I hear ya Pony I have hardly bought any new clothes for well over a year thinking "Ooh no point, I'll not fit in them for very much longer". As a result I have no clothes of any style merit anymore so have to wear my one maternity or my dressing gown most of the time. Caused havoc when choosing outfits for interviews....

Skihorse I absolutely know what you mean about the book (which incidentally arrived this morning). I have alaways been quite opposed to being clinical and planned about this. But I am very old, need all the help I can get, and now feel that one of the reasons it took so long to conceive DD is that I didn't really understand my cycle. I had weird 45 day cycles with a funny false period in the middle, and then roughly every second month I had a normal 30-ish day cycle. I never really knew when I was ovulating as I was so confused.

scorpette DH came round on the whizzy expensive pram by virtue of its engineering. I just let him assemble one I had brought home on appro. By the time he had put it together he was exclaiming 'I can't believe the quality of the bearing system in the rear wheels!' etc etc. 10 mins later he had taken it off round the farm for a test drive and that was it, he was sold.

extreme you're not alone. For years I kept buying tops and dresses of a certain flowy, empire line-type shape thinking, oo, when I am pregnant I can keep wearing this. Two years later when still not pg I had become a little tired of the look.

VeryAngryGusset · 02/09/2009 12:36

I'm highly superstitious about babies and will not be buying anythign until at least 15 weeks into preg. But hell, who am I trying to kid, it's never going to happen!

extremesitting · 02/09/2009 12:32

There's a good chance that'll be me Ski

Yet again... extreme has shared a bit TOO much...

extremesitting hahaha nutter! Although I must admit every time the sales are on I think I ought to stock up on baby-gros and the like - and I saw some gorgeous maternity stuff in one of the expensive places advertised on this site at 70% off. Tempting fate, moi?

I just daren't buy it in case I end up like some mad Miss Havisham type - sat there in the nursery wearing a maternity dress and staring at an empty cot aged 74.

Silver Cross..... the Rolls Royce of the pram world.....

I heart them, but I don't think one would fit in our house...

rainbowmum2be - shouldn't you be drinking herbal tea?

extremesitting · 02/09/2009 12:14

Scorp As we speak I am currently sat in a maternity dress from Top Shop It was in the sale, got it for a fiver and thought "well, might as well get it now, rather than pay 60 quid for it later". Turns out it hides my wine gut really well, so I sometimes wear it around the house. OMG, I've just realised how mental I sound.... Jumping the gun?!

I have also saved pictures of nursery's I like from Flickr and google images and I have chosen an American cot making company called Storkcraft for the cot.

My worst jumping of the gun happened in 2003, when I bought two little dresses for my future child whilst travelling India....

My mothers the worst at jumping the gun. She's been collecting high quality smock dresses and wool coats since the eighties for her future granchildren. OH finds it seriously worrying that she has made no provision for little boys...

I don't drink either, I hate coffee, but I do have two whole cups of tea a day for the caffeine kick! I have to have them without milk, though, cos I' allergic.

Don't tell anyone will ya? They'll think I'm soft.

rainbowmum2be · 02/09/2009 12:07

..... but scorp you don't drink either!

Scorpette · 02/09/2009 12:03

Rainbow - I hate coffee and tea. Living without caffeine is easy, honest!

Scorpette · 02/09/2009 12:02

ski - want those brownies even more now!

rainbowmum2be · 02/09/2009 11:59

Cosmosis I guess the boil could be worse -it could be on the end of your nose or something.

Scorp How do you get through the day without caffeine? Seriously?

I've just noticed a metallic taste in my mouth, though that could be because I haven't brushed my teeth yet [disgusted with myself emoticon]

Scorpette · 02/09/2009 11:59

Bessie - at the killer cot! Shall tell TYF. I always win him round, anyway. But if am updiffed, it'll certainly highlight the difference between our families' 'tudes: my family are soppy buggers who, money-wise, believe that 'nothing is too good for my loved ones' (I had a top-of-the-line Silver Cross pram... although my Granddad was head of the children's department in an upmarket department store, so discounts ahoy, but still) whilst his family are v rich but begrudge spending money on people (they don't even send birthday cards) and are very 'utilitarian' in their affections, etc. Hmmmph. He. Will. Learn. Think he doesn't like the idea of spending more ££ on a pram than he did on his ancient car Anyway, pram-buying is a long way in the future, so I shall bitchslap some sense into myself OW!

BTW, I'm a bad-tempered cowbag most of the time - how would I tell if it was a pg symptom? Hope you are updiffed

Ooooh, Rainbow, having a sympathetic pregnancy thang, do you think?

skihorse · 02/09/2009 11:51

Scorpette Well there's no sugar in them, just almond flour, egg, coconut fat, cocoa powder, walnuts, teaspoon peanut butter, sugar-free apple puree (for sweetness) and a few chunks of 70% pure chocolate. But you can't have any because of your caffeine thing you muppet.

I would happily buy second hand for the baby - or if I have to buy new IKEA. One of my colleagues spend 2000 (!) on a baby bed, wardrobe & chest of drawers. Mind you, she's the one who gave all her 3 cats to the shelter to be put down in case she caught cat-shit disease during her pregnancy.

Bessie123 · 02/09/2009 11:49

eewww, fanjo boil [shudder]

Scorpette · 02/09/2009 11:45

ski ME WANT BROWNIES!!! But I can't eat sugar. Can only have xylitol (and it gives me the squits) And am also allergic to caffeine.

(The irony of all this allergy horror is that I'm way fatter than I used to be when I could eat any old rubbish in the world. Truly, there is no God...)

PS If you want to cop a feel, just ask!

Cosmosis · 02/09/2009 11:45

She's bound to be rainbow. Are you feeling sick as well? That'll be her morning sickness.

I am returned with prescription for a week's worth of penicillin for the fanjo boil. I hope it does the trick. thankfully no lancing required just yet.

Bessie123 · 02/09/2009 11:45

yeah, we're clearly all updiffed. Scorp - it does sound like you might be. And I would never buy second hand stuff for newborn babies (except clothes etc). One woman where I grew up bought a second hand cot that was broken but the seller hadn't told her that (of course) and it collapsed in the night, killing her baby. That story made me extra cautious and neurotic about buying everything new just in case.

Oh, I have another updiff symptom: I am really irritable and I hate everyone. This definitely happened when I was updiffed before, I turned into a dragon lady.

So don't provoke me. You won't like me when i'm angry...

rainbowmum2be · 02/09/2009 11:37

I think I can top the 2WOOFL issues here....

I am currently wondering if MY symptoms are a sign that my mrs might be pregnant!!

So far I have sore boobs and I'm very tired. Do you think this may be a sign? Mrs rainbow is 8dpo.

Scorpette · 02/09/2009 11:29

TWOOFL away, extreme. The only thing you (we) have to lose is our dignity, sanity, etc.... We're here for you, girl

Hey, sexy lady, I will check your panties for you if you like! I... oh, eew, giant M&S bellywarmers? Forget it, you're on your own!

Seriously, good luck with the knicker-checking and roll-watch.

Hmmph, even though I feel sick, have womby-weirdness and breasts are a bit porno-sized and sore, I'm still worried it's just pre-R2D2 crap plus a dodgy tummy. As the little metal git's potential arrival draws ever closer, my TWOOFL-hysteria is turning into pessimism (my default seetting). The one thing that is doing my head in is me tits. I was having menstrual mastlagia pains (though a little diff from usual), which started at usual time it always does; 10-11 days before, and then as soon as I started feeling sick and having cramps - which would've been the exact time conception occured (PLEASE) - it totally went. Now boobs are almost normal, albeit a wee bit tender and bigger. But almost imperceptibly so. Now, my mastalgia carries on until at least D2 of RTOD, and I've never had it just disappear a week before RTOD is due. My theory (ahem) is that body was carrying on as normal, preparing self for R2D2, boobs were getting their pre-menstrual pain as normal, then I ovulated late and it 'took' and because body was now pg, the mastalgia stopped as there's going to be no R2D2. God, I hope this is the case.

Sorry for unloading TWOOFL there. Am going to buy a couple of POAS tests later for the weekend.

Incidentally, am grumpy with TYF. He caught me looking at prams online (jumping the gun? Moi?) and I was all 'ooooh, I like this icandy range' and he said it was ridiculous spending money on something that'd only be used for a few years and we should get something used and cheapo on eBay. Bloody men. Or... AIBU? (hehehehe)

PS I might be a non-drinker, but I've brought in a case of fine wines, for a mid-week pick-me-up for you all (and to tempt back the MIA BESHes )
