I shouldn't be pregnant (on the mini pill, 1st month after having coil removed and then 3 months of condom) but because of certain symptoms (wierd taste in mouth, feeling really light headed) decided to do test this morning. I have the faintest of lines, if I really look hard for it. The thing is - I really want to know today whether I am or not. I have tickets for Glastonbury festival which I have until midnight tonight to sell back otherwise if I don't go I just loose the money (£180 so not to be sneezed at). If I am pregnant- quite apart from going arrrggghhhhhh, I won't want to go to Glastonbury for reasons of higiene, morning sickness and generally being sober watching all my mates get ratted on pear cider!!! The test I did this morning is a first response 6 days early jobbie - I know waiting until tomorrow am is the best option but I need to sell tickets today. Is there a brand of test that would maybe work this afternoon???? Sorry for ramble - its early and I'm in shock....off to work this morning, will check replies this afternoon. thanks so much

Hello! I worked for the company that makes Clearblue, (and the hospital used ones as well), for years, and know all about them!

The hormone produced in pregnancy (hCG) is ONLY produced when you are pregnant and it doesn't exsist in the body when you are not. This is the hormone that makes the blue line appear on the test stick when you are pregnant.

Therefore it is absolutely impossible to get a positive result when you are not pregnant (i.e. a false positive). But is is possible to get a false negative, due to very tiny amounts of hCG (below 25mlu) not being picked up by the test.

So if there IS a line, then you are pregnant i'm afraid... But as mentioned, sometimes you can miscarry so early that it seems like a normal period anyway... This is why lots of people claim that you can get false positives with test kits.

Best to do another this evening. But try not to drink anything as it dilutes the hormone too much and is harder to detect. xxx

I would go for digital test too, fr have always been faint for me, got a line on a cheapie test before fr. Good luck anyway, Glastonbury or a baby great result either way.

Thanks all - I may just buy the digital test in case it helps. Appreciate your thoughts.

FYmmumoftwo - unfortunately I cannot cancel tickets after today and you cannot sell them on. Its like getting in to fort knox these days - tickets have your picture on and everthing. I would be gutted to loose £180 - although, would be more gutted if pregnancy didn't progress and then I'd sold my ticket -Glastonbury is the one thing me and DH have always done together even after children were born, its kind of our time out.

Will discuss with DH but I think I may just keep the ticket and then I suppose just loose the dosh if I have to. I couldn't go - would be fully in the throws of terrible morning sickness by then if my previous two pregnancies are anything to go by.

I had a really faint line with my first l could hardly see it we looked at it for hours. I was pregnant. A line is a line.Try digital one but my gp told me you are more likely to get a false negative than a false positive. Does that make sense?

fymmumoftwo · 08/05/2009 08:50

you used the most sensitive test - a line is a line and means pg

BUT it is very early, many pregnancies never progress beyond a few days - i wouldn't base your decision on a possible pregnancy

Lates face it if you are pg, you can still go or can you sell the tickets on?

ReneRusso · 08/05/2009 08:45

I agree with boodleboot - don't pee for a few hours and then do a digital test this afternoon

boodleboot · 08/05/2009 08:18

when i got the faintest of lines and i couldn't wait any longer to know i went and got one of those clearblue digital tests which flashed up pregnant and told me i conceived 1-2 weeks ago....they are very sensitive and made it much more final seeing the word pregnant rather than guessing myself about the strength of a line....

good luck. x

A line is a line so you're pg.

The test you used is the earliest that you would be able to test. No drinking, and hold your wee for as long as you can, at least 3 hours preferrably more, to retest later today. Otherwise you will have to wait til tomorrow.
