Anyone out there who's recently MCd and back to TTC without waiting?

helpet · 23/07/2009 22:44

Hey everyone. I have a DS (18 months) and had first MC last week at only 5 and a half weeks. Have wondered whether to wait for AF but after obsessively reading most threads on the subject in MN - have decided to take the plunge and TTC just as soon as I can ... Anyone in a similar boat wanting to join this thread and spread the baby-dust? xxxx PS Am terrified it won't happen for months / it will happen and I'll be a compulsive knicker-checker

applesaretheonlyfruit · 29/08/2009 18:40

Yes, let's move over. It will be easier than posting on two threads..

Cheepz · 29/08/2009 16:42

its up to page 30 and half of the posters here are there as well - how do we make sure noone is left behind

dont think it matters whether you have had af or not its just a post mc ttc thread thats been going on for abit longer..

shall we? (will save me posting my grumples twice on two different threads at least so i am all for it

chamoiscreased · 29/08/2009 14:30

Meita - I have not got the foggiest idea whether or not I have ov'ed at all, either pre or post bfn. Not very helpful, sorry! I have never been aware of when I ov as no signs I can pick up on and don't really want to get into temping at the moment. My body's up to something at the moment but no idea what
I did take agnus castus for a couple of weeks before I got pg. Not sure that the two things are related though!
I had assumed I'd need a BFN before ovulating but could well be wrong.

MCA Yup my name is pinched from an Elbow song. Describes my face perfectly!
I was nearly 12 weeks by the time I miscarried and the EPAU did warn me it could easily be a month before I got a BFN. Doesn't make it any less frustrating though!

So are we all migrating to the other thread then? If so I should probably stop waffling on over here

MintChocAddict · 29/08/2009 01:09

Hi everyone,

Hiya Chamois - Long time no speak! Good to catch up with you again
Good to hear from someone else who had a delayed -ve result post miscarriage (but really sorry that you had a frustrating wait too) Gives me hope though that some day soon I will get a -ve and ovulate again and be able to flippin' get on with TTC.
Chamois - I was listening to Elbow the other day and heard your name!! Take it that's where it comes from? I saw them live last year and they were fabby!

Glad Meita asked about delayed ovulation. I was also wondering if ovulation could possibly happen prior to getting a -ve after miscarriage?? I can't imagine that it would but then I failed biology twice, so hopefully someone else will answer that one.

I don't know abou herbal conception support Meita. I think that's sometimes the problem with all things TTC - so much conflicting advice - hard to know what to do for the best.

Thanks for other link Cheepz Hopefully I'll be joining everyone on the list with my stats soon.

TFLS Glad to hear you had a break
I phoned GP today and also EPAU for advice. Another +ve test this morning, sore boobs and heartburn all day and nothing to show for it. EPAU reckon it can take upto a month+ for -ve result. Will be 4 weeks on Monday. Think because I was nearly 12 weeks by the time ERPC was done hormones would have been pretty high but she reckoned if still +ve result in a week or so would need further investigation in case anything still remaining.

Anyway on a lighter note hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I'll raise a wee glass (or nine ) for us all when I'm out tomorrow.

Blimey - that was a long post. Obviously making up for my lack of posts over the last couple of weeks!

Meita · 28/08/2009 22:28

thanks TFLS. I can identify with your rebellion much needed break.

Indeed I've heard that ear thermometers are no good for charting. I'm using a fairly cheap digital thermometer, orally - they say vaginally would be better but I can't be bothered. Before I bought this one I collected some info - MyNFP.de (my place of reference for most such things) says that if your thermometer is digital, it is very important that it has two decimals. In your chart you can round up or down (36.77 would be 36.75, 36.78 would be 36.80) but if you have only one decimal it is not precise enough.
Also, I always wait 5 minutes before reading the result, rather than stopping at the peep. I've found this gives me much steadier lines, less of an alpine panorama, IYSWIM. This is also recommended by MyNFP.de.
At the pharmacy, when I asked for a thermometer with two decimals, they also offered me an analogue one which was devised specially for charting basal temps for conception/contraception. It was about 3 times the price, so I was glad I had done my reading first and was confident in buying the cheaper version!

chamois as your bfn was only after 3 weeks, is your ovulation delayed as well (if you don't mind me asking)? Or did you maybe even ovulate before you achieved the bfn? How are things going now?

I brought some herbal teas home with me. Started off with raspberry leaf infusion today. It's supposed to help in the pre-ovulation phase. Later I'll switch to Lady's mantle which assists the LH-phase and supposedly is also used for preventing MCs (also good for assisting ovulation, I read). Though info is conflicting and confusing... and I'm worried: Given that my cycles basically do work and I can conceive, as proven before I MCed, maybe I'll just make things worse by drinking these infusions? But on the other side, it feels like at least I'm doing something... instead of just waiting... which feels good. Ah well. I'll just go easy on the herbs.

Do any of you have experience with herbal conception support? Such as agnus castus which is often used to help regulate (especially short) cycles and reduce PMS; herb robert (Geranium robertianum) which is generally supposed to be good with fertility problems; sage, rosemary, nettles, and the lot?

Cheepz · 28/08/2009 22:17

it worst - jsut tested it - hurrah

Cheepz · 28/08/2009 22:16

I have been posting on both and hadn't thought about ot posting on this one now AF has arrived either. To be honest for me its about getting all the support I can!

If we were going to try and move it all to one thread should probably be the other one which has the list and I think more regulars ... also has its own grad thread to go to - although helpet and monkeys have been sucessfully redirected from here.

I see both as places where there are women post mc ttc - whether af has been or not, just my thoughts

for thos on this thread wondering about the other one its here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/748650-Just-MC-39-d-Starting-it-all-again-Come-and (hope i got that right - haven't done a link before!)

chamoiscreased · 28/08/2009 13:09

Glad to have you back Meita and hurray on the AF at last!
MCA wondered where you'd got to. I only recently got BFN at 3 weeks and 2 days post mc and it seemed like I was waiting forever. Fingers crossed it will happen for you soon.
TFLS had to laugh at your idea of rebellion! Hope you and the clearblue can come to some agreement before you and your DH collapse from exhaustion!
Cheepz good luck with the trying in earnest.

thefatladyscreams · 28/08/2009 12:22

Welcome back meita. You were missed and it was lovely to have you pop in during your holidays .

I hadn't thought about the thread like that. I'm easy either way. Us post AF'ers could continue posting here or we could all migrate to just the one thread??

As long as we don't lose anyone.

Quick question for you - do you use a basal thermometer to temp? At the moment I'm using an ear one but heard that they're not ideal.

Glad you haven't got the post holidays blues - I always do.

Meita · 28/08/2009 10:38

Hellooooo! I'm back!

Not that my absence was very much felt - I find it hard staying away from here even when away. If that makes any sense at all.

Though I'm wondering... as AF has finally caught up with me, should I maybe migrate to the other MC thread? As this one is meant more for people who haven't had first AF since MC? What does everybody think?

I hope you are all doing well. I am - I'm enjoying being back home.

thefatladyscreams · 27/08/2009 22:21

mintchoc - you have every right to feel sorry for yourself. It must feel like you turn round one corner and there's another corner smack in front of you....

But I'm sure you will get your -ve soon and join us in the madness that is TTC again.

Sounds like you are stuck in a real limbo at the moment. Sending you a gust of wind to push it on a bit (and I will be nagging about that doctor's appointment - you have been warned! )

DH and I finally had a night off last night - our little form of rebellion. It shows your age when not having sex constitutes an act of rebellion!

MintChocAddict · 26/08/2009 22:36

Hey TFLS

Great to hear from you again! Been 'lurky' in the extreme of late. Just didn't feel like posting as have been feeling a bit sorry for myself. (understatement of the year)

Anyhoo, the lovely ladies on here have cheered me up, so have decided to give myself a good boot up my ample backside and stop wallowing in self pity. Guess I've just got to accept that my body will do its thing when it's ready. Haven't been to the doc but will make an appt if still +ve and bleeding by next week.

Hope you get some answers with ovulation soon. So hard to be patient. Fingers crossed that you'll get your result very soon.

thefatladyscreams · 26/08/2009 22:20

MintChoc lovely to see you (and glad to hear you've been lurking). Oh what a nightmare. Can't believe you're still going through all that. What does your doctor say? No wonder you're feeling sorry for yourself. No slaps at all - just a big hug. Keep posting. Hopefully your -ve will be along soon.

Thanks meita. I've had a quick google and seen quite a few reports where people don't get Peaks in their first month. I'm just paranoid as I don't think I ovulated last month. Need to learn to be more patient and over-analyise less

helpet you keep off those m/c threads too!!

MintChocAddict · 26/08/2009 22:18

Awww. Thank you both so much for your words of encouragement. Really glad I've come back now!

Thanks for your offer of chocolate Meita. . As you can probably tell from my nickname my cupboards are always fully stocked. I'm going out on Saturday and planning to get really drunk, have a boogie and hopefully start next week with a big hangover, feeling positive and maybe even a BFN!

Glad things are settling down for you both on the AF front and good luck for the month ahead.

Thanks again for your help and support.

Feeling much better already.

Meita · 26/08/2009 22:04

I'll give you a big instead, mintchoc! That's so disheartening. I totally agree with you that waiting without being able to do anything and not knowing how much longer, is quite awful! If ever you were "allowed" to feel sorry for yourself, then now. Is there anything that you could do for yourself to pamper yourself a bit? Have your DH invite you out for dinner? Splash out on a new pair of shoes? Get a box full of books from the library and lock yourself in your room for a week? Want me to bring some Swiss chocolates home and post them to you?

For me, the day my MC was confirmed, I got a shot to avoid my body creading Anti-D antibodies, as my blood group is 0 negative. At the time I was very numb, but later it did feel like in a way, I was already doing something for my next little bean. That was a bit early - I was not ready, I still needed to grieve the lost bean. And yet, in your situation, it must be so much worse - you're ready to let go and look forward, but your body won't let you . I do hope it will all sort itself out soon! Best of luck to you.

Cheepz · 26/08/2009 21:56

MCAyou are right to feel right sorry for yourself thats a 'bunch or arse' as my brother would say. Waiting for stuff to progress is crapola and it is a constant reminder of what has happened.

Don't lurk - share the downers - we all do and it makes the good news really good!

MintChocAddict · 26/08/2009 21:43

Hello All,

Is it OK if I check in again?

I've not been posting but have been doing some serious lurking for the past couple of weeks to try to keep up to date with how everyone is getting on.
Loads of congrats to the BFPs - hooray - and fingers crossed for the TTCs!

I'm desperate to join you all in NOT waiting to start TTC but unfortunately 3 weeks and 3 days on from ERPC I'm still testing bloody postitive, so remain in TTC limbo. Arggghhh! Never thought I'd be so desperate for a -ve!!
To add to it all, I have started bleeding again today after thinking it had stopped about 10 days ago. Please come and tell me it'll go away soon!

I'm feeling right sorry for myself today. Someone give me a slap.

helpet · 26/08/2009 17:57

Hi everyone.

So glad AF finally arrived for you Meita that should help with the 'work' ahead! Well done for surviving thesis crunch time - I've lived through a couple of theses (not mine ) and it's an intense time. I hope you get a BIG dedication in it! I reckon the weight off your combined shoulders means the arrival of happy baby dust!

Monkeys - what's wrong with us??? I spent ALL last night reading mc stories on MN ... why oh why do we do it? Come join us on "Totally's GRADS...lets handhold thru this....". I felt like a gatecrasher at first but Cheepz is right they're all lovely and in the same boat.

tfls yup I'm travelling back tomorrow, but have some work to do before that...

I think I remember that I read somewhere (I hope you're getting that this isn't very reliable information ) that on your first CB monitor cycle it will give you lots of highs, that this is perfectly normal, and that you should simply keep BDing until you get a peak... or perhaps I read that in the first monitoring cycle you often don't get a peak at all but not to worry... um, I suppose this half-remembered stuff is not very useful to you, I'm just trying to say, don't worry too much!

monkey I echo TFLS on the staying away from the MC stories. Do what's good for you, not what gets you down!

thefatladyscreams · 26/08/2009 14:59

Yipppeeee an AF for meita at last! Just in time for your return trip if I remember correctly or are you already back? Thanks for the temping info. I've had no surge yet - but the Clearblue monitor has shown high for the past 11 days with no sign of a Peak reading..... so DH and I resemble a pair of rather knackered rabbits at the moment . Not sure if I could still get high readings on the monitor and not ovulate this cycle (starting to worry that this month might be in vain) but I guess I need to keep tracking my temp to be sure. Not really in any position to complain to you about impatience when I'm only on day 17 after your epic wait!

cheepz - you've been warned! This is what lies ahead if you abandon your carefree approach

Monkeys - I did chortle at your "glut to famine in one fell swoop" comment. Poor DH! I'd echo cheepz's comment about the lovely ladies on totally's grads. But KEEP AWAY from the m/c stories - the ONLY thing that will come out of reading them is stress for you. Not good. Stay on our thread and enjoy yourself laughing at all our exhausted love lives!

Meita · 26/08/2009 14:26

monkey yes, AF has arrived this morning, finally! I am much relieved. Though feeling sick and nauseous - usually that stops as soon as bleeding starts - but seems to be sticking around a bit this time. Hmpf.

(Sending all those nauseous feelings your way.)

Yes, well I'm sort of my DP's writing coach so I was very involved in the whole business. I'm glad it's over as it did mean working until midnight nearly every day and not much time nor energy left over for anything else - including the BD bit.
Now his is done, next for mine! I was hoping to have a LO some 6 months before submitting so that by the time I'm looking for a job I'd be out of the worst of it - but it isn't looking that way anymore. Well, I'll take what I get!

Cheepz · 26/08/2009 13:38

tfls i am conserving energy for now as the bonking starts in earnest in about a weeks time!

feeling fie today as although my first 2 days AF are really heavy since ds was born the rest is quite mild and its over quite quickly. Seem to have gone from CD1 to CD3 quite quickly and am hoping that by the time I am CD7 will have more to focus on with actively trying again this month, rather than the random passive approach we took in the period post mc to first AF

monkey there is a thread that was started by some of the gals on antoher thread I am on for recent grads (post mc pregnancies) - helpet is there too so you might want to find it - think it is called totallys grads and is in the conception section. lots of support and lovely ladies

monkeymayhem · 26/08/2009 12:49

meita it's good to hear from you. sounds like you've been having a lovely time in switzerland. still no sign of AF?? congratulations to your DP on completing his thesis. a couple of friends have PhDs and they just seem to take over your life completely, especially that final few months before submitting it. was it in something you're interested in? if not i think it would be even harder to be tolerant of all the work that needs to go into it!!

tfls i really hope your busy week paid off and it's good you and DH can laugh about it. cheepz sorry it didn't happen this month but maybe next month? in some ways i think DH woould rather it hadn't happened so quick because he's allowed nowhere near me at moment!! from glut to famine in one fell swoop, it's a tough life for him!!

BLP i often think the way hospitals arrange waiting rooms etc can be quite insensitive. at bedford everyone waiting for scans waits in same area, so that's people mc, 12 weeks, 20 weeks, the whole shebang!! to be honest that sort of thing doesn't really get to me but thanks for warning me. one thing that has put me off the rosie though is my dad was in the treatment centre next door earlier this year so it has stressful associations for me from that respect.

apples how are things going with you? i hope you're ok?

i have decided i must not look at any more mc stories on mn because it's just making me more stressed! yesterday i decided i hadn't been feeling nauseous enough so had to do another test just to make sure. this is going to bankrupt me! all good thankfully. will go back to GP next week to do booking forms then hopefully will be able to speak to midwife and see if i can get early scan. anyway best go because supposed to be working at moment!!

take care all xx
