but we will see. Af not due till march 12 so got ages to wait. Driving me mad and feeling really crap and tired think I have a cold coming :-(

tanmu82 · 01/03/2010 09:37

Amandacooper GREAT idea for a new thread !!! Yes it is really hard not being able to tell anyone. We went to my husbands grandmother's 75th birthday meal on Sunday and she looked at me pointedly and asked "when are you two going to have another one? The kids are getting older so you need to have one soon..." Well, I tried not to blush and just mumbled something along the lines of "erm, when we win the lottery..." I know she would be ecstatic if we told her and thought it would have beent he best birthday present we could have given her, but DH just isn't ready to share the news yet. We've only known less than a week ourselves, so I can accept that he needs some time to adjust without the whole family knowing....

pipoca, yup time to break out the folic acid....fingers crossed for you!

Florin any news for us yet?

pipoca · 28/02/2010 21:21

I know, I know We've gone from July/August to Easter to "ah well, it'll take ages". I'll probably get cold feet now next month!

AmandaCooper · 28/02/2010 20:56

Oh dear I think I'm going to have to start a new thread for you lot called "I'm supposed to be waiting to TTC but unfortunately I've got absolutely no self control"!

pipoca · 28/02/2010 19:36

Hello ladies, think we've moved onto Not Preventing Pregnancy (NPP) as we got a bit carried away and had unprotected sex! , and I felt fine about the prospect of a pregnancy, really excited actually. We're a month away from when we said we'd ditch the condoms and there are only 2 left in the pack. So, considering we don't get a lot of time for sex these days, what with me working a lot and having a toddler, I think we'll just not prevent. I'm sure it's too late in my cycle to have conceived this month.

S'pose I'd better get some folic acid!

AmandaCooper · 28/02/2010 11:50

Has it all sunk in now then? It must be hard knowing and not telling people, I bet you want to tell everyone! I was telling my mum all about my 14 month plan last night, which no doubt will come back to haunt me! Then got a drunken text from DH in the middle of the night explaining that he had decided to become a professional DJ. Obviously a FOF induced early mid-life crisis!

tanmu82 · 28/02/2010 09:29

..."but dh is saying that won't happen again so know that when I get my period this month (as very unlikely I'm pregnant from one go) I am going to be super dissapointed (I'm expecting tears!) "

Florin, that's exactly what I thought. and we are indeed pregnant.

Thanx for all the lovely congrats from everyone. Amandacooper, it was mental waiting for the test....I was actually quite nervous. It has been such a long time since I was pregnant it almost feels like the first time again.....

we looked at our finances, and whilst it would have given us a really good savings buffer and a holiday had we not have fallen so quickly, money will be fine. Just no exotic holidays this year!

AmandaCooper · 26/02/2010 17:32

Pretty much yes. I have loans to repay which I can't take a repayment holiday from, then I need a certain amount for rent, bills and food - not to mention nappies and cute little outfits and hemorrhoid cream and gigantic sanitary towels and cabbages.

I can see where your husband's coming from, my friends and I have talked about having pacts as well! Luckily my best friend is looking to TTC DC2 from December anyway, so hopefully we'll be able to coordinate our efforts! I wouldn't tie myself to that though!

Florin · 26/02/2010 15:00

He wants the summer because a) he thinks finances will be better (personally) I can't see much will change. Plus we have a holiday booked for end of June and he wants me to be drinking for that plus we will be sailing so think he is nervous about if but I don't think it will make much difference as I normally only laze around Reading magazines anyway!
we have sat down a few times with a calculator and spreadsheets! It should just about work plus we have some money coming to us from family which would make life much easier! Other reason is that dh has a best mate they are so so close and his best mate is getting married late summer and boys have decided that be fun to try at the same time (they do everything together) have tried telling him it's unlikely to work like that!
Are u just waiting to save up money maternity leave?

AmandaCooper · 26/02/2010 14:41

Of course I could cave any time after July lol.
