I'm 23 and hoping to try for a baby from next month.

Anyone else?

Bubblebell... Thank you, I hate this waiting game, it's miserable!
How you feeling today?

Joy27 · 15/01/2009 12:07

Oh and meant to say kat, sorry to hear you're having a nasty heavy af. Get thee to a hot water bottle!

Joy27 · 15/01/2009 12:06

I'm not giving up caffeine- I don't drink that much anyway, just a couple of cups of tea a day.

I've haven't given up alcohol entirely but am totally rethinking my approach to booze. Previously I'd have, if I'm honest, around 10-15 glasses of wine most weeks (couple of glasses on a few "school nights", 3-4 glasses on Fri and Sat), which is bad, ttc or not. Now I'm not drinking in the week, but will have a couple drinks at the weekend. We still have loads of booze left over from the festive season so it's very tempting to crack it open after a stressful day at work. But I have resisted so far. I can say with absolute certainty that if af comes this month I will be drinking a lot of wine.

What are you going to do after January?

I don't think any of us should feel like an old fuddy duddy for wanting to start a family in your 20s. It used to be the norm. In fact, at 28, I would have been considered over the hill a couple of decades ago! I have enjoyed my footloose years, but I know that we are so ready for this next step. Even when (theoretical) baby is here, I'm sure I won't feel a hankering to go out razzing it up.

AngelFairy · 15/01/2009 11:57

Morning Ladies...

I have been reading my Nutrition Bible this morning, as I want to make sure I'm eating and supplementing correctly... However, I found the read extremely interesting and HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!

Kat...
Sorry to hear your AF is being a b1tch - rest up hun!
I tested Tuesday lunchtime, which was neg but also only CD21... Waiting is awful, isn't it?!

Here's some much needed pregnancy angels for all you lovely ladies x x

katster37 · 15/01/2009 10:57

Morning Joy, I think we might have cross posted.

Yep, your GP seems to be talking rubbish to me! I don't think being 'emotionally ready' has much to do with it, if anything. I am sure not many 14 year olds who fnd themselves pregnant are not 'emotionally ready'. I do question GP advice re TTC to be honest. My visit yesterday confirmed this (and I don't normally say that - I have had lots of excellent advice about other things from GPs), but the fact that I was told all women ovulate on CD14 made me think . Thank goodness for these boards. I kind of wish it was like in the USA where you could see a specialist straight away, as my GP said they wouldn't do a specialist referral for at least 2 years. I think if I am still waiting to conceive in 2 years I may officially have gone insane. Which makes me have the utmost empathy for the people on this board who have been waiting that long, and longer.

BTW has anyone given up caffeine? I am trying to limit myself to 1 cup of coffee a day (1 LARGE cup, that is!) and me and DH are not drinking in January (we always do this, to detox after December!). However, I am always tempted to drown my AF sorrows in a few glasses of wine. Anyone else?

Joy27 · 15/01/2009 10:49

Morning all!

sammysam I'm with you on the Deanna plan- ie, I don't want to do it. I think for me, at the moment, I draw the line at (before) OPKs. It would just stress me out massively to make it so scientific and structure my life around testing. But, you know, different strokes for different folks and all that.

I went to the doc this morning and had a chat about my MC which was six months ago now. She told me that I hadn't got pregnant yet because I am not emotionally ready after my MC. Didn't really wash with me tbh. People get pregnant all the time in severely stressful situations; people get pregnant when it's the last thing they want/need. I'm not sure that your heart has any say in when your body is ready or not.

Anyway, she was right in telling me to stop stressing- pointing out that I'm 28, healthy and obviously fertile. I can say this here but wouldn't on other boards for fear of being insensitive: I'm glad that we have started to try in our 20s as I would feel much more worried about this (hopefully short) wait if I was 10 or even 5 years older.

How are you today, everyone?

katster37 · 15/01/2009 10:47

Morning girls,

Angel - have you tested???! Sounds v promising to me! Good luck.

Etcha I feel similar to you as well..> A lot of my friends are still living in shared houses with mates etc whereas all I want to do is curl up with DH and enjoy being a family - I sometimes feel like I am a bit sad really, but since DH feels the same, I suppose it's not. It's not like we don't go out or do anything, but I think there are certain pressures nowadays to leave babies to your 30s, whereas I want to have had 2 or 3 by the time I am 32 so I can enjoy my children! Plus, risks are considerably lower in your 20s, I feel. DOn't let anyone make you doubt your decision, they are probably just jealous!

Well, AF is ridiculously heavy as usual Am sure there is something wrong with me! We will see.

sammysam how old is your DD?

Hope everyone is having a nice Thursday.

bubblebell1 · 15/01/2009 08:22

morning girls!

angel fingers crossed all these signs = a BFP

etcha know what you mean.. my family think im mad goin for no. 3. i think its rude of ppl to pass comment. christ i dont have any say on how many kids they have..

hope your feeling better today sammy

baby dust to all

Etcha · 14/01/2009 22:49

I'm so glad for this thread. A few of my friends think I'm 23 going on 43 for wanting to settle down, but I can't think of anything that makes me happier than being with my boyfriend and my family and we're very family minded people so we wanted to try for a family of our own and be young parents.

I won't be trying until next month as still haven't had January AF.

OP posts:
sammysam · 14/01/2009 21:07

Thanks katster,Bubblebell and Joy-just having a really shitty day and finding it harder and harder not to think about ttc.
katster-yes I recognise your name from previous ttc threads-i'm rubbish at keeping up with threads as when I check them there have been loads of posts and I either have dd or dp distracting me plus I have been taking a break from them for a while as they were getting too upsetting.

I have heard about the Deanna plan but worried that it would take the fun out of bd as it would take the spontaneity out of it even more -what do you think?

I'm on my 2ww and am keeping my fingers crossed big style as dp is away skiing next month over my ov dates so that will be another month gone.

theboob symptom spotting is such a crazy thing isn't it?! Why are so many of the symptoms applicable for AF and BFP-drives me crazy every month

So sorry for all the mc's, BFN's and af's on this thread-lets hope there are no more at all

AngelFairy · 14/01/2009 20:47

Kat...
I'm having a few symptoms; very tender and ever-increasing breasts, nausea at various times throughout the day, peeing like a granny and slight right side cramps??
What do you think?

katster37 · 14/01/2009 19:26

Aaaaw, theboob, sorry you got a BFN but like you said, it's far too early. It's the waiting that is going to drive us all insane I think!

Hi Angel! Yes, DH is very good at listening to my twittering on, as you can imagine no doubt! Thanks for your luck - I'll let you know if it works! What are your symptoms? Eeeek, I'm excited for you!

And welcome to bestlaidplans. We sound like we are pretty similar in length of time TTC. It feels like forever to me... Not sure how people cope with that awful feeling when AF arrives but am obviously not doing too well at it myself! Although feeling a bit perkier now and looking forward to BD-ing later on in the month.

Hope everyone else is OK!

theboob · 14/01/2009 19:05

hi all
I am symptom spotting mad at the mo...I'm tired all the time,I'm very bloated little bouts of nausea ,but all this could be myself
I cant wait another week ,i tested today as i found the tests DH hid,It was obv a BFN as it is far to early ,hope you are all well x

AngelFairy · 14/01/2009 18:57

Katster, Hi !

I am also ttc#1, I'm on cycle1 but cd22 with symptoms... and fingers crossed.

Sounds like you're having some frustrations. I'm glad you've got a well versed bh to comfort you chick x
Sending you some luck for this month x

BestLaidPlans · 14/01/2009 18:53

Hello, can I join too please? 28 and TTC#1. AF due on the 20th so madly symptom spotting and trying not to break open the tests yet.

2 years? Oh dear, I'm getting slightly neurotic after four months, which I suppose is no time at all really, though it doesn't feel like that!

Good luck to all.

Lisey09 · 14/01/2009 17:18

I'm definitely going to follow the Deanna plan as soon as we start in March, but no matter whether it works or not, won't be calling it Deanna!!! (imagine calling a boy that!!)

Katster I'd take a look at it here I found it very reassuring as she points out that even if you follow it to the letter and you conceive, only 25% implant correctly - so it's just whether you're lucky or not.

I can't believe the average is 2 years!!! Maybe she was trying to be reassuring!

katster37 · 14/01/2009 14:09

Hi Joy, yes I think it is probably compulsory to name your child Deanna if you conceive on it!
I am 27 too, 28 in August, and also naively thought I would conceive straight away... My GP helpfully told me not to panic, as it takes lots of couples a few years (thanks - I feel great now...) She also said that 2 years is the AVERAGE to conceive.. This can't be true, I am sure, if you include accidents, people who conceive in the first month. I don't think I rate her opinion that much, especially since she asked some rather bizarre Qs at my last visit!

Joy27 · 14/01/2009 14:04

There seems to be a few ladies feeling down in the dumps today. Sammy- sorry you're having such a frustrating time. You too Bubblebell

Although it's only 6 months since my mc, I honestly though that at my age (28- 27 when started ttc hence username which I can't be arsed to change), conception would be a doddle. Ha. Am focusing on staying healthy and trying not to get too obsessed. Wish I could be like my partner and just think "when it happens, it happens". Having said that I do feel quite positive at the moment. To be perfectly honest he'd be surprised if he knew all the obsessing/interwebbing I'm getting up to!

Off to check out Deanna plan. Do we have to name the baby after it if it works?

katster37 · 14/01/2009 13:34

Hi girls, sammysam I think we have chatted on another thread before. Sorry you are feeling down. I have a sinus infection too (hence am off work on mumsnet!) and I think it's not helping my state of mind!
Thanks bluebell and lisey - Yes, AF is indeed a complete bitch, I hate her!!
Is the Deanna plan the thing about BDing every other day? We pretty much did that last month, BDing CD9, 11, 12, 14, 16 and 17, to no avail. I can't help thinking that if there is not long enough between ovulation and AF then if the egg is fertilised, it doesn't matter 'cos stupid body has already decided to have AF. Grrrr I am so frustrated! Upping the B6 big time this month!
sammysam I understand totally about friends becoming pg. On Saturday we were at a party and a friend announced she had just had her 12 week scan and I nearly burst into tears . I found it ridiculously hard to even congratulate her, even though I am please (honest!). It makes it worse when people joke that we've been married long enough now and shouldn't we be thinking about it soon? I feel like slapping them!! (I don't, obviously!) Well, here's hoping this month will be our month, and we have gorgeous little October babies!!

bubblebell1 · 14/01/2009 13:27

Hi girls!

how are you all?

sorry that AF got you kat she is an evil biatch.

i fell so easily with both dc so this time i decided to stay on the pill right to the last min. what a mistake that was. last cycle was 68 days and now im on cd11 this month is dragging and i cant seem to think of anything else.

i hear what your saying about other ppl gettin pregnant around you. i feel myself gettin jealous and have to control myself.

lisey i am following the deanna plan. are you?

sammy i hope you get a BFP soon. maybe you should try DP too.

Lisey09 · 14/01/2009 13:11

Katster thank you!

Sorry that AF came and ruined things this time round - It's the total pitts.

Thought I was pregnant (not really sure why, but you know how you can convince yourself of these things?!!!) last month (even though we haven't started trying yet)and when I woke in the night with that tell tale ache, I prayed to just about everybody I could think of that it wasn't AF - it was of course.

I'm positive, you're not the most impatient person in the world - everybody hopes it'll happen first time.

Besides - only another 7 days and the fun part starts again! (have you been following the Deanna Plan? If not, it might be worth a look on google)

x

sammysam · 14/01/2009 13:00

Hi everyone can I join? I'll catch up with the thread later as no time now. I'm 26 and TTC #2-been trying for almost a year now
DD was a complete surprise so the fact that we are now almost a year along just makes me really sad-the age gap is getting bigger and bigger all the time
Sorry on a bit of a downer today as have a major cold and have just found out a friend with a dd the same age as mine is expecting #2. I just don't know what i'm doing wrong-we are both much fitter and healthier than we were when we got pregnant before, both in the light end of ideal BMI range. This friend is in her mid 30's and her husband older. I AM happy for them-even though it sounds like i'm not
I'm having acupuncture, temp charting, checking cm, drinking grapefruit juice, taking prenatal vit and b6.
It gets harder every month-so much so that i've had a few months keeping away from these threads....been drawn back today though

katster37 · 14/01/2009 12:28

Lisey, I have no idea!! I am always quite sceptical about these stories of women who suddenly give birth, having no idea they were pregnant

I am sorry about your Dad. There is nothing I can say other than I can totally empathise with you. I hope when you do have a child, he will be looking down on you and smiling.

I fee I must be the most impatient person in the world. I was desperate to be one of these people who managed to conceive in their first month of trying, no probs, but it seems I am not! DH says it would be too easy, and nothing worth having is that easy!! He is far more philosophical than me.

I have just popped my B6 and folic acid for the day. Really think I will try the progesterone cream this month from about day 12 as I have heard this has good results for lengthening luteal phase. Anyone got any other tips? x

Lisey09 · 14/01/2009 12:08

Angel, Katster I totally agree with you both!

I remember in my late teens being terrified of getting pregnant (even though I wanted to have a baby) because I didn't want my Dad to be disappointed in me. He suddenly died in 2006 and one of the most painful things was the realisation that he might have been disappointed in me (had I got pregnant as a teen), but atleast he would have known a Grandchild.

I have NO idea how accidents happen, even less how someone can get to labour and not KNOW they were pregnant!! How is that possible?!

katster37 · 14/01/2009 11:32

Hello! Can I join? I have posted on a couple of other threads too, namely the TTC*1 one. I am 27, we have been married for 3 years (DH is 27 too) and we are on cycle 3. Having said that, we haven't used any contraception for years, and I checked CM etc to avoid (although not really, for the last year!) conception. I am currently having a bit of a flip as I think I don't have long enough between ovulation and my period for implantation to take place. So am trying a potion of vitamins and herbs, which are not working so far!

My AF arrived yesterday, and was greeted by much crying and hysteria - DH clearly thinks I am insane.

Irish we sound pretty similar (not that you are insane!) in that me and DH were first to get married and none of my friends except my very best friend know we are TTC. I couldn't cope with the monthly questions, and the close monitoring of whether or not I am drinking alcohol every time we go out! My best friend has been amazing though, and never asks, just says if I want to talk about it she will listen.

Angel - I said the same thing to my GP this morning - how on earth do accidents happen?!?! I cannot understand it - you spend your whole life panicking every month in case AF doesn't arrive, and then suddenly realise you had absolutely nothing to worry about because it is bl*ody difficult to get pregnant, in my experience!! Ok, rant over...
