Hi all. Well, after nearly a year of talking about it, and not really trying NOT to conceive, we are finally taking the plunge and this month will be our first PROPER month of TTC our first child. I am so excited! I realise it will not all be plain sailing, but I feel it is such a huge thing to have even reached this point.
I am on CD1 and have been v closely monitoring my cycles and ovulation patterns (we have been using natural family planning for a while) so am extremely nervous and excited about what is held in store.... Anyone in the same boat that would care to join me?!

Thanks purple I feel much better this evening. I know it's silly to worry at this stage - after all we've only been trying for a cople of months - but I guess when you really want something you can get carried away !

Hi blondes - I was on the pill for 13 years before we decided to ttc at NY and my AF arrived 28 days after I took my last pill. I tried OPK sticks this month and got a positive so hopefully I am ovulating too so you don't always have problems after the pill. Hope your AF arrives soon - how strange to be hoping yours arrives when I am hoping mine doesn't!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/01/2009 18:26

weirdly enough,my mum has bever asked, unlike mil

tech as stillon the pill, and have been for 17years,it might take a whilefor AF to arrive, havent had her for 2 years since i changed to a different pill, so who knows

i have saved a fortune in tampax though, the last 24months

PurpleCrazyHorse · 09/01/2009 17:54

What a fab friend you are Blondeshavemorefun - I recall making sneaky sideways glances at PG friends trying to determine as didn't want to ask We have done exactly the same thing though, as I didn't want parents piling on the pressure - and had the same fears about getting PG or not. MN has been brilliant because I haven't spoken to anyone in RL about it (except DH).

I did want to TTC but wasn't too fussed at the start - DH was more keen. However once I started to get close to AF in Jan, the more excited I became. I'm sure you'll take a BFP in your stride

Thinking of you idreamofbeanie, the waiting is always horrible (and no Christmas/New Year to distract). Big hugs.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/01/2009 17:34

waves

can i join?

dh and i decided at NY that we are going tcc - take last few pills next week

part of me is omg-what happens if i conceieve straight away and i could have a baby by christmas - other part fears i may not be able to conceieve/will take years

i also havent mentioned to any rw friends as have seen many friends being asked every month if they are pregnant - once they have said they are trying - and it got them down

i never asked, assumed when they were and over 8/12 weeks they would mention it to me

idreamofbeanie · 09/01/2009 09:39

Morning all,

welcome eeyore - I'm afraid I don't have any advice re the late arrival of AF but I've seen agnus castus mentioned on a couple of threads so I hope that works for you.

Well I'm starting the dreaded 2ww and not feeling very hopeful for some reason. DP and I got in as much BDing as possible over the last few days although he has been working away a bit so we should be in with a good chance. It's just that it all seems to come down to luck in the end and I've never thought of myself as a very lucky person. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean I have really bad luck or bad things happen in my life it's just that I've never so much as won a raffle prize and hate leaving things to chance. Sorry, this probably all sounds very stupid. I think I'm just feeling the effects of a gloomy dark and wet Friday morning !

eeyore2 · 09/01/2009 08:19

Thanks girls! That's really helpful advice about Agnus Castus and I will definitely look into it. Purple, great news about the BFP. It must be nice to be able to tell us when you are probably keeping quiet about it in real life.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 08/01/2009 22:38

Welcome eeyore - we're a friendly bunch so do stick around. You're certainly in 'first-timer' good company here!!

I came off the pill at the end of October and did AF roughly on time in November although not sure if I OVed as weren't TTC then so played safe. December was a loose thing and by freaky chance got a BFP on Monday. I've heard that it can take a while though and was very surprised we managed it in the first month of trying. You could always pop and see your GP or Family Planning Clinic for some advice.

No symptoms yet, thought I'd gone off chocolate but ate the remaining Christmas Lindt tonight, so obviously not!

Found a doula via www.doula.org.uk/. Not many in South Wales so needed to register my interest ASAP. Suspect DH will be as helpful as a man can be, but really need a female who's been through it and has loads of useful advice. Still early days though so just had an informal e-mail chat expressing my interest!

Broodzilla · 08/01/2009 21:39

Welcome Eeyore!
With the risk of sounding like a bore... seriously, if you haven't already, give Agnus Castus a whirl. I'm new to TTC (obviously), but as far as sorting AF out, Agnus Castus is fab!
I eyed up the October thread, but am trying to limit myself as I don't want to end up getting addicted to following loads of different ones.

Purple you really are staying level headed and cool about the BFP. Amazing. I can't imagine... Are you getting any symptoms yet? You must tell us all the little things so that we can live vicariously through you!

Katster where in California are you going? If you have any free time at all, try to squeeze in a road-trip, the stretch between LA and San Francisco is amazing. And Napa Valley (although no wine tasting for you, hopefully!!)
We had to get out of Vegas for a bit, all that bling and glitz got to me... I'm a simple girl! We drove out to the Grand Canyon, spent a night in Flagstaff and carried on to Sedona, AZ. GORGEOUS!! (In all honesty, I was probably as excited about the road-trip as I was about the wedding.)

I'm off to research raspberry leafs!

katster37 · 08/01/2009 19:55

Welcome eeyore!
I know what you mean about not feeling like a 'wife' - I still always almost laugh when I say my 'husband'! Far too grown up!
Broodzilla, your wedding sounds fantastic!! Did you stay in Vegas long? We have booked a holiday in California this summer (we can change the flights for free so I am hoping to have to do that!) Not that Vegas is in California, but it just reminded me! Hmmm not sure about the 3 day AF. It sounds fine though. My AF's were really really heavy as a teen, then went to maybe 4 days in my early 20s, and the last 3 - 4 months have been 6 day painful extravaganzas! I actually fainted with period pain last month!! So, I'm not sure, but give the red raspberry leaf a whirl, I'm sure a spot of tonifying can't do any harm!!
Wow, purple, you sound v calm and collected!! How did you choose your doula? How exciting, I am so ! Although obvously v happy for you - don't take that the wrong way!
Right - I have massively sore boobs today, but am only 4DPO so there is no way it is a symptom - it is probably the stupid short luteal phase getting shorter Let's hope the B6 and Agnus Castus gets to work soon!

eeyore2 · 08/01/2009 19:15

Hi there, can I join you? I'm also on the 'trying for October' thread but not many of the ladies over there are trying for #1. I came off the pill in November and am now on cd44 (!) I didn't seem to ovulate and got a bfn when I did a test just in case. Grr. Now just sitting it out and waiting for AF to arrive, with a bit of bd'ing just in case there is a surprise ovulation. I've resolved only to do a preg test once every 30 days to avoid turning into a madwoman. Anyone else take ages to get their first AF after the pill?
Also Lady Metroland, I really like your nickname, I just read 'Decline and Fall' and thought it was hilarious.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 08/01/2009 19:04

Smiles all round - lots of luck to everyone TTC, I'm sure Jan is going to be a good month and I need some BFP company!!

Not yet ready to move to the Pregnancy board as everyone is 40+ weeks and ready to drop (or having all sorts of nasty things plus sharing TMI) - I'm happy in blissful ignorance

Luckily not gone crazy with baby things at all, trying to remember all the things I can/can't eat etc etc, no room in my brain for pushchairs and cutsy clothing. However, in my super organised fashion, I've started a birth plan and contacted a doula. Still so much could go pear-shaped before 12 weeks but trying to chill out and take each day at a time.

Katster37 been thinking of you and hope things are working out with your short luteal phase. Do you think the B6 and Agnus Castus are working?

What a wonderful wedding Broodzilla, eloping sounds brilliant fun and Vegas seems like a blast - you didn't have an Elvis theme did you? Congratulations once again. I must say I didn't feel like a wife either. In fact, DH calling me his wife still sounds a bit weird (and we've been married 7 years).

Broodzilla · 08/01/2009 16:20

WOOOOHOOOOO!
We have a BFP!!!!! Well done Purple!!!! You'll probably not be hanging around on this thread for long, but you know you'll always have honorary membership as the first one to actually MANAGE TC!

Now, let's all hope that this is the luckiest thread ever and we all end up preggers by the end of the month!

Katster I may have to get me some of that tea, my uterus just might need tonifying. No wonder these discussion boards are so popular, can you imagine having these conversations IRL with a straight face?

Umm, and while we're on the subject, I have a question. My AF arrived on time (uninvited, but hey...) but now seems to only last for 3 days. It's been yeeeears since I've had a 'proper' AF (no pills, no injections etc.) but I most certainly remember bleeding for 5 or 6 days at a time. Any ideas about what's going on with my body? Am I just getting old? (I must quickly add that I'm not at all complaining, if AF wants to hang around for 3 days only, that's fine by me, but ummm... am I not supposed to be shedding lovely uterus linings and such?)

Right.

On to more fun things - we jetted off to Vegas and got married just the two of us. Not very romantic, I know, but we have family all over England (and Scandinavia) and it would have been near on impossible to get everyone gathered in one place. So we eloped. And you know what? It was fun. I really recommend it for anyone out there who wants to get hitched but for one reason or another can't be doing with the whole wedding-thing. (Note to ovaries, any beans will now be wedlock, so HURRY UP!)

We're starting the BD rumba tomorrow as I should be OVing over the weekend.

Lots of babydust all around.

katster37 · 08/01/2009 12:27

Sorry VeryAnnieMary welcome to you too!

Welcome, FutureMum!

OMG congratulations, Purple, that is absolutely fantastic!! I am so excited for you!! This is turning into quite a successful thread!

I am on CD21 today, AF usually arrives on CD28 or 29. I don't know why, but am feeling really down about it all at the min, have convinced myself I am not ovulating! GP says regular cycle + heavy-ish AF + OV signs suggests I do, but for some reason I am feeling sad . ThinK i am just impatient!

Broodzilla, congrats on your marriage!! Tell us all about the day!
Red Raspberry Leaf is meant to 'tonify' your uterus, whatever that means?! And help with EWCM. So we'll see.

Friday tomorrow!

Welcome Futuremum and VeryAnnieMary hoping you enjoy the thread. I'm sure the 2009 BFP luck will continue.

Filled in my form at the GP today and waiting for a midwife to see me at about week 9/10. Seems ages away. Don't feel PG, don't look PG, no-one in RL (except DH) knows I'm PG so it seems all a bit surreal. Deliberately not looking at anything too baby-like until after the 1st scan. Decided not to tell anyone until then either (although might spill to parents just before). Life goes on as before, just with a pee stick plus pink line in the bathroom bin

Good luck fellow TTCers, fingers crossed for Jan

VeryAnnieMary · 06/01/2009 13:00

Hi all

Very new at this - have been a lurker for a while as it's taken two years since DH & I thought we might start TTC to actually braving the decision itself... I've never been maternal but I think hormones have finally taken over, in both of us funnily enough.

Anyway I ran out of pills on NYE 2008 and are "seeing what happens". My major worry is the return of horrific heavy periods like I had before going ont eh pill (anaemia was part of the decision to go on the pill). I'm also scared about losing my lie-ins and other lovely things about a child-free life. But I'm giving it a go. Not a single person in RL knows except for DH & I and I have to keep it that way for a while.

Thanks for all your previous postings - it's nice to know I'm not alone!

And CONGRATS to Purple!

idreamofbeanie · 06/01/2009 12:56

Welcome Futuremum,

I also started trying for number 1 just before xmas. I have been trying to brace myself for it to take a while but I was still really disappointed when AF arrived and I am already feeling impatient this month. DP is in much less of a rush so it's great to have the forum to offload all this 'enthusiasum' on.

I hope we both have a very short wait!

FutureMum · 06/01/2009 12:05

Thought I would join the club as started trying for number 1 just before the New Year. Husband and me keeping our fingers crossed and hoping 2009 is the year when we start a family. Am psyching myself to expect anything, either to fall pregnant pretty much straight away or to wait for months/years. Scared of the hormonal aspect of it (I am very emotional on a normal basis, so I wonder about the ups and downs ahead?) No family or friends nearby (we are new-ish here), so I shall turn to the Forum for advice every now and again.

idreamofbeanie · 06/01/2009 11:45

Wow Purple that's fantastic - CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'm so pleased for you. Can't wait to experience that shocked feeling for myself.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 06/01/2009 09:51

Congratulations Broodzilla I hope you had the most amazing day and every blessing for your life together.

Despite the very early BFN, no AF arrived and retested yesterday getting a BFP - roughly calculated as 4 wks 4 days. Totally excited waiting to test etc but now a bit shocked and thinking life will never be the same!

Broodzilla · 06/01/2009 01:23

Happy New Year Ladies!
(And Happy belated 30th Purple!)
I'm back from the wedding/honeymoon, all married and smug!
(Not really... I keep expecting to feel all grown-up and wife-like, but it's just the same old me with an extra ring on my finger...)

Katster you've now got me googling raspberry leaf tea... it's obviously some marvelous TTC trick that I don't know about. I'm not an expert on PCOS, but are your cycles fairly regular? And are you making sure that you're only weeing on the OPKs in the afternoon, and not weeing for 4 hours before? (Sorry if I'm stating the obvious... but I heard that it's really easy to miss the surge.)

Purple we really are on a very similar cycle. I'm keeping fingers xed that you're not starting the next one... My AF arrived the day after we got back, so I'm now on CD3. In a way, I'm relieved as I went a bit OTT with the champers on NYE!

Anyway, good luck with the BDing Beanie! Let's hope 09 has some babies in store for us all...

katster37 · 05/01/2009 19:15

Hi purple and Idreamofbeanie (nice name change!) Did you hvae nice CHristmases? I can't believe it's over and back at work today was pretty hard! Broodzilla are you about? When is it your wedding, am I being stupid and are you on your honeymoon?!?!
Well, I am on CD18 and had lots of EWCM all week, but managed to convince myself that this was only due to the Red Raspberry Leaf I am taking. Does anyone know anything about PCOS, btw? Do you think my periods would be irregular if I had this? I am jst concerned I am not ovulating as I never manage to get a positive on an OPK. Sorry, I sound really stressy today!!
Hope you ladies are well and here's wishing for a super 2009 x x x

Hi Purplecrazyhorse, sorry to hear about BFN but it was very early to test so I will keep my fingers crossed AF doesn't arrive.

I am on CD12 and unfortunately DP is working away most of this week but we BD'd yesterday and he will hopefully be home on Wednesday night and Friday night so still a chance we could be lucky this month. I am just so impatient already . Spent most of the hols surrounded by kids which was great but made me realise how much I want to start a family.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 04/01/2009 19:16

Sorry to hear about AF IDoBeanie, I'm due today or tomorrow. Already took an early PG test using a standard kit (stupid I know) - I just had to know something. Very unlike me. Unsurprisingly came back BFN. However due to the unscientific nature of my testing I'm now waiting for AF and will test again if late.

Had a fab birthday with friends and has taken my mind off things. Drunk lots of Schloer (sp?) but wasn't the only one as one friend breastfeeding and another on antibiotics!! Lots of fun with their 3mth old baby - very cute.

Hoping everyone else had a great Christmas and New Year.

idreamofbeanie · 30/12/2008 16:12

Hi all, hope everyone had a great xmas.

I thought a name change was in order after xmas so cantwaitforxmas becomes idreamofbeanie ta da.

Well AF arrived xmas morning - I was obviously very disappointed but luckily have been so busy having a great xmas I haven't had time to mope. Fingers crossed for this month!
