A message to those naughty people who test too early and its negative then they fish test out of the bin the next day and its positive......

Yes I am one of those people. (Bad Thandeka!)

But this "positive" is a really obvious purple line not a faint one, and it is the right colour not a white evaporation line.

So my question is this:

If any of you have ever found yourself in same boat how many of you later went on to test properly positive or was it truly a false positive from reading it way too late!

(Am 32 days post an MMC so it may even be something annoying like residual HCG in system- although I was testing -ve from 14 days- but then I didn't fish those tests out of the bin)

You got your BFP by the sounds of it! Congratulations xx

MrsHappy · 26/05/2009 07:48

Thandeka - as you had a scan and negative tests in the middle I bet this isn't leftovers from your previous pregnancy.
Tentative congratulations from me .

Don't go checking that the cheapies are getting darker. If you happen to pee on one with a bit less dye on it it will throw you into a panic.

Thandeka · 26/05/2009 07:36

Thanks Jardins we can virtually hand hold if this plan works out. Guess who has tickets for Glasto this year for first ever year! Shit! (last time I miscarried it was immediatly after honeymoon in Thailand- so swore to self I would not be going anywhere next time- looks like we may have to try and claim on insurance- will be 7-8 weeks if we get that far and not sure I want to take the risk)

Way to go Thandeka!!! Keep us posted on the digital BFP front. I'm jumping the gun (not really) by saying CONGRATULATIONS to you. You'll be able to join us on the post MC pregnancy thread. I'm currently 5 weeks and already paranoid. And so it goes on.....

Thandeka · 26/05/2009 07:19

Oh my cracking out the advanced artillery (tesco HPT) before the big guns (CD digital)
and the line is there and pink - faint but flipping obvious- you don't have to squint to see it anymore! I am 12DPO period due today. Absolutely no sign it is on its way (no cramps etc.). My temp is still up.

BUT I didn't also do cheapie ebay comparison tests to see if the line was stronger than yesterdays (as some tests give stronger lines than others) so there is a slim possibility all this is actually residual HCG from the miscarriage 38days ago but this is unlikely right since my scan showed no retained tissue?

So will see what happens today and tommorrow and then crack out the big guns on Thursday for the definitive- as will be 14DPO then.

Nargh argh argh!

HI Thandeka

I am in same boat!

Af due tomorrow.... now got a drawer full of first reponses and CB digitals for HPT upgrade....

Unfortunately mine are always bfns until day af due so no faint line squinting for me yet.

PLanning on first reponse fmu tomorrow. Been frantically knicker checking for days tho

So far I have...sore boobs, weeing loads, lower back pain, nausea, high temp (still 36.9-37) and really dark wee (is that a symptom??)

Please let this be our month for BFPs (and 4th time lucky for a sticky one for me....) My fingers crossed for us both! x

Thandeka · 25/05/2009 16:52

erm okay deep breaths here. Erm the lines are there on the sticks I weed on this morning . They are so so so so so so so faint but I swear they are there. They are not quite developing in the time but they are there although DH is refusing to commit to whether he can see them so it may be my imagination! But they are there within an hour which is better than in 24hours. (and the other day I did get a faint faint faint one that actually developed in the time)

Last time I had the lines this faint the next day I wee-d on a tesco HPT and got an obvious line so that is the plans for tommorrows morning loo visit. Then CB digital for wednesdays wee. I like planning increasing my quality of HPT as time goes on- like an HPT upgrade

AF due tommorrow and NO cramps at all that I usually get when she is on her way (even last time I was pregnant I had cramps)- but i was very irritable and PMS'y yesterday so I just don't know. Bah!

both my pregnancies started like this

as in, fishing tests out of the bin and finding that there was a line!

jardins · 25/05/2009 15:38

Hi Thandeka, although I can give you no help over your poas dilemna (I've had no experience is this domain , I just wanted to know how were today and whether you had an update? I know you said your AF was due on Tuesday but I guess I'm as impatient to know your news as you must be! Good luck with the countdown to BFP!!

Disenchanted3 · 24/05/2009 16:06

Hiya,

Im just going to say with DS1 I did the test, looked at 3 mins, nothing... threw it in the bin,

took it out an hour later ... a line.

Went and got clearblue test ... +

Good luck for Wednesday!

PistachioLemon · 24/05/2009 11:16

Morning Thandeka - here's to a BFP on Wednesday for you.

P.S. Almost everyone tests early on the step away thread but we try to persuade each other not to...so come on down.

HappyBump · 24/05/2009 09:49

hi Thandeka!
Sounds very promising. The only way we convinced ourselves that our HPT was positive was by using a CB digital but owch! they are so expensive. We held up our boots one at so many angles I think we were seeing lines where ever we looked. We drove ourselves crazy. Sound like you are almost there yourself
Fingers crossed for Tuesday! xxx

Thandeka · 24/05/2009 09:37

One month I gave all my HPT's to DH to guard from me so I couldn't test too early. He went out and I found myself turning house upside down for them . So Divvy your only option is to get a bank safety deposit box for them! (I did read about one woman who kept them in the glove box of her car- that way she wouldn't be bothered to go and get them in her jamas in order to test FMU! I doubt that would stop me!)

I know I should live on the step away from the first response thread but I just don't have the willpower. sigh

Thanks Katster and good luck for you- how far are you now?

Hi Thandeka just wanted to say good luck for testing on Tues, and hoping AF stays away. I read about your MMC, so sad. Fingers crossed!! Also, with this pregnancy I had a very, very, squinty faint positive line 9DPO, then 10DPO nothing! Then 11 DPO faint but visible line, so there is hope. Also with 10miu internet cheapies...

Divvy · 24/05/2009 09:19

I am not testing early next month, no really im not!

Thandeka · 24/05/2009 08:53

ah well a little update about my POAS experiments:

The test I did yday (with the same brand test I got the evaporation line/false positive the day before)- nothing nada nada- even 24 hours later no line at all. So prob indiactes was more likely duff test initially.

Then I repeated a test with FMU (with the same brand test as I got faint faint faint positive in the timeframe (that later disapeared!) yesterday). This morning with FMU really really can't tell if there is a line there or not so going to take it as a not. So basically still in limbo til Tuesday night!

Will crack out the CB digital on Wednesday if AF hasn't arrived by then for the definitive answer- just don't want to waste it now as I know it is too early. My luteal phase is 12days and last time I got faint positives from 12 days but shadow squint possibly imagination lines from 10dpo!

Ho hum. In a way am a bit relieved it is looking more likely -ve than +ve at mo as it means I can forget about it until tues/wed. If it was the other way round I would be crapping it about possible CP etc- Oh the dangers of early testing. We all know its bad- I just wished I had the self control not too!

Hope its a clear BFP for you in the week!

PlumBumMum · 23/05/2009 20:29

No think she was just lucky, hopefully you'll be grand, fingers crossed I'll be checking this thread for that BFP

Thandeka · 23/05/2009 20:24

Oh and if I am pregnant I am knitting me a hermetically sealed bubble to live in for the next 9 months!

OP posts:
Thandeka · 23/05/2009 20:23

But if you can work out when you ovulate you add two weeks before ov and how ever many weeks post ov you are to work it out. If that makes sense! Did your SIL chart?

I have irregular ov so is useful for me to know when I ovulate. When I got pregnant last time I ovulated on day 24. Had I not known this docs could have panicked me for not being a week and a half further along than I should have been, IYSWIM.

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 23/05/2009 20:18

I was actually surprised when she told me as I had advised her to wait at least a month as then she would have a date to work from, but it worked out, so good luck for you

Thandeka · 23/05/2009 20:03

Aww thanks Plumbummum (brill name btw Plumbum is one of my fave words and always made me smile in chemistry!) and yay for your SIL.

Fingers firmly crossed. Even if AF does come at least it means my cycle is vaguely back to normal and fingers will be crossed for next month.

PlumBumMum · 23/05/2009 19:58

Thandeka my SIL had a mc last year and then this happened to her, shes due in 6 weeks hope you have the same luck

Thandeka · 23/05/2009 19:53

Thanks Anniemac- I possibly have had the faintest faintest positive within the timelimit too now but annoyingly it disappeared outside of the timelimit!! Haha now I dont know what to think. Will try and hold on for FMU on Monday or Tuesday.
