As others have said, there doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason for high bloods, but loads of people (Mandy is the expert) have statistically high bloods, but then that doesn't mean the baby is Downs. There's nothing that will put your mind at rest until Monday really.
I know what you mean about being detached from baby after MC - I think I'm still doing that until next fri, or maybe I'm kidding myself I am. Although of course you said you were feeling like that, then you let yourself get attached after the scan, then they phoned you the next day - so difficult for you, as you'd thought you could relax, then to hear the next day!

Oh Dawn - I'm really feeling for you and can offer no words of comfort as I have no persoanl experience of what you are going though.

I am sure that given your nuchal test, all will be well. However, the only way to be sure is to have the test on Monday. I know it will be pointless (and seems crass) for me to say try not to dwell on things until then, but please don't make yourself ill with worry.

We are all here for you until then (and of course once you have the result) - lots of love coming yours and dh's way xx

Dawn my sweet, please stop looking for answers as you won't find any. There was no reason for my high risk results and I doubt you will ever know why yours are high. I am so sorry you have to wait until Monday as it will give you more time to worry. {{hugs}}

Hi All,

I wondered if I can ask another question to those of you that have had an amnio or cvs because of being classed as high risk... My nuchal fold results came back well within the normal range at only 1.9mm. In addition, the nasal bone was clearly visible which the Sonographer said at the time, babies with Downs rarely have, so what can actually be the problem with my blood because I'm guessing that is what tipped me into high risk?

Can you tell I'm dwelling? Struggled to think about anything else today...

Thanks so much for all your kind thoughts.

Had a really bad night last night. I had terrible nightmares about the procedure. One of them involved the Sonographer not being available so the Consultant asking me to tell him where I thought the baby was and he'd just stick in the needle!! I woke up in a cold sweat and then couldn't get back to sleep.

Mandy, thanks for the advice. I'm just going to ask the Consultant outright how many CVS procedures she's done and what her miscarriage rate is. With this procedure I refuse to just "assume" that she knows what she's doing.

I'd almost been quite detached from this baby since the last MC, but now I'm desperately scared that I will lose it.

Sorry, I'll stop everything being about me now....

DD, please don't get disheartened. It will happen again for you soon, I'm sure.

Majormoo, thanks for your post. Did they do the CVS in through your abdomen or internally? I'm not quite 13 weeks yet so worried that they may want to do it internally, which has a slightly higher MC risk. Plus, I've always bled really really badly during smear tests so I would imagine this could cause me some problems. Also isn't opening the cervix up so that they can get the needle/tube through, going to cause a MC in itself?

Ceebee - hope Sam is better soon. Sunbathing in the conservatory sounds great . Dd had jaundice when she was born, and the best advice was just to keep feeding as much as possible. Good luck with it.

BSL - Tara sounds lovely. How cute - only the size of a golf ball, good job they don't move quick or you'd never find her Thanks for your kind words - I am doing fine, feel that I am over the worst although every now and again something will catch me out and I'll get again. A girl at work had a mmc a few weeks before mine and has just discovered she is pg again. I am over the moon for her, but too which I feel so bad about. Had a proper good cry after I spoke to her yesterday. Hope you are keeping as positive as much as you can. Feel free to flounce whenever the mood takes you

AF late according to FF but did a test and BFN. Obviously in for another weird cycle. Feel so disappointed as at DPO 15 it should be a definite result. Will keep waiting.

Dawn so sorry for what you are having to go through - as if you have not been through enough eh?? Lots of wise words from experienced people on here but, from me, plenty of hugs and positive thoughts Please come and 'talk' to us and get things off your chest.

Had another good nights sleep last night - Sam just wanted feeding at 1.30 and 5 but went straight back to sleep both times! MW recommended stripping him to his nappy and putting him in the conservatory (with the heat on very high obviously!) to expose as much skin to as much daylight as possible to try and shift the jaundice - so he is now 'sunbathing' whilst I am MNing

Mandy - your words ring so true...why not us!! I can honestly say I just never dreamt that I would be someone who needed help and fertility treatment...I've thought 'why me' from time to time...but you're right...'why not'? The strange thing is that us wanting to be parents so badly means you do just cope with whatever situation is thrown at you.

Dawn - hun! You can get through this and I am praying very hard for you and Knax...that the risk score and strange scan still result in lovely healthy babies for you both!! Dawn , I am sorry your DH is taking things hard...but you both deserve to be parents and have a lovely DC!

Dawn I know it doesn't feel like it now but there are several silver linings to your cloud;
Your odds really are very good compared to mine,
you'll have a busy consultant who performs loads of CVS procedures to do it which will minimise both the MC risk (tiny to start with) and your discomfort (MC risk changes enormously with experience!),
and
the discomfort is numbed by the cold spirit they put on your tummy beforehand,
plus if you are able to relax completely.

Just make sure you have the rest of the day in bed and take is v easy the following day.
I also understand how your DH is feeling; everybody responds to the shock at different speed and when I was down my DH was often v optimistic and vice versa - v hard to comfort each other at times but you must try.
And yes, you do feel robbed of the innocence and optimistic expectations of the earlier days (we say we were 'happy fools' back then just assuming naively it wouldn't happen to us - but thinking about it, why not us?).
But I think in the end when we have our babies we will appreciate the experience so much having been so close to despair. Also, pregnancy is supposed to be such a state of bliss - but it really isn't like that for many people.
As a friend who has lost two babies said; "Pregnancy really truly sucks you know."
(She meant psychologically.)

willmouse-nice to see you. My FF registration runs out in 57 days so it has been 12 months plotting anyway. Will still be here next Christmas at this rate.

Dawn - sorry to hear about your test result - but 1 in 59 is still a reasonably low chance (imo) I hope that all goes well for you.

Ceebee - hope that little Sam is better soon. I never realised that jandice made babies sleepy. I remember that SIL used to put nephew in the sunlight but it's not really that easy at this time of year is it?

HC - lie and say you have been ttc for over 12 months - its not worth the risk - you have been really - if not in body then in mind!

You know what? I can't belive I have been on this thread for a year now. I remember joining a "who's going to ttc after Christmas thread" and hey ho a year later I am still here ttc "after Christmas". Actually, I am remarkably calm by my standards taking all things into account bet it all changes tomorrow

Dawn sorry your results are worrying. Chances are everything will be just fine-odds are still on your side. As you will know, I have had bad news from screening in the past but my odd were much much higher than yours and in fact, they knew from the scan. The CVS was just to confirm what we all already knew. The procedure is uncomfortable and stressful but really very quick and afterwards the discomfort does not last long. If you want any advice prior to the testing I would give ARC a ring as they are fantastic and can give lots of practical and emotional support.

Ceebee my sister's son had jaundice and she had the same problem-told to feed frequently but he was very sleepy. He ended up under a lamp for a day or so but was soon fine.

MJIM glad all going well for you. No we do not know whether this is a boy or girl so wil have to see!

Did you have the CVS or the Amnio? I'm only 12 weeks so they're doing the CVS. I just want to know ASAP...

Dawn-they had me in the next day. Why the wait as it is surely torture. My high risk came with the pregnancy following my MC and it does make you wonder why? {{hugs}}

Mandy - I spoke to the hospital and we're booked in for Monday at 12.30pm for the CVS. The midwife said that it is quite an uncomfortable procedure and slightly more uncomfortable than the Amnio, but I'd just like to know sooner rather than later. There's also a slightly higher risk of an MC. We're just so scared and like most people I'm sure, wondering why us?

The sad thing is that DH is taking this really hard and saying that after the MC, he doesn't know that having a baby is the best thing for us after all the problems that we're having.

Anyway, time for a few more tears so I'd better go....

Dawn big hugs to you and DH. I am so very sorry. As you know we just been through the exact same scenario only our odds were 1:3 so there were no doubts about going through with further testing (only I couldn't have a CVS due to posterior placenta so the wait became very long indeed).

What can I say - it's a living nightmare. But you will get through it. Our bodies and minds are amazing during crisis like this and you just have to take one hour at a time.

Please don't feel guilty if you have further testing. It should be the last thing on your mind.

Dawn - Honey!! I am so sorry! I can't help about the choice of tests...but I am praying very hard that all is okay and your little jellybean is fine and this is just a blip based on age and due date etc!!!

Dawn-my friend had results of 1:50 and I had 1:195 and like you was distraught. You have absolutely made the right decision to go and have a chat with the consultant and have an amnio once you have had a detailed scan. Our babies were fine but found out that the risk odds are figures put into the computer and include your weight, due date and age. My friend discovered that they had put in her due date incorrectly which gave her the 1:50 risk. When are you going? You can pay for a FISH test which means you get the preliminary results back in 2 days. {{hugs}}-I remember the sheer terror of finding the note from the MW shoved through the letter box when I got home from work.

ceebee-jaundice is very common isn't it. Bless him. Took 1 year to conceive Emma as was new to it all and didn't realise you could only get PG on certain days. The one I MC took 3 months and then Sophie took another 3 months but was much younger then. AF hasn't started yet but keep knicker checking.

Hi guys,

I've had some bad news today which has upset DH and I terribly.

The hospital phoned to say that my results are high-risk for Downs. We're so devestated.

I know that there are risks for both tests and we've decided to go for the CVS as I can have it done now. Have we made the wrong choice?

The risk has come back as 1:59...
