Hi All,

popsy ooh CD29??? Are you not desperate to test?

Becky hello... Some people go for scans to see if they are producing eggs that month. So they check the folicle/s (sp?)to see if they are getting big which means they will produce eggs. I don't have this done and didn't last time either. It just prepares you either with the knowledge that you will probably ovulate or not. I originally got told that anything over 10 meant you ovulated however over 30 means you have a chance of getting pregnant. When i was ttc my DD i had 2 months of 1.0 being my result then on my third month still at 50mg it jumped to 67 and wallah i got pregnant. Don't forget it's all down to timing as well.

beckylou85 · 13/12/2009 22:09

Hi all,

I've been on clomid for 2 months now, i've had all the tests done (blood test, HSG and scans) i'm just wondering about those of you who talk about scans for follicles. My doc has never done them and i'm not sure what it actually means. Also what level should progesterone be at when ovulating? I've had a 21 day blood test recently and all the doc told me was that the Clomid is working.
Good luck to all ttc!
xx

stac14 · 12/12/2009 23:15

Hey jojo

Get OH to get his skates on this could be a new year bfp!! I got my tubes checked in July and for some reason I got regular periods for 3 months in a row. Don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong and I started on metformin at the end of August so can't really pinpoint how it happened for me but think it was all the contributing factors.

popsy you will probably find you get a better response than I did. But it may be worth asking for the metformin if they suggest the expensive ivf hun (anything is worth a try)

How is everyone else? I'm just off to bed, put xmas tree up and I am shattered lol nite xxxx

Jojo1984b · 12/12/2009 16:37

Hey all,

Im on CD12 now, went for my scan yesterday and the good news is i have 3 follicles ready.

The bad news is if im not pg this month they want to check my tubes

I really just think its because we dont bd enough! So i told him at home and about the procedure and he has promised he will make more of an effort!

Hope everyone is ok, im off to make myself look ravishing

popsy1 · 11/12/2009 22:15

Completely agree. Unfortunately all hospital treatment comes down to postcodes!! App is on the 22nd so will just have to wait and see. Dont feel like you cant still come on here stac we enjoy your company and advise

Clairebear hope you don't mind me butting in as i see you addressed this to Stac. i can see your frustration, could you not carry on with clomid whilst your trying to loose some weight although i know my weight has increased whilst on it? As much as i don't want to stop clomid i'll be relieved when i dont have to suffer those bloody horrid side effects. It has made me feel like a demon at times

CD29 now !!

stac14 · 11/12/2009 14:38

clairebear IUI is more successful than metformin and clomid, I have lost 2 and a half stone since ttc so I think this may have been a very big contributing factor. I detested the clomid, it made me moody, weepy and depressed. You could maybe ask for the metformin to take it while you are preparing for IUI as one of its good points is it helps you loose weight lol.

pink thanks hun I will stay lol. I know what you mean with the clomid, in my case I didn't ovulate with the clomid so it didn't do its job for me but I know for lots of people it does work and works well. Another mumsnetter who was on here with me when I first started ttc is pg with twins so it defo works.

popsy when are you at the consultant?

not heard from some of you in a while, is xmas bogging you down? hope your well xx

Pinkali37 · 11/12/2009 10:13

Stac stay where you are! People may need your advice!

I think we should remember that if we do ovulate on clomid (then the clomid itself has actually worked) it's just the magice between the Sperm and egg hasn't taken place. Which can be down to timing or anything.

I'm on CD10 i think...

clairebear88 · 10/12/2009 21:07

hiya

stac - just a quick question - im wondering if i done the wrong thing as when I had my app 6 weeks ago they offered me 2 options

  1. another 6 months of clomid alongside metformin
2.IUI but I have to get from bmi 33 to 30 before they treat us. I had been on clomid for 5 months-5month break then 6 months. I was so sick of tablets that i chose to come off and try and lose weight and go for IUI once i lose 2 stone ( easier said than done) I am now wondering if I should have gone for option 1. i have no pcos i just cant seem to concieve. shit shit i wish i had chosen option 1, but im loving being of clomid

oh i dont know what i want anymore

stac14 · 09/12/2009 21:00

popsy the problem with the ttc thing is it's a postcode lottery, a girl I know was being offered all the help she needed and only lived in the next town to me. I felt the consultant pinned all his hopes on the clomid which wasnt fair on us. Ask if they can give you metformin to increase the chances hun it worked for me, without the clomid xxx

popsy1 · 09/12/2009 19:38

Hi stac I also have a DS so IVF will come with a large price tag!! They didnt discuss next steps at all with me at previous cons app. I have PCOS but conceived twice naturally (lost my baby boy at 19wks in Feb this year ) once 13 years ago and then tried to conceive DC2 in 2000 but was unsuccessful. Had 9 cycles of clomid, still nothing. We had very little support and i was so stressed out we decided to be thankful for the DS we had, which we are. Last year i passed out at work and discovered i was 6wks pg To say we were shocked was an understatement!! At 19wks i went into premature labour and he was too prem to survive .
Anyway, i wont go into all that I think they thought i'd catch with no probs I wish i had. I've ovulated 4 out of 5 months. Just haven't conceived.

Sorry for long post. Just not sure what they'll suggest next!

stac14 · 09/12/2009 19:04

Hey popsy I took clomid for 5 cycles and only ovulated once so when I saw my consultant he said I was one of the unlucky ones that clomid didnt work for. Due to the fact that I already have ds he said they couldnt offer me anymore fertility treatment on the NHS and my next step would have been IVF which would cost £3000 but if I wanted to donate my eggs to the egg sharing scheme I would be offered IVF at £700. It was too big a decision to make at the time so I asked to be prescribed metformin as they could be offered on the basis that it assists people with pcos rather than fertility. He agreed to allow me 6 months of metformin and clomid together. I started metformin 1500mg in august took a period in September but didn't take another one, tested in October got 3 bfns so they upped my metformin to 2750mg then got bfp on 20 november. (sorry for such a long post thought it was better to explain it all lol) For you there will be other options like different drugs eg Femera (less side effects than clomid) IUI's or IVF.

Went for scan today and I am 8 weeks 4 days, the heartbeat was going like a train. Just to take it easy for next 4 weeks and go back on 6th January for my 12 week scan. If theres anything you want to know about what happened to me when ttc please do not hesitate to ask me.

Welcome peelay I shouldnt still be here but have got to know the girls while I was ttc and finding it hard to bugger off elsewhere lol

Hows everyone else? As I say if you would rather I don't post anymore please tell me to beat it, I won't be offended xxx

Peelay · 09/12/2009 12:01

Thank you for the welcome, pink and popsy.

Pink serophene is the same as clomid as far as i know, just a different brand name.

So far no side effects and fingers crossed it stays that way. But have been on a lower dose before so will see what the next few days bring...x

popsy1 · 09/12/2009 11:30

Hi peelay and welcome. Everyone here is lovely so hopefully someone will be around to help you. I only have experience with clomid.

Good luck for tomorrow stac Let us know hun. Hope you don't mind me asking but why did you stop taking clomid? Did your cons recommend it? Just wondering as i have my cons app in 2 wks as they say the clomid should have worked by now!! Wondering what they'll say to do
I'm still off work but feeling alot better. Will be back to work tomoz!!

I suppose i am a little negative Pink but have felt all sorts of symptoms over the 5 months of taking clomid that i am scared to think too positive. My cycles have been 39, 31, 35 and 32 days.

I know what you mean though Pink i seem to shed a tear over everything at the moment. Its been a very difficult year. I really wont be sad to see this one go. ooh unless Santa gives me an extra special xmas pressie .

sorry for long post. Very bored at home under the poorly blanket xx

Pinkali37 · 09/12/2009 09:18

peelay hello and welcome! I presume the tablet you're talking about is the same or similar to clomid?

popsy why woudl you get early preiod pain? Do you normally? My pain normally starts after AF... i think you need to think positively! How long are your cycles normally?

My hot flushes got gradually worse and now are better. They were horrible, it must be exactly what it is like when your going through the menopause! So i'm on CD7 and waiting! Trying not to let it slip to DH when D day is so he can't think it is mechanical.

Hugs to everyone! i cried at a baby story of Sky last night.. how pathetic! x

Peelay · 09/12/2009 08:31

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this thread and my first post ever so please forgive any misused or totally wrong acronyms!

I am 38 years old and on my 3rd assisted cycle ttc. Had been ttc for six months before I asked for help. DS1 was conceived without help almost two years ago.

I've been taking Serophene (100mg) for all three cycles. On my 2nd cycle I was given an hcg injection to trigger me but still no luck.

This cycle (I'm on cd4) I've been advised to start taking the Serophene from cd5, have the hcg injection and then try IUI. Obviously this is a step up and I've got to admit I'm feeling very nervous about it.

I have only one friend who has been through this so I guess I'm looking for more advice, a little bit of reassurance and a reality check as I'm definitely caught up in my own ttc world. TIA x

stac14 · 08/12/2009 23:52

I am at my booking appointment tomorrow, should get my dating scan then too. You feeling any better from the sickness? ↲Hows everyone else? X

popsy1 · 08/12/2009 13:02

Thanks stac and Pink for replying. I am sure they are probably early period pains but will have to play the unbearable waiting game again!!! Now on CD 26

I have my doc appointment in 2 weeks so will see what they have to say as regards to next steps!!

I have the 'pleasure' of a day of day time tv today as off work with this sickness bug thats going around!!The joys of working with kids .

So glad you had a great time in Barcelona Pink. Although AF arrived. How are the hot flushes? I didn't get that symptom...thankfully. Got most others tho
Whens your next scan stac? Has it all sunk in yet?

xx

stac14 · 07/12/2009 10:55

Hi pink The scan went fine thanks but I am not as far on as I thought I am only 8 weeks, butI have my booking in appointment and dating scan on Wednesday this time I am looking forward to it.

popsy I have had pains from the middle of October but didnt find out I was pregnant till 20th November, I actually thought one of my cysts had burst.

tembie I always thought the CD21 bloods were a silly thing to do as pink says if your cycle isnt exactly 28 days its not really accurate, I know other women were offered scans which seemed to be a bit more sensible at least to see if your dose of is helping you. Have you seen a consultant yet?

clairebear I know it sounds cliche but when I stopped thinking about ttc (we were convinced it would never happen) is when I fell pregnant.

sevans how are you huni? been thinking of you a lot. hope your taking care of yourself xxx

Pinkali37 · 07/12/2009 09:05

Hello All,

Am back from Barcelona and had an amazing time, alas, AF started just as i got to the airport!!!!! Despite this, we had a lovely time away. Started 2nd cycle of clomid whilst away and boy are those hot flushes getting worse!

Popsy i also got pains in my ovaries around CD24 and thought could i be pregnant and this is what happened when i was pregnant but NOPE bit for me. Mine this month were quite bad too. Fingers crossed it could be a sign for you. Actually thinking about it, when i was pregnant it was more like a cramp but this month it was definite ovary pain so i suppose if it is cramping it could be implantation ??? oOh how exciting.

tembie i never understood the 21 day blood test because what happens if you don't have a perfect 28 day cycle? 21 days won't be right. All very strange but food for thought! I'm not having any tests done whilst on clomid this time because they are left over tablets and if i had the 21 day blood test and it showed i hadn't obvulated it would leave me unhappy for the rest of the month.

Clairebear well done! When we are ttc we all put our lives on hold which then makes us more tense and probably quite difficult to live with. The month i conceived last time was the month i decided to get on with my life!!!!! I really wish you luck and if nothing else a fantastic holiday!

Stac14 how did your scan go? really hoping everything is ok. x

popsy1 · 06/12/2009 12:10

tembie6699 · 05/12/2009 21:53

sevans sorry to hear about your news ....virtual hug to you and stac14 good luck ... i had my bloods taken last week Wednesday but they called the day 21 bloods when i was only on day 8...mmmm am confused ..well we will have to wait and see when they come back next week .........baby dust to you all xxxxxx

popsy1 · 04/12/2009 22:23

Fingers are firmly crossed jojo although not convinced this is 'my' month. This is our 5th cycle so not too hopeful!
I have an appointment at my fertility clinic in alittle over 2 wks. Dont really know what they will say are our next steps. Anyone offer any thoughts or have had a similiar experience??I'm ovulating, apparently, just not conceiving. I have a 13yr old DS and didnt manage to conceive again until last year (we had given up) unfortunately i lost my baby at 19wks , so i know i can conceive.
Anyway enough waffle from me.

jojo i dont envy you being outside this time of year. I dont like winter, im a summer girl . We have loads of kids and staff off school with this bug thats going around! Hope yr not getting that.

xxx

Jojo1984b · 04/12/2009 20:56

popsy1 · 04/12/2009 16:02

Got my 21 day blood results and they are 38.1. Its lower than previous months but the nurse said not to worry, over 30 means i ovulated. Just the wait now then

popsy1 · 03/12/2009 15:45
