Hi. I am just at the begining of an egg donation cycle. I am donating to friends of very very good friends who have had several cycles and have reached this point.

I started a thread previously, but have started one with donation in the title, I think lots of people think about donating or recieving donor eggs, and so I thought this might be interesting.

This is the 2nd day of treatment.

I have 2 girls, 5yo and nearly 9 months. I have wound up the breastfeeding onver the last few weeks to allow the treatment to commence. It was hard juggling the needs of the baby against the needs of the couple - I think I hit a good half way house. 8 months exclusive bring is nothing to sniff at from bubba pov [though I think she would go and go an go], and 8 months wait was quite enough for this couple. In my opinion, they have been nothing but accomodating and thoughtfull and lovely and would have waited and waited. It must be so hard for them thuugh.

I kind of hope to relactate - that will be another thread!

So here we go, wish us luck. I'm hoping the power of mumsnet will send many positive vibes our way.

Bring on the questions btw - I'm really happy to answer and explain anything.

It's that floating on air feeling again...

8 week pregnancy confirmed on scan. Singleton pregnancy and they saw so much on scan today.

Lordy.

This seems to be really working. It seems this is going to really maybe happen. Can you imagine being them?

After years of it not being them. It is. Pass the tissues!!!!!

Aw bless you Scowl.
It did seem to all just happen really quickly, it takes no time really. Which is great reading for anyone thinking of doing it. Particulary if you live close to a clinic. The hardest thing for me was the 2.5 hours each way on the train [a magazine, a lunch eaten in one go whilst sat down, a huge city to shop in after the scan.....really really tough ]

8 week scan next week. Everything crossed!

amazing tree
just amazing
I have cried and cried reading this - i only thought you were mooting doing it no idea it had all happened so quickly

you are a great person x

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 30/12/2009 22:29

Ha - clearly not! They prefer you to have had your own children. Then there are a list of illnesses they won't accept. this is the site where I began looking into it all.

I think they prefer a BMI on/under 25, but mine is 29 and I was ok.

There is a desperate need for donors. Male and female.

I was a known donor and will stay in some sort of touch with the family, so the new law was irrelevant to me - but many people have been put off donation by it. It means that any child born from donation can trace their donor at 18. I have no issue with that, as I consider it healthy. It has chaned things though.

mumblecrumble · 30/12/2009 22:08

Did you concieve your own kids the usual way? Just think itssoooooooo cool. That we have the technology and that wome like yourself, even with young kids are up for it.

Is it something there is a need for? Do you have to be skinny to be a n egg donar?

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 30/12/2009 21:12

Hello mumblecrumble. Thank you for such a lovely warm post.

There was no reason that I know of such as cancer treatment and such things. So I am not sure there is any reason why their own eggs didn't respond. Maybe they aged very quickly.

It's just amazing isn't it. Big Fat Happy New Year for them

There will be another scan in a couple of weeks. The hurdles are slowly being passed.

mumblecrumble · 30/12/2009 21:02

This is the most mind blowing thread I've ever read on here. A brand new little life, from 2 cells to a fluttering heart beat! Amazing. And your selflessness and real beauty is inspiring.

Wishing you and the baby's family every best wish. Wow. Are you able to share why the baby's parents couldn;t use their own eggs?

hackneyzoowithbellson · 30/12/2009 20:38

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 28/12/2009 12:54

SCAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shows one heartbeat fluttering away.

The second sac needs rescanning, it was very early for the scans so they are looking again to make sure nothing has been missed!

One baby growing away. Keep going baby!!

I feel like I am watching a film or something. I also feel like I want to see the couple so so much. Just sit and look at them.
