Hi everyone! Hubby and I are desperately broody and have been for a few years. We're hoping to TTC later this year, we're having to wait til Hubby finishes his degree as we just can't afford to have a baby whilst he's a student. Am wanting to come off the pill round about May, and hopefully TTC about Nov/Dec. Want to come off the pill a few months early as I've been on it for over 14 yrs, and would like to know what its like to have normal periods!

Be nice to know if anyone else is in a similar situation.

Welcome legally blonde and Ocarina. Its great to have so many people to chat to especially when in real life mosts of us are trying to keep it to ourselves so have only partners to talk to about it and they seem to not want to talk about it as much as we do!
Good Luck Floopy21 with the giving up smoking-at least you have something you really want to try and motivate you. I am sure it will still be tricky at times but well worth it. I am trying to be good with alcohol just cutting down particularly in the week. I don't drink hot drinks but really should try and cut down on the diet coke. I don't think there is any point cutting anything out completly at the moment as still a few months till we start ttc and still after that it could take months! Think I will start on the folic acid when I come off my pill in jan though so its in my system plus if we have any accidents then we know we are covered.
Good that you have had your rebella tested Ocarina-that is on my list to do doc said to come in a few months before we start trying to check I have all my jabs. I have a couple of days off next week so going to try and get an appointment then. Dh is starting to talk about it more now and I even heard him discussing it with his best friend so think he must be pretty excited too!

Ocarina · 12/11/2009 16:08

Hi there, can I join you?

There's so much on this thread I can relate to, not least the being surrounded by babies/pregnant people. I've found that really hard at times, but it got a bit easier once I had the conversation with dh about when we might ttc.

So the plan is to ditch the pills at the end of the year and see what happens (1 1/2 packs to go.... So tempting to just ditch them now!). I hadn't even thought about all the temperature/ovulation stuff till I started reading things here - I think I'll try and resist the temptation to get sucked in cos then I'd just get hopelessly obsessed and would never think about anything else. Obviously in an ideal world I'd be pregnant at the first attempt but I know that's unlikely (not sure dh has clocked that though!) so if things take a while I'll probably start looking at temps etc.

They tested my rubella immunity when doing something else earlier in the year, and I've started taking folic acid (must remember to hide it - in laws visiting at the weekend). Anything else I should be thinking about? Gave into temptation and ordered a book the other day - it's starting to feel like a real possibility rather than a vague 'maybe someday'.

I'm determined to tell no-one, so it's really good to have found you all!

Floopy21 · 12/11/2009 14:02

Florin, I think my pill runs out mid jan, so I think I'll start taking folic acid after that - begining of Feb? I think the optimum is three months dosage, although I think some of that counts in early pregnancy too. I doubt very much I'll be knocked up within a week of trying though

Hi Tif, nice to meet you

Hi Legally - January will be here before you know it! & it sounds like you're already cycling like a dream I plan to cut down on alcohol when TTC & make sure I do some form of exercise. I had a belly dancing teacher with three children & not a stretch mark on her, she was convinced it was because her skin was used to stretching & being used (typing whilst sitting at a compter desk eating biscuits at the mo, so have a little way to go!!) I also have a BIG thing to give up. Smoking. It's happening on Monday. I'm scared and excited about it. Positive giving-up vibes please peeps!

Weird, it already feels like my body isn't kinda mine anymore, already preparing for being a vessel. In a very good way.

legallyblond · 12/11/2009 11:53

Hi ladies

I hope you don't mind if I join...

I am 27, married and am "getting ready" to TTC... The plan for now is to start TTC in January. Kinda lots of reasons for waiting for a couple of months. One is that it gives dh a chance to loose a little bit of the fear. He's really keen but has flashes of "oh my gosh...!" Also, I am a lawyer and its better (for all sorts of boring reasons like maternity pay etc) for me to be one year qualified when I have a baby.. I qualified in Sept, so anytime after that is fine!

No-one around me is anywhere near thinking babies... my friends all seem to think I am crazy young and work buddies....? saying I want a baby at work would be like dropping a nuclear bomb! So its nice to chat to others who are actually excited about the whole thing!

I am kinda lucky as I am not on the pill (I tried it when I was first with dh, about 6 years ago, and it really really disagreed with me!) so I already feel like I know my body and my cycles pretty well... I don't smoke and I have just started taking folic acid... are any of you guys quitting alcohol or caffeine in advance of TTC, to sort of "prep"? I am not sure I can do without my coffee! And so many work and client functions mean that not drinking would certainly raise a few "knowing" eyebrows with the partners at my firm, so I'm not sure what to do....

Oh, and one more thing, Kawaiiko, I understand a bit some of the stuff you say in your posts... I had anorexia then bulimia for many years as a teenager, but as its pretty much ancient history now, I hope it won't be a problem... I honestly don't even reslly think about it now. I had a few years, as a teenager, without af... but have had it like clockwork now for about 6 years. Actually, just recently, a girl who was in hospital with me (although she's older, 34) has had a baby...! Whoop!

Anyway, back to the point of the thread... Don't you all find its just so hard to be patient and not get started TTC straight away?! Imagine how much worse it will be when we start and are waiting for the positive test.... eek!

x

Floopy21 u really made me laugh! so with you about the thought of describing mucus! Yuck! Worked out my pills (having such a dull day at work has given me something to do) and think I am going to take another 2 packs of pills which brings me up to mid jan then will stop taking it and then try and concieve from April onwards. So a few months for my body to try sort itself out! When are u planning to start taking folic acid?

Jaimy · 11/11/2009 13:15

Thanks Floopy21, I am trying buts its so hard... especially with so many babies and babies on the way around me. It is a constant reminder of what I lost.

Floopy21 · 11/11/2009 12:31

Oh Jaimy, sorry the journey's difficult for you. I'm not at all knowledgeable about these things, but have heard that when some people have been able to be more relaxed about TTC, their fertililty has improved...not sure how you reach the relaxed stage though!

Thanks for the advice about establishing you cycles Casper, think I'm going to give it 3 months 'clear' before TTC, & folic myself up.

Florin: It's not the temp charts that scare me, it's having to describe my 'mucus' - what a horrid word!! mucus

Jaimy · 10/11/2009 14:25

Sorry to hear your news Morosky.

I had mmc on aug 15th and have been desperately TTC but no luck. It is so hard, and upsetting, as my sis-in-law announced her pregnancy a week after my MMC, sensitive I know. Everything around me is baby orientated and I just want my own baby. I am upset just writing this but I need to hear from someone who understands.
I find myself impatiently waiting for my period to come and get upset when it does come. Are there any special things I should do in order to conceive, find the optimal time. I have been using the ovulation testing kits but they are not working for me and then I get fed up with them as they never show a positive. It is making me an emotional wreck.

bebejones · 10/11/2009 13:48

Morosky - so so sorry to hear your news

Looks like there will be a few of us TTC around May time, so excited I just don't know how I am going to last that long! Had to really twist DH's arm to even consider TTC next year! But now I think he is quite looking forward to it!

Have signed up to the fertility friend but not going to start charting full on til nearer the time!

Florin · 10/11/2009 12:52

Sorry to hear your news morosky

LittleB · 10/11/2009 12:23

Hello all.
Sorry to hear your news morosky ((hugs)) to you.
I've now heard from the hospital and they are doing LLETZ treatment next week. I'll be a bit uncomfortable for a few days, and have to take it easy for a few weeks, no sex for 4 weeks, and no TTC for 6 weeks. I am quite worried about the treatment and recovery, I need to keep a careful eye out for infections, which could leave me infertile, but are fairly unlikely, but its good to get the treatment done.
We may now ttc from April/May if everything goes to plan as that gives my cervix plenty of time to recover, and I want to make sure I get dd's (4.6) school holidays as maternity leave!
I think I will come off the pill and start ttc straight away - due to that possible fertility peak and the fact that I've always been very regular, and I don't want to get pregnant earlier, for dd.
I don't think I'll use the charts at first, I know DH would rather be ttc most of the time, rather than just for a couple of days each month!

Florin · 09/11/2009 23:05

Have to admit the temp charts really scare me but no doubt I will be doing it anything to give me a better chance. I'm so desperate to get started! thanks for the tip have bookmarked the fertility website for when I stop taking the pill

Morosky · 09/11/2009 22:03

It was not good news so I am feeling upset and am trying to submerge myself in work to deal with it.

I am going to take a little break from this thread, will probably be back next month.

Pidgin · 09/11/2009 19:14

Morosky - hope you are doing OK.

CurlyCasper · 09/11/2009 19:07

Have fun then and see you in the New Year!

Pidgin · 09/11/2009 19:00

I would be there from nowish except DH decided he could not face festive period with me sober - fair enough. So am just waiting for my annual guzzling of sweet sherry to pass and then it's all systems go. See you then!

kawaiiko · 09/11/2009 18:58

Evening all,

Morosky I'm sorry to hear you're not having a good time, are you ok today?

OLS sorry if that sounded like I'd got the violins out and was wallowing a bit...I'm just aware that for me food has been and still is a real issue for me so I need to keep an eye on that - on the plus side a few years ago I seriously wondered if I was ever going to be physically and mentally strong enough to think about ttc and now here I am taking folic acid supplements!

I am staying away from temps and charts etc as dh and I have agreed that instead of 'officially ttc' we are instead 'officially stopping trying not to conceive'. It works for both of us cos that way I won't get too obsessive too early on, and he has time to get used to the idea (he's mostly keen but sometimes I see the spark of fear in his eyes! )

CurlyCasper · 09/11/2009 18:57

That was me this month pidg! Hope you can come and play in Jan - it's a fun thread.

Pidgin · 09/11/2009 18:29

Hi Casper! Nice to hear from you. I'm charting like a crazy woman and have found FF invaluable - cycles still a bit weird but had a nice biphasic chart last month, hoping that's not a one-off! Felt like telling everyone in a loud voice 'Guess what, I ovulated!', but still had enough grip on sanity to resist.

Hope all's going well with you - might join you on 30s TTC in Jan...

(Mrs P)

CurlyCasper · 09/11/2009 17:17

Hi all, gosh you went quiet for a while!
Just thought I'd pop my head in an see how you are. Still TTC here - it doesn't happen that quickly!

I'd second anyone planning to come off the pill well before TTC and start tracking their cycles with temps/CM etc. I came off the pill end of June and it's taken ages for my charts make any sort of sense so we can try on the right days.

With hindsight, I would have kept a diary of what symptoms I normally experienced before period due etc, so they didn't get confused with PG symptoms now and get my hopes up only for them to be dashed!

Check out Fertility Friend for a free online temperature charting tool and cycle tracking lessons(there is a paid-for VIP service but you don't need it, especially early on).

Good luck all and take care x

Floopy21 · 09/11/2009 15:44

I think I might copy you Florin RE: coming off the pill. I've enough to last until then, & it seems silly getting more as I'm chomping at the bit so to speak! Although I quite liked the sound of that fertility spike when you just come off it Really good idea to childmind, good luck with the course.

Florin · 09/11/2009 12:52

Morosky- I really hope everything ok, thinking of u.

Floopy21- really excited to have someone to wait with! I was lurking for a bit till dh made his decision and now he seems really excited too which is nice. I am planning on coming off the pill at the beginning of jan then using condoms till April. Hopefully by then my cycle will have sorted itself out.

Told my parents Last night after having to wait for ages for my twin sister to leave as don't want to tell her yet as she has a real issue with me beig pregnant when I am her bridesmaid in July however even if I got pregnant straight away in April I wouldn't be showing by July anyway. My parents thought the having kids and childminding was a brilliant idea talking about it made it so much more real which made me so excited. I am signing up to do the childminding training get to register on a course in 2 weeks. Luckily my county pays for me to do training so hopefully all our plan will fall into place.

Floopy21 · 09/11/2009 10:36

Hi All, I have been lurking for a while now, hoping that DH's decision would mean I could properly join this thread & now here I am!!! TTC date is set for April, & I'm SO excited! Similar to Florin really, been on the pill for 14+ years, no idea what AF's going to be like. Would like to come off the pill earlier, but would also like to avoid a Nov/Dec/Jan baby if possible.

Morosky, I really hope everything's OK. Sending lots of positive vibes to you. MN's funny - you somehow feel strongly for people you don't even know. HUGS.

Morosky · 08/11/2009 22:36

Thanks, I am waiting for them to call me back.

I have miscarried a number of times before.

I do have an awful numb feeling.
