hi all

well I am on last month of clomid and had scan today, I had 5 follicles all good size but FC suggested we dont try this month as high possibility of multiple pregnancy. TBH we have been trying for 27 months to concieve and there is no way im not trying on the last month of clomid. So busy week for me

buttercup - I have had all tests to check for pcos/blocked tubes/ovulation/fibroids and they have said the only thing wrong is slightly low ovulation ( thus clomid ) and wonky tubes.
are you with your GP or a consultant? It is such a good idea to have internal scans cd9-12 as it really shows whether the tabs are working.
Good luck with everything x

Hello Everyone,
I've just found this thread and hope you don't mind me joining in.
I'm on my first month of clomid after going for 1 year without ovulating after I came off the pill. It's good to read all your stories and experiences, nice to know I'm not the only one going through this.

I haven't had any scans but I have had blood tests that all came out normal so my lack of ovulation is a bit of a mystery. Since starting the clomid I've been told to check my temperature every morning. So far it seems to fluctuate quite a lot even though I take it correctly, so not sure if it's going to be a good guide to whether I'm ovulating.

It seems like a lot of you have PCOS but are there any of you with unexplained anovulation?

Buttercup x

For some reason my popping on didn't work at all to get this into my 'I'm on' thingy, so am popping on again.

paddington

Hope you had a nice holiday.

These are a different type of drug treatment altogether to clomid. Now for the science bit (the following is taken from the fertility care leaflet on PCOS given to me at the time by the hospital subfertility unit I attended).

The most common injections involve a group of hormones known as gonadotrophins which are derived from human urine. Human menopausal gonadotrophins (hMG) contain both FSH and LH activities whilst "purified" FSH preparations only contain tiny amounts of LH.
All of these products work equally well in women with PCOS. Hoever, because the polycystic ovary contains many small cysts (which are in effect follicles) the ovary is very sensitive to stimulation by these hormones. In view of this, courses of treatment begin with low doses, and the growth of the follicles is carefully monitored by ultrasound. These scans may be supported by measurements of oestrogen release from the ovary into the bloodstream (or in urine). If monitoring shows that too many follicles are developing and the risk of multiple pg is high, doctors will usually suspend treatment and cancel that cycle.

A second gonadotrophin called hCG is given to stimulate release of the egg from the follicle in cases where ovulation does not occur despite normal follicular growth.

I have only seen the injectible kit; you usually have to inject yourself in the thigh and initially I was told to practice on an orange!. The sole reason why I did not go down this route was because I had to wait six months for the funding for this to come through!!. In the meantime as well the cons decided I was a suitable candidate for ovarian diathermy surgery so I had the surgery.

any other questions just ask.

Hi Attila,

I am under a specialist but it's much easier to get hold of the GP than the specialist. We are at the biggest unit locally!

I'm gonna do as they asked & have my blood test on day 21 & give them a few days to get back to me.

Big hugs Clure! I'm sure we'll get there soon!!!!

Baby dust to you all *

Clure · 04/09/2009 21:19

hi just popping on also.
I agree that like Fairy the service locally is rubbish!
Devon I too am an "older mum" had DD at 37 with clomid and have been trying over a year and now on 3rd cycle of clomid which up to now is unsuccessful. It is fact that fertilily declines after the age of 35 and more rapidly so after 40. We really need to push for further investigations/tests/treatments as time is of the essence (sp!)

Just popping on so this is in my 'I'm on' bit. [waves hello then disappears back to work]
