Thanks for the welcome AmandaCooper and hairytriangle.. it feels good to have somewhere to talk to others in the same boat as me!!
AC, Oooooh how exciting about your sisters wedding next weekend, I hope you have a fab time and that your sister has a lovely day.
I dont suppose my sister would mind if I was 9 months pregnant waddling down the aisle either..its just I have always been on the slightly large side and I am just beginning to loose my weight ..for me... so I really want to do the whole 'slim bridesmaid' thing b4 we start TTC. Altough I will prob have it all to loose again after baby is born...but it will all be worth it .

AmandaCooper · 03/06/2010 19:02

Welcome SoppySue! It sounds like we have some reasons in common! My sister's wedding is next weekend though! I remember about nine months ago I was thinking that we'd reached the cut off date for slotting a baby in before my bridesmaid's duties. Not that sis would have minded a bit if I'd been waddling around 9 months pg!

Hairy I don't mind at all - all thoughts welcome! I don't know is the answer. I'm toying with the idea of stopping after this pack but I think DH will freak out! Also the grass is always greener on the other side isn't it? Once I was off the pill I'd probably find actively preventing each time so frustrating!

Still, you're not the first person to suggest it and I suppose there's not that much waiting time left really. Took the last one in the pack yesterday, so I've got a week to think about it! It would be a shame if I got to December and my cycles hadn't settled down yet.

hairytriangle · 02/06/2010 22:24

Welcome Soppysue

hairytriangle · 02/06/2010 22:23

Amandacooper have just read back through some of your posts.

May I offer some suggestions (without being patronising - feel free to tell me to feck off!)

Could you think about another form of contraception that isn't hormonal, like the cap or diaphragm or something like that? That way you would be preparing your body well prior to the time you want to conceive.

I think you're doing SO well to pay back your debts! I'm impressed!

soppysue · 02/06/2010 20:08

Hi All,
Please could I join you? ..I have been lurking here for a while now..not knowing whether I was qualified to join you or not!!!
as DH and I have decided that we will TTC#2 however we have decided to wait at least a year or so first, this is due to a number of reasons , the main two being needing to save a bit of money up to have something behind us and also the fact that i am a chief bridesmaid at my sisters wedding next year and have been loosing weight (1.5 stone so far) as i really want to be a slim bridesmaid!!
Our DD is 5 and she was a difficult baby, she never slept, had probs with bowel movemnets etc, etc ...had she been easier as a baby I feel we may have already had a second by now!!!

Anyhow, here we are, and I was just reading AC'S AND QUODLIBET's comments about taking the pill, I too am still taking my pill at present but like you AC will be thinking about coming off it in a few months to try get my body back to some normality before starting TTC.
I will look forward to chatting with you all, sorry for the long post

Quodlibet · 02/06/2010 13:48

I know how you feel AC about taking the pill and feeling like you're making yourself infertile - it feels a bit like an anti-advent calendar to me, every day you open another window and delay the arrival of Baby Jesus! Have made an agreement with my DP that when my current stock runs out in September we will have a discussion about whether I get any more, rather than just assuming I will take them ad infinitum. I'd quite like to see where my body's at without all the artificial hormones.

It's funny isn't it that we're all waiting to TTC for different reasons; money, careers, debts, house moves, health, waiting for DPs to make their bloody minds up and stop prevaricating feel ready...Any more to add to the list?

My DP had his first conversation with his male friends about it recently - apparently men don't tend to chat about this sort of thing? So I guess progress is happening!

AmandaCooper · 01/06/2010 22:08

Can't believe DH is packing for the move! Our living room is full of boxes and all our books, DVDs and knock knacks are gone. It's looking a bit sad and empty already.

AmandaCooper · 01/06/2010 22:01

I probably will do in a couple of months.

PipocaThePedantic · 01/06/2010 21:58

could you come off the pill AC and just record your cycles and use condoms til you actually ttc? Might feel like you're doing something in the meantime? If it's doing your head in that much to take the pill I mean?

AmandaCooper · 01/06/2010 21:56

No I don't want to start charting and temping until closer to the time. Partly because I'm already obsessive enough (!) and partly because I figure I could have to keep it up for a very long time if we have a any trouble conceiving.

AmandaCooper · 01/06/2010 21:49

Sorry Pipoca - cross posted!

AmandaCooper · 01/06/2010 21:47

Agreed. I don't know when to come off mine really. There's loads of time before we start TTC but the physical act of taking one every day is really doing my head in, knowing I'm intentionally making myself infertile when I want the exact opposite. Some days I intentionally don't take it because I can't bring myself to, so I take it the next morning instead. Along with my folic acid of course!

Let me know if you try the cap how you get on. I'd be interested to know.

PipocaThePedantic · 01/06/2010 21:30

Sorry to hear that hairy, I'm sure you're really disappointed. But it's not too long (easy to say for me cos I'm going to start a month earlier). The summer months will go quicker than you think. I'd say condoms seeing as it's not for very long, I know nothing about the cap.
AC that is a STONKING amount to have paid off! I am stunned! I take my hat off to you! keep your chin up, it's not too long, even though it seems like that now. This thread started way back and you're closer than ever now. Just a bit longer and then you'll be in the best possible position to "go for it"! Are you charting and temping? I found at least roughly tracking my cycles gave me something to do.

hairytriangle · 01/06/2010 21:17

AmandaCooper gah don't be silly, nothing inconsequential at all! Life goes on! don't really like condoms, but am going to look in to the options, anything is better than hormonal treatments!

AmandaCooper · 01/06/2010 20:56

Oh no Hairy that's really bad news, sorry to hear that. Feel bad now for moaning about inconsequental stuff. Don't know anything about the cap at all I'm afraid, but DH and I used condoms quite happily for over 5 years before we got married. Will do again soon when I come off the pill.

Still, September is not so long off, only four months - and the summer months always pass much quicker than the winter ones, or so I keep telling myself!

hairytriangle · 01/06/2010 20:46

hello, bad news today, hcg up to 108. Doctor says there must be some microscopic material left over and so I am booked in for Methotrexate injection tomorrow - which means I am now officially waiting to TTC until 2nd September

At least the Doctor was very nice and explained everything to me.

Don't really know what to do about contraception , am deffo not going back on the pill or any other hormonal contraception - anyone got any info on the cap?

i have to say, I don't really understand the FOF thing - why would anyone want to have a child with someone who doesn't? Having lived with a man for 15 years that didn't want children, I'd never have poo-pooed his wishes or gone against them.

AmandaCooper · 01/06/2010 20:43

Pipoca you could have another LO by this time next year then - a May baby would be lovely, before things get too hot to be lumbering around at the end of your pregnancy. I hope you don't get sick this time, when you've got DS to worry about.

I would have thought that finding the time/energy for sex was nearly always tricky when TTC DC2! Do you manage to find much time for just the two of you? Wait till you've got two lol.

I think I've just been a bit glum cause I've got a lot on my plate at the moment, what with work and the house move and my sister's wedding and everything in between. I'm a solicitor 2 years qualified, so still very much trying to break even after paying for law school. I've paid off close to £18k so far, the problem is I won't be able to afford to keep up the repayments while I'm on maternity leave.

PipocaThePedantic · 01/06/2010 19:23

Hello, it's snailshavehorns back to a version of my old name...I liked it too much to give it up entirely, but hopefully this will make me less paranoid about rl people working out who I am.
Sorry to hear you've been feeling down AC, but it's not too long know, really and it'll be great to ttc from a better financial position. What do you work in?
Well, I know have 2 cycles left...! Going to wait til I've had my period in June and then July and then once AF is over in July we'll stop using contraception. Having had the jitters recently I feel more enthusiastic and "we'll cross whatever bridges we come to" about it all. So, the earliest I could catch is the beginning of August, which would give us a 3 yr 1 mo gap and mean if the puking starts like with previous pg I'll have some nursery care for DS while I'm retching. Don't think it'll be instant tho, not enough time/energy for sex!

AmandaCooper · 30/05/2010 12:10

Thanks SaorAlba I really do sound like a misery guts today, don't I! Living frugally when you've actually got access to money is really hard, so well done, you have my admiration.

SaorAlba · 30/05/2010 11:54

amanda seems like you could do with a hug today, whether MN etiquette agrees or not, so sending hugs your way. Sorting out finances can seem to take forever, but once you do see the light at the end of the tunnel it's lovely.

I've been living really frugally for the past year and a half to pay off debts. I miss buying things sometimes, but when I do have a wee bit spare spending 50 quid on a hair cut or £25 on some tshirts is all the nicer. Hmm, this makes me sound really hard up... we do eat nice food and go on holiday every year, it's just everyday extras that have been cut out.

hairy good to hear things are going in the right direction.

snails it's all getting very close! I think the whole thing's always going to seem a bit scary because it's such a big change. Having spent so many years trying not to get a bfp, not using contraception is going to be really strange.

Maybe best not to think of the consequences when ttcing or none of us would have the guts to do it!

AmandaCooper · 30/05/2010 11:41

Hairy the whole career accusation thing really annoys me too. For me it is my "career" that is delaying things - because it's the reason I'm in debt. But once the debt's paid off, having got myself this job should mean that one day, maybe a long way down the line I'll be able to afford a house and maybe even save a little something for my old age. I realise I'm taking the risk that I'll have compromised my fertility by then - and believe me that's never far from my mind - but it's a reasonable chance to take. Isn't it?

Maybe not - because if it turns out at the end of a horrible, soul destroying battle that can't have children because I've "left it too late", the world will make damn sure I know that it's entirely my fault for being greedy and selfish and not wanting to grow up, and putting my career ahead of what's really important.

AmandaCooper · 30/05/2010 11:19

Hi ladies! Welcome hairytriangle. Nice to have you waiting with us, albeit temporarily.

I am utterly fed up of waiting now, it has to be said. I keep wanting to bring it forward but it just can't be done. I'm not even on course for my saving plan - back to £900 overdrawn as I've had to shell out a load of money on stuff for my sister's wedding and my friend's wedding in Ireland and the flat move. I always knew this would be an expensive month but I feel really depressed looking at the bank balance and TTC seems like a crazy pipe dream.

Lots of my friends' babies are now well into their second year and they're all toddling around getting into mischief and generally being adorable. I'm so envious. I'm trying to stay off the other Conception forum threads but of course that's easier said than done.

I never thought I'd be in this position, I thought by now we'd have the house, kids, etc. Sorry to moan.

Bebe I'm really pleased the meds aren't making you unwell. Are you responding well to them and still on target to TTC at the end of the year? How's the decorating going?

Snailshaveshorns you've had a bit of a bad tine of it lately - are you feeling any better? It must be blistering heat over there? Not long to go now!

snailshavehorns · 29/05/2010 15:21

How's it going ladies? I am sooooo tired at the mo. Have had a horrible cold for ages, then coldsores and just recently, visitors, so late nights socialising. Well, not very late, but ti doesn't take much to tire me out when I'm up with DS at 7am.
How's the weekend going? I'm now within about 2 cycles of being able to NPP and swing wildly from excited to terrified! Maybe I should go over to the ditherers!

bebejones · 26/05/2010 18:41

Glad things are improving for you & that you managed to fight them off for giving you the drugs!

My Godmother was assisted conception, but it was her DH with the fertility issues. Not quite sure what they did though, and don't really like to ask IYKWIM?! (I only know what I know from my mum!)

Sending you lots of sticky vibes for next time

woops typo HCG went from 170 on Monday to 100 today, so that's a huge drop and a sign that things are going well naturally
