Thanks for all your comments
stac14 ive had tests done and they cant visualise my ovaries properly on scan due to my BMI. my own doc said this is a bit silly as i am only a couple of stone overweight. Anyway due to the fuzzy scans they cant do the follicle tracking with me but they said due to blood tests they can see im ovulating normally and by cycles are like clockwork so thats why they cant give me a reason why im not preggers! I hope to lose the excess weight and get scenned again(lost 20lb already)even though i had my babies at 14.5stone. So i guess if clomid doesnt work in next 3 months ill have to go for HSG test im v.worried about that as i find smear tests hurt!will have to be done though!anyone here had the HSG?

Btw beck we are cycle buddies!!!!

Fairygodmother1 · 15/01/2010 18:37

Welcome yummymummy - my best friend lost her first in very similar circumstances of not being monitored through labour & sent home when in fact her son had the cord around his neck! She went into full blown labour knowing she'd already lost him. I admire her courage so much. Her daughter was born under a year later with more monitoring & a c-sec & is almost 1!!!!
good luck with the clomid.

I'm gonna do my last course of clomid this time! maaybe it'll work.

Thanks Clure - feeling less overwhelmed, so much for no drama day...but thats another story. Thank you also for being there! feeling rotten with this cold/flu thing so you won't see me mon/Tue.

carebear as clure said, everything all depends on the HA/clinic you go to & your cons. I just hope they do what is best for their patients in regards to what they can offer.

attila I was offered 3 options - clomid, pinpointing ovulation & IVF. He felt my highest chance of conceiving was IVF. My hubby & I are willing to undergo this, at the end of the day it was our decision with the cons backing. I am ovulating with clomid & it may have kicked started something. We are all different people who react to the treatments in different ways & have different HA so inconsistencies can & will happen in regards to what we are offered. It's the luck of the draw. LOD is more for those who don't ovulate even with drugs.

stac how's the glowing mummy-to-be? When's your next scan? Are you going to find out?

What I fancy right now & we can't have is...

Large glass or two of Ros'e (spelt like that cos I don't have the right keyboard letters) baby dust

Hi Clure,

A big shout out to Stac as well.

I am doing okay thank you for asking.

Hi to all the newbies.

Clure - Good luck with your appt on Monday - write down anything you want to ask well ahead of time. No question is silly. If at all possible get your DH to come along to this with you. Such appts can cause considerable nerves and he can also ask questions and provide moral support.

Was always glad when DH came along with me to my appts with the cons, DH also came in handy after being told I needed surgery!!.. Seem to recall he helped me back into my chair!. Was not expecting that at the time by any means.

large sprinklings of choc babybust to all.

Clure · 15/01/2010 18:14

meant to say fairy - if you have another go at the clomid it can;t hurt your chances

stac - feeling apprehensive about my appointment on monday. Have got to sit down with DH and write out our list of questions

Clure · 15/01/2010 18:13

hiya all,
wow its getting really nicely busy on this thread!

Fairy - hope you are now feeling a little better and you know where I am if you need a chat x

stac - hi hope you are feeling well and taking it easy

attila - how are you? I was interested in your comment about the raised LH and FSH, I actually have a very high FSH and consultant has taken this to mean premature meno which is quite distressing.

yummymummy - you have been through the mill abit haven't you? wishing you well

carebear - both fairy and attend same clinic and we have been offered no monitoring. I think its dreadful that it depends on your health authority/clinic as to whether monitoring is offered. I had to ask for bloods but no scans offererd.

hi to the rest of you and welcome to new ladies - its a very friendly and supportive place to be x

stac14 · 15/01/2010 18:04

Hey attila Long time no see, hows things with you?

yummymummy sorry for your loss, thats a terrible situation for you to have been put in. I too have an underactive thyroid and while they say its can make it harder to fall pregnant if its controlled it should have no bearing on ttc, when was the last time it was checked? Always good to make sure your up to date. Have they done any investigations into if there are any problems or are they saying you have none as you have been pregnant before? I didnt have pcos when I had DS but now I have pcos so I would defo ask them to check you out.

carebear thanks hun, attilas right regarding you being monitored while on clomid and that you should be seen by a cons before April. My GP gave me clomid in December with bloods being taken cd 21, 28, 35 but only because I was seeing the consultant in January. As my gp said he didnt know enough about it to continue monitoring me on it.

Hey to the rest of you ladies xxx

Hi all, stac What does Metformin do? My gyne hasn't mentioned it. So glad it worked for you, its great to hear peoples success stories. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
I'm feeling a little rubbish today but DP is taking me out for a meal tonight so hopefully I'll cheer up and feel better.
Good luck to all ttc xxx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/01/2010 17:34

Hi Carebear

You should ideally be seeing the cons earlier than April. Its not good enough particularly if you are on clomid because you should be monitored whilst on it. No monitoring of any sort is a no no.

It should be properly established why one tube is blocked and this can happen for many reasons (btw have you had any form of abdominal surgery e.g appendix removal?). Can it not be unblocked?. Has a HSG (tubal x-ray) told the cons anything about the nature and or extent of the blockage?. Presumably something like this has been carried out.

Clomid's main and only job is to make the ovaries work harder - it will have no effect whatsoever on the workings of your other fallopian tube.

I wish you well

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/01/2010 17:29

Unfortunately clomid does not always work for all PCOSers and some of them are not actually suitable candidates for clomid in the first instance. I was never even given the opportunity by my cons to take clomid as in his words, "it would not help me". (I have PCOS and was diagnosed with this several years ago).

I have read that around 3 out of 4 ovulate on clomid but only around 1 in 3 actually become pg as a result of clomid usage.

Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder.

In my case PCOS caused my LH levels to go sky high; what clomid can also do is increase LH levels markedly hence monitoring is needed. Many (but not all) PCOSers have an excess of LH to that of FSH.

CareBear1 · 15/01/2010 17:26

Thank you both, that is lovely, just what I needed to hear.

Fairy, unless you've been told not to take it then can it do any harm to take another month? Good luck with the ivf - keep strong and hang in there.

Congrats Stac14 and its good you're still on here to give encouragement and hope to ones like me!

I'm ttc #1 too and my next appointment is April. Was given 6 months of Clomid but only decided to take it this month. As they don't know why one tube is blocked I'm terrified it might do something to block the other. really tired of it now.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/01/2010 17:22

Fairy

May I ask why they have suggested IVF? (and not say another possible way forward like ovarian diathermy).

I only ask as with IVF there is a risk of ovarian hyperstimulation in women with PCOS who undergo IVF and so careful monitoring is required.

yummymummy2010 · 15/01/2010 17:16

Hi,
Im new here...hope you dont mind me interrupting
I started my 3rd round of clomid 2days ago 100mg.First rounds were 50mg with no luck....stupid thing is i have no (known) fertility issues. I had my first baby 4yrs ago(no help) but things took a tragic turn at the hospital. I was a wk overdue and they were so busy that day i wasnt monitored properly 20hrs in labour someone checked me and my daughter was struggling 4 oxygen..10mins later they rushed me in2 a room, put me 2 sleep and sectioned me. it was too late tho she didnt make it..if they had been doing their job she wud b here! I then got pregnant(no help) a yr later with my son. due to them actually falling over themselves 2 monitor me this time all was fine He is 2 now i then got pregnant again (no help) and miscarried at 14wks. then got pregnant again and miscarried at 7wks. So here i am!!! hav been diagnosed with underactive thyroid....now under control. Im on clomid 2 c if can help us conceive as nothing happening for a whole year.so fingers crossed this is our month! 2 days of tabs left 2 take. no side effects!best of luck 2 every`ttc

stac14 · 15/01/2010 14:35

carebear Welcome to the thread, I have pcos not blocked tubes and got bfp in November after 2 years ttc, have had so much support from the ladies on here I cant bear to leave lol. I felt the same as you about needing to talk to people who knew what I was going through. All my friends fell pregnant easily. Hope your well and if theres anything you want to know just ask as fairy says we have become very knowledgable on this subject

Hi carebear Welcome.

We're all lovely on here & will def understand!

I've been trying ttc #1 for 26 months! I've now been taken off clomid & being referred for IVF. My tubes are fine but have PCOS.

When's your next appointment?

can anyone help? Ooh I have a conundrum (is that how you spell it???) do I take the last cycle of clomid this month????

Also am I allowed to stay without the clomid? lol. Maybe the next thread needs to be Clomid 4: The Experienced!!!!

CareBear1 · 15/01/2010 10:43

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here before, can I join in? I started first cycle of clomid yesterday after 27 months ttc and really feeling like I need to connect with some peeps who understand.

Have been told one of my tubes is blocked and likely PCOS but they couldn't confirm. Last time I saw the consultant he helpfully told me 'that is why god created two tubes'. lovely.

Good luck to you all. x

Fairygodmother1 · 15/01/2010 10:16

Hi ya,

Crawlled out of my sick bed to catch up on last nights convos.

Jo the fertility nurse was right funny with me when she weighed me (although I'm almost a stone lighter than last time). She asked me if anyone had ever given me my BMI. I said I have a wii fit & know I'm overweight - that shut her up. Can't believe she was off with me when only one woman in the clinic looked the weight she should be. The other women were bigger than me!!!!

Stac don't know exactly when but my referal doesn't go through till the bloods, scans & swabs are all done! The cons also said that although the clomid is doing right by making me ovulate it isn't working in the sense that I'm still unable to get preg.

Pops don't think he mentioned how many attempts but it isn't gonna cost because neither of us have children from previous relationships!

Beck It sounds like your treatment is the same as mine. My bloods only told me whether I'd ovulated or not, nothing about my hormone levels. I was told that monitors & sticks are useless for PCOS as our hormone levels are dodgy!

Everyone keeps saying how fantastic it is & I'm happy something important is being done but I'm also a realist in the fact that It's a tough road, it still might not happen for us, & I've gotta be emotionally strong.

I have you guys, some very supportive close friends, Clure is easy to reach too & of course DH (who is at my beck & call at the mo). Still wanna do some reading of my own!

Spreading the baby dust (un-fluy!)

hey becky i have been ttc for 2 years, at first do blamed the pill for lack of af, then eventually started doing bloods that showed no ovulation. Which suggested pcos. He then sent me to a consultant. I was prescribed clomid and sent for internal scans to confirm pcos. While on clomid i had cd 21, 28 and 35. I only ov'd once during 6 cycles. Unfortunately i am one of the unlucky ones clomid doesnt work for. Cons sent me for hsg, but there was no blockages. When i went back to cons he said my only option was ivf (which i would have to fund as have ds) could get it cheaper if i entered the egg sharing programm. I wasnt ready financially or emotionally. So i asked for 6months of clomid with metformin. I only took metformin for bout 2months and got bfp, i will be 14wks 2m. I stay on here as i have met lots of friends and want to know how everyone gets on. With the fertility monitors i never used them, was advised by someone on here that if you have pcos they are useless but who knows lol. Wish you every success with your journey. Sorry for huge post x

Hi all,

Hello to Becky and Laura and I guess from what you wrote welcome back ruguma.

I can't add much about the Clomid monitoring discussion, I am still on my first month and was told I needed the ultrasound because I was slim rather than to check ovulation, sounded like they don't do it for everyone in my clinic? I had day 21 bloods, and if this month comes to nothing will call to get the results before deciding what to do next month.

For those of you that have just joined I am in an odd position because I have been trying for over three years so the consultant put me straight on the IUI list and gave me Clomid as an afterthought. I am going to the IUI intro meeting in Feb so might only get two goes at Clomid before moving on.

Becky I have a fertility monitor. Mixed feelings about it really. Its nice on the months when you get the ovulating symbol but it was really expensive and the sticks are really expensive too. It also makes me a bit crazy at times, feel like it makes me too focused on the whole thing.

I am beginning to think if I could just ignore this whole issue for a while it might sort itself out-unfortunately there is another bit of me counting down days every cycle and trying to imagine something is happening that isn't.

Last day at work yesterday, so had leaving do in the pub last night. Was driving so perfect excuse not to drink. Got asked by someone (drunk) if I am going to have children. Replied that I didn't have time with a new job....hahaha, little does she know....has anyone else got a better answer when you are asked this?

Clure good luck for the appointment next week, Fairy how are you feeling about IVF? Hope it's what you wanted, glad the consultant took you seriously and it sounds like he listened to you, which is a start.
Hi Geez, Pink, Stac, jobo and Popsy and anyone else I missed,
Sorry for the long post!

I wish I had the scans just so I knew what was happening. Someone I know was on Clomid and had the scans, on her first cycle they didn't scan but on her second cycle they scanned her and she got pregnant. I've got to have bloods done on day 21 for the next 3 cycles, not sure why as they aren't actually going to tell me the results until I go back in May and then were going to talk about IVF or other options.
xxxx

popsy1 · 14/01/2010 20:59

They told me that the results need to be above 30 if you have ov'd. Mine were only 26 this time. Im not really sure how it works or what my levels are before ovulation. Questions i must ask when i have to go for my scans.

xxxxxx

beckylou85 · 14/01/2010 20:51

Hi popsy, when I had my bloods done, they never told me anything other than I ovulated. What do you mean by 'over 30'?
Should they be over a certain number?
Good luck to all ttc xxx

popsy1 · 14/01/2010 20:44

I'm glad your appointment went well Fairy how are you feeling about starting IVF? Did they give you any idea of when you will be starting? Do you get a free attempt?

My bloods were done on cycle 2,3,5 & 6 on either 21 or 22 and although they weren't high they were over 30. However this month, Cycle 6 they follicle tracked me because of the addition of metformin. Had scans on cd 8 (no response) cd14 (13mm), cd17 (16mm), cd20 (24.3mm) and then a scan on cd22 and they said the follicle was collapsing so to o for bloods 7days later. The nurse said maybe they'd scanned too late. It's just so confusing. Ive got to go for scans again next month. Just feel its another month gone by with a failed attempt. Think your right fairy complete experts maybe we should all combine our expertise and write a book!!

Hi jo Yep my plate is rather full, my theory is to keep busy! I'm hoping it works! How are things with you?

I'm also full of cold, feeling really rough was hoping for a snow day this week so i could have a duvet day. Even one of the kids said today "you should be at home Miss" then added " i really do care!" how sweet, one of those heart warming moments
Love to all

Hi all,
Great news on the IVF Fairy
Does anyone have a Clearblue Fertility Monitor? If so, are they any good?
I've told DP that we got to get plenty of bedding in this month
Stac14 was you on Clomid? How long did it take you to get pregnant? Congrats!
Good luck to all ttc xxx
