can alcohol effect FMU - how faint a line can you get?

I feel like a right idiot starting this, have name-changed mostly because I don't want to look like a fool.

I am, according to Fertility Friend, 13DPO. Though this is based only on EWCM as I didn't monitor anything else this month so I am guessing ovulation could have been as much as 2 days later than FF says. FF suggests that my test day is tomorrow. I am not late yet.

I tested about 4 days ago (I know, I know!) and got a definite negative but this morning I tested again (clear Blue but not Digital) and within seconds I got the very strong blue control line and then within the two minutes what I think is a very very faint line crossing through it.

Last night before I went to bed I drank a can of lager so was wondering, could alcohol affect the urine in so much that the line could be really faint, or even cause a false positive?

I know I should go and get another test and test again tomorrow but I am inclined to just wait and see if my period is late. I know that people say a line is a line but it was just so faint I think my eyes are just deceiving me because I want this so much.

I keep telling myself to not be so stupid but am just wondering how faint a line other people have got and still been pregnant.I have always assumed a line would be very obvious to the naked eye.

It was a bit like this and not an evaporation line as I read it within 2 minutes.

I am expecting that within hours of posting this my period will come. I have no other symptoms apart from a bad back and getting very hot at night(which I assumed was a sign my period is coming) ....
TIA

bringonthetrumpets · 20/02/2009 08:39

any new news?

Mum1369 · 19/02/2009 15:05

Sounds positive to me too - I had the same thing with all my pregnancies - tested REALLY early and was getting vvv faint positives - the line was so faint that it only came up in certain lights and was sure I was just convincing myself there was something there (now 3.6 and 1.7) - good luck - keeping everything double crossed !

tinseltot · 19/02/2009 13:23

Well with 2 tests with faint lines on so far - that does sound like good news. Will keep checking back for updates!

xx

oh my, no news. Period not shown up. I don't know why but I had the idea that the digital ones were less effective in the early stages? Is that wrong?

I am really going to try to hold out until Saturday morning and didn't save my pee from this morning so won't test tonight.

Thanks for going on this journey with me

Sorry -been lurking........any news ??

Dropdeadfred · 19/02/2009 10:52

why do you keep buying non-digitals? it ads to your confusion...just buy a CB digital...good luck!

bringonthetrumpets · 19/02/2009 10:44

any news, any news??

suwoo · 18/02/2009 21:32

I hate to keep being positive when it could be bad news, but it really does sound good. Make sure you save the morning wee in readiness- will make a big difference

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/02/2009 21:03

Tesco tests are very good, IMO. Hope it goes + for you though!

solighticanhardlyseeit · 18/02/2009 21:02

Just went to the shop and bought a clearblue non digital test. Can again see the faintest faintest line but not sure if I left it too long (longer than the 10 minutes) but my OH can see it too. Damn me for not waiting until tomorrow. If my period doesn't come tomorrow the I am going to have to buy another.

Sorry for obsessing about this but I have been trying so long.

Tesco own brand. My Boobs are really quite sore and no sign of my period.

Which test was it? The cheapo test sticks are the best IMO. Well wait another day or two and see what happens. Fingers crossed for you x

tinseltot · 18/02/2009 11:25

Sorry to hear that. I guess wait a few more days and see what happens (whether AF arrives). Fingers crossed that this is a very shy bfp!

Tested again this morning and was negative. Let that be a lesson to me

Any news yet????????

lauraloo09 · 17/02/2009 21:27

solighticanhardlyseeit I had a faint positive so faint on a first response I had to tilt test and really squint at it before I saw anything, kinda light the photo of the test you posted...I'm now 23 weeks pregnant.

Please let us know how your next test goes like others have said wait until first morning urine, always seems to give stronger more accurate results

tinseltot · 17/02/2009 21:10

Will cross fingers for your next try

xx

suwoo · 17/02/2009 20:50

You really need to do a test in the morning, with the strong wee- that could make a big difference. Have you got a test for in the morning? If not, save your wee and then buy one- its what I did this time (15 weeks now).

solighticanhardlyseeit · 17/02/2009 19:03

Ach - well.... just did a Tesco own brand test and no line so it's possible I am just a numpty.

will probably try again tomorrow but might hold out until period is very late or until it arrives.

There's always hope that it just needs FMU.
Obviously I dug the other test out of the bin and had a peek - a slightly darker line which is most likely an evaporation line and obviously I am discounting, but I live in hope.

I had a week of faint lines, so faint you could barely see them. Never did get a strong positive as gave up after a week and did a clearblue digital. I am now 27 weeks pg so yes a very very faint line can be positive!
