YAY!!! mibbes you are going to meet your baby today this happened to me aswell with DD
i was booked for induction and my waters broke on the day before (i didnt even have the chance to shave my legs) i gave birth to her in the early hours of the day of the induction and had a phone call from the idiots MWs in the delivery suite where i had given birth asking me why i didnt turn up for induction!! i invited the MW in question to visit me in the post natal ward for a visit to prove i had had DD she didnt come she just took my word for it
good luck
xx ei xx

MrsHappy · 02/12/2008 07:48

Woo hoo! Lots of luck Mibbes! I'm so very excited for you.

BTW, this is what happened to me with my DD. I was booked to be induced and woke up at 2am that day to find I was having mild contractions and it was the real thing. Just think - in the next day or two you will meet your baby!

at "rough as a cat's bum" Ei. I feel slightly queasy after that!

mibbes · 02/12/2008 06:19

induced

mibbes · 02/12/2008 06:18

Hello cyber-aunties-to-be ! I am booked in to be unduced this morning, however contractions started at midnight - almost the minute I got into bed ! Managed to sleep through 1.5 hours of them but now they are every 5 mins (although only last 30 sesconds). Got bored lying in bed so am up and about and so glad it has kicked off by itself - not convinced the contractions are sore enough though , these has better not he BH !! will keep you posted

HappyandEiknowit · 01/12/2008 15:37

hi ladies
JB oooh only 2 weeks ti wait for you im getting excited for you and mibbes bieng possibly about to birth her miblet its all go here
mrsH sorry your appointment has brought more bad news but FWIW i think this may be a good thing your consultant has given you a possible 'reason' for your eps which can now be fixed with any luck so you can now move on and have you much awaited bfp/preg/baby combo
hello to everyone else
im taking a duvet day today as DD has a chest infection and a bad cold and has passed the cold onto me so i feel as rough as a cats bum
still... only 24 sleeps left til crimbo so every cloud and all

MrsHappy · 01/12/2008 15:26

Picknmix I am sorry to hear you've been having such horrible dreams and hope that they are caused by something hormonal , as Ei suggests. DD is very excited about christmas, thanks for asking. She saw an ASDA christmas ad (the one with all of the christmas lights) on TV the other day and sighed and said "I want christmas now, Mummy". We're going to see Father Christmas next weekend - I really can't wait to see her face.

JB how exciting - not long to go now! It's extra nice that you know when your baby is coming. It sounds like we might all be cyber-aunties to a little Mibblet soon too.

Ei don't DH's have the best timing when it comes to going away over ovulation? On the bright side, it is when I thought that it was physically impossible for me to be pg that I got a BFP, so you never know... You do sound very philosophical - are you all getting excited about christmas?

Poor MOB, feeling sicker. I found that ginger beer was the cure all for that. Either that or (if you can bear it) flat coke. Hope something helps!

News from here is less than fantastic. The Dr looked at my HSG films and has suggested a hysteroscopy (basically a general anaesthetic, a camera up my foof and some scissors if they find anything to chop off). He is concerned that the filling defect is something (a polyp maybe) in my uterus that might have been acting as a coil and could have caused my ectopics. As I was seeing him privately I now have to go to my GP to get a referral so that BUPA will cover the cost, and the first time I could do it is around christmas (since it has to be between about day 6 and 11 of my cycle) so I guess I won't get my op until the middle of January. I know it sounds like no time at all but I constantly feel like my poor little daughter is going to be 15 before I get her a baby to play with. I so wish I could speed this up! Although half of me is thinking "be glad about what you have and forget ttc". If only I could...

JollyBear · 01/12/2008 14:44

Hello ladies,

mrsH Glad to hear that the HGC went well and that your tube is clean and clear . I agree with the others re the dangers of googling. If it was anything to be concerned about I'm sure they'd have mentioned it.

PnM What a horrible dream. Sorry you are having such a long cycle, they're so frustrating especially as you want to get your HGC over and done with. I hope ei is right with her predictions though

caitni Sorry to hear about your DH having been so poorly in the past. It sounds like his results are pretty good when you consider he's only got half the production mechanism. It does mean the chances are a bit lower but it is certainly doesn't rule out a natural BFP. Good luck this month!

ei I'm really pleased to hear that your job is going so well. Hopefully that egg will hang around for your DH to return!

MOB Ooooh 6 weeks already. When is your scan? Nausea this early is such a good sign .

I can give you a quick update on some of us December graduates...

mibbes has gone in for monitoring at her hospital today as she might have had some of her waters break last night. Very exciting! I'm sure she'll pop in and keep you all informed.

abby is booked in for a section the same day as me, the 15th December! I started my maternity leave today so I have 2 weeks to get organised/put my feet up till the big day.

HappyandEiknowit · 30/11/2008 22:15

hi ladies
sorry for being awol for a few days
caitni sorry your DHs SA results werent too good but as MOB says you will get your baby and if it does turn out to be the assisted conception route then it makes your baby so much more special and miraculous and you will WILL be mummy caitni one day soon
MOB yay for the sickness and symptoms when is your scan? for some reason i thought it was tomorrow
PnM what an awful dream just a thought though... for the first 12 weeks of my preg with DD i had the most horrific dreams where i would wake up sobbing maybe it is time to retest either to find out or rule out a possible BFP (i still have a space open from the last batch of predictions)
mrsH im glad the HGC went well and you are pristine so now lady step away from google and maybe discuss anything you are worrying about at your consultant appointment next week
hello to mibbes i hope you had a lovely time at the hairdressers il bet you are a yummy mummy
hi to everyone else lurking who i have missed
n ot much going on here cd12 for me so not the right time for ov yet but it looks as if DH will be working away again this week and by the time he gets back more than likely ov will have come and gone (sods law) but either way im trying to focus on us and our DD this month and maybe get back down to business after the new year as chrimbo is a mere 26 days away happy sunday night all

Madoldbird · 30/11/2008 19:47

Good evening ladies

Caitni Hope you and DH are ok & that you had a lovely weekend in Oxford. How was the thanksgiving meal?

MrsH NO MORE GOOGLING We'll have to ban you! I know it's easier said than done though, and i am terrible too, what ever is going on in my life has to be googled! I'm really glad you have an appt with the consultant tomorrow. You can then ask away about the bit they found in your uterus. Could it possibly be connected to the c-section? I was just thinking that any wound will heal to leave some scar tissue - which this could be?? Crumbs - i'd better shut up, i've just given you something else to google Will be thinking about you tomorrow, and look forward to hearing how it goes.

PnM Sounds like you have had an exhausting weekend. I hope your period turns up soon, so you can have your hsg before Christmas. It's horrible having such emotional dreams, isn't it? Frequently during ttc i used to wake up crying after various baby / pg related dreams. Ironically i haven't had any baby-type dreams in the last 2 weeks! (They are rather more "raunchy" now )

EI Hope you are ok?

Yes, like PnM I have been wondering how abbymeg & hatty are. Also thinking JB - it's not too long to go for you either, is it? Hope you are enjoying your last few weeks of peace and quiet

I have started feeling decidedly sick over the past couple of days. Mornings are worst, but it doesn't ease off much. I have to say, though, i really welcome it, as a sign that i am pg and the hCG is (hopefully) on the rise. Just counting the days until the scan.

PicknMix · 30/11/2008 18:27

Evening all,

I'm sorry to hear about your DH's test results Caitni, as MrsH says, prob best not to Google too much until you've spoken to your Dr about them. Not sure how it would work after what you're DH has been through but there are many things, diet wise, that can be done in order to improve sperm. My DH is on a diet of brasil nuts permanently and has stopped smoking, drinking (not completely but he has cut down to once a week) and takes folic acid and zinc tablets etc. I know it might seem futile but every little helps. Unless your DH already does all of this in which case please ignore me . Hope your weekend away takes your mind off everything a bit, xx

MrsH enough with the Googling !! Please wait until your appointment tomorrow before you panic too much, I do know how worrying it must be though so I really hope the Dr has some answers tomorrow. Is your DD getting excited about Christmas? It must be the first year she'll really understand it at her age?

MOB hows the symptoms? Hope all is going ok with you and your family! You always have such wise words for us all, thank you (in a hormonal soppy mood tonight!).

How are you doing Ei?

How are our pregnant ladies doing? Are you all prepped and ready and perfectly yummy mummyfied Mibbes??

Has anyone heard from Hatty or Abbymeg recently? Would love to know how they're doing

I've had a busy weekend, went to my Godsons 5th birthday yesterday then worked today. Am knackered and still no sign of period yet (cd38). At this rate they wont be able to fit my hsg in before Christmas and then who knows how long my next cycle will be!?

Had the most awful dream last night, woke up crying as had dreamt I was very pregnant and then had a miscarriage when thought I was going into labour. Think this is all getting too me far too much. Anyone know where the emotional 'off' switch is???

MrsHappy · 29/11/2008 13:43

Caitni I'm sorry to hear that your DH's results have put you into a spin. Be very careful about googling for this sort of thing. I googled after my DH's SA and on some of the categories would have wondered if all was well except that the consultant took one look at the results and said "no problem there". Re the sex every few days, if I were you I think I would make an appointment at a fertility clinic and see what they think. They might have a different view about how often to have sex (I have seen lots of different opinions on the internet) and they might know other things that could be helpful. You might be a great candidate for IUI, for example.

MOB how is the nausea? You must be having a scan soon - when is it?

Mibbes I bet you are looking suitably lovely to meet your baby.

I am feeling fine but have failed to follow my own advice and have been googling about that "filling defect" that came up on my test. I think it is either a septum (which must be pretty small since noone has ever mentioned it before even though I have had a c-section) or a fibroid. The latter could also explain the spotting which is making me worried. Oh well, I am seeing the consultant on Monday so will be able to ask him all of this. I just hope whatever it is does not hold us up in ttc. I feel like we've been trying forever...

Are you out there Picknmix?

Have a good weekend, everyone.

Caitni · 29/11/2008 09:52

MOB thanks so much for your response - it's much appreciated! I think my DH was worried about having no sperm, so this morning he seems a bit more pragmatic about his results. I think we will keep trying naturally (he's worked out how his results reduce our chances from the "20% for a healthy couple" - can you tell he's a maths whizz who works in IT??), while also going down the assisted conception route. We do have a chance of a natural BFP, but it's significantly lower than average, so I think I'd lose my mind waiting month after month for it to happen! Ironically, our one postive HPT result came after a holiday of everyday bd-ing. None of that for us anymore!

Anyway, I've got my driving lesson now and am then off to Oxford for the weekend so won't be back until tomorrow afternoon. We've got another Thanksgiving meal to look forward - I'll be rolling home to Brighton tomorrow!

Thanks again MOB and hope everyone has a good weekend

Madoldbird · 29/11/2008 06:44

Oh Caitni hope you and your DH are ok. I just had to answer asap and reassure you that, although not perfect, these results are not awful by any means. Infact considering what he has been through, i should think they are better than what may be expected. Tell him his one testicle must be a real hive of activity - that may cheer him up!

I'm sure Dr Google has informed you of what a "normal" sperm test should be. But just in case...
-Vol 3.2ml This is normal (looking for 2 - 5 ml)
-count 13million / ml. yes this is low. Guidelines look for 20 million and above. BUT they also look for a min. of 40 million per ejaculate, and if i've worked it out correctly, he has 41.6 million per ejaculate, so that testicle is working pretty well! So it is low, but not drastically low (e.g my DH had 0.7 million per ml)
-67% motility. Difficult to tell exactly on this one - guidelines state 50% forward progression, but even if some of the 67% are going the wrong way, this still looks pretty good!! (and the 25% rapid is the really good swimmers)

  • 84% abnormal. This looks bad, but it's not that bad. Most sperm are abnormal. I'm not sure of the current WHO guidelines for this, in some places it says 15% normal (so that would be fine) in others it says 30%. I think our consultant worked on the 15%.

Do beware of googling too much, though, as the guidelines do seem to vary out there, but as far as i am aware (and from what i remember from our initial consultation) these are the correct WHO levels.

So, yes, it does reduce your chances of a natural BFP, but it definitely could still happen. Every 2 - 3 days sounds like a good plan, to allow the count to build up to it's maximum each time. It sounds a good idea to explore the assisted conception route as well. You may feel better if you are out there making progress with that option as well, whilst at the same time still trying naturally. You did get a BFP a while back, remember, and though sadly it wasn't a sticky one, it shows it can happen. Assisted conception or natural - i'm sure you will get your longed for baby. I think what you do now will perhaps largely be down to you both as people - whether you are happy to sit back for a bit and hope that it happens the natural way, or whether you'd rather be more pro-active and getting on with assisted conception. Look after each other this weekend, take time to talk and come to terms with it. Big hugs to you both. XX

MrsH Hope you are ok and that you didn't have any pain yesterday.

Mibbes Bet you are looking gorgeous

Hope everyone else is ok & has a lovely weekend.

Caitni · 29/11/2008 00:10

Hi ladies

Just a quick message from me - just in from a Leonard Cohen concert. Totally amazing!

Anyway, not great news on my DH's SA - his results show oligospermia (low sperm count). He didn't get a copy of his results - they're being posted by the GP on Monday - but this is what he jotted down:
volume 3.2 ml
sperm count 13m/ml
67% motility
rapid progression 25%
84% abnormal morph

MOB what do you think of these? It's definitely not great, but he needs to do another SA before it's official (and I think he should book 15 mins/half an hour with a consultant when he gets the next results back so we've got an expert view, as our GP admits he's a bit clueless about this).

I suspected the results would be like this, since they insisted on him seeing the GP, but he was quite upset . I've reassured him that I would never blame him for us not conceiving yet - god knows, I could still turn out to have wonky tubes - so he hopefully won't stay upset too long.

He had testicular cancer - one testicle removed and some chemo - and one explanation is that his "better" testicle had the tumour, leaving him with less sperm production ability. Apparently, low sperm count is common in post-testicular cancer men for that reason (can you tell he spent some time with Dr Google this afternoon ). As I said to him, I'd much rather have him healthy but with a low sperm count than dead from lung or brain cancer (the most common secondary cancers with untreated testicular cancer ). We'll definitely keep trying naturally (now only bd-ing every two to three days), but I must say my expectations of a natural BFP are much lower now, and we're going to definitely investigate the assisted conception route in the new year...if we get a natural BFP then that's great but we're going to give mother nature a helping hand in any way we can!

Sorry for the me, me, me-ness of this ramble!

Mibbes hope you're all "just stepped out of the salon" ready to meet your baby .

And to everyone else.
xx

mibbes · 28/11/2008 09:06

Bucky so sorry you have left us hun, please pop back once in a while and let us know how you are - sending you big cyber hugs.

MrsH am so glad you had good news about super-shiny tube . It must be very difficult for you with EDD around now, I think we got BFP on the same day - my thoughts are with you hun xx

MOB 6 weeks ! It is lovely that your DH is being so involved , my DP has barely read a ting and I'm due in a week !

Going for pre-baby cut and colour today so hopefully come back all prep'd to be a yummy mummy

PicknMix · 28/11/2008 00:46

Very late so quick post to say how pleased I am that your hsg wasn't quite the ordeal google had led you to believe. Even more pleased to hear that your tube is in fab working order!! Hope you managed to have a relaxed evening on such s bitter sweet day, take care xx

Awwww Mob, I'm so pleased (still) that you are able to share this with your dh, he sounds so involved, can't believe you're nearly 6 weeks already

Hope the Lemsip does the trick Caitni, take it easy

Hi to all not mentioned by name!!

xx

Madoldbird · 27/11/2008 18:05

MrsH Glad to hear you are back in one piece, and that it wasn't too painful. Also very pleased to hear that the tube is in good working order. Excellent news Put your feet up and relax this evening, especially as it is a difficult date for you. Thinking of you. XXX

Caitni Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly as well. Hope you are able to put your feet up too. Get that lemsip out and make DH wait on you!

Hope everyone else is ok.

Mibbes thinking of you especially - not long to go now, i'm so excited for you

Caitni · 27/11/2008 15:31

MrsH yay! at your 100% clear tube!! I'm v happy for you . I'm sure today's been a hard day anyway, thinking what might have been, so it's good that your mind is now at ease about your remaining tube.

MOB nearly 6 weeks already!! I'm so glad that your DH is keeping you updated about how little beany is developing. I think it's such a good way for him to be involved

And to everyone else. Hope everyone's well. I woke up full of cold this morning and have a packed weekend ahead of me, including staying up in Oxford on Sat night. And already I'm pining for a lazy weekend under the duvet! Time to bring on the lemsip me thinks...

MrsHappy · 27/11/2008 14:30

Just a quick one to let you know that I am back from the HSG and it was not nearly as bad as people make out.
It was a bit uncomfortable when it took two attempts to get the catheter in a position that worked and then he left the speculum in which was not so much fun.
But the dye flowed very quickly through my one tube showing that it is perfectly clear ("100%" apparently).
I've just seen that my notes refer to a "small fibrous band" in my uterus but I refuse to worry about that unless someone tells me I need to!
Now I am having some medium cramps and a fair bit of spotting, but by tomorrow I expect to be totally normal again.
Today is when my first ectopic would have been due so I am very glad to have some positive news.
Hope you are all having a good day. Will be back this evening.

Madoldbird · 27/11/2008 09:50

PnM How frustrating to have an "inconclusive" scan. Though, as others have said, it means that there's nothing obvious which is causing a problem. What's the next step now? Is it back to the Gp?

EI Glad to hear things are good on the job front Now you have been put forward for training you are bound to get pg!!

MrsH Thinking of you today, and will be doing virtual hand holding through the procedure. I hope it is not too bad, do take it easy after. Hopefully it will flush out your tube, and that egg that is on it's way will glide through effortlessly in a few days. Take care. XX

Caitni Hope you are making all the necessary preparations for an "active" weekend

Not much to report here, apart from quite a bit of nausea this morning! Time seems to be going so slowly at the moment, as i am just longing to have the scan. I will be 6 weeks tomorrow, and DH (who has been reading a pregnancy book already) informs me that it / they now look like a seahorse

Caitni · 26/11/2008 23:19

MrsH I'm with PnM - step away from the google! Seriously though, I hope it's not too awful (but if it is, then please take the time off work!). We'll be here, cyber holding your hand . I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the dye shows your tube is nice and healthy . And earlier ovulation is definitely a Good Thing, as just think of it as your body giving itself more chances to get you the sticky little bean you deserve

PnM I wish you could be a cycle buddy too!

Mibbes I hope you're doing OK, as not long now til your little bubba makes his/her appearance!

Night night to everyone else
xx

PicknMix · 26/11/2008 21:58

Wow Ei thats fab about your job, well done!

MrsH you know better than all of us that google can sometimes be the route of all evil (can obviously sometimes be quite useful!). I will be thinking of you tomorrow, I will keep my fingers crossed that you'll be in and out again before you know it . Your cm theory sounds entirely plausible, deffo stick with that!

Check out all you cycle buddies, I feel a bit behind with my 35 day cycle (and still counting!)

MrsHappy · 26/11/2008 21:42

Hi all

PnM that's frustrating about the scan, but I guess if they can't see anything on there that probably goes a long way to ruling some things out IYSWIM.

Ei that's brilliant news that your job is going so well. Yay!

Are you well Caitni? Resting up in advance of your tiring weekend?? If I go the same way as last month I will ov on Monday too so hopefully we will be doing the 2WW together again.

Hope you and the bean(s) are feeling well today MOB.

I think I have figured out what is going on with my cycle... I have started ovulating earlier and so am getting EWCM even though it is only CD9 today, and I reckon the CM might be bringing blood with it that otherwise would stay put! That's my theory and I am sticking to it

I am getting v nervous about tomorrow. The internet is full of women claiming to have fainted from the pain of the HSG. Fortunately there are a couple of threads on here with people saying it is not fun but that it does not hurt. Thank goodness for MN - not generally given to hysterics!

Will report back tomorrow if I am not too horrified by it all...

Caitni · 26/11/2008 19:56

Ei congrats on the job front!! That's great news and I'm very happy for you . Also glad to have such good company as you and MrsH in this cycle .

HappyandEiknowit · 26/11/2008 19:50

hi ladies
PnM sorry you didnt get any more answers from your scan but im glad you had a positive experience anyway my job is going great they have put me forward for a business admin C&G apprenticeship and nvq course which i started yesterday
caitni im on CD7 i think so ye we are pretty much cycle buddies i feel like im in good company
mrsH sorry about the BFN but at least the strange bleeding isnt for the same reasons as last time so i am for the bfn but for the no prob part of iyswim good luck for tomorrow
hello to everyone else
xx ei xx
