I think turning the percentages into tens helps a little. 90% in a year doesn't mean much to me, but if it's 10 couples, and one of those won't be pregnant at the end of the year, it makes it more real to me. Doesn't help when you're that one couple though.

I really do sympathise zippy and everyone else. I am (hopefully) really lucky for it to have happened so quickly. But given my symptoms I am not assuming anything until I get to see if there's anything left in there.

Glad it helped zippys, wasn't sure if I was exposing myself as a total fruitcake! So, you'll be getting a Christmas baby? Just a few weeks after us then!

I know knowing the stats doesn't always help Ozziegirly. I guess we all just assume we'll be in larger group who concieve by 6 months. But if 85% conceive within a year, someone has to be amongst the 15% who doesn't. Just feels a bit grim at times being in the conception remedial group.

However, looking in the bright side, by the time we finally succeed (and we will), we will be so well prepared and so ready for our babies.

Hypothetical (well, not any more!) and vix congratulations, that is wonderful news, really fantastic.

Zippys I really do sympathise. ANother girl in my office announced her pregnancy this week with the usual " I didn't expect it to happen so quickly!" joy. I am so happy for her, but it didn't help when she said " we were going to wait longer, but my husband is a bit older so we thought we would try straight away".

Her husband is 32, which is MY age!

I had expected it to happen for me by now. I've been off the pill since May, I am healthy, I don't drink or smoke, I have regular cycles, my DH is healthy, non drinker non smoker - WHY isn't it happening for us???

I do know the statistics, but I just assumed "shag = get pregnant".

kkas> as long as you can get some action in you'll be ok. I hope this doesn't upset anyone too much, but I actually only did it maybe 3 times last month, but we did get it pretty bang on all the signs appearing. So you don't have to be at it all month long for the right thing to happen.

I AM going to get pregnant in March next year (nice christmas baby) and if nothing has happened by May next year (one year on), which of course it will have done by then, then I will go to the doctors

zippys i know exactly how you feel and have been in tears everyday this week about it too. please don't feel bad about venting - that is exactly what this thread is for.

only news from me is that i think another fertile time will have been and gone by the end of today, with only one BD to show for it. i'm never even gonna know whether i have a chance at getting pg because DH and I are just too busy/tired/stressed to DTD at the right time. and when I do try to initiate despite all of this, DH gets stage fright. so frustrating....

Aaaw zippys, you're not raining on anyone's parade, goodness knows, if you can't sound off on MN where can you? I know how you feel (cycle 15 here!), but the fact is it just takes some of us longer. This info is from the NHS Choices website:

About 85% of couples will conceive naturally within one year if they have regular unprotected sex. Of 100 couples trying to conceive naturally:

• 20 will conceive within one month,
• 70 will conceive within six months,
• 85 will conceive within one year,
• 90 will conceive within 18 months, and
• 95 will conceive within two years.

There doesn't appear to be much rymme or reason as to why some of us get lucky immediately and others have to plough on for a year or two.

A technique I use for controlling teh disappointment is to give myself a target date for conception (e.g. April) and start planning to expect a pregnancy then. That way you can plan for your January baby and if it happens earlier its great, but if it doesn't, well, it doesn't matter cos you're not expecting it. Might sounds a bit bonkers, but I am expecting to conceive in February, and every time it doesn't work I tell myself it doesn't matter, my time is going to be February Actually that does make me sound like a bit of a loon, but it is (sort of) controlling the panic for me.

Even better, set yourself a timescale for what remedial action you are going to take. Give yourself a target date for when you go to the doctors. I was planning to go to the Drs in the New Year, but I've got fed up of waiting and am going tomorrow. Its primarily just to get the ball rolling on possible diagnostic tests (cos I won't need intervention - I am going to conceive in February - damnit!!). Whilst you do have to give Mother Nature a fair crack of the whip (i.e. a year), I think having a plan for what you might have to do to help her out can make you feel like you are a little more in control of the process.

Most importantly, carry on doing what you're doing and vent here. It will be worth the wait...

Muser, the bleeding that you thought was an early period sounds like an implantation bleed. There are plenty of reasons why early bleeding doesn't have to be a bad sign. Hopefully it's just your little bean settling in and making him/herself comfy that causing the disruption.

Please dont anyone take this the wrong way as I am totally over the moon for all of you who have got BFP's so quickly but there is there is a little bit of me that is so jealous , I dont want you to think I am raining on your parade or dulling your joy but the more months that pass and the more people I hear of who fall pregnant straight away makes me question what is wrong with me, why cant my stupid body get prenant. We have out xmas do soon and I was so certain I would have been pregnant for it. Each month goes by, working out when I would be due and when I could tell people, thinking about how the major events in our life like birthdays and holidays will change, yet the seem to come and go and I am still here not pregant and feel like I will never be.

Sorry I didnt think that I would go off on one quite so much, sat at my desk now with tears streaming down my eyes, struggling to see the keyboard and people due in any minute!! Will pull myself together and sorry If have ruined the good mood, I think I just need to let it out every now and again or else I will go mad!!

Muser congratulations on the BFP's, I bet you are pg! I would go straight to the GP and ask for bloods (I think?) With symptoms and good positives on the different tests, it sounds like the bleeding may be a red herring.... I'm really keeping fingers crossed for you.

I was going to come on and have a moan (sore neck with arm pain. Busy busy diary at work. Bloated and AF starting. Can't have a cig and really want one, stopped smoking last night)... but guess what, Muser and Hypotheticalmummy's news has actually cheered me up. Well done girls!

Muser I hope the spotting goes away soon. I don't know what the bleeding you had last week means but there are plenty of stories of women who bleed early on in pregnancy and then go on to have healthy babies. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I'm jumping on the band wagon - BFP, BFP!

Congrats on the BFPs!

So, I got a BFP too. Which is, umm, interesting. I am technically CD11. My period last time came a week early. After I had been convinced I was knocked up due to symptoms. 3/4 days proper bleeding, not as heavy as normal but worthy of my mooncup.

Started spotting today, thought period was starting again. Decided to POAS before bed as I was suspecting a chemical pregnancy. Instant line appears. Go get my Clearblue digital, hardly any pee left so didn't expect it to work. It declares me 2-3 weeks pregnant.

I should be bouncing around really happy, but given my bleeding and current spotting I'm thinking this isn't a keeper. But I don't know what I'm meant to do now...

Oh and I forgot to say. First bfp was on the 8th x

Whiteroses - I felt like someone had punched me in the chest from about 3 dpo and a very mild queasy feeling. Bloating too but the main giveaway for me was my bbs being so achey and my nipples felt like they had been sunburned. Sorry if tmi but these were my symptoms! Am now 11 dpo and feeling the same way but needing to pee more and also getting very hungry.

Was to hear your account of the old man being ignored this evening WhiteRoses. It's so sad that people are to busy and preoccupied to help. Which makes it all the more important that you did.

DH and I started off on our couple of weeks of BDing with enthusiasm at the weekend, but have been faltering somewhat in the last couple of days. Poor soul is now alseep on the sofa. As fertility friend reckons we have a week to go till O-Day, then I might let him off tonight.

Good luck to all those coming up for testing. Remember its not over till AF arrives, so as long as she's not here then there's still a chance for a BFP, many BFNs not withstanding.

Hiya Whiteroses that's awful about the poor man and nobody stopping... but remember you stopped and helped him, so he got the care he needed in the end. It's lucky for him you were walking past. The same thing happened to me in the West End of Glasgow last year, it was an old lady who fell on the pavement. Nobody stopped until I had gotten her sitting against a shop wall and called the ambulance. Then folk came out of the shop to help her. It is shocking isn't it. I hope you manage to have fun at MIL's birthday xx ps are you testing? Fingers crossed if so!

Ozziegirly that's a brilliant book you've ordered... I found mine 2nd hand in oxfam and it's really encouraging, easy to follow etc. You can read it page by page or just use the index to find whatever you're checking. It's got pictures of diff types of CM and everything! Best of luck!

Hamsterlover awww booooo we both started AF on the same day. Just keep thinking 'it's a whole new cycle, this is the one!' Well I'm spotting but I've been sooooo PMTish - yesterday I came home with the office keys in my pocket (doh!) and had to go in half an hour early this morning to open up grrr! Does anyone else get a bit daft around that time? I also get clumsy, bumping into tables for a day or two before AF arrives!

I did try one of my cheapy amazon pg tests yesterday, BFN of course but now I know how it looks and although I was certain AF was on the way, I still got all excited! I'll have to lock them away so I don't get hooked on them this cycle!

I'm really really keen to stop anyway, not just for TTC but I know how stupid it is and hate that nicotine has such a hold on me. I can do it! I can do it!
