Experiences of implantation bleeding or mid-luteal phase spotting please?

I am worrying myself silly. I know the only thing to do is wait and see but just wondered if others could share their experiences/ advice to help me get through these next few days.

FF says I ov'd on CD18 - I have a clear biphasic chart pattern. Am now 12DPO. On 7DPO I had a temp dip followed by a sharp rise. Sorry, the next part is a bit TMI. On 8DPO I had a spot of pink stained CM. On 9DPO in the evening I started very light red and brown spotting. This has continued until this morning, with some very tiny stringy brown clots. Every time I think AF is coming, it trails off. My temps are still high. I have very mild lower abdominal cramps intermittently as well.

Has anyone had implantation bleeding that lasted this long (today is the 5th day in total, 3rd day of continuous spotting) and matched this description? Or is it likely that something else is wrong?

I have been pregnant twice and both times I had implantation bleeding. First time so long ago I can't remember (except that in my naivety I mistook it for a light period), the most recent time it was red blood, but only for 1.5 days, with no cramps. I have never had mid-luteal phase spotting except when I was pregnant. But my cycle has taken 6 months to come back to normal after a mc in Jan, so I suppose anything is possible.

Any experiences or suggestions much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi guys am in the same situation due on Saturday but have been spotting ( brownish) for the last 7 days ! The waiting is driving me crazy - just wish that if I am not pg then I wish my period would hurry up and arrive ! Am trying really hard not to get my hopes up as we have been trying for 13 months ! Would be great to hear some good news out of this - keep me posted if you can !

Destiny you are so right. As soon as I saw the result on the Clearblue test I was so happy, and also surprised - I wasn't really expecting it to be positive. After all these years of trying NOT to get pg (and feeling relieve all of the times I was late, and seeing the negative response) it was so odd now that I want to be pg so much, to see that result pop up. Sorry to ramble on - I'm ADDICTED to threads like this on MN right now - spent all of yesterday on there, and most of today! Can't concentrate, and should really be working!!

The only foolproof way to tell is to temp. But you obviously hit the fertile window cause you got a BFP. It sounds like you are a little later on in your cycle than me. I guess the dr may be thinking that the first bleed you described was implantation but is not sure about this recent bleeding. The fact that it's dark may not be significant at all. I have read that only half of women who experience bleeding in early pg go on to miscarry so the dr should not have written you off like that and she could have been a bit more supportive. Although it's only since Tuesday, in my experience as soon as you get a BFP you get emotionally attached so no wonder you feel deflated. That's why I'm terrified of testing. Fingers crossed for you.

2ndDestiny - sorry, didn't see your other post. Yes, although it's only been since Tuesday night that I had the first positive test, it's like a whole new world of fertility jargon has popped up, and the waiting is awful!!!
I just looked at the MN ovulation calendar, and apparently my most fertile phase was 14-18th August - we last properly TTC'd on the 13th, so that would be about right.
The Clearblue test said I was 1-2 weeks pg.

tigerbear · 03/09/2009 13:30

2ndDestiny - no idea! I'm a total newbie to all of this - August was the first time we had properly TTC. How do I work it out?

2ndDestiny · 03/09/2009 13:24

tigerbear do you know how many days post-ov you are?

Londonlottie thanks. I'm trying to stay positive, but the bleeding seems to be a bit worse now - it wasn't earlier, so I was getting my hopes up again. It's very dark, not red (sorry if TMI!).

Hi tigerbear

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am trying very hard to resist testing, not sure how long I can hold out. But I agree with LondonLottie, I'm surprised your dr has dismissed this so quickly. If your BFP has got stronger that sounds like a good sign to me. I think it is a case of waiting to see whether the spotting stops or whether you start to bleed AF-like flow. The waiting is just brutal, isn't it? It's like time stands still. I really hope this works out for you. Do keep us posted, if you feel up to it.

Hi Destiny - I am having similar problems - had a normal period from 2nd August, then we were TTC, then I had odd bleeding about 9 days after the normal period for about 5 days - similar to you - not red, but brownish.
I then started to spot again 2 days ago - very light - and have had two positive pg tests - First Response one (which I didn't really believe as the line was so faint) then a Clearblue one yesterday, which def said I was pg!

However went to the doctor yesterday and she didn't seem to think I was pg- said it was probably a very early mc, or a chemical pg
So, my advice would to be not to do test yet - I wish I hadn't done mine now as feel totally deflated - don't know if I am pg or not, or if I've got AF.

2ndDestiny · 03/09/2009 12:46

Yeah I am definitely having trouble lasting that long! But I think it's pointless to test and get a BFN but then end up not really believing it and having to test again later... Or worse, I'm scared of getting a BFP followed by a big bleed. I'd rather just convince myself it's AF. I'm scared of everything really it's ridiculous, and I know that worrying myself sick is not good for ttc or pregnancy, I ought to know better...

Thanks IdealCamel

I am only 12DPO so I think it is too early to test. I guess I just have to wait and see if this turns into AF. But I never have luteal phase spotting so just wondered if anyone had implantation bleeding that lasted this long. If it disappears by the weekend I will test then.

Sorry, x post. If your cycles are usually 32-33 days, you could do a test? From what I've read, if you're actually pregnant and spotting dark blood, it's usually old and not a problem. Lots of bright red blood is more of an issue.

idealcamel · 03/09/2009 11:32

Same q's as Lottie, really! Are you far enough along in your LP to do a test?

I tend to spot at anything from 9dpo onwards, but for me it's definitely a warning that my period's on its way.

2ndDestiny · 03/09/2009 11:27

Thanks Lottie. Have never temped before so am not sure of my luteal phase length, but have always had regular cycles of roughly 32/33 days and from previous pg and this cycle I think I normally ov CD16/17/18 so that makes a good 14 days luteal phase. Never spot before AF for more than half a day before full red flow. Am just worried the fact that it is lasting so long means something is not right...
