Kkas - if it makes you feel any better, my hubby isnt the randiest man in the world either. We have had months like those as well, then we seem to go through a binge so to speak. So just go with the flow, (he cant deny you on the bed with the lights low and some sort of baby doll outfit or lingerie on...trust me!!)

If anyone is feeling down about not conceiving like we all get sometimes...consider this... IM ON CYCLE DAY 73!!!!!! Ive been to the docs and had a proper preg test and what little hope i had left was dashed. I am under a bit of stress these days, but when i moved from one country to another....i didnt miss a period..so i dont know how not being able to go home for christmas due to a technicality is going to make me miss two..coming up on three!!!!

I did the same as Yorkshire and just 'didnt prevent pregnancy' for a couple of months before i actually started counting anything, but now am scared ive missed my chance...what if im one of those people who have early menopause?!??!!!!????!!! Never thought during this process i would be wishing for AF, but i need her to know that im ok!!! You know...she really is a bitch...lol

Another portion of my rant will be this: Why do teenagers get preggers so easily...by a minor accident, by doing it once, missing a single pill and they are devastated and dont want their babies but 'do what they have to'and here we all are WANTING THEM! Sorry if i have offended anyone or have said anything deemed inappropriate but...seriously...irony????

Big congrats to those with a BFP..you deserve it!

chalky3 · 12/12/2009 18:31

Hello everyone! Been a long time since I've posted. I've been reading through everone's posts over the last few days. Congratulations to those who have had BFPs. So sorry to hear your news sevans, hope you're starting to feel a bit more like yourself again. Congrats on the new job Whiteroses, accepting the promotion is def the best thing to do!

Have been away from MN for a while. We sadly lost our dog a few weeks ago. Wasn't entirely unexpected as she had some serious health problems but still a terrible shock when it actually happened, particularly as she had been so well in the weeks before. Kind of put all my TTC neurosis into perspective and I really couldn't think about it at all for a while.

I'm back on the mad rollercoaster again now though and trying to stay sane! Very hard to do as AF apparently arrived yesterday, two weeks earlier than expected (would give me a CL of 26 days this time). Last CL was 40 days, was going crazy by the time AF arrived. From what I remember pre pill I had a UCL of about 33 days, always slightly longer than a month. (That was 12 years ago though).

I have no idea what is going on with my body now. Seem to have a UCL of anything from 26-40 days. How am I meant to know when to expect anything?! Feel like I'm going mad, please pull me back from the edge!!!

aly323 · 12/12/2009 16:24

Yorkshire, the visit to the doctor sounds like a very positive move on your part. I think it was a great idea. Most likely, you'll be knocked up too soon for any of the test to matter. Also, you could just find out that everything is in order. I just think it's excellent that you went and things went so smoothly!

Kkas, good lord, I feel like we have so much in common! I went out with the girls last night. Didn't drink, as I'm not due for af for a couple more days, but still somehow managed to come sneaking into the house in the early morning hours. I'm generally in bed, asleep, by 10pm. However, what I really connected to was your post about "stagefright" and low sex-drives. When not TTC, we usually only do it 1 to 3 times a month. Now, were up to 6 or 7 and it seems as though it might kill him sometimes.

I find that DH actually prefers for me to give him some warning. I also know that he has had to work extra hard to do it on command many times. We've talked about the whole TTC sex thing a few times. I often hear "you just don't understand." And he's right, I don't. We grow up given the notion that all men are sex-crazed and will/can do it anytime and anywhere they can. Turns out, that isn't really true. Especially of men over a certain age. My DH is only 36, but I know he's not the same as in his 20's.

I'm really trying to be more understanding. It is really touching to me that he is trying so hard. He has said that he's really worried that it might damage our "intimacy" permanently if we push it too hard. I really hate that sometimes I get so emotional and hurt about the whole thing. I'm working not to do that and to be more laidback. It does really help to know that the whole situation is common. It seemed to make him feel better when I told him awhile ago that people post on here about similar problems all the time (and then I assured him that I did not). One of my friends is also TTC. She has all the exact same issues. I think many do.

If I have my normal luteal phase, af is due monday. If the B-complex is working, it could be a few days later. I couldn't help myself and tested this morning, but BFN. I had promised myself I would wait until tomorrow. I should have waited. I was enjoying the anticipation. I have had a few slightly different things going on with my body. But, they could all just as easily be related to the acupuncture adjusting my hormones, the vitamins or my imagination. For now, I'm just waiting...

kkas · 12/12/2009 15:31

hi guys

yorkshire glad you feel positive about going to the doctors. keep us updated as you progress - but i'm sure you won't need it anyway by february

bunny and whiteroses sorry to hear about AF - treat yourself to something nice this weekend.

i seem to have forgotten the TTC last night as went out with my friends to finally celebrate passing my exams properly. needless to say, we had 6 bottles of wine between 4 of us... and i ended up being sick at a train station on the way home. lovely! i have never done that one before i promise!!! really not like me actually. i was so glad that DH was with me to make sure i got home properly, otherwise who knows where i would have ended up.

feeling pretty rubbish today, but at least it was a nice night and took my mind off all of this

Whiteroses That's a relief I'm sure... now you can get on with the month ahead! are you temping by the way? I'm definitely doing that next month. I just keep forgetting to do it as soon as I wake up...

Thanks Yorkshire - sorry for being such a grouch when we've only been at this for only 2 months. I'm glad you are feeling a bit more positive now you are a'patient'. It's always the way once you relax a bit, it happens or so I hear.

Have a good weekend all. Have a busy one so will take my mind off stuff I hope.

Just in from our gig tonight and thought I'd catch up on all the chat from today.

I think it's great that you've got the ball rolling with your GP Yorkshire - keep us posted

And, lol at Ozzie and "I thought AF was on the way last night as I had a crampy feeling, but I think my jeans were just a bit tight after a pizza "

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 11/12/2009 23:19

Thanks guys, I hope you're all right and it does turn out to be unnecessary. I'm really hoping I'm like bunnygirl80's patients, and the tests will just be the prompt my body needs to get on with things!

I think I'm overcoming my little bout of sadness that I'm now officially a patient. You're right Ozziegirly, there is a shift, and I've just crossed the line from someone who's being a bit slow to someone who might have a problem. But, I only might have a problem, and the whole point of involving the doc was to find out what the problem is so we can fix it. And we're coming up to this month's fertile patch, so we might yet render the tests unnecessary.

Honeymoo, really hoping that the continuing absence of AF means a BFP. You can have loads of nos before you finally get a positive and whilst there?s no AF there?s hope.

And bunnygirl80, sorry to hear AF?s got you. But where there?s AF, there?s the start of a whole new cycle with a fresh chance of getting your BFP.

Muser, got everything crossed for you that your bean is going to stick. This whole process is fraught with anxiety, but we will get there eventually ladies, and it WILL be worth it.

Ozziegirly · 11/12/2009 22:54

Yorkshiretea that's tentative good news I think - I know what you mean about now being " in the system" so making it real that it doesn't seem to be working.

I feel the same at the moment. I know it's only been 9 months, but I feel like maybe we're just not trying hard enough or something - but I think if it doesn't happen and I actually go to the Dr, it will be like some kind of shift - I will be a statistic; someone who has difficulty conceiving.

Weird, and difficult to explain.

Sounds like the GP is good though to have got things rolling so quickly.

No news from me. I thought AF was on the way last night as I had a crampy feeling, but I think my jeans were just a bit tight after a pizza

Muser I will keep everything crossed that levels stay high. Who new that this process could be so fraught?

rollerbaby · 11/12/2009 22:14

Muser, Hypothetical and Vix - well done you lot, am dead chuffed for you!

Muser - can believe you've left me - we had the same stats almost! Boo hoo... hope I'm not too far behind you!

Still no sign of AF and another BFN this evening. Day 35 so god knows what's going on. No chance now I think, so just waiting...

Keep us all posted as to how you are feeling and how it's going please!

xxx

bunnygirl80 · 11/12/2009 21:37

Yorkshire glad the drs was ok and that you've got the ball rolling with tests etc. Maybe threatening your body with medical intervention will encourage it into giving you your BFP.

This approach seems to work with my patients - I book them in for procedures to get their problems which they've had for months sorted and then they go and get better by themselves!

Well, cd 1 for me today . AF arrived bang on time, which surprised me as I ov'd 4 days late so I thought I'd have a longer cycle this month. I think I'll just class this as an odd one what with the stress of moving. Will just have to wait and see what happens this month.

Calyx · 11/12/2009 19:47

Well done for going to the Doctor, it's great that the ball is now rolling. I bet it is all unnecessary and you're pg in February without any assistance at all! But even if not, then you've already started things off. Keeping my fingers crossed for you too x

Muser · 11/12/2009 19:11

So glad your GP was helpful. Fingers crossed that you won't need any of those tests. Easy to say, but try not to think about what the results will be. If there are problems at least you can start working to solve them.

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 11/12/2009 18:20

Evening all,

This is going to be all a bit me me me, as I'm just back from my appointment with the GP and feel the need to share.

Drs appointment was quick and relatively painless. I just said that we had been TTC for 15 months (well, 14 1/2 actually, and the first few months we we're being exactly scientific about it) and thought it was probably time we starting looking in to possible problems. Dr asked me if I drank smoke or had an underlying medical condition and same for DH and then said we quilified for intervention and needed to make appointment for blood tests and semen analysis. Took about 5 minutes in total. I was expecting to have to produce my charts, to prove that we'd done everything at the right time, but there was no interegation at all. So mission accomplished - looks like we are now in the system.

Only minor problem was that I have to go for my blood test during my next period. Periods currently last about 4 days, and next one is due New Years Eve, meaning that my window of opportunity falls neatly over the bank holiday weekend when the drs is shut! So if AF doesn't arrive on schedule on the 31st, I may miss out this month.

It feels a bit wierd, I know we've been TTC for ages, but going to the docs and having following up apointments for diagnostic tests makes it all official now. Public money is now funding our conception efforts, so we'd better be serious about it! I am relieved to have got the process underway, but I am worried what the tests might show. At the moment I am quite good at telling myself that we're just being a bit slow and it will happen eventually / in February, but once we get the tests results back we could discover we have a real problem and my blind optimism won't work anymore.

However, testing won't be complete until the end of Jan, and I'm going to be pregnant in february anyway, so it will all be unnecessary! Blind optimism is functioning again.

kkas · 11/12/2009 13:18

thanks for the advice re stagefright ladies. i actually haven't told DH when i'm ov (like i really know anyway....). but after 3 months of stage fright issues even when we were just trying to BD every few days throughout the cycle, i told DH i wouldn't initiate anymore as that seemed to be putting him off. but obv that is not working, because apparently he only feels the need twice a month (yes - i have it recorded. exactly 6 BD seshes in the past 3 months). only 2 of which were anywhere near the right time. ugh. he must be the only man in the world with no sex drive.

anyway - i'll try to keep a positive attitude. especially because if i keep thinking about the negatives, i am sure i will start to blame DH, which is of course what i don't want to happen. i really do love him and we do have good sex when it happens. i'm sure we will hit our groove at some stage.

Whiteroses, your body sounds to be behaving very oddly. I have of course searched for evidence of intimate itchiness as an early pregnancy sign. This from thione Traditional Chinease Medicine organiastion website, re early pregnancy signs:

"You may have increased vaginal secretions(discharge, leukorrhea) either clear, nonirritating or white, yellow, foamy or itchy."

Perhaps not the most clincially authorative site, but possibly grounds for mild hopefulness?

Eleanora we did take the "lets just see what happens" approach for the first few months. In fact, we didn't make a conscious decision to start TTC, I just ran out of pills and forgot to go back to the docs for more, so DH and I had a quick chat, decided it wouldn't be a disaster if I got pregnant and thereafter let nature take its course. Initially we were Not Preventing Pregnancy rather than TTC. I do think that can keep some of the pressure off initially (especially if you are in it for the long haul, like we seem to be).

However, I do think its important to have enough awareness of your cycle to be sure you are hiting the target at the right time. I was probably a bit too laid back to start with as I wasn't even keeping tabs on my cycle length and we may well have missed a few opportunities, just because I had no real idea when (or indeed if) I was ovulating. Also, now that I've been charting for the past 4 months, I have a fair amount of data to share with the GP tomorrow. Which should help identify any possible problems / prove to the GP we've been doing everything we should.

I think I'd reccommend a phased approach. Start casual and up the monitoring and data colletion if it looks like it might take a while and you might need a more organised approach.

Regarding spousal stage fright kkas, I now take an ignorance is best approach. DH knows roughly when in the month he needs to be alert and ready for action, but I don't tell him exactly when. I have given him a 10 day window when he needs to be ready to leap or be leapt upon and so far it appears to be working. I also accept that every 2 days will be sufficient, so don't put us under too much pressure if either of us are too tired / stressed / lacking amorous intent.

I'm glad the stats were helpful Calx and that my choose your lucky month and start planning approach seems to be one that can work for others. aly323, looks like we'll both be having November babies then!

And whilst I know that we won't be getting our BFP till February, I'd better give it a fighting chance this month anyway. So time to find DH and leap...

Muser · 10/12/2009 23:07

Sheer chance Ozzie. There's so many different things that have to happen it's easy for something not to. I think it's quite an achievement for a sperm to make it as far as the egg, our bodies don't really help them along!

Keep going, you'll get there.

An update on me. Went to emergency gynae appointment today as was still spotting. They couldn't scan me as I'd only be 5 weeks. I've had blood taken and go back on Sunday for more, need to hope that my HCG levels go UP between those samples. That's good news. If they go down I'm back waiting for a bus.

Ozziegirly · 10/12/2009 22:41

Sorry Muser I forgot to include you in my list of congratulations!

I know you're all correct about the percentages, and I know it WILL happen (positive thinking) but I just can't see why it would happen one month, but not another month, if you see what I mean.

If I am ovulating, and DH's sperm is ok, and we are shagging regularly at the middle of the month, why isn't it working for us?

I worry that the statistics don't take into account the people who are "target shagging" who presumably should have a better hit rate.

Ah well - I have plenty more to throw at the problem, OPKs, I may look into acupuncture/chinese medicine etc. I need to feel like I am actually doing something about it!

bunnygirl80 · 10/12/2009 21:44

Hello everyone

kkas I've adopted the approach of not telling dh whether it's my fertile time when we bd. I think he's just pleased to get some action though!

Eleanora I was going to take the "see what happens" approach for the first few months. Then when I wasn't pregnant after cycle 1 I decided that I probably wasn't ovulating and would never conceive (I am prone to over reacting and very impatient!!) Started temping this month and it turns out that my temp did rise when I thought it would so the lack of baby after cycle 1 was probably down to DH being 10000 miles away at the critical point in my cycle!!!

My temps are down this morning so doubt I'll be joining the flurry of BFPs - although am only 10 dpo so am trying to convince myself this could be implantation dip! Not too concerned if it doesn't happen this month as mentally I'm aiming to get a BFP next month as testing day would be DH's 30th birthday so it would be a nice present for him. And I'll be able to drink over xmas

Calyx · 10/12/2009 19:28

Hi all, just updating the list with my new cycle today. Home sick from work (neck/arm pain, nausea and odd vertigo sort of thing now and again - think it's the neck + AF ganging up on me!) Going to go for a wee sleep in a minute. That's one thing I'm REALLY going to miss if we ever do manage to conceive... the being able to go and crash out whenever I want... I love my bed!

Whiteroses gosh, I really haven't a clue what's going on with your body, feel for you though. I still think if there's no AF there's hope that it's a pregnancy? I've read that itching 'down there' is a pregnancy sign, are you still getting that? Fingers are still crossed for you (and everyone else of course)

Aly I'm with you on the everything happens for a reason. I really believe that. I hope you get lucky before you need to go to the specialists though Love your attitude 'either I'll be pregnant or I'll have a kick-ass body'

Spirael brilliant advice. I'm going to choose the extra kiss and cuddle per day (next month I'll start the 10 mins exercise!)

Yorkshireteadrinker your advice and stats are great (as is your name!), thanks as it has helped me too.

Zippys I'm going to try positive thinking too, but April for me; my birthday's January, my twin had her baby in January so that's my time too. It's going to happen for you. It's only not happened for us yet so that we're posting on here and supporting each other when it's needed. Fact.

kkas what a bummer about the stage fright. What about not saying anything, just walking into the room with nothing on but high heels/nice undies and a big grin? I tried that last month and afterwards told DH it was ov time - he said he thought I had just been overcome by his masculinity and had to have him LOL!

I know I've missed people but this list is amazingly long, please know I'm sending good thoughts to everyone in the list even when I miss them out xx

Hi all,

Wow - many congratulations to the new graduates!! That is wonderful news. Hope it's a good omen for the rest of us.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while - work is manic right now. Not very much to report here. Don't think I ov until next week (though as it's cycle 1 I'm not too sure). I was planning to watch out for EWCM but wasn't going to start with temping or ov sticks or anything else, rather just to take the 'see what happens' approach for the first few months. Would others recommend this or is it better to be more scientific about it?

Thanks also to those who posted kind words about unhelpful comments from relatives. Thinking about it, am sure my mother would be horrified if she thought that she'd managed to put us off TTC by moaning about looking after my sister's baby. We saw him at the weekend and he's sooooo cute!

Have a good evening, x

Evening all

No time for a lengthy post, but I wanted to congratulate Vix, Hypothetical and Muser - great news!

Kkas, I could have written your last couple of posts... even the "stagefright" part. I also went off the pill in May, but waited till July to start in earnest. Now, I wish we hadn't waited. It's tough. I'm trying to keep the same outlook suggested by Spriael. Each month, my overall health improves. I am getting healthier each month. I'm exercising regularly, eating better, etc. Either I'll get pregnant soon, or I'll have a kick-ass body.

I also agree with Yorkshire's ideas. We've agreed to keep going as we have been until February. If I'm not pg by then, we'll both go to the specialist. We've also talked about how far we're willing to go for a bio-baby and about the option of adoption and what each of us are open to. I know that I will have a child one way or another. I also believe that things happen for a reason, even though I often get impatient and depressed when they don't happen the way I feel they should.

Despite feeling sorry for myself, I really am always happy to see the BFP's (HUGE congratulations to Vix, HypotheticalMummy and Muser!!!!!!!!!). They do give me hope. I start to get concerned when we don't have any for awhile!I'm sure, intime, we'll all get to post one.

Wow, a busy little flurry of BFPs there! Congratulations, vix206, HypotheticalMummy & Muser! Keeping my fingers crossed for healthy, happy, sticky beans for you all.

Many sympathies to everyone going through a rough patch at the moment. Don't lose hope, I'm sure it'll happen for you all soon! Autumn is a great time to have a baby, a lot of my very successful friends were born in autumn. So conceiving over the next few months would make for some excellent timing!

I know it often feels like it, but it's not wasted time for all the months where nothing happened. It's hard, but try not to let the entire world go on hold while TTC! I see it as an opportunity for both future Mum and Dad to work on improving their lifestyles so that future LO's have the best possible start.

Each month that passes, maybe pick one little new thing to improve... Like getting an extra 10 minutes of exercise per week, or surviving on one less chocolate bar. Or even something like sharing an extra kiss and a cuddle once per day! Each little thing helps improve the chances in the long run, and the longer it takes the better position you'll be when it does happen.
