Hi, i'm new to mumsnet. I don't have children - yet, I am ttc via a fertility clinic. Going to be having IUI plus medication to boost fertility etc. Would be glad to hear from others using clinics/IUI etc as it's all a bit of a minefield.
Thanks !

The transfer went well, I think. All three survived the thaw, which is great! They even played a little video of the actual depositing over and over again and they left DH and I in the room to watch it and be close to one another while the embies were "settling in". It was very romantic, in a strange way - there we were watching our three maybe-babies being deposited in one little white speck!

How is your waiting/testing going??? Sometimes being distracted and focused on other things (like your consultant visit) can help - or so I hear!

I'll be gone for 3 days to travel a bit, be back on Monday-ish! (DH will be at home working and taking care of the new dog.)

Hope you get the POS this time, but even if you don't there's hope right around the corner. December 1st is very close!!! (Fingers and toes crossed for you!)

sgibbo · 10/11/2009 16:32

Your DOC sounds wonderful, if only they were like her over here!

So how did transfer go???? Did they thaw????

Only 2 days and counting but have a feeling that it will be BFN.

if i'm honest i'm more focused on the meeting with the consultant

islegrin · 09/11/2009 13:27

I completely understand wanting to try everything before going for ONE ivf. We were essentially in the same boat, so it was really important for us to try for some to freeze. (FET isn't cheap, but a lot less expensive than unfunded IVF!) I explained this carefully to the doc, because I figure it was better for us all to be on the same page, even if it wasn't possible. From being on MN, I also knew it wasn't very likely to get to the freezer stage - but my doc was always very hopeful about that.

I think the docs can tell by how we react to certain drugs what will probably be the outcome, but I know they don't have a crystal ball either.

It's very early yet - still a few hours before transfer... not so patiently waiting! I'll get back on when I'm all done. Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and my prayers that all three survive the thaw!

sgibbo · 09/11/2009 10:28

I certainly do have those ones, although i only have one left so need to get some more. They have certainly saved me a fortune in tests, the others are sooo expensive!!!

i would like to know if there are any issues but because we only get one shot on the NHS i'd rather try everything else before we go straight to it

so transfer today???? how did it all go????

islegrin · 06/11/2009 17:27

sgibbo! I know exactly what you mean about testing early - I have the same thoughts!!! Do you have those thin, cheapie ones that turn positive at only 20 HCG? I bought 20 or so a while back for only $0.80 a piece, they become my best friends during the second week of waiting!

That's a great back up plan to have just in case it's neg this time - you won't have long to wait at all to talk about IVF options. Do you think you will go straight to that? Any idea of issues at all?

I've been on sticking drugs for 3 weeks or so, soooo hopefully that will make the difference this time.

Dogs are fun, and a lot of work - but the fun balances that out. Sorry your DH isn't much of a fan.

sgibbo · 06/11/2009 17:10

I'm noticing bad skin, needing the toilet all the time, painful breasts - all of which can be explained rationally!!!! lol

I am 9days PO so not long to go but if i'm honest i've done three tests already (mad i know because it's way too early) but it's kind of a way to avoid the disappoint if i already kindof know the answer

five more days until either AF or BFP, if AF then 10days and counting till we see the consultant and we find out whether we can go on the waiting list for IVF

That's FAB i bet your soo excited, have you had the drugs that will make them stick???

He is soo gorgeous, i'd love a dog but DH won't budge yet on letting me have one.

islegrin · 06/11/2009 16:09

LOL - I knew blue cars were lucky!!!

So do tell - what are you noticing? Is it class A symptoms (soreness, nausea, veiny-ness) or class B (baby clothes flying into your basket, dreams of babies perched on ice cream cones, baby powder has become a good foundation make-up). How many dpo are you now???

Oh, I honestly cannot wait to POAS, of course it would help to do the ET first! Speaking of which - it's official - for Monday! yay!!! Estrogen levels have come up to where they need to be and lining is a bit thicker, so we're all set for ET! Then the countdown begins til POAS, but you FIRST!

Pic of new dog is in my profile now, yes - he's getting there. Right now with the two visitors it's hard to get into a routine, but I'm confident the dog will fit right into things here. He's so happy and such a nice distraction!

sgibbo · 04/11/2009 17:47

Symptom spotting like mad but then convincing myself that it's all in my head! I'm going to keep an eye out for blue cars now!!!! lol

it certainly is - although seems that theres a draugt now!!!

How is the new dog? has it settled in yet?

so does that mean you won't have transfer until Monday?

islegrin · 03/11/2009 06:08

Another blood test and scan today - they've now delayed me at LEAST 3 days due to low estrogen levels... BAH!!!

islegrin · 30/10/2009 18:29

I am about a week behind you - I have my last scan on Monday morning (and blood draw) then if that goes well, we'll do the transfer on Friday, one week from today.

Symptom spotting eh??? Are you having weird dreams? Has your mind been preoccupied lately? Does it seem like everywhere you go there are blue cars??? I've heard that these all can be symptoms .

Fun sex can return, it's just a downer to have to do it... speaking of fun sex... [evil grin]

Haircut tomorrow, then cleaning cleaning cleaning in prep for mom and aunt arriving on Monday (with our new dog!!!). Something to keep my mind occupied for the next week.

sgibbo · 30/10/2009 10:09

That all sounds really positive, i know how you feel about not getting your hopes up, but it's so hard not too

I am ffically in the TWW and i'm symptom spotting like a mad woman!

It's been a bit mechanical and most certainly unromantic this week, Drs orders hasn't been as much fun as we thought it might have been. There's nothing like having to do something to take the fun out of it!

At least now there will be less pressure on the situation.

So when do you have your next stage????

islegrin · 29/10/2009 01:59

Not to worry - scan today showed everything is great! Turns out the EWCM is caused by the estrogen they have me on, so they expected it and it's a good thing. Lining was great, etc. etc. etc.

islegrin · 28/10/2009 23:05

I'm holding my breath, actually. I'm supposed to be at the stage where I'm just building lining and no follicles to prep for next Friday FET. [side note: they did find 8 v. small follies last scan] BUT yesterday I had a lot of EWCM and I never had my period from the downregging part... so I'm scared they are going to find me ovulating today and will cancel the cycle. (I know, it's batty, I'm embarrassed to even say it, actually) I will know for sure either way in a few hours.

I really hate to say this, but these days I'm almost expecting the worst news for self-preservation reasons (the let down isn't as bad if you don't get your hopes up) OK, enough of that - back to ignoring emotions and thoughts and feelings! No sense in worrying.

YAY for shagging wtih intent! Go for it! I'm so glad you made it to the trigger day, now you can start the tww maddness. It's kinda fun to watch from the sidelines... tee hee hee.

Much luck! xx

sgibbo · 28/10/2009 11:36

had ovitrelle this morning, last one for now (thank god) DH is finding it hard to give them to me because he keeps bruising me!

how are things going with you?

islegrin · 27/10/2009 17:47

Doctor's orders! ha ha - awesome to hear you know for sure what size and that the timing will be right!

I'm so happy for you that you are on track.

sgibbo · 27/10/2009 15:12

Scan yesterday, had to have another shot of menopur last night and then i can have ovitrelle first thing tomorrow morning!

Lining was 8mm and largest was 15mm

DH is looking forward to the next few days because i can't use the excuse i've got a headache lol, his new saying is Doctors orders!

islegrin · 27/10/2009 08:29

Did you get your scan today? Ovitrelle???

sgibbo · 24/10/2009 21:15

I think i may suggest it when we see the consultant in November, we only get one shot so i would like to know we have the best possible chance.

I've been researching on the internet about MTHFR and it's such a simple test that it should really be made standard!

I try not to think about things not working and try to stay as positive as possible, i think that's one to the main things that keeps me going! Otherwise i think i would have given up a long time ago

You can talk to me anytime, i know what it's like i'm very lucky that i have someone that i can talk to about it otherwise i think i would drive myself crazy,

I'm on CD 9 with scan on CD11 and hopefully Ovitrelle then, DH prefers not to be under pressure so we will probably be shagging all the time!!! I would be fantastic if we both fell at the same time it would be great xxxx

DH has been doing them in the arm, for some reason i find it easier being able to keep an eye on what he is doing rather then let him do them in the backside!

I had to do the injection myself tonight and mixed feelings really, DH is not home tonight at all and i really considered phoning my dad to come and do it but managed to get my head round doing it! (not an experience i would want to repeat) i had to do it in my stomach which was a different experience entirely! lol

islegrin · 23/10/2009 19:36

PS My mum (the nurse) will be here to do the progesterone inj, so DH will get to escape that part (he's thrilled) Sorry about your bruising!!! Is it arm or backside?

islegrin · 23/10/2009 19:32

The mutation has a very long name MTHFR is the short version - it basically keeps your body from breaking down folic acid and can cause vascular issues, clots, and miscarriage. I have one mutation on two genes, but a single on a single is v common (40% and may cause no issues) double or two on one is less common(5%) and more issues.

I have asked why no one did this test earlier, but the bottom line is very few docs even do them at all. My doc only started about 2 yrs ago. Mostly they don't do some of these tests until you have demonstrated a history of failed attempts, unfortunately that means we have to go through the failures! I count myself lucky that I have a doc that even ran the test, my gyn wouldn't have, in fact he discourages AC thinking that it's better to just let nature run its course (all fine and good if you have no issues).

By Thanksgiving we will know the results! So strange, I've got mixed emotions about that part. If it's negative again, I will be devastated - hmmm, I don't know if I've used that particular word before, but it feels appropriate this time. We're just getting down to the wire and I'm feeling the pressure.

I wish I had someone here who I could talk to about all of these things that was going through it. My trusted friends are at the point where they are avoiding pregnancy.

What CD are you on now? Are you going to just dtd for 7 days straight around OV? Shag with all you got, hon! It would be a great victory if even one of us got properly diffed this year, but I'm really hoping for BOTH of us!

xxx

sgibbo · 23/10/2009 10:42

I've had my letter through now confirming the appointment with the consultant to see whether can be put on the list!

I'm on Menopur, we've decided not to tell people that we have started the injections again so I can't get my Dad to do them this time, so DH has been doing them and OMG they have either stung, bruised or really hurt!

It must have been really frustrating to know that after all this time it was something so simple to rectify! They should probably do those tests before your first try, especially over here you only have one shot on the NHS before you have to go private.

I have been talking to my freind recently about TTC because she has been TTC for about 5 months now and she has read all kinds of books and knows what times etc and what she should be doing and when. But her main concerns and main topics of conversation are the things that they don't check for because they expect standard answers not realising that there could be something not text book.

We were only talking the other day about sticking and she is worried that her luetal phase(if i have spelt that correctly???)isn't long enough for it to stick.

On my CD 2 i had a really heavy flow so much so that i had to be near a bath room every half hour (sorry TMI) and we think it could have been a CP. She thinks that I have a hormone deficeit that is stopping sticking

Do you have to take the tablets until it has stuck or longer term? Does the Genetic Mutation have a name?

Two weeks isn't that long to wait, the time will fly by! It'll soon be thanks giving and you'll have loads to keep you busy to pass the time! lol

Sorry, another long one!!!!

xxxxx

islegrin · 22/10/2009 23:59

Don't be sorry at all, I'm very glad to hear your news! Especially that the wait list has shortened so much, that's excellent! So you are on menopur? I can't wait to hear your results with it, I hope this is the last time you will have to bother with any of this.

Please don't be offended by my ribbing you - about pre-wed bliss. I meant no offense.

Well I feel like the rollercoaster has broken down on me and we're waiting for repairmen as we sit stuck in the middle of one hill and another! My doc did some (new cutting-edge) miscarriage panel of blood tests and found that I have a genetic mutation that causes non-stickiness. I was blue about that for a couple of days, because we've lost YEARS without knowing a thing about it. Now there's doubt whether my previous BFP was really an ectopic or just early mc. Either way, the positive side is that it is an easy fix, just a pill everyday and I'm all sticky again! I feel like it's almost too late, this might be our last time of trying... but at least we have it sorted out beforehand! Gives us the best shot we've ever had!

In two weeks we go in for FET (3 embys this time), then the dreaded tww. Right now, just tiny little shots .1cc (nearly nothing compared to what we've been through) and some pills and some patches - easy peasy. Sounds like you are just a few days ahead of me, that will be nice to be near the same schedule again.

Now I've gone on toooo long, sorry about that!

xx

sgibbo · 21/10/2009 23:35

Hey, sorry i haven't had 5 minutes to do anything at the moment and have been meaning to get back on here

Finally got meds sorted although it took forever it was apparently to do with stock and then it was to do with the manufacturer! started to take them this sunday I have a scan on monday to check the sizes and then hopefully i can have ovitrelle!

We decided that before we got married that we would stop using contraception so that my body could 'get back to normal' for when we intended to start. It is becoming more the norm here that you have a child out of wed lock

Not long left for you to wait now???? how have you been? have you any updates?

I spoke to the FC nurse this week and i had a surprising conversation with her that we were only supposed to have three cycles with ovitrelle and then we were supposed to go on the IVF list. Which if we had of known we would have been on the list back in April! Now we have to finish this cycle and then see the consultant and then go on the list. Because it will be on the NHS there will be a waiting list but apparently it's at 6 months at present so that's very positive news, when we first started the injections the list was 18months long!

Sorry for the long post had loads of information this week so excited to tell you!

islegrin · 14/10/2009 23:52

bump

islegrin · 08/10/2009 19:21

Sgibbo,

Just wondering how you are getting along. Not very exciting during this part - did you get your meds sorted out?

xx
