Hi. I am just at the begining of an egg donation cycle. I am donating to friends of very very good friends who have had several cycles and have reached this point.

I started a thread previously, but have started one with donation in the title, I think lots of people think about donating or recieving donor eggs, and so I thought this might be interesting.

This is the 2nd day of treatment.

I have 2 girls, 5yo and nearly 9 months. I have wound up the breastfeeding onver the last few weeks to allow the treatment to commence. It was hard juggling the needs of the baby against the needs of the couple - I think I hit a good half way house. 8 months exclusive bring is nothing to sniff at from bubba pov [though I think she would go and go an go], and 8 months wait was quite enough for this couple. In my opinion, they have been nothing but accomodating and thoughtfull and lovely and would have waited and waited. It must be so hard for them thuugh.

I kind of hope to relactate - that will be another thread!

So here we go, wish us luck. I'm hoping the power of mumsnet will send many positive vibes our way.

Bring on the questions btw - I'm really happy to answer and explain anything.

Will admit to feeling slightly nervous.

Have scrubbed and polished, trimmed and buffed every last bit of myself. I really wish I had been organised and made the effort to have a pedicure, adn also my eye lashes and eyebrows tinted. The gas man will keep wanting to resus me, I am exceptionally pale without my war paint

Funny how we fix on the little details. I did this pre labout too, had to have perfect nails nad totally smooth feet

Have to starve from 6 am, so am thinking of waking hourly to eat Well, I do have 1 school run, one baby to sort, and a 3 hour drive to do in the morning. Pringles on the hour every hour seems perfectly sound management to me.

Sore boobs, and very bloated. Can't bend over too much it is too stiff and sore. Feel about rady to pop!!

Everything crossed for 9/10 eggs people. God that would be sooooooo good.

I'm not sure whether that was meant to make me chuckle but it did! YOU CAN DO IT!! I guess different clinics use different amounts of the drugs, and I don't think mine used very much, or I was just resistant - goodness knows - I don't think I'd really thought about it much. Do you need to make a decision before you get there tomorrow? Must fly to collect DS...

treedelivery · 26/11/2009 11:44

...still not decided about painrelief though...

I want an epidural That would rock. I want to be able to control my own voice and movements

I DO Not Want sedation - although I would feel happier if I had the conciousness you had SAM71. I feel drawn to GA - as then I am just out for the count and have to voice or movements, and it seems much better. But is would be a total bummer to die or wake up in a few months from complications wouldn't it. What with my own kids and everything.... So I have to have sedation for the sake of my family. Dont Want To though. Pah.

Hee hee - know exactly what you mean about the legs! My mother thought I was bonkers when I insisted on getting my legs waxed the day before I travelled for mine, but to me it mattered!! Your plan sounds good - no kids with you, and someone to hold your hand. When I read your post last night, I couldn't think of the best solution for you, and it sounds like you've found it.
You're nearly there... GOOD LUCK for tomorrow. I had local anaesthetic, and mild sedation but completely conscious of everything going on, and felt v much in control - it was fine - and I vaguely remember sleeping at the clinic for an hour or so after. V glad you will have your Mum with you - I would have struggled to go alone...
Looking forward to hearing the update...

Oh madcows - how magic. I'm so so pleased it worked and they have their girl

I think we have a plan. Mum will come with, dd1 will go to school and dd2 will go to nanna's. It will be their first proper babysit [she is a lunatic so haven't been able to before - baby not the nanna] but it will only be for about 6 hours so doo-able.

Had HCG at 1am. Had soooo many dreams I had forgotten it, woken up and gone back to sleep etc etc. Felt sick with worry this am, despite knowing I had it!! Had vauge panic attacks I took wrong thing or made a balls up somehow.

I didn't though

It's hard, this is someone elses money, and someone elses baby. I really don't want to make a hash of it. You know?

Suppose I better shave my legs and generally have a home pedicure. Especially as I sort of know the surgeon!!

Tree - well done and hope the next couple of days go well. For what its worth, I'd leave kids behind... you might feel a bit woozy, and not want to have to deal with them in that state. (I know what you mean about the logistics... I flew across the world with my 9 month old to donate... leaving my 4yo at home with dh and in-laws over (his first) half-term... The whole extended family got involved in the logistics to make it happen!) But it was worth it... I only produced 3 eggs (being on the (very!) old side for a donor - but now have a beautiful niece to show for it. So - it is definitely about quality not quantity!

Tree - have been lurking, and reading your post - I donated 2 years ago. This is the most uncomfortable bit from what I remember so thinking of you... 9 is a good number - and quality is what really matters... good luck for this weekend. I so so so hope it works, but as someone has said before, if it doesn't, try not to beat yourself up - as you've have done so much, and the result is totally out of your hands.... thinking of you...

peanuthead · 25/11/2009 13:38

Tree - Don't fret, 9 follicles is fine, say you get 7 eggs out of them, then 5 fertilise - that's still enough for 2 goes for them if they put 2 back. And chances are you'll do better than that anyway. You're not trying to make a football team after all...

cheers mi dears.

(also waves at northern lurker from April 07)

Northernlurker · 24/11/2009 21:50

Sure they would - they'll give you anything you want because they're scared of the hormonal lady impressed by your efforts!

treedelivery · 24/11/2009 21:46

OOOo tree range not battery.

Oh I love it. Wonder if mn would let me change the thread title again

I want a burger now.....

Northernlurker · 24/11/2009 21:40

1 or 2 will be perfect

9 is a very sophisticated number! You are tree range after all - not a battery mum!

treedelivery · 24/11/2009 21:32

OOOO you know what, today I had a folicle stimulatory burger of falafel, halloumi cheese, hummous and roasted pepper. It was blardy marvellous.

I live in a cultural void where falafel would need to be googled, so I enjoyed that burger to the max.

Good advice - Cheers me dear.

Can't believe the weight gain!! Pounds and pounds in days. Mental. Feel like am wearing swimming ring around my waist. I think thats why I thought I would have a vineyard bunch of grapes on each side, not 9.

Ah well. Who needs 9 babies. 1 or 2 will do nicely.

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 24/11/2009 21:27

Now then, don't get down. You are doing everything you can for these folks, more than most people would or could do. You are giving them a great shot at this but if it works or not is not in your or their hands. Nothing you do or have done will reduce their chances or increase them - it is what it is. Just think hatching thoughts

Come on little eggs! Isn't musmnet wonderful - only here do you end up rooting for somebody's follicles

I think you need some chocolate - got any in? Fudge Brownie ice cream would do as well - or cake at a push?

treedelivery · 24/11/2009 21:19

Thank you Northern. Am in need of cheer tonight so it is nice to hear good vibes.

Northernlurker · 24/11/2009 21:08

Tree - you are doing a lovely, lovely thing here. No experience of IVF but 9 follicles sounds pretty good to me - that is a lot of chances - nearky a year's worth of eggs if you were ttc by the 'traditional' method! Hope all goes well for the collection.

treedelivery · 24/11/2009 20:44

Will have finished by the weekend!!! For me anyway.

They should be cooked by Fri or Sat, then replaced into the mum-to-be on Monday or Tuesday.

I think there is then a 2 week wait for a pregnancy test. That will be a long 2 weeks.

OP posts:
EdgarAllenPoo · 24/11/2009 20:40

ooh just catching up after a busy period, hurray for starting stimulation though it does seem to be making you sicky -

hope it's all worth it in the end.

will they have finished all this before xmas?

treedelivery · 24/11/2009 20:38

Wrote message and it got eaten! Strange.

Ok, so had the scan today. Journey was a bit full on as dd2 cried most of the 2.5 hours, and I felt pants. Left at 8.20 and back at 7.10 so it is a fair old day with my hormone head.

Got [I think] 9 follicles. Sizes 10-18, but most 16. Only one 10, and a 14, some 16's, some 18's. SO I am a bit upset about the number to be honest, but pleased at the way the sizes are spread.

Bit confused!! I don't know if I should feel positive or negative. Lord, if I am no more halp than if they tried again themselves!! That would be awful. They are spending so much money on my treatments.

Back tomorrow [hope dd2 is calmer on the train] and then we decided if harvest is Friday or Saturday.

WOuld value some info on these numbers and how they sound to experienced people!

OP posts:
treedelivery · 23/11/2009 23:18

Oooo I will check it out now. I guess with the scan being tomorrow there is no need to worry as such but I do feel rough. I wish clinic had told me to drink. I have actually hardly drank at all this last few days as have been busy!

Many congratulations!!
