New thread for all ttcers who want to moan etc...

Hi all,

Really pissed off today... Got a temperature dip this morning, although only day 8, and so did an ovulation stick test this morning and got the darkest line I've ever had! I thought I'd be ovulating at the weekend, but it's obviously happening earlier this month, so I v. quickly sorted out stuff at home to go and see our donor this evening + tomorrow morning (i.e. got time off work) and he's just e-mailed me to say sorry but he can't do it this month - he's got a lodger staying this week and is out this evening.

Aarrggggghhhhhhh.......................

Our donor is brilliant and this will be the first time he's not been able to do it, but I'm really down 'cos it's the strongest ovulation line I've had, and it's so frustrating that I'll have to wait yet another month. (couldn't try last month because of conflicting stuff).

Sorry. Had to grumble - I've only just got his e-mail.

Ho hum....

bayleaf · 06/05/2003 10:14

Ghosty - If you can bear to do it then the Dr has given good advice IMO, I've certainly heard of people being advised similarly - she is clearly ''taking it seriously'' as often Drs just don't and give really facile advice.
The only problem with the ''stop trying'' advice is that some of us know that if we do then the chances of getting pregnant are nil as our 'natural ' sex life is not active enough! It sounds like that's not the case for you tho so, yes, do stop counting and just have lots of fun sex!
Good Luck...

jane101 - any news ??? Did you go ahead? I've got a week to go till FET hoefully - will know more on Thursday when I ahve a scan

Ghosty,
I can't offer any advice for going forward but
I can totally relate to this at the moment. After m/c I had my first period last week, but it was heavy, long and like you described, almost black and bitty. Yukky! It lasted about 8 days. I normally last 3/4! So I think I might have to go and see the Doc and get on the pill to regulate it a bit. I will see how the next one goes - when it decides to come. Have you read in the m/c thread? There is someone who has just gone back on the pill after similar probs. I know how you feel though. Regular as clockwork, previously conceived no probs and now after m/c it's all changed. I cannot beleive how much a m/c affects you and for how long! It took 6 weeks for mine to stop. I really want another baby! Keep in touch Ghosty, let me know if you get any more info! It all helps!
xxxx

Hello everyone ... how's it all going? Sorry Bunny2 that you are feeling so low ... it is awful for you and I hope the doctor gives you some pointers on what you should do.
Boogs ... thanks for your lovely comments ...
I have a little update ... I went to the doctor today to have a chat about it all and also to talk about my periods which, after 20 years of being totally regular (28 days on the dot) have gone mad since my M/C - the cycle is now anywhere between 21 and 33 days and the periods are really really heavy to start with and then last 10 days ... the last couple of days being really yukky and blackish brown and bitty (sorry!).
Anyway ... the doctor (who I have only just signed up with) was really lovely and supportive and we had a really long chat. She said first of all that the reason I am not getting pregnant may be because I want it too much ... and that phychologically is not doing my body any good .. she says that I am too stressed about it and I should stop counting the days in my cycle and trying to work out when I ovulate ... easier said than done ... but I do think she has a point.
The other thing she said is that it isn't unusual for periods to be messed up after an M/C and she has advised me to go on the pill for 3 months to regulate them again ... I agreed and came away with a prescription for Mercilon, which I used to take when I was young free and single (ie. slapper ) ... but when I came home I thought I would post to see if anyone else has ever had to do this??
Obviously it would mean that I would have to put the baby thing on the back burner for 3 months ... and maybe that would help me relax about it for a while but do you think it is a good idea?
Any thoughts???????
Oh ... she also wants to do blood test in the middle of this cycle (before I start taking the pill) to see what my hormones are doing.

bunny2 · 04/05/2003 13:48

Thaks Toblerone . Glad to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Bayleaf, I ma going to do a search on the products you mentioned. Are they both to regulate ovulation?

Toblerone · 03/05/2003 17:50

Hi Bunny2 - I posted on the Am I pregnant?? thread... basically what I said was: My friend had no period for 4 months..... loads of negative pg tests and eventually got referred for fertility tests. A week or so before the appointment she had a positive pg test! A scan revealed she was only 7 weeks pregnant. So she managed to conceive when her periods had seemed to stop. There's hope for you. Keep trying.

bayleaf · 03/05/2003 17:46

+++A Dr Reckeweg Product, R20, ( originally suggested by the woman who used to give me accupuncture then subsequently from the Nutricentre -in London but they do mail order.)
It costs about £10 per bottle.
I've also taken Vitex ( Angus Castus) herb which is supposed to be very good but that was after the r20 had sorted me out adn I was just taking anything that ''might'' give me the egde adnget me pregnant ( believe me for about a year I did EVERYTHING - then found out it was him and not me!)
I can imagine how you feel - I have no less than 8 friends due in the next 6 months!
HTH

thanks Bayleaf. One of my best mates ahd a girl a couple of days ago and I went to buy a Congrats card today. That was quite hard. What was the homeopathy you used?

bayleaf · 03/05/2003 13:08

OH Bunny - don't cry - I can quite appreciate how fed up you must feel - once upon a time my cycle was very similar - I sorted it thru homeopathy but there are also drugs a GP can give you to sort it out - Clomid for eg - tho GPs do seem to vary in whether they will prescribe this themselves or whether they want to refer you to a specialist. I'm not having ivf cos of me - I actually do ov pretty normally on a 31 day cycle now - it's dh who is the problem ( his sperm has apparently stopped swimming since dd).
Don't despair!

OP posts:
bunny2 · 03/05/2003 11:37

Hi Bayleaf, I jsut dont know any more. I had a period in December, then 8 weeks till the next, then a mere 4 weeks on the next cycle. This one is 7 weeks so far. I am going to go to the doctors next week, for me the first step will be establishing if I am actually ovulating. I tried weeing on sticks last month but with such a long cycle, where on earth do you start? Also, with a long cycle, you have to wait forever to try again. If I do ovulate it is probably only a handful of times a year. What hope does that give me. . Want to cry today so maybe its PMT.

bayleaf · 03/05/2003 08:28

Don't moan Bunny - at least dh wants more kids - I've got ivf to continue and dh is utterly indifferent - he'd happily stop at just dd!
Tell him dr's test are no moe reliable than hpts these days ( it's true) it's only blood tests which are better and you won't get one of them at your gp's surgery.
Sorry your period is taking so long to come - I DO understand how frustrating that is, do you have any idea if/when you ov'd?

OP posts:
bunny2 · 03/05/2003 00:54

Nice to be back in touch after a few days away without internet access. Still no period since mid March. I have had 2 neg pregnancy tests and want a good moan about dh and his lack of sympathy. He really wants more children yet refuses to get excited about late periods. Ok, I can get carried away when I am late (not wise when you are as irregular as me) but he could at least join in a bit. His response is to wait a few weeks and then go to the doctor for a (more reliable) test. How can I explain to him that putting this out of my mind for a few weeks is IMPOSSIBLE. Every time I go to the loo I am on look out for signs of a period (mmmmm, nice) and every morning I am tempted to do another test. He just doesnt get it.

elliott · 02/05/2003 13:23

same from me Jane101 - wishing you all the best of luck for this cycle.

bayleaf · 01/05/2003 20:58

Jane101 - just wanted to wish you luck for the weekend - hope it all goes to plan and happens on the right day/they have staff in when you need them to! It HAS to be our turn soon.....

Ghosty, it's strange but I actually feel gutted that you're not pg, after waiting to hear whether you came on last Thursday. I haven't come on yet after the m/c but am not really waiting for it as I've never experienced this before, so don't know what to expect. I think we should all STOP TRYING, then we'll all get pg by accident!

dot1 · 29/04/2003 12:00

Ghosty - welcome! I don't think it matters whether you've got anything 'technically serious' wrong or not - the fact is you're trying like the rest of us! Good luck!!

kirby · 28/04/2003 12:50

thanx 2 meanmum and quakers! i shall b bk 2morrow if anyone would like 2 chat 2 me then! thanx everyone 4 ya help! i just wanna be a good mum!

Meanmum · 28/04/2003 12:27

Kirby - you need to read the thread on world's worst mum to know what not to do. Mind you we all seem to do it anyway. I agree with Quackers. Don't try to be perfect. Your child will love you no matter what you do or don't do and will never know you should be doing it if you aren't as you are the one teaching them on a daily basis about life. Good luck with everything and I hope we see much more of you on mumsnet.

quackers · 28/04/2003 12:24

You sound wonderful Kirby!!! Thanks for the compliment I'm touched - and blushing!! 4 weeks! Wow! Sound like your hormones are already racing if your being sick!
Being a good Mum - anyone out there got any tips for our Kirby? I think enjoy every moment of your new baby and make a little record of all their achievements and milestones - it's great when I look at mine - my daughter is now 2 and a half. These are the little things that make you bond and the nice bits of being a Mum. Have confidence and don't beat yourself up when you make a mistake

kirby · 28/04/2003 12:10

thanx quakers! u are such a great help! i respect u so much! im not that far gone! it due in jan so few weeks prob bout 4! i want to be the worlds best mum! u got any pointers 4 me 2 being a good mum? xx

quackers · 28/04/2003 12:03

Marina, good for you! I'm truly delighted for you and your family. Thanks for the advise. I'm am so sorry for the loss of Tom, brings tears to my eyes that feeling. Mumsnet has done more for Mums than they could imagine! Good luck and happy days!
I'll be trying out the persona - probably need to reset it somehow though!
Kirby - all the best to you! Well done! You so deserve it and can look forward all being well to a healthy pregnancy and a new life for you and your fiancee. How far gone are you? I presume you are looking at the 'pregnancy' thread?? It's really useful for first time Mums. I read alot I suppose when I was having my first, I was petrified of giving birth but came out the other side feeling on top of the world and a real sense of acheivement! Morning sickness - everyone's different. I hardly had any but my poor friend had it for 18-20 weeks. I had to take out shares in Gaviscon though for heartburn!!! I found the Gina Ford Contented Baby Book very useful as I didn't have a clue about what to do with my daughter at first! It's a nice supplement to your own way of looking after your baby. Mum knows best!!! It's true!!!

kirby · 28/04/2003 11:45

thanx qackers! yeah me and my fiancee are well over the moon! being 1st time mum2b is hard i dont know alot so any info would b good bout anything! eg morning sickness thanx xx

Marina · 28/04/2003 11:45

Quackers, unfortunately we never got a reason for Tom's death - as is apparently the case for about 70% of late miscarriages/stillbirths in the UK. I have found this particularly hard to deal with now I'm pregnant again because anything is perceived as a threat to this new baby... but, having got to 25 weeks plus and getting good support from friends, health professionals and e-friends at Mumsnet has all helped a lot.
The Persona shows "green" for much of the month but "red" for the days around ovulation. And although their literature and website insist you should not use the Persona for TTC, we found making sure we had plenty of time for each other during the red period meant that two months later Tom was on the way. OK, so he didn't make it, as it happens. But we still conceived him quickly after nearly two years of faffing around with test sticks.
(This bit might be for Ghosty too...) we were advised by our consultant to forget frantically concentrating on the five days around the time we thought I might be ovulating. He suggested that we make love every other day throughout my cycle (that's me and dh not me and the consultant I hastily point out). What the Persona did help us with was deciding whether to take a rain-check on any given day because of exhaustion was a good idea!
Good luck to you both. There is a great thread running for those of us who have succeeded in getting pregnant after losing a baby, and I am sure we all hope to see you two there before long.

quackers · 28/04/2003 11:30

Marina - thanks soooo much for your message. I am so sorry for the loss of your littl'n. Do you know what happened?
I am pleased to hear that you got pg again so quickly! I will definately get my persona out and dust off the cobwebs - How did you know which day to 'do it' on????
Big hugsxx

Ghosty · 28/04/2003 11:29

Mind if I upgrade myself too???? I have been posting on another thread as I was really hoping I was pg this month and was a bit gutted when I wasn't. Like quackers I had an m/c and also feel a bit under pressure to be pregnant again ... putting myself under pressure that is. I had no problems conceiving DS (now 3 and a half) or the one that I lost and so now that I am entering the 5th month of trying it is becoming a bit of an obsession.
I have been lurking on this thread for ages as I wasn't sure if I should post ... as most others seem to have more serious problems in conceiving and have been trying for longer ... hope you don't mind if I join you???
