A message to those naughty people who test too early and its negative then they fish test out of the bin the next day and its positive......

Thandeka · 23/05/2009 13:34

Yes I am one of those people. (Bad Thandeka!)

But this "positive" is a really obvious purple line not a faint one, and it is the right colour not a white evaporation line.

So my question is this:

If any of you have ever found yourself in same boat how many of you later went on to test properly positive or was it truly a false positive from reading it way too late!

(Am 32 days post an MMC so it may even be something annoying like residual HCG in system- although I was testing -ve from 14 days- but then I didn't fish those tests out of the bin)

Good, try to keep positive

Thandeka · 28/05/2009 13:56

Haven't broken the big guy out yet. Think I may do it as a special treat on the weekend I am 5 and a half weeks. Then it may tell me HCG is going up okay. But then again I read it can be wrong and that would worry me!

Oh and what annoys me about CB conception indicator is the battery doesn't last long enough for you to treasure your test forever like I do with all my other wee sticks (as you do!) as it goes blank after a day!

Divvy · 28/05/2009 09:13

What did the big guy say?

PlumBumMum · 27/05/2009 14:19

YEY Thandeka, thats great news,
by the way not sure what the cheapy ones on e-bay are but DIVVY etc if you want a few in for lots of tests next month, I got cheapy ones from my chemist called 'am I?'
and theres another set in around same price range, can't remember what they're called, but my friend says these are the ones the chemist and the docs use when you go to them for a pregnancy test!

Thandeka · 27/05/2009 11:44

Hi IDS thanks but we are on positive tests in the timeline now-

Big guy may get cracked with FMU tommorrow.

OP posts:
Divvy · 27/05/2009 10:36

Crack open the big guy, then call your EPU, think you can self refer, not sure though.

IDS · 27/05/2009 10:29

Hi

I'm new to this forum.
This may be a case of so called evaporation line - once the test dried there appears a line where the positive line would be. That's why the manufacturers ask to disregard any results showing on the test after 10-15 minutes. Wait another day and test again.

Happybump don't worry I get it. It's all blimming statistics isn't it and whether you get to be one of the "lucky" ones. Some studies say a scan with heartbeat and your MC risks drop to 5% - so from that both of us were in the unlucky 5% (regardless of what week you were). So basically I figure the outcome is already pretty much decided in the ball of cells growing inside me- there is nothing I or anyone else can do to change it (well obviously not counting things like car accidents or whatever) so I am going to forget about the dumb assed statistics and just concentrate on relaxing and keeping the ball of cells growing and differentiating into something (when I say something I don't mean a kitten or a monkey- boy that would freak DH out- but also don't want to say what it will potentially grow into as not mentioning the B word at the mo.
Hence I always try and say embryo- as that isn't a B just a potential B. Nargh not making much sense today but is defo helping to blather on here!

oh dear, just re-read my message.. I didn't mean to frighten you about having a scan at 8 weeks. The majority of people go on to have healthy pregnancies, it's just the very very unlucky few who don't.

HappyBump · 27/05/2009 10:12

I understand all those emotions. It is nerve-wracking. I had a mmc too in March, I discovered it at the 13 week scan and I went on to mc naturally the same week. I had an early scan at 8 weeks which was a healthy strong heartbeat. The baby stopped growing at just over 9 weeks apparently, I think it was what you call a "slow mc" so the baby may not have actually stopped growing until much later but just was growing slowly IYSWIM.

I am going to ask my doctor about progesterone and baby aspirin when we go and see her. She said that we could talk about it once we see a heartbeat. She is very supportive and I trust her totally. Like you I also want a record if it isn't a positive outcome this is mc number 3 for me.

I think I have to remain in a positive frame of mind otherwise I will go crazy. Although we have decided not to mention this pregnancy to anyone until we have to.

Lots of virtual handholding over the next few weeks months. It will be fine (please!)

Thandeka · 27/05/2009 10:02

Because mine was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks and potentially I was carrying a dead embryo inside me for 4 weeks (had a viable pregnancy scan at 6.3 weeks saw heartbeat and everything) I think I need to have a reassurance scan at at least 8 weeks to check there is a heartbeat(no earlier- past experience tells me no point and like Jardins said my risk massively reduces- although once you see a heartbeat on a scan (as I did) your risk is also supposed to be reduced but not by so much at 6-7weeks) In a way I was "lucky" in that actually started to miscarry naturally at the 10 weeks- went to A and E and was told emby had died up to 4 weeks before- at least I didn't have to have a D&C but I suppose if it happens again and there is no heartbeat discovered in an early scan I suppose they may decide to do a D&C which I don't really don't want but then the thought of knowing you are carrying a dead emby round in you and waiting for natural miscarriage is too much to bear either.

Oh crap that was a really gloomy graphic post. Sorry!

Basically I too want an early scan and will have to self refer to my hospital asap if that is to be the case as past experience says they need at least 2 weeks notice! So I think will maybe self refer at 5 weeks and hopefully get a scan at 8-9 weeks. May phone my doctor today though (she's lovely) and just let her know so at least it is on my records- am thinking if I have an early MC this time I at least want the medical proffesionals to know so my records support investigations or whatever if neccessary. If that makes sense.

Blimey I am proper looking on the negative side today! Think it is because I was so badly burned from my positive frame of mind last pregnancy - I was convinced I wouldn't miscarry because "bad things don't happen to me". Ha!

HappyBump · 27/05/2009 09:38

Interesting that I am not the only one having the "when to see the doctor dilemma"...Last time when I mc'd made an appointment for around 8 weeks and got an early scan and saw the heartbeat, etc. (we live overseas so early scans etc. are normal).
I sent my doctor a message to ask when I should come in, she said that I should come in when I am just over 6 weeks. The thing is ... I am nervous as anything about making the appointment, but if I want to get an early scan etc. I will have to see her
Here's to the beginning continual worrying! oh joy!

jardins · 27/05/2009 09:21

Thandeka CONGRATULATIONS again! Personally I'm holding out until 8 - 10 weeks before my first doctor's appointment. I figure there's precious little he can do to go against nature if 'things' do not go according to plan. (There, I managed to not pronounce the dreaded word!) Furthermore since after 8 weeks of viable pregnancy the risk drops to 2% .... I figure I might get an appointment for around week 10 (fingers crossed, of course).

What are you gonna do?

Divvy · 27/05/2009 08:52

Those ebay cheapie sticks never give me dark line until around 7 weeks pregnant! I think they are really bad things to use now, and wont be using them next month!

As yours are getting darker (slowly) its a very good sign, as that is what they do more than any other test.

Maybe crack open the big guns, then go docs to arrange things

Congratulations again xx

Thandeka · 27/05/2009 08:38

Update from the wee sticks this morn. Both brands ebay cheapies now registering a faint but definite line (Tesco's HPT gave the best result- even tho one of the ebay cheapies is supposed to be ultra early!). Oh and started feeling nauseous this morn and am exhausted and would quite like to go back to bed- also good signs I'm thinking! (I was never sick last pregnancy but did feel nauseous so bizarrely I want to be sick this one - but may change my mind if I start!)

So this means HCG definitely rising so definitely not residual from MMC. I will be 4 weeks tommorrow so still so so so early but oddly am not worried about losing it before I get to 6/7 weeks, as that's when I lost it last time but didn't actually miscarry until 10 weeks and the egg sac continued growing giving me a bump.
Decided I will probably hold off doing the CB digital until next week sometime in the hope it will give me some inication that HCG is rising properly as my doc refuses to do blood tests to check HCG levels.

So next dilemma is when to tell doc and refer to hospital for early scan...

Cheers Jardins

Lots of handholding for us all methinks. Will post proper tommorrow but unfortunately I am still teaching from next week (after half term) and for 7 more weeks so basically up until 12 flipping weeks PG! Balls! But at least my 6th form and Y11 have gone so only my Thursdays are my horrible day. And I am only in school 3 days a week and do other stuff the other days.

Good evening Thandeka. I've just read your post in which you express your post mc fears. We are virtually in the same boat and HappyBump too. So let's hold hands during the next weeks, ey? Also, don't forget another point in common: the fact we've both stopped teaching. As I said earlier this morning, I'm only in my 5th week and on that rollercoaster already. I'm with you and HappyBump .... and all the others too, of course .

PlumBumMum · 26/05/2009 10:31

Ohh Thandeka that sound like a BFP but to me, I got a faint line with dc3 she 2.6 now!
Ilovebeingamummy will keep fingers crossed for you & feelingfrazzled

HappyBump · 26/05/2009 10:24

Hi Thandeka, I just wanted to give you some reassurance. The first time I mc'd at the end of Jan 2007, I went on to have a successful pregnancy straight away which resulted in my DS at the beginning Dec 2007. So I would say it is totally possible to have a successful pregnancy so soon after mc.

Take a deep breath, you will be fine. x

feelingfrazzled · 26/05/2009 10:16

Can I gate crash?

AF due yesterday and she was a no show We only BD the once this month but it was about the time I ov.

To test or not to test, that is the question?

Thandeka · 26/05/2009 10:09

Thanks ILBAM (which amused me to shorten your name to! ;) sorry!)

Hope both of ours stay far away! Fingers crossed.

Ilovebeingamummy · 26/05/2009 10:04

well i still have my bfn...and I did a first response and CB digital with fmu

No af though...

Congrats Thandeka

Thandeka · 26/05/2009 09:36

My head is all over the place! I'm really scared its too soon and my womb hasn't healed enough to hold onto this one. My MMC was 38 days ago but bleeding didn't stop until 26 days ago. I ovulated 12 days after the bleeding stopped (day 26) and currently the emby is maximum 12 days old. So am in the limbo zone. Since the MMC I will be entitled to an early scan but last time I had one at 6.3 and all was fine HB etc and I still lost it so am not sure what the point is. I guess if I can hang on til 9 weeks (MC risk drops massively here) then that will be okay but then that's only the week before the 10 week barrier I need to get past (MMC was 10.1).

My diet this month has been shocking- lots of chocolate and wine and comfort food so hardly the best start although since the very very faint late positive confusion on friday I haven't had any alchol and i have upped my fruit and veg intake and switched back to decaff. Oh and I was on metronidazole the course of which finished the day after I ovulated (and didn't know I had ovulated that day until 3 days later and my temp chart drew the line) so a bit worried about that but figure most of it will have been out of my system by the time fertilisation happened hopefully.

Oh my god I was a nightmare paranoid bundle of nerves last time I was pregnant- now its going to be 10 times worse! Oh and I just handed in my notice (but am getting paid til end of aug thankfully) so I have no sick benefit etc.

Okay Thandeka goes off to calm down and drink a cup of herbal tea. Sorry for the gabbled post! Will get self over to the Pregnancy after miscarriage thread pronto for some knicker checking support.

sounds positive to me!! However I don't blame you for doing the Clearblue one too. I'll be watching. Looks like Jardins you and I are all about the same timing post mc.

jardins · 26/05/2009 09:23

I know where you're coming from Thandeka re: Glasto. My mc (end of March) has made me really cautious. I've even switched to decaff coffee! I'm a coffee snob but only usually indulge in one a day, but now, it's (good quality, thank God) decaff for me. How are you feeling this morning re: BFPs?
