stac, I highly doubt that my consultant will want to give me anything that I want. She's a bitch not a very generous or nice person However, I'll give it a go.

How are you doing? Just waiting until your appointment? x x x

Hey clwc Are you going to ask cons for met? Mine didnt want to try any other drugs except clomid at the start but its different all over the uk lol. You must be glad to know theres no infections or anything chick, you may just be suffering a long bleed due to pcos, hope it stops soon

Hi claire when do you leave for Cardiff? bet you and dp are looking forward to a wee break

Hi lauren I'm good thanks just realised my scan is 2 weeks tomorrow so I am a bit nervous but trying to be positive. Hope af doesnt come, what you been up to?

Hi to everyone else, how are you all? xxx

Clwc · 22/07/2009 09:36

CD 25 now. Still bleeding. Had results back. No infection (ie Chlamydia), just a bit of thrush. I don't believe thrush does this to women, so I might try to get down to the GP again on Friday.

It's a week Friday that I go back to see the gynae. Hopefully, I'll be put on Met and perhaps Clomid (with proper monitoring this time).

[waves] at Claire in Cardiff. I wonder if she'll be able to see me from there x x x

claire001 · 20/07/2009 19:02

Hi Ttcvee

Welcome, Dont be nervous about starting clomid you will be fine, I am on my 5th month and it has just become apart of my life, Its normal now,

You will start on 50mg and they will most likely scan you around day 15ish and you will probably have day 21 bloods done aswell but everyone is different but thats what happens to me, If you do get scaned on your first month and you have ovulated they probably wont scan you the next month ( Thats if you dont fall pregnant) but if you havent ovulated they might keep you on the same dose and see how you get on, It can sometimes take a couple of months for your body to start reacting to the clomid, If you still dont ovulate after a couple of months they will increase your dose (im on 200mg) You may suffer some side effects ( Headaches, Sickness, Tiredness, feeling a bit misrable) Everyone on here gets some of those but its very rare to get them all,

Like yourself not many people no my partner and i are ttc so it can be very hard sometimes but we are always here for you when you feel like a moan, Remember we are or have been through the same thing. XX

stac14 · 20/07/2009 19:01

Hi jen
They scan on cd 10 to see if you have ripe folicles which hopefully you will this in turn should mean you will ovulate, I didnt get scanned but got bloods done on cd21 to tell me if I had ov'd

Hiya ttcvee its a nightmare when you odnt know whats going on. We have been ttc since last April but when I stopped the pill I never took any periods, this was very strange for me as I have never missed except when I had DS (who is now 10) this made the doc check my bloods and he sent me for an internal scan, this proved I had polycystic ovary syndrome and I was given clomid. Try not to worry when taking it I had mood swings and hot flushes unfortunately for me I only ov'd once on it so I am now going for an echovist scan, kind of like the xray you got. Some clinics dont offer monitoring depending on circumstances and post code I got bloods done on cd 21. 28 and 35. Hope this helps a bit

Hey clwc, Claire hopeful and lauren how are you all? Any news? Hope your all well xxx

ttcvee · 20/07/2009 15:01

Hi Folks

I'm a newbie and found this forum the other day - I have so many questions......... and thought after reading some of the posts on here you guys sound more knowledgeable than my GP etc!

I'm 35 (36 in Sept) and have been TTC for 2yrs now. Own GP did 21 day progesterone day test and said it was fine but would refer me to infertility clinic. So went there, they said the reading was only 27 and asked me to get another test done as it should be 30 Then on Thur past they had me in for the xray with the dye thru my tubes - it was absolutely agony - I screamed with the pain. But was told my tubes are fine but the doc says I am definitely not ovulating, this time the 21-day test came back with 25 as a result :-( So in 2 weeks time I have another appt to see Infertility Nurse and she is going to give me Clomid - they weren't very keen to give me it though as I am in the "obese" category, although I have lost 7lbs in the last 2 weeks - so they relented since I am trying. They are also going to refer me for IVF but that could take another 2 years!
My partner's sperm count came back fine - apparently he has 565million fast swimmers so it's all down to me not ovulating!! Quite strange though really considering I have get pain mid cycle every month and my GP told me years ago that was just ovulation pain. However, can't tell you how much we wasted on the Ovul sticks and never got a positive reading.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Is there anything you think I should be doing to help? Am nervous about taking Clomid - do they monitor/scan everyone or does it depend on you health board? Sorry for the massive post, it's just getting me down - found out yesterday my little cousin gave birth to a beautiful wee girl and my sisterinlaw is due in 6 weeks time. No-one even knows we are trying, never mind having problems so I have no-one other than partner to talk to about it.

JENCG · 20/07/2009 12:28

CLWC

Yeah its defo a learning experience, my scan has been put back until monday of next week now, what do they do on them? Is it just to check that you are actually ovulating? Its really wierd every time I take the Clomid tablets I think that I will get pregnant! I need to get that thought out of my head haha!! Have a good day everyone.

Jen x x

Clwc · 17/07/2009 20:51

PS Jen, I've been surfing reading a lot. That's all. You'll probably know more than me one day soon. It's nice to be able to bring people out of the dark though, as many others have done for me.

Hello all,

Welcome millymolly That's fab news about your twins! I'd love to have twins. Perhaps I'm a glutton for punishment! Lol.

stac I want to get on to the PgDip OT course in Cardiff. I won't be able to start until January 2011, but it's only for 2 years (f/t). I'll get some experience and some relevant quals in the meantime. I can't wait to get started!

Anyway, back on track... I went to see my GP today. Ovulation type pains have started with my CD 20 bleeding. PT was -ve. Have to wait for results of swabs. GP said it could be infection, although I don't have a fever, etc. Or it could just be PCOS-related. I have a feeling it's either PCOS/Clomid symptoms or fibroids/polyps/cervical cysts. Great fun

Hi Stac,

Yeah your defo right, I have found out more off you lot than anybody else its great! I try not to get disheartened but sometimes just think the worst! I need to be more positive haha! I'd be so happy if I was ovulating when I get the scan next week at least I know the Clomid would be working. Hope you've all had a good day! its beltin' down with rain here x x

Hi Milly,

How lucky is that falling pregnant with twins on your second time, bet you were so happy, it gives me hope as well that the medication does actually work. Hope you have the same look this time! x

lauren hows things with you?

Anyone else I have missed hi!! xxx

JENCG · 16/07/2009 19:45

Hi Claire,

I'm 29 and in the RAF, which is a good thing because through the RAF they give you 3 chances at IVF for free before the age of 35 but I hope it doesn't come to that. I really expect not to be ovulating yet and I'm not gonna get my hopes up, I'm on 50mg at the mo and from what i've read it seems better to be on a lower dose for some strange reason!! x x x

Hi CLWC

Thanks for the info on met. you know so much more about the condition than I do, im glad I've found you lot, its really cool to talk to people in the same position as me thanks a lot for listening. x x x

claire001 · 16/07/2009 17:06

Hi Jen

I didnt ovulate the first 2 cycles so dont be suprised or dishartened if you dont its quite normal not to, If you dont then your consultant will put you on a higher dose, What are you on now, 50mg? how old are you if you dont mind me asking? XX

Clwc · 16/07/2009 12:27

Hello all,

I'm OK, Claire. Just a bit baffled by this incessant light period

Jen, Metformin is a drug prescribed to diabetics. It regulates blood sugar levels. Met is prescribed to ladies with PCOS because many of the symptoms of PCOS (acne, obesity, etc) are caused by a degree of insulin resistance. The 'diabetes fat' that gathers around your waist is something to keep an eye on, and could eventually lead to diabetes. Unfortunately, in the UK, Met isn't actually licensed for PCOS, which makes it slightly more difficult to get a prescription for it. The situation then harks back to the postcode lottery. Of course, you don't have to be overweight to be insulin resistant or diabetic, so convincing your doctor that you need Met can be tricky. Fasting bloods would probably be the first step. Met can also give uncomfortable side-effects, so if it is prescribed, your body would need to be slowly acclimatised over a number of weeks. I have also read that Met can increase the chances of conception with Clomid (don't quote me on that), and there are different views on continuing Met whilst pregnant. Some specialists believe it can reduce the chance of miscarriage because it keeps hCG levels raised. HTH.

How's stac today?

Hi Claire,

Its so nice to speak to people who are in the same position as I am, and I'm really sorry to hear you had a miscarriage I cant even begin to imagine how awful that must be especially after everything we have to go through to get pregnant in the first place. I really hope things work out for you. I have my first scan next thursday to see if im ovulating, im not hoping for much right now as its very early days, it will be good to see if i am or not though. Any more info you have would be greatly appreciated, when I went to the fertility nurse the first time she said I coudl skip Clomid and go straight to having a Laparoscopy to make my tubes are ok, but i decided to try Clomid first I'm on this for 6 months then go onto injections if Clomid doesn't work. I keep seeing stuff about Metformin do u know what this is as its never been mentioned to me? Hope things get better for u Claire and soon

JENNIFERCHRISTINAGALLEY · 15/07/2009 20:48

Hi STAC and CLWC i was diagnosed with PCOS in April of this year after trying for a year to get pregnant I was absolutely gutted!! I'm now on my 2nd month of Clomid and am getting my first scan next thursday to see if I'm ovulating or not!! This website is really refreshing because to be honest I'm feeling a bit down about it all at the mo and really cant see any light at the end of the tunnel! I suppose everyone feels like that at some point though, and plus its all still quite raw with me as I've only just found out I have PCOS. Sorry to be soo depressin think i'm just having an off week, I cant wait for the scan next thurs at least then ill know if im ovulating or not!

Clwc · 15/07/2009 20:16

Well done stac. I hope I have a successful interview for Uni next year. I've decided to become an Occupational Therapist

Welcome, Jennifer (Jenny?). I'm another PCOSer. I took 2 cycles but wasn't being monitored, so got a bit scared, what with all the side effects. I'm now on CD 18 and still have (menstrual) bleeding. I think the Clomid is to blame, but will find out on the 31st July. I'm not ill or in pain with it, so don't anyone worry!

Hi jennifer welcome to the thread, I also have pcos its a nightmare. How are you finding the clomid?

Hey lauren you dont always get ovulation pains, how long have you been on clomid altogether? I was on it 5 cycles but only ov'd once so I pressed the consultant due to the fact it obviously wasnt working which is why he has moved me onto the scan then new treatment. Maybe you should query if not preggers this month, but have fingers crossed you are hun

clwc I have had loads of interviews, or so it seems lol one was for college the rest was for jobs, but got the college/uni course so I am chuffed.

Hey claire hows things did the ov pains die down?

Hope your well hopefull
