Any successful pregnancy with PCOS?

Hi all,

Am new here but have been following most of the threads for a couple of months now. It is great for all of you to belong to such a good network that has created a close bond.

Am 34.5 yrs diagnosed PCOS almost 20 years ago.Am told mine is mild and have normal weight (65kg) for my height. Naturally, been having very irregular periods that can go up to 3-4 mths. Been TTC for the past 3 years and unfortunately had 2 miscarriages.Been on almost all kinds of fertility treatments (Clomid, Metafolmin, Injectables) that regulates my AF but do not conceive. Mind you both times, I conceived naturally while on medical break. Currently, am not on any treatment, as we are considering IVF as our next step. Not gotten AF for almost 4 mths now.

Well ladies, I just need to hear from any other PCOSers' experiences to a successful pregnancy. Will really appreciate your info that might assist me and other women. Thankx a bunch!

Runtus, am glad to hear you also underwent the procedure and are recovering well. That is so great. It means we are on the same boat and might share our experience. Let's wish each other the best of luck.

For my case, the Dr prescribed me with Metformin, which i will take for 3 month and then he will evaluate my situation again, particularly considering follicle tracking. Was given a go-ahead to start TTC after my last checkup. Plan to start with my next cycle as it is I don't know where i stand in terms of CD. Do you which CD you are now after the OD?

We pray our cycles will fairly normalise now the OD is done. I wish you a good recovery and let's make a point of sharing as much information that will be helpful with our TTC.

Keysha, Glad to hear you are well and recovering from the op. I too have had mine done now, so was off all last week. Back at work today and reocvering well, just a bit sore around the stitches.

Spoke to the Dr after the op and he said it all went very well, no blockages or abnormalities and he managed to get rid of 4 cysts, so now it is just a case of wait and see I suppose.

Seems like we are all in the same boat eh? I have been told to start the Clomid again on the 2nd day of my next period, just to help things along a bit...did yours mention anything about that to you?

Hello,

Hope you are all well. I have been off line for a while now 1st, our connection went down so i could post a message on here.

Just to brief you. I had lapascopy ovarian drill on 9th July. It was a 2 hours procedure. All went well, unfortunately found one of my tube was damaged - could be an old infection i wasn't aware of. Due to the 3 abnominal incision(for the drill and tubes), i was down for a couple of days. I was given 7 days sick leave which was very necessary so as to completely recover. The stitches were removed on saturday. All look well.

I have resumed work today, though i have decided to take it easy this week so as to be sure am recovering well. Not started BDing either Am due for a check up with my dr this friday.

I'm very glad I went through it. Psychological, i feel so much lighter knowing that it was done and hoping for well structured cycles.

Runtus - I wish you the very best if you have not gone through this yet girl. If you have any sort of question, just let me know. Btw, i did start AF same night after the procedure that lasted for 6 days (am normally 4 days).

Meerkats - Girl, thank you so much for sharing your experience and advise on Ovarian Drill. I pray that all goes well, despite the 1 tube less -i have heard many have conceived sucessfully with one tube. Otherwise, how have you been ?

Good luck with the whole GI thing Keysah, just don't have the will power for that myself but well done you if you can stick to it!

The reason I mention the GI diet is not for losing weight purposes but because I read that it can help with conception - this was the result of some new research which was reported in the national press this week - so might be worth looking into even if you are already at a healthy weight - it can also be a way of eating rather than a way of dieting.

Hi Flobble!

It was only last week i downloaded a few ingredient of GI diet which i plan to start soon.Worth giving it a try, though with my height i shouldn't loose more than 3 kgs. Otherwise, i will be under weight. I would love to loose it around my tummy though -that is where it all goes.Used to be very flat in my early 20's.

Hello ladies!

I need some advice. Starting saturday, i got some kind of browny spotting just a bit for a pantyliner. This has been ongoing till yday slightly increased to something like an old blood (sorry abt this). This has never happened to me and don't know what to think of it. When am on AF, my 2nd day is normally a proper flow. I haven't had AF for almost 4.5 mths could that be the reason or signs of early menoupase? Crampy - yes but nowadays am almost crampy every other day for the past couple of months.

My next dr's appoinment was scheduled for next week. Gosh, PCOS is a nightmare.

Will appreciate your info or advice. Thanx.

Hi Awen, Welcome to the thread. We are learning alot about PCOS through other members who have gone through various treatments and experiences. It is worth seeing your doctor prior TTC so that you get a good guidance of your situation. I also conceived twice when off treatment and both ended in m/c. By then i wasn't very eqquiped with enough information in regard to conception with PCOS. Through research and this site, am now in a better situation. Good luck girl.

Runtus & Meerkats - for sure I will further inquire on my next appoinment with the Dr (prior the procedure). Will keep you updated.

Hi Keysha - diagnosed with PCOS when 22/23 - told would need treatment to get pg. Periods v erratic sometimes 6months+ between. Had happy accident and resulting in ds (he is a real blessing) . My wieght was good at the time about 8.5 to 9 st (5'3") although now it is nearer 11st so no idea if can again. periods still irreg - 3-4 month cgap, testorone is up and the od stray hair showing

I am 30 next month and hope to have at least one more child but think will deff need treatment.

Not certain what he means either; was not given any specific medication a day or so before surgery.

Would certainly enquire further.

He didn't mention anything to be taken before the op - but did say to take the Clomid again afterwards, to further increase the chances of oving..............

Might be worth ringing him to check the details and get your mind striaght before you go in

Morning Ladies!

My last visit with the consultant he mentioned something like he will prescribe tabs/injection to be taken a day prior to the procedure. Am not sure what he was talking about though. Runtus did urs mention anything? Meerkats any comment -is this common?

Yeah been off clomid for a while now, just come off metformin.

Dr said he will do the op and then get me to take the clomid again striaght after to increase my chances of OVing even more........all about the window of opportunity apparently!

ranuts - one of my bud's had this done and she took 4 days off afterwards. better to go back recovered than go back after a day and do more damage iycwim.

hope things pick up for u soon. I take it you're of the clomid now?

This thread is turning out to be really helpful, thanks for all the advice and info......great to hear the truth from someone that has already gone through it.

Just for info, my Dr said i would prob need 3/4 days off after the op but maybe thats just being overly cautious?! I guess it is just a case of seeing how you do and how you feel.

As you said - we will get there!

Meerkats, thanx alot for your prompt reply and all the information. They are very helpful espcially on what to expect of the drill. At least I can warn my boss before hand about a day or 2 off work.

Yes, people respond differently. We just have to pray for the best. I want to start making a habit of drinking grapefruit juice as i hear it is very helpful with CM -which i hadly notice the difference with my current cycles.

Will ask more questions as we progress and I will keep my updates on this thread.

Hi Keysha - I am very well, thank you for asking after me!.

Do you know how soon we can start TTC after the drill?
I was advised to have two days off work post op which I am glad I did. I had a lot of pains in my shoulders (this was due to the C02 gas which is used to give surgeon a better view of the abdomen). After this had worn off it was all systems go on the ttc front!!. Was not given any specific time frame.

I have read somewhere that CD1 starts on the day of the o'drill. Is that right? No.

Did your cycles regulate immediately after the drill? Well unbelieveably for me I had AF 28 days later.

How long it it take for you to a BFP?
Didn't get AF the month after that - became pg that month!.

Sorry for asking so many questions. No problem!.

You have given us so much courage and support esp in regard to o'drill. Thankx to you, we are now focusing ahead - I wish you both every success with this surgery. I have to say it is not a cure and not everyone does get pg as a result of such surgery but I do know of successes.

Runtus, imagine I was just thinking about you and whether you have seen your consultant yet. Am very pleased to hear of the proposed plan.

I feel the same way as you do. I prefer the drill be done prior to considering the IVF. My consultant also had mentioned about lap while in there. Luckly my medical benefit will comes for it.

Girl, it seems we are going to start a new cycle together in July and become cycle buddies. I will keep you in my prayers too! We shall make it girl. Will let you know my confirmed date.

Little update:

Saw the consultant again last night and have decided to go for the Lap and Di, with possible ovarian drilling if he thinks its necesarry when he gets 'in there'. Luckily it is covered buy my health insurance, so whould be able to get it done in July sometime...........

Really, really pleased as I don't want to jump straight to IVF and this way not only do we hopefully raise the chances of the cysts being dealt with, we also get to check everything else is in order too.

Good result all round I think!

hi, i have pco (but not the syndrome) my eggs just get stuck on the ovary if that makes any sence. i dont have periods.

i was told that id have alot of trouble concieving, but now have 2 ds's.

ds1 took 18 months to concieve, and ds2 14 months

Hi Keysha,

Please note this is only my experience of diathermy but the direct result of same is now 6 years of age.

My AF returned 28 days later after the operation but it did not arrive the month after (I became pregnant that month!).

I know of both successes and failures of treatment linked with diathermy. It can give a window of opportunity that was not there previously. I think I was an ideal candidate for such surgery at the time as my LH levels in comparison to my FSH levels were very high. Diathermy can help with lowering the amont of LH in the bloodstream.

My consultant came to see me after DS's birth and explained that I would need further surgery if I wanted to conceive again. I have not had any further surgery since that time.

I think you are most wise to think postitive and keep praying!. This worked for me too.

Runtus and your good self are in my thoughts and prayers.

Meerkats - Were your AF normalised after the procedure? How long did it take you to conceive after diathermy? If you have more than 1 child, did you have to do the same procedure again?
I don't want to be too optimistic expecting things to happens straight away. I understand it is individialistic. From now on, i want to keep telling myself to relax as much as possible and pray for the best.

Runtus, keep us posted too & Good luck!! You will be in my prayers too!
