Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

Kaylo - that was my plan last night but Zzzzzzzzz

Kaylo · 04/08/2009 09:40

CurlyCasper · 04/08/2009 09:26

kaylo you say "there was no point" but surely if ov has passed there's no harm in have some unprotected fun? I think there's every point in doing that and you're right, it's neither here nor there... enjoy!

Kaylo · 04/08/2009 09:21

Morning all

medee can't believe AF still isn't here! Hope she comes soon!
Oh, and note to self .... BUY AND START TAKING FOLIC ACID!!!!

I know I'm up to date with my vaccinations as had them all done last year so am covered on that front.

I'm desperate to get started now - really starting to lose patience. Found myself contemplating how best to convince dh to start now and that a couple of weeks early is neither here nor there! Then realised that ov has passed and there really was no point lol Will have to learn to wait - not long now!

Have a good Tuesday ladies

CurlyCasper · 04/08/2009 09:20

Thanks OLS. Actually my doctor was a bit lost! I had never seen this one before and I went along because I had to come off arthritis meds. He confessed he was no expert in that area, but did look up various bits of info for me. He advised to take folic acid and checked that I had come off the pill too (and - shock - advised me to used condoms in the meantime!). Then asked if I knew if i was immune to rubella and said "well I suppose we could check for that and run some other bloods too".

Seemed to me he was just looking for things to do seeing as I had made the appointment! Even so, I am glad I went along.

Having now sneaked a peek at Emma's diary online, it says you should have a preconception appointment and this is one of the things they will check.

Welcome buns and big balloons to Princesslily, PigglyChez, Hollyoaks, Norkybutnice and AddictedtoCrunchies! Hobnob I was wondering about trying to lose weight too - Joined some of the threads here on MN hoping they'll help. 10 portions of fruit and veg anyone? I can just about manage five at a push...

CurlyCasper Genius on the Rubella front, booking that pre-pregnancy appointment obviously worked for you - I'm guessing you have an amazing doctor - did they give you any other advice?

Hollyoaks · 04/08/2009 07:14

medee I had a similar experience when I came off the pill when ttc my dd. It took quite a while before I got my first af after being on the pill for about 8 years. Lots of plike symptoms though inbetween and no idea whether to test or not. Hope you not waiting too long.

CurlyCasper · 03/08/2009 21:34

Evening all,

on the rubella front, I have started a new thread, with an NHS link, to get us all genned up, it's here

medee poor you, what CD are you on now? I found myself desperate for AF to come last month - arrived at day 34. Hope it works out for you soon.

Have a good night everyone x

AddictedtoCrunchies · 03/08/2009 20:56

Thank you all for your warm welcome.

I like to ready the whole thread so I don't ask anything that's already been asked.

Hollyoaks - that would be good to have a pal going through the motions (so to speak) at the same time! We could have a big celebratory Christmas do!

PrincessLilly · 03/08/2009 20:09

Thanks for the warm welcome and great advice. I hadn't even thought about vaccinations. I only seem to think about all the cute outfits and fancy pushchairs I see mum's parading their LO in. I must live in Nappy Valley- there are babies at every corner- and they're all super cute!!!! I want one!

Medee · 03/08/2009 19:43

welcome to all the new recruits. I started taking folic acid around 3 months before I knew I would come off the pill - it will turn out to be 5 months before starting to TTC at this rate (yes, still no period!)

I asked my nurse at my last smear about my vaccincations and she went awful vague and said she would have to check my paper records (as it wasn't on the computer) and call me if there were any lacking. I'm going to assume it is oK as she didn't call, and I do know I had all the right stuff at the right times.

Hollyoaks · 03/08/2009 17:34

Addicted - my dd has just turned 18mo at the end of July, looks like we'll have a similar age gap (provided all goes well).

Kaylo · 03/08/2009 16:21

Wow, crunchies - you really read the whole thread? You must have patience beyond compare to do that I know I definitely don't!

Hoping you've all had a good Monday

Hobnob76 · 03/08/2009 14:53

Hi and welcome AddictedtoCrunchies shakes Crunchie's hand to say well done for reading the whole thread!

There are a few of us on here hoping to start TTC around christmas time. I don't really know much about ovulating and cycles either, have picked a bit up on here. I only came off the pill last month so I'm watching and learning at the mo. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 03/08/2009 12:30

Would it be ok if I joined too?

DS is just 18 months and wasn't planned at all. Actually I'm still not sure when or how he was conceived but that's for another day.

DH has always wanted more than one but accepted that I only wanted one but on Friday he mentioned us having another and I thought 'why not?'

We're going to save like mad between now and Christmas and then ttc after that. But I'm 39 in a couple of weeks so don't know how easy it'll be but we won't know until we try.

I've just read through the whole thread (took ages!) and you seem a lovely bunch. I don't really know about ovulating and cycles and the like but thought I'd start monitoring mine a bit..when I've got a pattern I'll tell you all and then you can tell me when I should be grabbing DH and dragging him off to the bedroom..

Anywa, hope you don't mind me tagging along.

CurlyCasper · 03/08/2009 12:29

No time for big replies, so welcome all.

First-timers: see GP about your rubella immunity. Turns out school injection does not leave us all protected for life and you may have to have a booster - and should should not get PG while vaccine live virus is still in your system. they do a blood test to check. I've recently had mine and been recalled to see GP...

Catch up later! x

NorkyButNice · 03/08/2009 11:54

lovely to "meet" you all!

Hollyoaks · 03/08/2009 11:40

That reminds me to get some folic acid, not very prepared

Hobnob76 · 03/08/2009 11:35

MrsPigeon and Medee thanks for you lovely replies. No I don't believe I'm stupid, you're right, that is much more offensive isn't it ?

Hi and welcome NorkyButNice! Not long to wait then!

PrincessLilly Hi and welcome. I started taking folic acid before I came off the pill in June (in case we have a little accident). We're going to be TTC in Nov/Dec time. I've read that you should take folic acid 3 months before you plan to TTC.

pigleychez sounds like your DD had a lovely 1st birthday! And yes I will ignore the crap that comes out of some children's mouths from now on!

Kaylo I'm feeling much better how thanks I'm with you on the Asda buying, I love the baby clothes in there. Ooh not long now!

Hollyoaks Hi and welcome! Another one with not much time to wait!

OP posts:
Kaylo · 03/08/2009 11:15

I'm with you on the excitement - I cannot wait - have repeatedly had to restrain myself from the baby section at ASDA. Which is where I intend to get my baby things from as so cheap and wonderful...

2wks and 3days to go.....[grins impatiently]

MrsPigeon · 03/08/2009 11:00

[smiles proudly that we have already created thread too long to read]

welcome Hollyoaks!

Hollyoaks · 03/08/2009 10:49

Its so exciting, my sister is pg so really broody. Also really anxious and nervous about going through the whole pg and labour thing again. But its worth it in the end

Kaylo · 03/08/2009 10:40

Hi Hollyoaks Welcome to the thread

We're starting at around the same time, so maybe testing at around the same time?

xxx

Hollyoaks · 03/08/2009 10:35

Hi ladies.

Hope I can join though haven't got a massive wait like some of you. I have an 18mo dd and my husband and I have decided to ttc in three weeks so I wont be early pg when we go on holiday.

Sorry I havent read most of the thread apart from the first couple of pages as its too long.

Kaylo · 03/08/2009 10:30

durrrrr.....end of page 16 and didn't read page 17.

What's wrong with me
