Hi all,

Thanks for all your advice. I will certainly look into the tax credits thing... But I'm starting to really worry about this now...

As none of us really know each other in RL, I hope you won't mind me going into a bit of detail about our situation. Because DH and I have only just bought our first house, with the way mortgages are, our mortgage and bills alone come to £2200 a month... Our joint income is too high at £53k to receive many tax credits (although I will give them a call ray and see what they can offer during my ML).

Either of us giving up work to care for our little Jelly is not feasible unfortunately, otherwise we would have to sell our house and go back into rented, not great at the age of 34 (that's the trouble with trying to get on the housing-ladder these days)... Luckily our childcare arrangements are sorted satisfactorily, my SIL is having our baby for 2 days a week and one of our best-friends is a registered childminder so is having her for two other days a week and my company is allowing me to work my full-time hours over four days. It helps having our little one securely with friends and family, who will happily take my sobbing phone-calls and assure me that she is fine. It is heart-breaking that I have to go back to work so soon but I think the decision is made slightly easier by the fact that I have no choice.

And believe me, it's nothing to do with my career because the sad thing is that I don't even LIKE my job. But down in the South-West, salaries are so low and mortgages so high, that I'm lucky to earn the money I do so I can't even change my job.

Anyway, I think I've waffled enough, but I hear about all the people who are lucky to be at home with their babies and I wonder whether all this will make me a bad Mum. I'm really worried about what people will think of me. DH and I have already agreed that our DD is going to have our attention for every minute that we're not at work because we already love her so much. I just wish life was different... I feel really sad now and DH is going to start asking what's wrong in a minute so I'd better go...

Evening all

Dawni I love your photos - what a good looking family you are. Can I just ask (and you don't have to answer) but what does your hubby do? Does he work for an emergency service by any chance? I think I might know him - or if not, there is someone who looks very similar, also called Jon, who is an amputee and does extra work for films who lives where you do!!

ray81 · 28/02/2009 19:22

DawnAS-some people can work up to the birth and I knew someone who went back after 2 weeks. I worked 4 days in a Bank and it was on your feet and rushing about type of work in the hottest summer for years and my feet and ankles swelled up so I was glad to leave 4 weeks before. Infact, was signed off for a month before I went back again to leave properly as had terrible sciatica. Before DD1 was born I was convinced I would be back when she was 5 months old but I ended up taking a year off and that was too soon. I never did go back after DD2. When you claim tax credits they don't take SMP into the calculation of your earnings so you should get quite a bit if DH's earnings are lower. You also get double for the 1st year of Jelly's life. I hope you can take more than 3 months off though.

Calling Willmouse-yoohoo, are you there and OK?

Also puree and LaDiDaDi and felinor1-where art thou?

We will not have people go missing!

ray-have you set your homepage up by clicking on Home Page Setup at the top of the page that your chart is on. On this page there are various boxes to tick and in the big blank box under Intro Message type ray's chart or similar. I put 'Dawni's chart' when I set her page up. When you have finished an http address will appear at the very top of the page under the heading Your Charting Homepage Web Address. This is what you use to create a link on here. Down the left hand side there is a purple menu and you can set info up here under settings. You get a trial VIP membership when you join and I paid to continue it as it gives you so much more than the standard. Sod's law occurred as I had just paid £30 something to renew it and got a BFP. Shout if you get stuck.

Dawnas, Your family sounds just like mine (almost) i am the oldest girl and i have 4 sisters and the one brother who is the oldest of us all. he is nearly 30 and still into all sorts of crap, getting drunk into fights basically acting like a 17yr old and very very selfish. He takes great pleaseure in telling me how great his life is and how boring mine is. Yeah like Whatever you say.
My sis that is next down from me is 22 and has just had a baby boy called Jack, she is incedibly selfish and wont do anything for anyone. my other sis is 20 and has the 3 Dcs and is also very selfish and only wants me when she needs something which ostly includes giving her lifts and looking after her kids and guess what i do it !!!
My others sisters are 16 and 8 so not too much trouble at the moment !!!

How are things with you sis at the moment ? anymore news?

When i had my DD i had 10days off before she arrived and felt that that was more than enough time infact i probably would have been alright with a week but that all depends how you feel.
I also got into contact with the Tax office and had tax credits, they were very good and actually made up my wages practicaly until i returned to work so thats worth a try.
What will you do with jelly when you work? word of warning my friend tried to work from home when her baby was 4 months and had the baby stay with he and it didnt qork at all she had to quit as she just couldnt do both at the same time. What does your DH do is there any chance he can get something better for the time that you are off or even get a second job. The problem is once Jelly is here you will not want to go back to worka nd i'm not kidding you realy wont so you may be abit resentful if you have to go back when the baby is so young.

God i'm sorry i do go on dont i i realy hope this helps.

DawnAS · 28/02/2009 18:10

Hi All,

Ray, scarily, your family sounds just like mine.... I've got three sisters and a brother. My elder sister, I am closest to. She can be a little selfish but only because she's so busy. She owns a pub/restaurant with her DH. But my two younger sisters are very very selfish and are real drama queens. One of them had two affairs before finally leaving her DH, they've got a 4 year old daughter. The other one, I'm sorry to say, is the one that's currently PG. She's the youngest one and we don't get on at all. The dramas just continue with her and she continues to cause a lot of problems for us as a family, due to her marrying a guy who already has two children with his own cousin!! I often think that pettiness is often based around jealousy and envy. It's upsetting though when you are always the one that seems to make the effort to keep the peace and you end up being penalised for it... I hope that things sort themselves out for you...

CE, how lovely that you get this time off before your little DC is born.

Dawni, once I've finished this, I'm going to have a browse through your photos!! Hope you're Ok today hun.

Juanitad, so have you tracked down MJIM yet? Hopefully she'll be back on later!!

Ceebee, bless little Josh!! How sweet!! Let's hope he doesn't come in at 4am when it gets towards the Summer!!

Big waves to everyone else!!

So, I need to ask, has anyone worked pretty much up to their due date? Unfortunately, my company only pays basic SMP so I get 6 weeks at 90% and then just the standard after that and as we've just bought our first house and I'm the main breadwinner, I can't finish any earlier than 10 days before my due date and I can only take 3 months off (although I may need to extend it to 4 if Jelly is late...). I'm getting a bit worried. BUT, I do work from home and sit down all day, so I only need to go down a flight of stairs to my office... Do you ladies think I'll be Ok with that? Not having done this before, I'm starting to get a bit worried that I may not cope. Not that I have a choice, financially we can't afford to save any more money to cover our mortgage.... eek...

Someone else missing did you say, ceebee? Right, I will use my stalker detective skills to track her down. MJIM you can't stay in hiding for long

Ceebee74 · 28/02/2009 12:59

Hi everyone

HC you know we will never agree on the Sawyer v Sayid debate Have watched 6 (I think) episodes of series 5 but it is competely messing with my mind!! Am a tad of you being without the girls all weekend - DH has just taken the boys to MIL's for the afternoon though so shouldn't complain!

CE I would steer clear of the piri-piri - you never know what effect it might have - unless you want Mini-eclair to put in an earlier appearance of course You are right - Sam is ever so cute which does make up for the grumpiness a little - I do think he is just a serious little boy! Seems a little happier today - he particularly likes it when Josh sits on him, crawls all over him or pulls him round on his baby gym

Detox 5.45 poor you - will you get a chance for a rest later?? Josh has always got up sometime after 6 - if it was just after 6, it was awful! But what we have found works it that once he is up, we let him come into our bed and don't switch the light on so at least we can doze whilst he is pissing about playing - and he does seem to lie there (I won't say 'still' cos he is the most fidgty wriggly little boy!) for upto 45 minutes until we decide it is time to get up.

Ray your sis is just being petty - there is a difference between a 4 year old going to an older child's birthday party than the other way round iyswim. When my niece turned 7 a few months ago, my sis had booked a 'pampering' party at a play area - lots of girly/hair things - not really suitable for a 2 year old boy. My sis explained and I was absolutely fine about it - as it turned out, my sis had to pay for 15 places regardless of how many she invited (she hadn't realised that) so we went anyway and Josh had a whale of a time!

Where is MJIM?? She will be so pleased to see CE back!!

Have to tell you this - it was so cute this morning! When Josh got up, he came into our bed at about 6.30 just as it was starting to get light and said to me 'mummy, my curtains have got a light on' - I think it is the first morning he has noticed it getting light outside - how sweet is that??

ray81 · 28/02/2009 12:54

HC, this is the thing with my family they always see it from their point of view and never try and understand it from others points of view. I can understand how it must has looked but it wasnt a nasty thing it realy wasnt and she knows i am not like that.
What also gets to me is that she was maoning to me the other week about my other sis SMACKING her children and she never said anything to her at all and here she is saying these things to me when its just a bloody party already.

HAve fun with your episodes of Lost must say i havent ever watched it.

Must go have to get missy from gym and go ice skating i'll let you all know if we end up with any brokern bones. He he.

HumphreysCorner · 28/02/2009 12:18

How petty is she being ray. Doesn't she understand it was a last minute arrangement and she must invite your DD. Can you ring her and ask what time you have to be there as DD is really looking forward to it. Nowt so queer as folk!

ChocEclair-I have just watched episode 1&2 of Lost season 5 and it just gets better. Sayid rules Ceebee The girls are coming back after tea on Sunday night so missing them already.

Dawni-everything crossed for you and it does look like FF got the right OV day.

Hey CE welcome back, i realy hope you enjoy the ML.I'm an avid fan of 24 and will sit there for hrs watching it so be prepared the get hooked. Are you and DP ok now you said you had a row i hope everything is ok.

Dawni have you had the book yet i've practically finished it and started Temping yesterday, yesterday it was 97.7 and today 97.8 so in the same band i have set up a FF account and will start charting on there before i start to forget what they were. I am being very impatient and cant wait to start Bding.
I must say that the Clomid is realy playing havoc with my moods and i keep getting hot flushes. I wanted to MURDER my DH this morn and he realy didnt do anything poor thing i do feel sorry for him sometimes. Going to take Emily iceskating this afternoon and try and cheer myself up.

Right guys i hate families, it was emilys party on thurs, she went bowling, we were meant to have it last week on her Birthday but she was sooo poorly so had to change it. Anyway she was meant to have 12 friends but one couldnt come so instead of lose the money by Best friends little girl who is 4 joined in and it was complete last minute. Well my sis has a 4 yr old and she has now got all shitty as i didnt invite her and saying awful things like i put friends first etc, well i do actually but ,my friends treat me better. You know what my sis hasnt even got Emily a present for her birthday and neither did my other sis or my brother how awful is that. Well its my sis dd bithday on mon and she was having a party for her today at her house and she hasnt invited Emily now before all this happened she was going to invite her but now she isnt and i feel like a hypercrite as i do feel gutted as it wasnt even like a planned for the other girl to be there and was being nasty or anything but now i think my sis is being nasty. She is only 20 with 3 DCs so i suppose it must be her age.
I'm not horrible am i? i dont know why i let them upset me they do this ALL the time and i always let it get to me.

God drama Drama Drama i hate it.

majormoo · 28/02/2009 12:03
