Any successful pregnancy with PCOS?

Hi all,

Am new here but have been following most of the threads for a couple of months now. It is great for all of you to belong to such a good network that has created a close bond.

Am 34.5 yrs diagnosed PCOS almost 20 years ago.Am told mine is mild and have normal weight (65kg) for my height. Naturally, been having very irregular periods that can go up to 3-4 mths. Been TTC for the past 3 years and unfortunately had 2 miscarriages.Been on almost all kinds of fertility treatments (Clomid, Metafolmin, Injectables) that regulates my AF but do not conceive. Mind you both times, I conceived naturally while on medical break. Currently, am not on any treatment, as we are considering IVF as our next step. Not gotten AF for almost 4 mths now.

Well ladies, I just need to hear from any other PCOSers' experiences to a successful pregnancy. Will really appreciate your info that might assist me and other women. Thankx a bunch!

Hi all, hope you don't mind me writing on this thread. I had an appointment with a consultant at local hospital about my polycystic ovaries, I have had a scan and bloodtests and i have been prescribed 500mg of metformin, so much information to take in i never asked all the questions i wanted to. Will this drug make me ovulate? How long roughly will i have to wait for a period? Probably a stupid question but can we try to conceive now? I have been given some other medication to take to bring on a period called MEDROYPROGESTERONE. Which one do i take first this one or the metformin or both together? sorry for the confused message I am having no luck contacting the hospital to speak to someone.

Thanx for your message. I'm doing quite ok on CD 13 now and hoping that I will have a normal cycle this time. I have been thinking of you lately knowing that you should be about testing now. Where are you in the cycle? I really wish you the very best and hope that this is your month.

Last nite I dreamt a friend who is TTC for her 2nd is pg. Twice I have dreamt of someone being pg and it turns out true.I really hope she is, will be happy for her. I can't imagine the day I get those fantastic two lines and carry the pg to full term. God, I pray for us two!

Let me know how about you love. Hope the holiday did you good and feeling so much fresh.

hey keysha, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We were away last week so I've only just logged on. Sorry to hear about your short cycles, that must be so frustrating.........I always hate it when they say 'oh just wait another couple of cycles' like that's nothing at all. And all the time you are wanting to shout - no, sort it now!!!

Not heard of tamoxifen, what does that do?

Hi ladies

Runtus - How is it going with you? Hope all is well and fingers crossed for you dear.

I got another short cycle of CD 18 . The last one lasted up to CD 15. The one just after ovarian drill was good went up to CD 26.Am still on metformin, and it looks like my hormones haven't normalised yet. Two weeks ago when I saw my consultant (about the short cycle) he told me to wait after two more cycles and if no pg, then he will prescribe tamoxifen or clomid to kick off my hormones. I feel so unpatient waiting for 1 more cycle to start the medicine. Am I stressing myself too much? Any one heard of the tamoxifen? Your advise will be appreciated!

I have pcos - i was ttc for 15 months and was diagnosed just before i found out i was pregnant. I didn't have any treatment and I hadn't had a period for 16 months.

Ahh would be fab if you could get a nice little 4th year present but I'm with you in telling myself that it won't happen now but it's not far off..........can't get our hopes up too soon.

We are going on holiday on Saturday so hoping we can forget all about it for a week and then come back refreshed and ready to go again next month.

Yday was our 3rd anniversary and I prayed that I have a wonderful beginning of the 4th year . I told myself it doesn't happen now but it is a great sign it will eventually.

This operation has been most amazing with these results. This support for each other is great! Let's continue with "every other day rule" and make sure we don't get too stressed! Good luck girl and keep me posted. Likewise.

Keysha - so glad to hear from you and to hear you had good news too. So it looks like we both had positive outcomes from the op eh? Good for us! About time we had some good news...........I was so excited by the little ov test result I haven't thrown it away yet, keeping it! Sad but true.

Nearly everyone I know says you generally don't feel when you are oving but I know I can, the only other time I have ov'd I could def feel my nipples were sore.............so I reckon I must be. Sounds like you did to.did you get to bd and make the most of it??

We are sticking to the every other day rule, to conserve 'resources'!

That is so wonderful that the op has shown some changes. We needed it girl and we will get there. Get down to BD and you know my wishes for you. Good luck girl!

As for me, i think i ov early 'cause i got the sore nipples on Saturday to Monday. Or could it be metformin effect? Btw, i have lost 3 kgs since July. But i think it was ovulation 'cause was a bit crampy on monday. I never got sore nipples mid cycle before except as an early pg sign with my 2 m/c.

Let's pray for a good outcome of this operation. We have been through so much!

Runtus, great , again our journeys are the similar. I'm on CD6 and let's hope we don't get short/lengthy cycles. Lots of wishes for successful ov and BD.

Lullabelle, many congratulations for your 2nd pg. It is so wonderful that you conceived naturally though you haven't had AF since DS1. That is fantastic, though am sorry to hear about your cyst. How far are you along with the pg? Have you seen a doctor yet and what did they prescribe for you? If not, please see one asap so that they get you checked out. Please let us know you progress.

Hey Keysha, Nice to hear from you. I am around cd7 at the moment so waiting to see if I ov this cycle. Just finished my clomid for this month and feel really sicky but hoping that is a sign of something happening.............

We just have to wait and see I guess.

Hi Runtus,Sorry, I missed your post. Yes, we will get there girl. Where are you now on your cycle? My hormones misbehaved, got another cycle midway. Very confusing, so am going to see my consultant this week. It means that am getting very short cycles. Gosh, i might need to be put on maybe clomid etc on top of the metformin. However, clomid normally dries up my CM completely. Therefore, am not a fan of it!

I just had my 1st cycle after the OD procedure early July!!! This is so amazing after having very long cycles of up to 5 months. I will definetly recommend the procedure to any PCOS who has been TTC for a long while. I'm praying for the best!

Keysah - it's a deal! I'll update you with any new info as I get it.

My dr basically said wait until your next cycle starts and then you will know where you are. I had my period whilst I had the op so it was a bit tricky to date when I would ov if I do this month. Good luck with the Metformin and stick with it. it is hard to do as it can make you unwell and you really don't feel like TTC if you know what i mean But stick with it!

Sparkly - as your friend has been diagnosed I am assuming she is under the treatment of a dr. In that case I would expect him to start with a course of clomid and see how that goes....along with possibly a insulin resistance blood test to see if she has and blood sugar complications. After that it really is down to her individual case and the practise she attends but there is a lot available on the NHS. What has the GP suggested is the next course of action?

My friend has just found out she has PCOS after nearly 3 years of trying for a baby. She had a son 4 years ago, but he died at 5 months, would she get treatment on the NHS and what is avaible to her??
