I've just heard from the embryologist . Jeez, i am soooo jumpy today i nesrly fainted when the phone went!!!

Ok, this is what happened.....of the eleven eggs all were suitable for fertilisation (no duds ).

As of this morning, six have fertilised normally and are all the same size/continuing to divide . Due to my tuinnel vision about this, i have no idea if that's good or bad!? I think it's ok - the embryologist seemed quite pleased. I didn't want to compare myself to anyone and get stressed, so, deliberately, I have never really researched it!

Four didn't fertilise and one did fertilise, but was genertically abnormal (that'll be DH's fault )

She said they will grade them over the next 24 hours and see how they develop and transfer is scheduled for 9.30am tomorrow....

GorgonsGin · 25/02/2009 09:04

Morning ladies!

i am back in the office this morning, but think i should probably have taken the day off. My tummy is all swollen and I have bad period-type pains. I bumped into my horrid boss coming through the door (nickname = Delores Umbridge), who knew i would be off work yesterday with "health related issues" (that's as much as i am telling her) and the nosy cow kept asking questions "Are you feeling better today?" "What did you say was wrong with you....?"

MrsH - the embryologist is going to call me this afternoon with the news about how many of the eleven little blighters have fertalised and are looking healthy enough to progress to transfer, which may be as early as tomorrow. I am absolutely on tenterhooks today and can't concentrate at all [v. nervous emoticon].

Will post again later when i know more.

Hope everyone is happy and well,

GGx

MrsHappy · 25/02/2009 08:41

GG has the embryologist called yet? [nosy]

PicknMix · 25/02/2009 08:40

Morning everyone,

Will be quick as am supposed to be working but wanted to say a big WOWZERS to GG on your egg collection , sounds like they got a bumper crop! Hope the sedation has worn off a little now so you feel more human again.

Hi to everyone else, be back later xx

MrsHappy · 24/02/2009 15:50

Just a very quickie to say "YAY" for the 11 eggs, GG. Have a good rest.

Caitni · 24/02/2009 14:26

GG 11 eggs - woo hoo! That's fantastic (or should that be eggscellent ). It's a really good number, as when we went for our consultation at the Lister she talked about how at my age they'd hope to retrieve 8 eggs and anything over that's a bonus. Glad to hear you're taking it easy this afternoon. An afternoon nap sounds like the perfect way to recover from the sedation and stress

MOB much as I'd also love a strange cycle that was 9 months long (tis the stuff of my dreams after all!) I reckon my egg must have gotten nervous at making its screen debut at the scan and hung around a bit longer. It's just the sonographer's reaction was "oh wow, that egg's about to be released" so I really thought (based only on CM admittedly) that CD12 was when I ov'ed. Would have tried to fit in a bit more action if I'd known it was going to hang around a bit longer . It would be great if you could make the meet up, as I'd love meet you "properly" IYKWIM

Madoldbird · 24/02/2009 13:46

GG so pleased to hear you back and that it's all gone well. 11 eggs is very good. I've been thinknig about you all morning. Enjoy your rest this afternoon - i loved the spaced out feeling the drugs gave me!!!

Caitni at your strange cycle. I guess even if the egg was about to pop, it may have taken a few days to actual do it. (I am of course, secretly hoping that it turns into an extra long, 9 month cycle for you)

Bucky Thank you for finding me on FB! I am sadly lacking in friends at the moment!! How do i find the rest of you?? I didn't realise there was a meet up this weekend, I'll have to see what DH, DS & DD are up to, and then let you know.

Love to everyone else. XX

GorgonsGin · 24/02/2009 13:19

hello there, just a quickie post because I am at home again lying on the couch with a blanket and very sleepy

MOB - two little boys!! I am all excited and happy for you and hoping that some of your good fortune rubs off on me!! Are you coming to th emeet up?

I think it went well this morning - at least I hope so! Much quicker than I thought because we were first on the operating list. They got 11 eggs I think that is quite good....? . I over heard the lady in the bed next to me (couldn't help but hear - it's the NHS so packed in like sardines with only a curtain between us) and she was undergoing her fourth cycle . they got 9 eggs from her though so that has to be good news.

It interested me because by the sounds of it, she had undergone three cycles of private IVF already. I assume they ran out of money and joined the NHS queue, which in my health authority doesn't ban you from NHS treatment like in some places.

The egg transfer will probably be on Thurs or Fri - I get the call from the emryologist tomorrow to find out if they have fertiliased, how many and next steps. DH said he did his best to produce the best sample he could, so fingers crossed.

Looking forward to the meet up at the weekend . Thanks for organising Bucky

I'll catch up on all your posts and respond properly to everyone's news later when I wake up, 'cause I'm nodding off here .

Caitni · 24/02/2009 11:52

Bucky you are an organisational genius!! I saw your note on FB and was racking my brains and couldn't get further than Lemonia (my knowledge of primrose hill is sadly lacking). But now you say the Engineer and I suddenly remember that I had a tremendous lunch there with colleagues a while ago. Great choice. Can't wait to see everyone (though we'll miss all you non-attendees )

Bucky2008 · 24/02/2009 11:25

Just dropping in quickly to say I have booked a table at the Engineer for Saturday. I had to change the time to 13.00pm, hope this is OK.

MOB I have requested you as a friend on FB so that if you want to come I can add you to the attendees.

I have booked for 5, Caitni, GG, PnM, DG and Me. Ei, let me know if you are coming, MrsH is on hols...Did I miss anyone?

Caitni · 24/02/2009 10:47

Morning ladies

GG I hope the egg collection goes well and it's not too painful. I hope they retrieve a good number, and even more importantly I hope the ICSI goes well. I'm going to be checking here obsessively later and tomorrow to see what your news is .

Bucky that is absolutely fab news about your PCT's better funding! Am as our PCT is rubbish (one attempt, waiting list of a year) and annoyingly our GP is actually in Islington PCT which has much better funding and waiting lists . Still, I'm resigned to doing our first attempt privately anyway as there's no way my sanity would surive a year's wait...

MrsH good idea getting booked in early - it means you can enjoy your holiday without that added worry . And the sickness is definitely a good sign...roll on three weeks for your scan!

MOB so lovely to see you - and baby boys!! How wonderful! I'm very glad to hear the pregnancy's going well

Waves to PnM & RFN2&3

So I'm having the strangest cycle ever, as am now on cd 26 and on second day of very light spotting. Since I had an ultrasound on CD11, which showed an egg almost ready to pop, I really thought I'd ov'd on CD12 so was expecting a normal 24 day cycle. I've never had a cycle longer than 24 days except when I had the CP in Sept...Of course, despite my promise to myself not to, I did a FR this morning and BFN (I was even though rationally I know that our likelihood of natural conception is so low...). I'm going to chart next month as I need to get my FSH, LH & Oestradiol tested on day 2-5 so I want to be sure when things are happening! Wish my body wouldn't mess with my head like this, though I bet typing this has made my period show up!

Anyway, got to run this was supposed to just be a quick post to wish GG luck as I've got heaps on at work at the moment!

caitni xxx

MrsHappy · 24/02/2009 07:42

Lots of luck for this morning GG. I hope they eggstract lots of eggs, that they are all eggcellent and that the process is not uncomfortable. Let us know how you get on.

I hope MrGG is able to do his part (sure he will be). Actually one of my biggest concerns when we were considering AC was that if we did IUI my DH would have to visit the wanky porn room and produce every 5 weeks or so. When I told him he would need to do that he asked could he not just go once and the clinic freeze some! My face did this: .

LMAO at the copious quantities of CM. Perhaps you should take a photo and put it on the internet to make those os us who produce normal amounts paranoid!

I'm glad to hear everything is going well MOB, and how nice to have twin boys. Now you can get on with only thinking of boy names...

We're counting down to our holiday on Friday. I still need to get out my summer clothes, check they still fit (I am lardy these days) and make sure I have everything I need. But somehow since I stopped working it is awfully hard to motivate myself!

Yesterday I saw the local midwife to get boooked in the system. It is a bit soon but sometimes London hospitals get full a bit quickly and I wanted to make sure everything was in okace before my hols. She's booked me into our local hospital (which is not the one where I go for the EPAU but which is far more convenient). Either way the EPAU that I go to is going to give me a scan in three weeks to check everything is still going ok. I am feeling quite sick a lot of the time so I hope that is a good sign.

Higs to everyone I haven't mentioned. I hope you are all well.

Madoldbird · 23/02/2009 13:24

Hello everyone

Wow! What a lot of news to catch up on!!! As ever, apologies from me for being absent, but was on holiday last week, and had a frantic week at work before i went.

MrsH I am so so happy to hear your news, and especially that the little bean is in the right place! I can't describe how delighted i am for you. I bet you and DD are excited to be going off on holiday together, and it means that the time will hopefully fly by until your next scan.

GG Welcome back! Lovely to see you, and hear all about your IVF. It seems 5 minutes since we were doing all that. I have everything crossed for your EC tomorrow. If you want to ask me anything about it, then go ahead, i will pop in and check the thread through the rest of the day.It is very understandable about how your DH is feeling. My DH was really anxious about "performing" on the day as well. In the end he got it over with really quickly, but i know he was worried at the time. I am a bit at the clinic questioning the fact that he is not there for every single appt - TBH my DH only came along for the initial consultations, then for the EC & ET days. I didn't see any point in us both taking leave for all the scans etc. So don't let them make him feel bad!! I would say that booking a holiday would be a good thing for after ET, or at least planning lots to do to keep you occupied, as i found that to be the worst bit of IVF - the waiting. Anything that will take your mind of things and make time go quick would be good.

EI I am so sorry to hear of your loss. . You, your DH & all your family are in my thoughts. Look after yourselves.

RFN2&3 Congratulations on your news!! All the best people have twins

Caitni Hope things are ok with you, and you and your DH are settling into your new home. Hopefully life is less pressured without all the commuting. I am impressed with your water drinking, infact, i had to get myself a glass when i read your post, as i felt guilty that i don't drink enough!

Bucky Glad you had a good holiday, although for the BFN. I would really echo what everyone else has said about IVF taking pressure of the relationship. It means that shagging really can become shagging again!! I really pleased to hear that you would get a decent go at ivf should you require it. i'm sure your DP will come round to the idea, given time.

PnM I am still so at the limbo you are in, with the investigations etc. It just doesn't seem fair. Or rather, it ISN'T fair. I wish i could wave a magic wand and make it all better. I would also like to confirm that chocolate, garlic bread with cheese, more cheese, wine, etc is definitely a balanced diet!! Good luck with losing 2 stone, but don't give up all those things which keep us all sane

Well, as i said, we we away last week. We had a lovely week in the New Forest. Such a lovely part of the country, and fairly close to where i grew up, so plenty of opportunites for remeniscing (sp???) as well. I am now 18+3, so time is going scarily fast. For valentines day, as a surprise for DH, i went to have a private scan. We now have a DVD and loads of great pictures, including some of the 4D ones. It also appears that they are both little boys!! DS is of course delighted - DD was rather put out, until i pointed out that she will be the only girl, and therefore extra special!

Bucky2008 · 23/02/2009 11:48

You must be there already, but hope all goes well GG and have a good holiday MrsH. .

OP posts:
GorgonsGin · 23/02/2009 11:33

sorry, must check posts before pressing "go" so I finish sentences

I meant to say that I am wearing dreadful old rags because I am really hoping I will not be buying regular ladies sizes for a while and will have to buy pregant pady clothes

Oh god, MUSTN'T get my hopes up too high

GorgonsGin · 23/02/2009 11:28

MrsH- LOL at the pretence around pasturised cheeses and caffeine free coffee. At least because your friend is preganant that you didn't have to request it or avoid the whole cheese board (a tragedy - cheese is my FAVOURITE ever as evidenced by my recent weight gain ). So exciting about your little bean - do you have another scan when you are back from SA? I am sure your house will be fine while you are away - do you have family/the nanny or a neighbour who can pick up the post and look in for you?

i know what you man about not buying clothes - i am wearing dreadful old rags on the basis I don't want to

My ovaries fell VERY full actually . Whether they actually are or not is another matter, but I can hope . It actually hurts to walk. Every time i put my heel down when i walk i feel a jolt inside because they are so enlarged, i guess, so I am tip toeing about and looking daggers at men on the Tube in the hope they would give a hopefully-pregant-woman-undergoing-IVF-with painful-ovaries a seat . I bought a baggy dress on Saturday to wear to a party, because I simply couldn't wear the dress I had - my tummy was so swollen that I looked about 5 months preggers and was so scared people would try to congratulate me or something awful . I also had to hold a glass of wine all night and not drink it (ok, I had a sip or two) but again, i really don't want people assuming ANYTHING at the moment.

This might be in the realms of waaaaaayyy TMI, but can I just say that the quantity of EWCM you get on this Ovitrelle stuff is astonishing . Ovulation x 14 levels

I think poor DH is now getting performance anxiety about tomorrow, bless him. I'll be jacked up in the stirrups at 10am and he'll have to trot off to the wanky porn room with a pot an dhave 10 minutes to do his bit in pretty unromantic suuroundings. If we conceive, we intend to point out the grotty gents lav and laboratory where they were conceived to our off spring

Oh dear...a me me me post again. Sorry all.

Come back everyone and post your news and keep my mind off tomorrow.

ei - hope you are ok and your DH is bearing up.

GGx

MrsHappy · 23/02/2009 07:44

Morning all

GG how did the jab go? Do you feel like your ovaries are all full up and ready to go? I think we all find the AC stuff really interesting, so if you want to go on about it do go ahead.

PnM I hope work is not too knackering. at your lose two stone plan. I know I could stand to lose a couple but whenever I try I lose about 10 lbs or so and then think "that's good enough" and fall of the wagon. Not that I am allowed to diet anymore of course . The nausea is mild and comes and goes so is perfectly manageable, but then I am only just 5 weeks and 3 days so there's plenty of time for that!

Ei I am sorry your period arrived, although more regularity does sound like a good thing. that you and your DH are having a tough time, and I hope it gets better soon.

Bucky Hurrah for different IVF rules. I hope your post-holiday come down has not been too bad.

Hello Caitni and MOB. Are either of you about?

Well, all is well here. I spent yesterday visiting some friends. We did not tell them our news since it is waaaay too early, but I am sure they have figured it out. She is pregnant and so on water, caffeine free coffee and pasturised cheese. And of course, without saying as much, so am I. I couldn't suppress a chuckle when the cheese board hit the table and the husband pointed out which cheese was pasturised to me. Ho hum.

DD and I are getting ready to skip of to SA on Friday. I am pretty excited and hoping my little house will be ok while I am gone. I suppose I ought to buy some more summer clothes but I can't be bothered, especially not given that come august I will hopefully be the size of a house (well, a small cottage maybe).

GorgonsGin · 22/02/2009 20:27

Bucky - fantastic news about your local health authority. You are really lucky to have that on your doorstep! . Where are we going for the WIMBEWAIF meet up next week?

picknmix - great to "see" you back on the thread. i don't think you had an outburst at all, just a mini meltdown which is totally allowed round here ! I should definitely be on a diet - I'm feeling fat and frumpy, but I don't have to motivation of a wedding! What is your bridesmaid dress like? I bet you will look lovely.

Ovitrelle is the magic bullet injection IVF-ers take to prime for egg collection. It means you have 36 hours before your egg collection and it induces the artificial luteal phase (so I guess that means I am at the mercy of the speculum at 10am on Tuesday ). I have a little over an hour until I have to take it [nervous emoticon]. It will be my last one before all the BIG things start happening. I am feeling really jumpy this evening about the end being in sight IYKWIM

caitni MrsH - hope you are both having a lovely weekend.

Oooo, got so sidetracked during writing that message I totally crossed posts with you Bucky .

Thats FAB news for you - yay indeed

PicknMix · 21/02/2009 23:03

apologies for going awol...

Wow, MrsH, am so chuffed that bean is in the right place - I did lurk to make sure that your scan went well but haven't had time to post before now (ridiculous week at work). How's the sickness? Well done for CBD resistance that way doth poas madness lie.

All seems to be happening so quickly for you GG, don't apologise for sharing your IVF experiences - am fascinated in it all. What is Ovitrelle? (apologies, am a novice in IVF terms!)

Am impressed with the water consumption Caitni - I'm rubbish at drinking water, always have to drink squash but drink it really weak (to fool myself into thinking thats just as good ). Do drink about 2ltrs a day but it turns me into a champion pee'er!

to hear af arrived for you Ei but I love the idea of your DH's grandfather being able to show your future LO the way. Hope you and DH are ok? Good about the normal af, tell her to pee off so you can get back on that wagon..

Where's my sht-body-buddy gone??? Hope you're having a good weekend Bucky*? And you, get fat? As if. Speaking of which, I have the best of intentions to lose a whole 2 stone by April 11th (I'm gonna be a bridesmaid for my sister), its not quite going according to plan though. Apparently, chocolate, garlic bread with cheese, wine, more cheese and may be a bit more chocolate doesn't constitute a healthy balanced diet?! Who knew??!

Apologies for outburst the other day. All got too much for me.

Anybody heard from MOB recently??

Bucky2008 · 21/02/2009 22:38

Thinking of you Ei it's just nice to hear from you and know you are soldiering on. [higs].

GG don't be silly, of course we don't mind you talking about your stuff....you're an original shanger....xx

Me, nothing to report, just taking my last Clomid tab today CD6. I went to the doc for my blood test results and she informed me that the rules change as of April in Herts and I will be eligible for either 3 egg collections and transfers on the NHS, or upto 6 transfers if you get loads of successfully fertilised eggs on one of your collections! How amazing is THAT!! I was worried that if I do embark on IVF I would go through all of that only to MC and then my chance would be gone....but at least now there is hope! Yay .

GorgonsGin · 20/02/2009 21:50

hello everyone,

caitni - they'll take eggs from either/both ovaries. They'll take whatever is there and ripe. Apologies for not being more scientific and specific, but I have deliberately (for my own sanity) chosen not to research too much about all the possibilities and nuances. It's too much, I think. I'm a lawyer and with my personality, I'd be round the twist, obsessing over detail if i knew too much, IYKWIM? That's purely me and how I feel and I realise that it may sound irrational when there is so much at stake, but sanity is imoprtant too and I have been very good about not Googling!!! The relative lack of information keeps me on a(relatively) straight edge!

I have noticed that some doctors talk you through everything, molecule by molecule and others turn the screen away and say "fine" after scans. I had a worry that you'd all think that I'm hijaking the thread for assisted conception stuff, so you all have to PLEASE tell me to shut up if that's the case. I am so pleased to be amongst regular TTC-ers .

hello to everyone else

GGx
