I go for egg collection on Thursday. Excited and scared of failure.

Is anyone currently going through this?

Flumpette

CONGRATULATIONS - I am delighted for you and your DH. Take care of yourself and your precious cargo. You have given me hope for my IVF cycle.

Cll · 03/05/2005 21:52

Sorry also to hijack - I'm thrilled for you flumpette - huge congrats - But I know IVF regulars may check here and need some advice/sympathy/hope? Just spoke with my sister who was 15 days post transfer today and her test is negative...it's her 4th IVF attempt (chemical preg on 3rd attempt) she's 42 and doing it with donor sperm ie on her own. I've been with her to all appointments and was just so sure it would be our turn this time. Feel devastated for her but don't know whether to persuade her to do another test with her first wee tomorrow as she's only had brown discharge so far no fresh blood and did test around 8.30pm. Would you get a false neg 15 days pt or am I, as one Ivf friend said, getting addicted to the hope? She's convinced it's over for this time, I want her to take the cyclogest till she's sure...or should I just let her be?

I just so want to be an auntie and for her to have a baby...sorry again to add a sombre thought to such a happy and hopeful thread. Sending baby dust everyone's way

chiplet · 03/05/2005 21:26

Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting on your thread (I'm not sure of the etiquette). Have not posted before but have been following what's been going on so firstly, congratulations flumpette! I'm really pleased for you and it's so reassuring when this works for people.

This thread's been really useful as I am on day 4 of 2ww. You guys seem really knowledgable and I need some help. I just wanted to know when I might get my period if this doesn't work? Could it be before day 14? Also, could it be late?I'm not trying to be negative but any slight twinge means that I think it's coming.

Thanks in advance.

Flumpette · 03/05/2005 19:36

Pruni and Bubbly.

Thank you for your kind words. I've just read about a lady who did a test 11 dpt on the fertility friends website and the moderator confirmed that yep, it will be a definite at this stage.

DH smiling big time as he was so anxious too.

Can't believe it. Sooooooo lucky.

Bubbly - praying for your follicles to grow nicely and for your imminent cycle Pruni.

Will keep you posted.

Hi Bubbly

I called the clinic to ask what happens if I test 3 days before and they said if positive, then I'm pregnant and if negative then it could be a false reading.

So, dh walked in and we tested.

BFP!!!!!!!!! Clear Blue test and horizontal line of cross bold but vertical line feinter. Definitely there though.

Whooping around kitchen with joy.

Need reassurance as a little nervous having tested early.

So, today I feel GREAT!!!!!!

flumpette, another day over hun...not long now and you will soon know although right now a day seems like a week doesnt it!!

im feeling okay, anxious and hoping that all is going well with my follicles...will soon find out, my appt is at 2.15 so not long for me

im glad the white witch managed to help you, i know you must be feeling heaps better for this

take care...feeling any different today?

Flumpette · 03/05/2005 09:55

Hi. Thanks for explaining abbreviations. DS fast asleep right now so I came straight to PC to check the site. It's a lifeline and really helps.

Last time I was really slim and the tummy was very obvious once the cyclogest took hold and this time I hadn't lost all my weight from pregnancy but the difference is huge and I do look pregnant. Let's just hope I am!

That's amazing though that your tummy does that. Just shows how powerful we are!

The white witch should have done a spell for me now but I didn't want to contact her to help others because she is going through a tough time herself.

I have been grumpy rather than tearful and snappy. Poor dh (dear husband, see I'm getting the hang of it).

Glad I can test on Friday 6th May. Thanks for confirming. I probably would have tested anyway and again on Saturday morning.

Count down.

How are you today?

OP posts:
bubbly1973 · 02/05/2005 20:43

ds means dear son (dd means dear daughter)

i assume ET is egg transfer?

if so, then i would say 14 days from then is when you test, so yes you are right.

as for the stomach getting bigger, i have to be honest, when i was trying naturally, and if af (aunt flo-period) didnt arrive when i assumed it would, my stomach would miracously get bigger..weird but true

so if i thought i was pregnant, my stomach would grow, how strange is that!!!

i am so hoping you are pregnant, praying for you since your friend the white witch is busy

did you get sore boobs on your first treatment (i know the pessaries can cause this) and do you feel weepy? did you feel weepy on the last go?

arrrgggh the suspense is killing me, i hate to think what you must be going through

Flumpette · 02/05/2005 20:15

Bubbly. You and I are in the same position as our 1st cycle brought us our beautiful boy (is DS a boy and what does DS stand for?)

I too will fall hard if it doesn't work but there is no worse feeling than being childless so I thank God for our little boy.

My stomach looks like I'm pregnant as it has taken on that shape and today I went to a May Day fete and had to hide it as I didn't want locals to ask if I am expecting!

I think I may be confused. I have counted day 1 as the ET day and so I was going to test around the same time of day 14 days later, ie. ET on 23rd April and test on 6th May. Is that right as my clinic didn't elaborate on this.

bubbly1973 · 02/05/2005 19:47

flumpette, what day are you on after the eggs were put back in...did you have them put in 2 weeks saturday so today makes you day 9?

emotionally i feel fine, but i do know it hits me very very hard when im waiting after the insemination, and i have to be honest, this time round is worse because i am half expecting it to work as it did the first time around, and i know i will fall with a big hard thud if its negative

but in a way i know i have my ds so i know things could be much much worse where i all my treatments could have been negative and we would be childless
very mixed emotions, really, but im bottling it up and trying not to think too much about it all

how do you feel?

Flumpette · 02/05/2005 19:39

Hi. No, I used to chart before the laporoscopy and I really understood what my body was doing, so I just knew there was a deeper problem because my chart showed normal temps. etc. I hadn't even thought of taking my temperature throughout IVF cycle and to be honest I'm not sure I'd know if the cyclogest etc. was changing the reading.

On the 1st cycle I did feel twinges and of course worried that AF was on her way but as you say it must have been the embryos embedding.

Trouble is having read about others it appears that one can get symptoms that look positive only to find a BFN!

I haven't had any spotting so far and last time I had a tiny tiny bit on day 9 and of course now I know it must have been implantation.

How are you feeling? Do you find it's easier emotionally before the 2ww?

Flumpette x

OP posts:
bubbly1973 · 01/05/2005 20:57

flumpette, do you take your temperature every morning?

bubbly1973 · 01/05/2005 20:57

flumpette, i always have it in my head that when feeling any sort of cramps whilst doing the treatment is a good sign, means somethings happening down there like the embroy embedding deep within!!

im fine thanks for asking, my turn for the 2ww soon, so as you are going through it right now i am really sympathising with you and know how long it can be..every twinge makes you wonder

as for sex...hmmm dont you find you want it more when you cant have it

did you feel twinges the last time you did the treatment...do you feel exactly like you did the last time?

i know every pregnancy is different, but sometimes cant help comparing to the last

Flumpette · 01/05/2005 20:45

Hi Bubbly. Thanks for asking. Wouldn't it be so much easier just to make love! Well I'm really hormonal and have had stomach cramps again today but no spotting.

Had a lovely day with all my family ie. parents, sisters etc. and all the children who are adorable, so that cheered me up.

I'm already planning to test 14 days to the hour!!! The suspense is punishing.

How are you?

flumpette, how are you feeling today? thinking of you, and just wondering how things are going

one more week to go...fingers crossed xxx

dizzy36 · 30/04/2005 10:37

8 months doesn't sound too bad a wait but if going private is a matter of wks rather than months then might go for that option. if have to go down ivf route then want to get started asap.

Thanks for finding out about white witch, not to worry, hope shes ok soon

Flumpette · 30/04/2005 04:02

Hi. I think I waited for about 8 months for an appointment.

White Witch up to her eyes at moment as she has had a baby and had placenta preavia and was on the danger list, so wrong time to put pressure on her at the moment to do readings.

As you can see I can't sleep again!

dizzy36 · 29/04/2005 21:00

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. It all sounds very complicated.(I am using BUPA hospital by the way). Flumpette like you I had a gut feeling something was wrong with me but because it took a yr to conceive last pg didn't take any action until a yr after trying this time. Dr was very vague about tubal damage and the likelihood of having IVF but I have been reading up and was disappointed to learn that if one is damaged then the other is likely to be as well. Am still hoping though that I have one good tube to work with! Can I ask flumpette how long you had to wait for your lap on the NHS, I am 37 next month and don't want to wait yrs for lap then for ivf.

Can I be cheeky and ask if your white witch friend does general 'readings' or just for friends. I don't think its silly at all. I have spoken to a couple of psychics! all said would have fertility probs and most said would conceive soon naturally but others said not, all said I would have another child at some point. Needless to say I don't take it all to heart

Flumpette · 29/04/2005 19:34

Hi. Well, half way through for me and I'm keeping positive.

Yes I also have tubal damage and I just had a huge gut feeling that something was wrong so I told a fib to my GP and said I'd been trying over 2 years. I waited for a laporoscopy and by the time the appointment came it was more than 2 years since we'd been ttc. (learning the abbrevs. now!)

My tubes are scarred/blocked and I was told I had a 1% chance of conceiving.

Dizzy (I had IVF in 2003 and on our 1st attempt we fell pregnant and we have a beautiful 13 month old son). For the record I am 39 this year.

My clinic put me on the pill for 14 days and on day 15 I had a scan to see if my womb lining was ready to begin treatment.

I then injected a drug called Suprecur to shut down my ovaries (ie. menopausal symptoms). I think this was for about 8 days and then I began to inject Menopur aswell which is the drug to super-ovulate (sorry don't know doses off top of my head). 15 days later I had another scan to check the size of my follices (potentially these house the eggs but on egg collection there may not be an egg in each follice). They have to be at least 18mm before they'll do egg collection. 3 days later I had another scan to see if they were any bigger and 3 days later my eggs were collected.

Then 2 days later the embryos were transferred. (haven't gone into detail of fertilisation etc. as it's in messages below). So at our clinic it's not every 2 days. We are at a private hospital but we had things like a sperm test and HIV/Hep B&C (these two are mandatory requirements - and so they should be), done at our local hospital so that we didn't have to pay privately). Advice is to do as much of that as you can to save £££.

Pruni - after egg collection I was sore and starving! I did take a pad with me but I didn't bleed much, just a little bit of brown blood and a smell of iodine which I believe they sterilise equipment with.

Today first real day that I can't feel the soreness from egg collection.

One thing that I didn't realise is that after treatment one has cysts and last time I had a 28mm and a 32mm cyst. They disperse and are nothing to worry about, but I wasn't expecting that.

Lastly (now you'll think I'm crazy). I was introduced to a 'white witch' in 2003 who I had to send a photo to and a lock of hair and a letter with as little or much info. about me as possible.

She did a spell and told me that she knew the IVF would work first time. I spoke to her today and she will do a spell this weekend and again she said that we will be pregnant this time!

Sounds really silly I know but last time we had the results so I had to try again. She is a friend's sister-in-law and I knew that she had predicted who would and wouldn't have a baby in their circle of friends.

The things we do!! Praying and thinking of you all and it's great that you are thinking of me as that gives me the 'warm fuzzies'.

Flumpette
If you are around I wonder could you answer a couple of question for me. What drug dose were you on. I start with 6 days of 200iu of Puregon, 2 days of 150iu of Puregon and then 2 days of 100iu of Puregon and then a scan to see how the eggs are developing. Also after egg collection did you bleed alot. Do you need to take a pad or pant liner along with you the morning of egg collection. I know I am away ahead of myself and should just take each day as it comes but I have so many questions that just appear out of no where. Hope you are keeping well and that the 2ww isn't getting to you too much.

Dizzy - I have only to go for one scan on the 31st of May and then egg collection scheduled for the 2nd June. If eggs not big enough may put me on another day or twos injections. I thought I would have to go at least every other day but seems not. Maybe different clinics have different protocols. Maybe Flumpette or some of the others who have been through IVF can help you out

dizzy36 · 29/04/2005 16:50

hello everyone, I hope you don't mind me joining this thread. I am not at the stage that some of you are in that I have only this week found out that have possible tubal damage which could result in IVF treatment. Have been reading up on it and would be grateful if anyone could clarify how long the procedure takes from the the 1st apptment to the last - I have read that for egg collection have to go everyday for two weeks to see when eggs ready for retreival - is this right. Also, can I ask if any of you have had (or are having) ivf treatment due to tubal damage and if so what investigations/treatments did you have prior to going for the ivf. You'll have to excuse me if you see my name on a few threads, I know I am getting carried away and asking a lot of questions all over the place - was ttc for 3 years before got this news and need a little reassurance. thanks

bubbly1973 · 28/04/2005 09:27

flumpette, was thinking about you last night and was going to post to see how you are getting on...

wouldnt it be great if someone could put you in a time machine that whizzed you past the two week wait!!!

good luck and i prayed for you, and have my fingers crossed that you are pregnant!!! xxx
