GYo - before I forget, hope all goes well tomorrow. What time is your scan?

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 20:10

Am now watching Friends (again!)
So good!!

calsworld · 04/09/2008 20:05

LOL Ses - I think you're the same as me! I'm def. in the 'stop moaning' camp when it comes to headaches and the like... it bites me on the bum sometimes though , like when I'd got BFP but too early to tell anyone, moaning about a headache but not wanting to take anything for it!

Re takeaways, I'm not actually sure what the official advice is - just make sure you're not eating stuff that might not be cooked or might have been kept in one of those open air fridges (like coleslaw etc). I'm sure I was told to avoid deli counters too....

GYo - do you know anything about this?

calsworld · 04/09/2008 19:58

Evening GYo - I'm not sure about bright he's only 20 months old - although she did say he was good at pairing animals . His favourite words are currently 'no' and 'oh no', the latter said very dramatically like there's been a big disaster - normally when he's dropped something or broken something . I like him to have fun though and think going up to the bigger class where he can have more independence will be good for him.

Your work is inconsiderate. I missed you today!

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 19:54

Hi GYo!

Cal - thanks, will be careful. Didn't realise it was a bit of a no no

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 19:52

Don't worry Cal - you've helped.
I'm no good at sympathy either in RL - I tend to get v frustrated with people who don't help themselves,
eg: "I've got a headache and I feel awful."
Ses - have you taken any painkillers?
"No, I don't want to. Oh, I feel so awful"
Ses sympathy goes out the window at this point!
I'm worst with my mum who always seems a huge drama queen to me. The other month she phoned me on a Sunday afternoon saying she had a bad chest infection (to be fair she sounded like she did) but asked me to take her up to A&E as she felt so bad and took her nightie and wash bag with her "in case"! Needless to say they referred her to the walk in centre and sent her home with antibiotics!
There you go, a topic that will always distract me - my mother!

GYo · 04/09/2008 19:51

Cal- I didnt know that about takeaways..

Is it same risk as undercooked meat etc?

Certainly not read about that!

GYo · 04/09/2008 19:50

oooh and Ses, great about getting positive comments at work... always a good thing

Hi Ses
Sorry to hear you were feeling a bit blue... reckon is completely normal to be worried with your m/cs previously....

Getting under some kind of medical care, either GP for the thyroid or Midwife might make you feel less alone...

Hope DH comes home soon and wraps you up in his arms and looks after you. x

Cal- exciting about your DS going up a class- hope that helps.. sounds like you've got a bright LO there

Gruff- how did it go telling the family about being PG...

Diege- sore fanjo?? I need to re-read this afternoons posts...

Work inconsiderately meant I had to attend meetings rather than reading MN working quietly at my desk.....

Hi glask, Dal and anyone else...

OP posts:
calsworld · 04/09/2008 19:47

Lol at your DH - sounds about as desperate as mine to squeeze in a plea for favours

Not wanting to be a scaremonger and quite happy to be told not to be so daft, but be careful with takeaways - make sure its piping hot won't you? I got a right bollocking off my MW after letting on I'd had one.

calsworld · 04/09/2008 19:45

I think what you've said makes absolute sense and you're not rambling at all...just talking out the thoughts in your head.

I can totally understand your fears but think that the plans you have made are appropriate given your problem with your thyroid and previous history.

IMO, I do think its worth pushing for an early scan, even if they can't see a heartbeat, they can still check that everything looks like its an order and appropriate for the stage you're at, can't they. I know a scan is scary for but its because it tells the truth and I think that's what you need.

Pains are normal, as are the tears, and in your case so are the fears. Take it easy tonight, drink lots and lots of fluids coz you'll need to replace what you've lost crying as well it being good for you anyway.

Wish I was better at sympathy but I'm kind of known for being a bit naff....my friends take the piss because of it - my words may not be eloquent but know that I don't think you're being irrational or stupid and would give you a hug if I could.

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 19:44

DH has just come home. He's agreed we can get take away this evening as I'm feeling too shattered to do anything else.
His suggestion (in jest) was to give him sexual favours to take my mind off things! I passed....

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 19:42

Thanks Cal - it helps in trying to persuade me that it's my hormones and that the logical side of me needs to try and get some strength to override my emotions.

calsworld · 04/09/2008 19:33

I've got some quotes for you...

"With all of the hormonal changes mood swings in early pregnancy are a common occurrence, laughing one minute crying the next, from happy go lucky to irritated and angry for no apparent reason these are normal mainly during the first trimester of pregnancy."

"One of the first signs of pregnancy include fatigue, often times extreme, headaches and mood swings. Your emotions might seem out of whack. If you feel like crying for no reason, it's ok. Go ahead and cry. Your partner will understand as long as he knows he's not responsible."

"Mood swings

Mood swings may be a sign of being pregnant. Your hormones are in an uproar remember? You may find yourself very emotional and crying alot. A TV show may make you cry that normally wouldn't.

These hormone changes can also cause the stereotypical food cravings (or aversions) - the thought of your favorite meal may make you sick to your stomach. You may have this urge to eat things you used to find totally gross."

Does that help at all??

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 19:29

Thanks Cal. It's one of those times when I know I'm being stupid but that doesn't change my emotions.
I was going to phone and get an appointment with GP anyway tomorrow as she'll need to refer me to endocrine consultant as I have an underactive thyroid (last time they trebled my dose!) and also just want MW and scan as soon as poss. I know though that it's probably pointless going for a scan until about 7 weeks as I want to be able to hear a hb. That's a whole 3 weeks away!
The EPU said to phone them when I got pg again and they would scan me early.
Than I start thinking about going for a scan again and that just freaks me out. With all the complications during April - June I had 4 scans and have never seen a live baby with a hb yet. I think part of the problem is I'm not sure that will ever happen for me. The cure will be to get a successful one but that's not guaranteed and will not be for 3 weeks..

Sorry am rambling now and going round in circles...

calsworld · 04/09/2008 19:22

Oh ses, sorry, it took me so long to type that out I missed your post . Its really, really understandable that you feel like you do and I don't think its at all insensitive to post here.

I'm fairly sure you're right that now is a classical time for you to be experiencing all sorts of weird hormonally driven moods...when i had my booking in I burst into tears and MW said that was a good sign . However, having said that, if you're at the point where the only thing that will reassure you is a check-up then perhaps you could phone your GP's surgery tomorrow and ask for an early appt. with the MW. I think you should get seen sooner because of your history...failing that, can you get in touch with your EPU?

I'm sure everything is fine, try to take it easy and I'm sure someone far wiser than me will be along - but I'm still here....

calsworld · 04/09/2008 19:17

Hi guys on a similar theme (i.e. only sort of relevant, but please humour me ) to put an 'anti' spin on the PN depression - since having DS I have been able to come off anti-depressants, which I've been on for years prior...and not just because they were habit, I really did need them. I had to take them all through pregnancy too...now, even after mc, I really feel so much better - I really wish I'd had DS years ago!

Glask, really glad your medicine is working, it must be such a relief to feel 'normal' again. On the plus side, at least you can afford to indulge in the 'naughtier' foods and not worry too much about your weight!

Diege - LOL at your sore fanjo , sorry!

Tink, bummer about your albums but good job you realised sooner rather than later.

DS has been getting very grumpy this last week or so and I was worried that it might be because of picking up 'vibes' from home, together with some disruptive nights (incl. midnight trips to doctors and a&e) but his primary carer at nursery took me aside tonight and said she thinks its because he's bored. She explained that he's now one of the oldest in his current group as the others have gone up to the next class. I didn't even realise! She thought I'd be hesitant about putting him up , which I thought was a little odd, but we've agreed that she will try and arrange a couple of 'trial' sessions for him. I'm quite excited for him .

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 19:09

Don't know if anyone's around but I just need to offload....
Apologies in advance if anything I'm about to type is insensitive / irrational / plain stupid...
Don't know why but suddenly got really tearful this afternoon. I was sitting in a meeting this afternoon and suddenly got a pain in the left side of my back. It was only there for about 5 minutes and I managed to convince myself I had an ectopic. Then when the pain stopped I've spent the rest of the day thinking about the liklihood of something going wrong again. Spent the last half hour of my drive home with tears coming down my face and am tearful again now.
I know it's likely to be my hormones making me feel this but I'm suddenly more than scared about something going wrong as I just don't think I'd be able to cope at all.
I also know it's stupid to get upset and worried about something that's not happened yet but I can't help it.
DH has just phoned - he's driving home - but I oculdn't hear him properly on his hands free. He'll be home in about 45 mins and will probably just tell me I'm being silly.

I'm really sorry I just needed to get this off my chest and didn't know where else to let it out. I'm sorry to those ttc as I know I'd have given my right arm 2 weeks ago to be where I am now but I don't know how to snap myself out of this this evening.

Other than that, I've had a really good day at work and got some really good feedback about how I'm doing in my new job.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 04/09/2008 17:23

and dal- dont be put off by my PND please!! i'm pretty sure the health visitor and GP were too quick to diagnose mild PND than thinking it could just be adjusting to 2 children... i feel adding a 3rd will be fine though, especially as both DC's are old enough to fully understand.... and help

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 04/09/2008 17:21

its a medicine, and its working fine thanks!! I'm almost back to full health so to speak... i'm still weighing a few lbs less than i did before being pg, but feeling well enough to eat 3 meals a day... have only been sick once since being on it, and got my second bottle today to keep me going for the next week!!

Diege · 04/09/2008 17:15

Hi Glask! That's interesting about the dynamics between your 2. DD1 for us was a 'difficult' baby, v.colicky and bad headaches after a botched ventouse, so dd2 who was 'easy' didn't seem such a shock. Intersting too about PND - I also had that after dd2, and not the others. Hope we've not put Dal off! .
How are the anti-sickness tabs working btw?
