Hardly the most original title but I didn't want to loose anyone (well that's my excuse for the lack of originality!)

Oh and Louiseh I LOVE dancing on ice!!!!

LeeWT · 08/01/2010 23:06

boodleboodleboodle great news!!!! You deserve it hon I'm getting a good feeling!!!

meita you're turning into a proper grad ma darlin .. That bean seems to be a sticky one :-)

Sam beat you to it, also on cd25 and awful cramps on cd23 so got to thinking but of course it's too early so was bfn.

cheepz I honestly think that if you know when you are ovulating you'd be better to bd a few times akround then than space it out because there really is only quite a small window.. Now if only me and dh could stop drunken bd'ing when we're not supposed to be ttc lol

as for me since were all talking about weight, before the mc's I was 14 10 and was fairly happy not catwalk material but I could buy clothes. I've put on nearly a stone (15 8) and I'm miserable about it.. It makes all the difference between being able to buy clothes that it and not and it's the only reason I don't wnt to conceive as I'll be so heavy. At previous weight I was size 16 and at this weight I couldn't find 18s to fit boohoo.

Anywayyyy it's my bday tomor (big three oh) so I'm trying to forget about it!

Love to u all (still wish mrs r would talk to us hope u r ok )

X

Hi All,

Quick question...I'm going to look like a bit of an eejit . I am trying to justify testing soon when I am only on day 24. Do you count day one as the first sight of blood that you have, or as the first day of heavy bleeding? Is there a 'right' answer or do different people do it differently?

Malotkins · 08/01/2010 17:26

Hi ladies,

Can I ask you a question? I have just suffered my 2nd m/c in 6 months. I want to try again as soon as my body recovers and have been reading up on vitamins and minterals for ttc. I was wondering what other people might be taking in addition to Pregnacare? I am taking; Pregnacare (since Sept 09), Vitamin B complex (since Sept 09), baby aspirin (since last week), Evening Primrose Oil (since Sept 09). I have just bought Selenium as I have read really good things about it. I read the recommended dose for ttc is 200mcg and there is only 50mcg in Pregnacare so I wanted to top it up. I will be rattling soon! I have also read 300mg of Magnesium is also good with a history of miscarriage. Have I gone a bit ott? I definatley trhink the EPO is worth taking as I noticed it greatly increased my EWCM (sorry, TMI!).

Thanks,

Hannah

Cheepz · 08/01/2010 14:51

Feeling major PMS - maybe AF arrive earlier than anticipated. I think tomorrow>

At least that means I won't stress about having got pregnant in a month where I have done just about everything wrong!! Now January, new year, new diet, new start - need to get DH to knock me up. How often do you reckon I should try and have sex!!!! every 3 days until high on monitor then every other day and on both peak days? That should do it but have no idea how to get DH to do that much 'work' normally its all I can do to get 4 performances a month total, its no wonder this is taking so long....

thefatladyscreams · 08/01/2010 14:37

You sound incredibily philisophical tigger. But hopefully the alarm would put them off returning. What news on your flight - does it look like you will get away OK?

Keep that multiplication going boodle - great news!

So sorry to hear about your dog Effilump. They do become a real member of your family and leave a massive hole. Big hug to you xxx.

A midwife appointment, blimey that makes it all sound "official" meita! Good on you. Can I ask a question - when you had the blood test for early menopause was that testing your FSH levels and did it take long to organise?

Predicting more snow here. We haven't been out for days but the up side is we've eaten all the Christmas leftovers. The downside is the cupboards are looking distinctly bare so we're venturing out tonight to try to replenish stocks. DH has worked out that we can last to Monday before we have absolutely nothing left (but that would involve having eaten the ancient tins of pilchards etc lurking at the back of the cupboard). Oh joy!

OP posts:
boodleboot · 08/01/2010 13:37

tigger sorry forgot to acknowledge your break in....so sorry that happened, rubbish isn't the word. well done for being such a grown up about it.....i would probably have moved the first time as am a total scaredy cat!

tigger15 · 08/01/2010 13:30

TFLS we've only discovered some cash missing so far and hopefully that's just it. It wasn't as bad as the last burglary we had in another place where they really ransacked the place. This time we had an alarm and it did bother them as they were in and out in exactly 2 minutes. It's just such a pain having to do all the fixing of the broken window, sorting things out with the police and everyone claiming they can't do it because of the snow. I'm not sure how I'll feel when we're away as the house will be unattended then but at the moment it feels much better than the last time as I can compare it and feel that we've come off better (nothing sentimental taken and minimal mess instead of a ransacked home).

I'm trying to take a view that hopefully this will serve as karmic protection to us getting things stolen while on holiday or us broken into while we're away. Both of which have happened in the past.

Effi really sorry to hear about your dog. There is nothing quite like losing a pet. Hopefully there is some great balance which is now going to bring you loads of good things in return.

Meita · 08/01/2010 13:23

Ok perhaps need to add that most people wouldn't be worrying about those things anyway... It's just that as I'm studying the experience of undergoing IVF for my PhD, I know waaaay too much of all the reasons why you can't conceive and all the things that can go wrong after you have conceived. So for me this was indeed two things less to worry about, whereas most people would probably not even think to worry about them before starting TTC.

Meita · 08/01/2010 13:16

boodle that's excellent news! Now roll on the scan in two weeks. Plenty of sticky-right-place thoughts your way.

RunFor, cheepz, nice of you to say that, but actually it is not really 'knowledge' - more like half-known stuff which can actually be the most dangerous kind of 'knowing'. Scraped together bits and pieces of information of the internet and some books and from discussion forums... so please do take it all with a grain (at least) of salt (although I understand that salt reserves are running low these days ). On the other hand, you are welcome to take my random collection of info as a starting place for finding out more yourself.

cheepz perhaps your friend would find it less daunting to talk to a GP about PCOS if she knew it was (at least initially) just a matter of a simple blood test. I had that done last January, before starting TTC, because my period was extremely late but there was no way I could have been pg. By the time the results had come in, AF had arrived too, so I wasn't too worried - but still relieved. At the same time they had tested for early menopause and I was also quite glad that that came back negative too. When we started TTC soon after, it was two things less to worry about.

boodleboot · 08/01/2010 12:49

effi...so sorry

My levels are back good and strong and have doubled and nearly doubled again?..doubling time 25hrs not 48hrs

1st level: 112
2nd level: 416

Will be retested on Monday to see my doubling rate again but feel pretty soothed by this news....

will post later when have bit more time, hi to everyone tho!! xxxx

effi am so sorry; some people don't get how much our pets mean to us. Despite a miscarriage and losing both my mum and latterly my dad, the most I have EVER cried was when our beloved ginger tom Stan got run over. Not sure if that is something I should admit but hey.... . Thinking of you.

hope everyone else ok

Cheepz · 07/01/2010 21:20

meita as always you are the font of all knowledge on this matter. I have been trying to persuade her to go see a doctor to just see if there is anything medical they can test for but I think she is worried they will find something wrong and is not going on that basis. but as you say could provide peace fo mind. Had read that about raspberry leaf tea but not sage so thats a good call, had also heard refence to agnus cactus but had no idea what it was so thats good too. Totally hearing that none of it should be used lightly or without properly considering options.

effi heart goes out to you hon. thats awful.

Meita · 07/01/2010 15:01

viv such good news! I'm sure that's a huge weight off your back. Yeah, very bad luck. Unfortunately it's quite common statistically, but it is still really bad luck and painful.

jollster good to hear that your cycle is back in sync. It can be such a relief simply to know that the MC hasn't messed up things for good... You might still get a BFP this month, and if you don't, well, the year is young still.

lee I'm all for implantation cramps as well Then you and samB can tell your two beans that they implanted on the same day . sam glad to hear the temp went up again. Hope it stays there!

TFLS I'm ok and hanging in there. Will see midwife for the first time in a week today. Looking forward to that! Rivyta - will look out for them when I go shopping in a bit, thanks. How are you doing?

Aw effilump and tigger. Sounds like you both are having a rough time. So sorry about your dog, effi... it's just so heart-wrenching. A burglary can be a very distressing experience tigger. When your home is so violated, it sort of doesn't feel like the safe space it used to. I hope at least not too much was taken.

Meita · 07/01/2010 14:46

boodle glad to hear the result was ok, although you had to wait an extra day for it. Now hoping that you'll get an about doubled value today!

cheepz well extra-long but regular cycles can be due to a very long luteal phase and/or late ovulation. The luteal phase can probably only account for so much, as I haven't heard of any that last longer than 18 days. So even if her LP was at the upper extreme, that would still mean she is ovulating late, i.e. on/around CD 24. At least a long LP is no reason for worry - it's when your LP is too short that you have trouble conceiving.
More likely the main reason is delayed ovulation. I read something very helpful about that recently... now where was that? I'll post a link if I remember. The main gist was that ovulation basically needs LH and FSH at high levels to occur. Now there are various possible reasons why those two hormones don't rise, it can be due to these hormones themselves, or due to the hormones which make these hormones start, or even to that part of the brain that makes these hormones that start the other hormones start. So, overall it seems like you cannot know the real cause without undergoing intense testing.
What you can do on the other hand, is try to stimulate your FSH and LH. You need Estrogens for that, and natural estrogens are found for instance in sage and in raspberry leaf. In German speaking countries, herbal lore seems to be more widespread still, and many many women who are TTC will drink herbal teas built around sage and raspberry leaf pre-ovulation, switching to teas based on lady's mantle (gestagen) post-ovulation.
The other possibility I'd mention is agnus castus. I never took it and don't know the details of how it works, but it is said to be cycle-regulating. I.e. short cycles tend to become longer, long cycles tend to become shorter. It is powerful stuff but it doesn't work for everyone and some people get exactly the opposite effect from what they were trying to achieve. But others swear on it and are so glad that their forever-cycles have come down to a more manageable length; or their ultra-short cycles have lengthened to a level where it becomes more feasible to conceive. It's fairly common for treating PMS and symptoms of approaching menopause, so you can buy it lots of places, for instance Boots have their own brand, which is quite cheap.
I'll repeat that I'm not providing medical advice. Herbal stuff is not "safe because it's natural" - anything that can have the desired effect can also have undesired effects. But everything I mentioned is freely available over the counter without prescription. Please do read the leaflet, whatever you do.

If the cycles are long and irregular, the same is true about ovulation as above, but an additional possible cause or issue to worry about would be PCOS. That can be checked for fairly easily by a GP. It's always good to have that worry off your mind, so perhaps you could tell your friend to talk to a GP about it. It can be treated and PCOS women do conceive and have babies - MrsR can tell you more about that.

Effilump · 07/01/2010 14:41

Best wishes to boodle
Having a crappy time here. snowed in. My dog's just died. Gutted. Can anything else go wrong for gods sake. I just wish I was off the WTF cycle then I knew where I was with everything, then I cud start thinking/being more positive.

thefatladyscreams · 07/01/2010 14:15

Hi all, just popped in to see if Boodle had got her results - yipeeee

I'm with the implantation cramps theory Lee!

How are you doing poppy?

Did chortle at your quickie cheepz. Impressive results on your diet. Our scales went dippy over Christmas - it was great. I was eating tonnes but everyday it told me I'd lost 2-3 pounds. Sadly it's working properly again...

Tigger - bad news re the burglery. Did they take much? Fingers crossed for you for Sunday. Interesting about a potential 6 month recovery period.

Meita - how are you doing? When I m/c I asked the EPAU about baby aspirin and they said it couldn't do any harm and may do some good. I found ryvita biscuits helped stop the nausea.

Viv - fantastic news re the blood results.

Samantha - I found lack of sleep really messed up my temps. Hope the snow continues in your area and the school remains shut

Jollster - admire your resolve in waiting to test!

OP posts:
Cheepz · 07/01/2010 13:29

jollster am am the non test crushing anticlimax can't deal with the pain person!! Which is why I won't be testing until either AF arrives or until long enough after she should have arrived that there is very little chance of it being a BFN.

And whenever it is that I decide to do a test it will not be one of those bloody ones which say 'Not Pregnant' - they are even worse than the ones where you have a squinting, hold it up to the light, check again after an hour line tests which are at least a little more ambiguous.

I also had a longer than normal cycle where I was sure I was pregnant - had symptoms up to my eyeballs and yet when the testing window arrived I had 2 'not pregnants' and 3 failed line tests before AF finally arrived. It depressed me so much we stopped trying the nexy cycle, and then it was Christmas.

Guess that answers your question Sam !! I won't be stesting for ages - I am expecting a 30+ day cycle this month because really I am still CD 25 - started monitor on forst trace rather than first full days bleed, and my cycles seem to have slipped into a 27 day one month 30 day the next.

Maybe someone can help me - maybe meita I have a friend who also had MC in the summer, prior to that she was having 36 day cycles but now has increased to 42!!! Has anyone else got longer cycles? is there anything she should get checked out for? its very frustrating for her and also makes it hard for her to know when ovulating - although she just started using CBFM - but its costing a bomb in sticks becuase she ends up needing way more than the 10 per cycle you normally use... any tips or advice I can hand on would be great.

Boodle heres to more HCG today, rooting for you

randomimposter · 07/01/2010 12:32

Boodle that's really great news... you must be chuffed. FX all continues to go in the right direction.
Sam... 2 reasons; hate wasting money, and am on a new strict budget, hence there are so many more things would rather wastespend money on. Also was struck by someone's post who said the crushing BFN SO much worse than AF arriving... and that really struck a chord. Had 3 BFNs when waiting for AF on my recent long cycle, and they really depressed me!
So... still planning to hang on. At the moment . Besides, frantic knicker checking is free... before the new government tax anyhoo...

boodleboot · 07/01/2010 12:20

Hi all

just a quicky to say have had my hcg level back from yesterdays test and it is 112 which is within normal range (range is 5 - 426 for 4 weeks of pregnancy)

will have to see if it has doubled tomorr for first indication of healthy preg.
scan in two weeks - still waiting for date from hospital.....

feel pretty pleased to have nice positive level at 4 weeks tho....God willing this bean sticks in right place!!

SamanthaB123 · 07/01/2010 11:56

Another snow day here, looks doubtful for tomorrow too. Gives me way too much time to think about things. Rountinely wake up feeling sick and have nausea on and off all day now. I don't have a funny taste in my mouth but the inside of it feels odd and nothing seems right when I eat. This is a tiresome business.

Lee Sounds good and a bit like the pain that I had yesterday. I'm hoping it was implantation too, fx .

MrsR What's going on with you?

Jollster Fx for your HPT Sunday, you are very patient!
