I am 8 or 9 DPO I think

I keep checking my diary from last time - I think I suspected heightened sense of smell, but wasn't convinced till I fed the cats and nearly hurled into the cat food at 11DPO, so that will be the test

WanabeMum · 14/01/2009 14:10

Good theory Jools! Possible i suppose. Although your body seems to be picking up on something. Surely they can't all be a figment of your imagination??

Hope you're right about my "symptoms" Jools. Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for both of us this month. When will you be able to test? I'm only 7DPO today and had small pokey feelings earlier in lower left of abdomen. Trying not to look into it too much or I'll get carried away!

Wasabi i'm sorry the news wasn't better, but at least it wasn't a total disaster. It must be aweful to have to wait another few days but try and be positive. Keep speaking to your little bean and encourage it to hang on in there over the next few days! May sound silly but who knows what works? Hoping for you honey.

Joolsiam · 14/01/2009 14:02

Wasabi - interesting that you talk about a heightened sense of smell post ov - I've never noticed that before, but then again, wasn't really looking out for it before either

I still think your suspected UTI / Thrush is a symptom

I'm still at the stage of having twinges of nausea / dizziness / abdo ache / itchy nips that could be imagination or could be a symptom so am trying not to get too excited. From memory, this is what it was like last time, and it was only when I got unmistakable abdo pain (like a poker going into belly button) and hot, tingly nips, that I really allowed myself to hope. I have a theory though, that post MC, your body is used to the hormones still, so won't react as quickly or to such a degree

wasabipeanut · 14/01/2009 14:00

Well I just got my results and they are not great but not a disaster either. They are showing 46 days whereas by my calcs they should have been showing a minimum of 50. A 4 day discrepancy would be okish but the fact is that 46 days is about 6 and a half weeks and my scan measurements were......6 weeks.

My midwife said it wasn't looking great but to have more bloods done on Friday. If they are the same or less then it looks like this little bean is not to be.

I half wish she'd said - it's coming in at 5 weeks, that way at least I'd know for sure.

Now I have more waiting

WanabeMum · 14/01/2009 13:55

Cindy re: the twice daily romps. Unfortunately i only get to do it daily around OV and it's usually at night. I had been thinking of trying to do it morning/evening alternates like yellow suggests but DH is up and out of the house by 5:50am! way too ealry to get "in the mood" . Once every other day and then daily around OV should be fine. There are plenty of women who got their BFP that way!

Wasabi i really hope your blood results give you a glimmer of hope and i'm sure your little bean ws listening to you. Fingers crossed and positive thoughts for both you and your bean Good luck honey xx

Jools ooooh your symptoms are stacking up girl!! Sounding very optimistic for you!
I'm very confused today, had convinced myself it was a UTI but today hardly any symptoms. Now my past experiences show that it only gets worse without antibiotics so what on earth is going on? I know it is/was thrush because the cream helped and it felt like there was a fire down there!
I really hope these are symptoms for me. My DH said last night "i really hope it works this time, it's starting to get me down now as it's the one thing i can't give you" awww i felt aweful for him. Never thought it would be this hard (how naive of me!)

Broodzilla · 14/01/2009 13:08

Hi everyone,

Gosh, it's been busy in here!

First of all Wasabi, I don't even know you, but I am thinking of you with all my might today, hoping for some good news (as I'm sure everyone else on this thread is too!)

Queenie, I use the same OPKs, and have been struggling with them this month... maybe there's a duff batch out there? Either that, or my cycle's messed up. JTLYK, last month when I picked up the surge, I had a faint line one day and then a dark line (clearly darker than test line) the next, faint the one after that and that's when I stopped dipping. Perhaps should've carried on. This month, nothing but completely white ones, and have had pale ones a few days in a row now but should've had a surge by now. All in all, not feeling positive this month.

C1ndy, Thanks for the tip, I'll be ordering some pre-seed asap. Getting a bit sick of the GFJ and cough syrup... re: the twice daily romps, I'm sure I've read that it's actually better to do the deed every other day, otherwise you end up diluting the swimmers. Twice daily is probably fine if your DH is a super stud, but mine has a low count, so we're better of saving them up. Luckily, as after 8 years together, twice daily is a tall order!

And lastly, thought I'd share a bit of info... a friend of mine is going through IVF at the moment, and had an appointment yesterday. She was told (and I'm sure she wouldn't mind me sharing this, although at the same time it feels strange to keep taking mental notes as she's really been struggling...) that she needs to make sure she gets 60 grams of protein every day, AND was advised to keep a hot water bottle on her belly at night.

Might as well give it a go, right?

C1NDY · 14/01/2009 13:00

Thanks to all for sharing! Goush, I thought I had to do it twice a day... Yellow loved your way of thinking...I may try that method if I get no BFP this month.

Now something interesing someone mentioned that if my sticks turn positive i may still not have ovulated. I thought we ovulate when sticks turns pink within 36 - 48 hours?? therefore when my stick turned positive on CD13.. I had a window of CD13 and CD15 to have ovulated in. So does that mean i could still ovulate on CD16, CD17..etc...???

If so, then I should continue the bd - as I was going to have one last try tonight and then give DH a three week rest!!

Queenie before I forget, you can only read the OPK the internet one's for one hour only as if you read them after this time then it can lead to a misreading (I think the strip colour will darken or fade). You can keep the sticks for memory but once I have done my test.. I read it and then file it away in the bin. You can record your OPK results on FF, if you are using this method of charting.

Hi all - thanks for asking. I am much better today though still coughing but not so much I throw up. Had sex last night and dh did say he found me asking him to stop so I could cough (they are great big body shuddering coughs) a bit offputting!

C1ndy - we never do twice a day - I don't think we did even when we were first together or on honeymoon . We are trying for every other day but something I am trying to do is morning one day then evening the next so it feels like every other day to dh but is actually every day. So for example we did it on Monday morning and then on Tuesday night so that's 36 hours between shags which must be better than 48. Will then try for tomorroe morning too so no sex today but only 36 hours between Tues night and Thurs morning. Not sure it will work every time though.

Joolsiam · 14/01/2009 10:35

Well you did ask

I'm already having to give myself a good talking to - had mild cramps when I got up this morning - told myself it was just because I was desperate to pee and had been holding it all in. Every so often though, I feel something down in the abdominal area - it just seems heavier with the odd very mild crampy twinge. Could be something or could be nothing (need a shrugs shoulders emoticon)

Lots of the day left for obsessing

On the BD question - DP and I have been together over ten years and have kinda got comfortable with each other - BD would routinely happen once a week at most Since TTC, I've managed to increase the frequency around the crucial time, but not by that much really. Have just found we are better in the mornings, so have to hope that OV coincides with a weekend, so we don't have to get up ! My Sept BFP was after only 3BD's that month and I'm sure two of them were too early

queenie1 · 14/01/2009 10:21

Cindy / wasabi - thanks for advice re OPK sticks. I'm not in a scientific profession but perhaps I should be?!! The OPK that was nearly as dark as control line yesterday has now dried and looks similar to the others (yes they are still lined up and labelled!!). So will continue to test every day around 2pm ish and see if I get an obvious surge. Meanwhile me and DH are trying to BD every couple of days (so far CD7, 10, 11 and 13).

Cindy - we don't manage twice a day let alone once. Only reason for morning romps is that DH is often knackered when he gets in from work and for some reason we've always been more morning sort of people (although I take whatever and whenever I get at the moment!!). So try not to worry. As long as it's every couple of days you should be covered.

yellow - hope you're feeling okay?

wasabi - I know just what you mean about talking to the bean and wishing / asking it to choose life. I so hope things work out well - and let us know when you hear of the blood tests. All my thoughts are with you. xxx

so jools - any obsessive symptom spotting to report today? You did warn us it would kick in on DPO 8!!

Pezzina · 14/01/2009 10:18

I hope you get good news Wasabi my fingers are crossed for you. I'm sure your little bean will be listening xx

wasabipeanut · 14/01/2009 09:55

Jesus Cindy if DH and I could have managed it twice a day on a regular basis it would have been a miracle. You shouldn't need to bd more than once a day even at peak time - sending in reinforcements daily should be sufficient!

wasabipeanut · 14/01/2009 09:51

Smiley - best of luck with your scan today. I hope with all my heart yours is more positive than mine! I know I wouldn't wish the last 48 hours DH and I have had on anyone, let alone a virtual friend!

Jools - the sense of smell thing is really wierd. I know that my sense of smell becomes enhanced after I have ov'd - I think its something to do with progesterone levels. That's why for me it isn't a reliable indicator but it might well be for you! I so hope that you will be lucky this time - you've been through so much. If there is such a thing a baby karma some good stuff is definately due your way. Thanks for those virtual Thorntons by the way - I have eaten a LOT of chocolate since Monday. I hope I'm wrong too.

Yellow hope you feel better soon. I know it is gutting when illness hits at prime shagging time.

Queenie - when I was doing OPK's I would get a very obvious obvious surge day and then it would drop back to being a really faint line again. I did chuckle at you labelling them all! Are you in a scientific sort of profession? I think if this timr doesn't work out for me, when DH and I start again I will get some cheapies and OPK even after I get a surge because I was starting to develop a theory that I ov'd later than I thought - and that the cramps I tended to get about 10 days before AF arrived were ov pains rather than anything else. Just because you pick up a surge it doesn't mean you ov for sure just after that time.

Well I am waiting and waiting for my phone to ring with news of my blood results. It's pretty agonising actually so will prob try to distract myself somehow with work. I keep veering between telling myself to prepare for the worst but at the same time have a little fantasy that I can tell my dh that there is hope after all. God its so difficult. I had a little chat with the bean yesterday - told it to choose life. I hope to god it was listening.

C1NDY · 14/01/2009 09:48

Have been cracking the whip with the DH and we were meant to bd this morning but the poor little thing was too tired. Goush, that totally pissed me off - sorry for my french... but we get such a small window every month and when it matters the other half folds on me - what is with that??? Well I am CD15 - should have ovulated between CD13-CD15... this is our last day to seal the deal. Can I ask you all, sorry for too much information but I only am able to bd in the evening and we only do it the once, are you all having bd sessions in the morning and the evening? or am i okay to have one a day?? sorry for the TMI but I am getting so flipping frastrated... I may have to find a stud!!

C1NDY · 14/01/2009 09:44

Queenie I have the same tests but also had some Boots one?s still lying around. I tested with the internet one?s until I got a positive and then double checked a couple of hours later with a Boots stick and they were both positive. Now to give you TMI, I found that it was better to collect urine in a container and then to dip the stick in? as with weeing on the sticks ? in the long run it ensured that the test would always work and that I had enough urine that I needed to have a proper controlled test.

BeckyMcG · 13/01/2009 23:01

So sorry wasabi - keep us posted xx

Joolsiam · 13/01/2009 19:28

Wanabe - you have SYMPTOMS Before I got that last BFP, I got a mild dose of thrush - quite common because of the hormone changes going on apparently.

I also feel very warm and (ahem ) wet down there - no discharge to speak of but damp knickers.

the headache could also be a hormone thing (I have had that too - last time and for the last two days.

Aching legs - can't find the reference but they can be symptom - something to do with the hormones telling the uterus to start expanding and pressing on a nerve / artery I think.

I have no sore boobs and no metallic taste (although I never got that last time), but am starting to think the symptoms are stacking up

yellowflowers · 13/01/2009 18:04

thanks everyone. I haven't properly shaken it off since last month. I have a slither of hope that I ovulated early and this is morning sickness but really the dates don't work out plus I don't feel nauseuous - I just cough, then throw up, then feel normal again.

WanabeMum · 13/01/2009 17:27

Aww Yellow i hope the cold doesn't stop the BD-fest!

Jools you're my voice of reason which is exactly what i need to be honest so keep it up! Your symptoms sound positive though!

Well I'm not sure what's going on with me. Had major headache that just wouldn't shift on Saturday which was 3DPO. Then constant need for a wee started 4DPO and has continued since. Today (6DPO) i feel very "hot" down there like thrush, in fact im convinced that's what it is and have started using the cream (nice). I've also started to convince myself that the need for the loo is in fact a UTI so i dropped a sample off today at my GP's. Lovely! I've had leg and bacl ache for the past few days too but could be due to exercise.
Otherwise nothing! No sore boobs, no metallic taste, nothing else at all. Feeling quite hopeless already. Why is the 2ww so horrible????

Joolsiam · 13/01/2009 17:10

hehe - I like the concept of "Mumsnutterness"

Hope you feel better soon Yellow

iggypiggy · 13/01/2009 17:05

aw yellow poor you

Can't imagine you feel much like BDing xx

yellowflowers · 13/01/2009 17:01

enjoy shaggyathon iggy - I have thrown up every day for last week - but because I have bad cough I think and that makes me throw up - am only day 13 of cycle unless I ovulated early (which as my temp after a raise is now back down i think unlikely) now is premium bding time.

iggypiggy · 13/01/2009 14:48

Fingers crossed for you wasabi xx

c1ndy well done on the running - I can't bear it so am always impressed when people do

smiley good luck for the scan

queenie am finding the idea of lots of opks all lined up and labelled quite funny but sounds to me like you might be surging? I thought it had to be darker than the control line - so sounds likely?

I am CD8 today - so let the shagathon commence

queenie1 · 13/01/2009 14:41

Quick update...in the spirit of 'mumsnutterness' - feel free to ignore!!

just done my day 13 opk. I've lined it up alongside my other opks (all marked with CD number!) and don't worry, yes I AM working at home today.

Apart from CD 10 which is darker than the others, they are all fairly similar but todays looks like it is a bit darker again (almost same colour as control line). Is this because I've just done it and its still wet whilst the others are now dry? Or does it mean I am surging or likely to surge tomorrow or soon? In relation to this, does the result gradually get darker or do you see a very obvious difference and one-off surge (this one-off and obvious surge is what I was expecting)?

queenie1 · 13/01/2009 14:32

LOL about you all googling 'orgasm and trying to conceive' whilst at work . I'd not heard before that having an orgasm could be harmful!! I find that quite hard to believe...no doubt I'll have a look myself in a bit and report back if I find any useful info.

Cindy - I'm using internet cheapies called "One Step Ovulation Test". I tried to do the OPK a few months back using clear blue ones but by day 14 I'd used all seven of the tests, had no peak and couldn't justify another £20!! So now I've got 30 strips which I got for about a fiver. Have you used these? Any good? I'm also on CD13 of a cycle that usually lasts about 28-29 days (but it can vary sometimes being a bit shorter, sometimes longer - last month it was 33 days).

Smiley - good luck for the scan tomorrow

wasabi - thinking of you. xxx

jools - you're as insane as I am. But I don't think I'd be able to smell cucumber in an open plan office in my current non-PG state so potentially sounds promising!?!
