Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

You're certainly welcome, though you might get an unbalanced answer here. We all seem to be of the cautious and waiting variety.

I have to admit if I was in your position I'd want to wait a few more months...but then I'm waiting till August in the hopes of a spring baby. (Wow that sounds weird to 'say' out loud.)

I'm not trying to assume anything here, but it's not like trying now will increase your chances of concieving later. So I'm not totally sure it really affects your chances.

(A friend of a friend apparently heard it could take 12-18 months to get pregnant, so started trying before the wedding. Of course this means that she ended up pregnant before the wedding which wasn't so good.)

lexilou · 18/03/2009 13:46

Hi, can I join in?

I miscarried 4 weeks ago, it was a complete surprise 4th pregnancy but a very happy surprise. We had talked about having a 4th but due to DP working away all week for the next two years and me working weekends when he is home and doing a degree we decided we may have a bit much on at the mo....

However having been pregnant I am now desperate to be pregnant again despite all the obstacles, but I think I need a few months to feel physically back to normal and common sense says wait to ttc til Aug time as at earliest would be due May which is when my degree finishes and finishing it then will be a darn sight easier than finishing it with a toddler and baby.

We are not being hugely careful, DP really is throwing caution to the wind (most unlike him) but as he is away all week and I am working when he is home, opportunity to conceive is a little limited!

My head says we should be careful and wait til Aug, as it would be sooo much easier but my heart is not singing from the same hymn sheet. I have always conceived easily in the past (the last preg I conceived at 8 dpo - freaky)so really we should be much more careful but part of me thinks we should make the most of our limited opportunities.

Sorry for the waffle, thinking aloud...wise words anyone?

Welcome spacecadet and hi Hobnob

WorrisomeHeart, everything we do is related to baby too. DH and I work together self-employed and contracts that are coming in for later in the year, we're thinking I could be 4/5/6 months gone by then - like you with Christmas. Oh and I'm really appreciating lay-ins at the moment as I know from other threads these will be few and far between after a baby arrives!

WorrisomeHeart · 17/03/2009 19:04

Hi spacedcadet and welcome!

Loving the sound of your holiday (did you sneakily book it to coincide with OV )

My DH is being scarily ok with all the pre-TTC craziness I am inflicting on him. To me, that shows how keen he is too - nice to know he's broody too! I know what you mean though, it's my main track of thoughts at the mo and it seems like everything needs to be related back to baby - my mum was talking about Xmas the other day (crazy family) and I was thinking to myself, ooh I could be 6 months by then, DH will have to cook the turkey... hee hee!

Hope you are all having a good week!

spacecadet99 · 17/03/2009 15:35

I'm a mumsnet newbie, can I join your thread? Been married 2 years and we always agreed that we would start TTCing around now. I'm currently on a uni course which finishes in June so we are going to start after the final exam, in fact we have a Caribbean holiday booked for early July to celebrate starting our journey! Of course now we have agreed to start soon it's all I can think about and my husband has banned me from talking about it as it's freaking him out . But I'm sure he'll get there in the end. I'm taking standard multivits at the moment but there's only a couple of weeks left so I'm off to buy some pronatal vits at the weekend which will make it all feel a bit more real!

Hobnob76 · 17/03/2009 12:23

Wow! You've all been chatting loads, haven'ty managed to get on and catch up this week, sorry!

Welcome to HoumousMonster and Worrisomeheart!

I've been hiding things too, hid the folic acid tablets that I bought, we don't want anyone in RL to know when we'll be TTC either, can't be doing with the pressure.

4thtimelucky how exciting! Can't believe one of us is already TTC, hope you get some good news very soon then! I'm worried that as soon as I come off the pill (we are supposed to be careful for a few months, in our words, from July to about Nove time, to see if periods come back after pill)we'll think sod it to the condoms too!

HoumousMonster · 17/03/2009 10:22

Worrisomeheart - I forgot about the books! I bought those ages ago but haven't been in the mood to read them. I opted for hiding them in my knicker drawer as I can't imagine any visitors digging through there!

I suspect I'm overly paranoid. Though my Mum isn't nosey, she loves organising and tidying things so gets into everything. Luckily she lives 3,000 miles away now, but after years of living with her it's second nature to be super careful.

Claire - I agree Mumsnet is a brilliant place to let out all that building excitement! It's so difficult trying to come up with excuses for why we really need to buy a new car very soon and why we want to remodel the smallest bedroom first. (We aren't making a nursery yet, but it needs artex to come off and a new window. Right now it looks like you greatgrandmother's house so we may as well tidy things up.)

claireinthecommunity · 16/03/2009 23:03

That's a good idea Medee, I don't know why I hadn't thought about buying meds online I do with most other things!!

WorrisomeHeart · 16/03/2009 19:22

Thanks for the warm welcome folks!

HoumousMonster - thanks for the boost re your wedding guest at 5months preg. That's the latest we figure is safe to fly - that's also because we're there for nearly a month, so potentially I could get there but not back!!! I have told sis though, and the bridesmaids dress just happens to be a floaty empire line number (hee hee cleverly chosen to hide all manner of sins!)

Totally know what you mean about hiding things. We are super careful to put the pregnacare away in a cupboard when the IL's are over - so don't want to open that kettle of fish. Plus, I have bought a couple of books/OVP kit's which I am looking longingly at, but have kind of hidden them under the bedside table. Lol at WTTTC craziness!!

Medee · 16/03/2009 17:18

Glad to hear your son isn't a Mile High baby!

I bought the folic acid etc from Healthspan, so arrived nice and anonymously. I'll keep my last pill packet (even if empty) as a decoy on my bedside table for visiting relatives!

ABetaDad · 16/03/2009 16:45

Medee - DS2 was conceived on a long haul London - Tokyo flight.

Before you ask - we had sex the night before the flight. The egg and sperm probably fused on the flight out and probably implanted on the way home. So that part of the process is definitely unaffected.

claireinthecommunity · 16/03/2009 16:23

Yeah I know what you mean, one of the girls that works in the chemist in my nearest town, also works part-time in the pub next door to where we live, so I won't be getting any folic acid or pre-pregnancy tablets from there! I'll go into one of the larger nearby cities. It's not so much people knowing we'd like to have children (some people know I've been broody), I just don't want to be questioned on it all the time IYKWIM? I'd rather announce that we are expecting rather than we are trying.

I'm quite a private person in RL but it is nice to be able to talk about such an exciting process on here, I'm glad I've found Mumsnet

HoumousMonster · 16/03/2009 12:20

Is anyone else feel like they are going to silly lengths to hide things?

We just bought a fertility thermometer and Pregnacare tablets. We're being super careful to make sure all the boxes have been buried in the bin and I've popped two weeks worth of tablets out of the blister cards.

Considering you aren't supposed to tell people till you are three months along, you'd think the tablet makers would make the packaging a bit more subtle! They've the name in huge letters across the foil and in case you couldn't guess it then says they are for use when conceiving, pregnant & breast feeding.

I feel ridiculous, but our cardboard recycling can be around for weeks and we don't want friends and family getting any ideas!

claireinthecommunity · 16/03/2009 11:01

Ooh 4thtimelucky, you're the first one of us to buckle under the pressure that is extreme broodiness! , keep us posted

And I your holiday, sounds as though you enjoyed it

claireinthecommunity · 16/03/2009 10:46

HoumousMonster, my appointment is Thursday too! Will report back in the evening

4thtimelucky · 16/03/2009 10:44

Me and the lovely OH have just got back from a weeks holidays

Along with WorrisomeHeart, I know that the temptation of not using condoms is there - so much so, we failed miserably (happily?!)yesterday morning which worked out to day 14 - 16 of my usual 28/29 day cycle. Not sure how the coil coming out will affect this or not but I am now counting down the days until the last weekend of this month....

HoumousMonster · 16/03/2009 09:18

Claire

I hope your medication review goes well. I've a blood test on Thursday too, just to check my iron levels and then I'll start the pre-pregnancy tablets.

I was on the depo injection, but that can take 18 months to clear your system so I stopped it just after we got married. (And my husband wonders why I get a bit batty about it when we've been planning it this long!)

WorrisomeHeart - I don't know if it helps, but one of my wedding guests flew from the states at 5 months pregnant. She certainly seemed to cope all right. (She was just starting to show though which might set the Bridezilla off!)

claireinthecommunity · 16/03/2009 00:06

HoumousMonter, no need to be

I too don't have any family (well none that would be helpful or supportive when we have a child!), my husband has little family but there are one or two whom we think will be great when we have a baby. It's good that you will have the support of your husbands family

I hope the treatment for your other kidney stone goes well this week. I have a medication review with my GP this week and am hoping to decrease the dose of the tablets I'm on, I'll also talk about folic acid suppliments and other pre-pregnancy tablets whilst Im there.

Welcome WorrisomeHeart, lol at angry bridezilla! My DH and I decided for me to continue taking the pill until we are ready to start TTC, and then just see what happens. I started on my 3rd pack to go today IYSWIM? Only 3 months to go - sometimes this really excites me, sometimes it scares me!!!

WorrisomeHeart · 15/03/2009 17:07

Hi folks, can I join? We are waiting to TTC - planning to get started in July, and I am finding it so difficult to wait that long! Long story short, am bridesmaid for my sis at the end of the year, and it's a long haul flight, so wanted to time it so that I would be at most 5 mths. Crazy to plan that closely I know, and chances are it will take ages!! Could be TMI, but we are using condoms and it's so tempting to just say 'let's forget them tonihgt...' think I would have a v angry bridezilla on my trail though!!

HoumousMonster · 15/03/2009 13:16

Sorry, that was a bit TMI and long winded. I mixed up which thread I was in.

HoumousMonster · 15/03/2009 09:49

Yeah, I've waffled back and forth about kids. Having them shouldn't be a problem; it's taking care of them that has me worried. My husband is fabulous though and we think his family would be quite supportive. (I don't really have any family.)

At the moment I'm struggling with the lithotripsy for the kidney stones for the most part. I've been feeling battered and bruised for two months now. They shattered a stone in January but because of the fibromyalgia my kidney is slow to heal. I get the stone on the other side treated again this week. If I'm lucky and it breaks I can probably expect another few horrible months.

One reason we want to TTC this year is that they don't know why I get kidney stones. Kidney stones make you a high risk pregnancy due to UTIs, so it seems to make sense for us to try as soon as the stones are gone and before I get any new ones.

I'm starting to take pre-natal vitamins and basal temperatures next week, but it will be a month or so before I can really start exercising. I could do with losing a few pounds too so it’s really frustrating that I can’t do anything thing about it. I have changed my diet & sleep patterns in an attempt to control different aspects of my condition, and even that’s been exhausting.

I keep telling myself to take things slow so I don’t buckle under it all, but the months are just running away from me. We really need to try for a spring/summer baby as it could take me two to three times longer to recover from giving birth than normal people, and winter is more difficult as it is.

Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on quite so much. Ironically despite all these problems I look perfectly fine and people rarely realise anything is wrong with me, which can also make things harder.

claireinthecommunity · 14/03/2009 18:20

Welcome HoumousMonster,

I have also been broody for the last couple of years and have had times when I have felt no interest at all. For me it took a long time to decide whether or not to go down the having children root and after deciding with my husband that that was something we wanted in our life, it has become a waiting game.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time at the moment. My difficult time was last September when I needed to start taking some medication that was unsuitable if TTC. There was no timescale to how long I would need to be on them for, so we weren't able to plan at all. We're gradually reducing the dose with a view to being ok to start TTC in June

I've also started a fitness class and cut down on my alcohol intake, It's made a difference and I feel that I'm working towards TTC already.

Hope you start to feel much better soon

HoumousMonster · 13/03/2009 22:08

I'm new to mumsnet, but I'm also playing the waiting game. We are planning TTC in July/August. We are keeping it a secret, but people are often asking us when we are going to have kids.

While I should have no specific problem conceiving, my health is rather rubbish so I've been working on a huge plan to better manage my condition before getting pregnant.

I'm finding it really difficult at the moment. While I've been desperately broody for the last couple of years, I think I hit bottom in January. Since then I just have no interest in babies at all.

So I'm still working on my plan and I'm hoping that when I feel a bit better I'll start feeling broody again. It's just very difficult without a goal to work towards.

Medee · 08/03/2009 18:09

think of all those honeymoon babies that are flown back long haul

excellent point!

I managed to resist revealing anything to my BM this weekend, other than possibly knowing a little too much about pregnancy when I knew the phrase VBAC! Think I covered it up, as I am known for knowing a lot of random trivia!

claireinthecommunity · 07/03/2009 16:29

Hello everyone, I've taken the last pill in this strip today, only three more packs to go!

Dh had a dream last night that we had a two week old baby! I've had many baby dreams since I've been broody but this is his first
