Does sound like you need to say something then if she keeps re-emphasising. Maybe next time she says something say something like "You have made that clear to me already. I understand and have told you that I don't expect you to be involved but we have had that conversation now so can we just agree that you find the idea of me being pg and having a baby difficult and I understand that and don't want you to have to be involved. Now can we accept that and move on so that we don't have to have the conversation again?"
Don't know... you may have already tried that...
It must be sooo frustrating for you.

GYo · 08/09/2008 15:57

Meant to ask Ses- how are you feeling? Any symptoms yet? Tis early days though..

Thanks Ses thats really interesting. Im very open to the idea that that there might be good reason behind her behaviour.

Thing is I've said a few times that I dont expect her to be involved, see pictures, hold baby etc. So its the fact that she keeps re-emphasising her dislike that is getting to me.....

DH is a good deal less tolerant than me and gets fed up with me when I complain about her comments and dont say anything to her...

He would definately back me up in dealing with the issue head on.

And thanks for encouragement with scan. Just not sure how insane I'll be feeling after another 3 weeks!

SesHasapinkline · 08/09/2008 15:47

Hi GYo!

Your friend does sound like she is a bit eccentric and as if she just totally doesn't understand the idea of having a baby. The fact that she's behaved in this way with other things though suggests to me that she may suffer with Aspergers. I don't normally like making judgements like that but it does sound possible, in which case she really probably doesn't realise how she's making you feel and she could be concerned about how the dynamics could change with you being pg and then with a baby.
Not condoning how she's reacted because it's been inappropriate but it really does ring bells of Aspergers.
I don't think you are being unreasonable. How do you think she'd react though if you said something to her to try and reassure her that you don't want her personally involved although you hope she can understand it is exciting for you and DH. What does your DH think?

GYo · 08/09/2008 15:30

Hi Ses- glad you have a date at least, even if it feels ages away. At least at 8wks you will see a HB... any time before that shows you a sac but thats it really.

When i went at 6wks they wrote uncertain viability all over my notes as they didnt see a HB (as you wont at those dates) - we chose to ignore that but it was quite disturbing....

Sorry not sure that will help much...

Sorry everyone, bit of a rant/ opinion needed please I?ve got a bit of an eccentric/weird friend and I?m not sure if I?m over reacting to something she has said.

I?ve know her for 4 or 5 years or so but she has this habit of not knowing where the boundaries sit when she is offering her opinions. When we told her about being preg I knew she wasn?t keen on babies (she refers to them as aliens) which is fine as I know its not for everyone so I was really pleased when she was sounding quite enthusiastic about it, while I'd never expect her to be hands on or even hold the baby, I do hope she doesn?t call my baby an alien to my face?.

After the scans I?ve had, she has made a point to saying a couple of times that she doesn?t want to see the picture - when I wasn?t going to send it to her anyway. She made this point again when I said we had a reasonable picture from Friday?s 12wk scan (she asked me how it went, I didn?t offer information).

Today she asked me if I?d have a bump by November (when we have something planned) I said ?maybe but I have a tiny one now if I feel in the right place? ? she responded to this and said well I wont be feeling it if you don?t mind. I certainly wouldn?t invite her or anyone other than my DH to feel it at any stage!

I am now borderline offended by her and think she is plain rude. Am I overreacting? If its at all relevant, she is nearly 40 and very single, never had a serious relationship with a DP etc. This isn?t the first time- she was similarly rude about the features of my wedding venue that I particularly liked- saying it wasn?t her taste? It just wasn?t her business to comment IMO.

Maybe this belongs on the ?am I being unreasonable? thread?..

Just home from work as my afternoon meeting was cancelled and my mind's just not on the job. Going to catch up on my emails from here.

I phoned the EPU and they just phoned me back and have arranged a scan for 1st October - that's a whole 3 weeks away!!! I'll be 8 weeks in theory then and I appreciate it will be 4 weeks earlier than my scan last time round but it just seems a long time away. They said they don't see you before then unless there is a sign that something could be wrong.

I ended up watching all the tennis last night. Following my afternoon sleepathon I wasn't really sleepy and then couldn't go to sleep. Murray did play really well and I think he has a chance against Federer. Not sure whether I'll be staying up tonight though.

Diege · 08/09/2008 14:36

Not long to wait now TINKS, though I tell you it's a girl! .
Phew, just done Davina's boxing workout - only 30 mins but quite good and not so tough you won't do it. CALS, I used to do cross-country and have also taught aerobics, but now just do videos and lots of walking. That think about ovulation...hmmm, well it has a grain of truth in that atheletes who train excessively and have a very low body mass index can fail to ovulate as their body isn't healthy enough to sustain a pregnancy, but we're talking running 50 miles a week and in the gym day and night...so ermm think a bit of gentle exercise would be fine (unless you are planning a 50 mile run ). I'm trying to get fit now and into the exercise habit so I can carry on without too much effort in a future pregnancy [smug emoticon]

calsworld · 08/09/2008 14:04

(But secretly a bit releived as am rubbish at doing girls hair!!! )

calsworld · 08/09/2008 14:03

Oh Tink - I do think its such a shame when you can't find out at the 20 week scan, but think its quite common not to - the other ladies must have been very lucky! Roll on 3 weeks, what is your gut feeling? I read somewhere that 9/10 women can correctly predict the sex when hypnotised - which I think means that inwardly we must know, IYSWIM?

I knew DS was a boy but didn't want to say anything in case people thought it meant that I would be disappointed with a girl, which I wouldn't have been.

calsworld · 08/09/2008 14:00

Diege, do you normaly do much exercise? I could do with losing some weight but (and no, this isn't just an excuse) I thought if I started now it could have a negative effecct on ovulation, or have I just made that up so I can continue being a lazy cow?

(Please be kind ladies )

tinkhasanactivebean · 08/09/2008 13:56

i so want to know what gender i am carrying seem to be only one on both threads who hasnt managed to find out 3-d scan is in just over 3 wks cant wait

Diege · 08/09/2008 13:53

Thanks Cals! I'll give 5live a shot I think, and see how long I can keep awake sitting at the laptop . Of course I could go old school and turn the radio on so I can lie in bed, though dh might not be too happy!
Right, I am going to do an exercise dvd as my weight loss has stabilised and I need to shift another half stone..

calsworld · 08/09/2008 13:49

Is this any use Diege? Perhaps you could listen live or again whilst MN?

Cosmogirl · 08/09/2008 13:40

Nah, nor me. Plus 10 pm is hours past my bedtime .

Diege · 08/09/2008 13:37

Nor us . Not sure I can be arsed with the radio tbh!

Cosmogirl · 08/09/2008 13:34

Yeah, that's no fair! Think it is on Sky Sports but we don't have it

Diege · 08/09/2008 13:24

Enjoy your pampering Cals

Can't believe BBC aren't televising US Open tonight . Will have to listen to 5Live instead - hardly the same thing

calsworld · 08/09/2008 13:13

I think I ought to get out of bed....

And maybe have a shower...

And have something to eat...

I've been promising myself a lazy day and after a manic weekend (at least it felt it as was first 'normal' weekend since mc) thought it should be today.

I'm starving though so am going to have to give up my cozy sanctuary and have a shower, and get dressed or I'm gonna miss my appt!

Cosmogirl · 08/09/2008 13:02

Ok - I'm holding you to that Diege!!

Diege · 08/09/2008 12:59

Aww Cosmo - you will get tp that blooming stage I promise, and it will be hard remembering how awful you felt - strange but true!
Well fridge is huge!! Didn't realise it had to stand for 12 hours so back to the freezer packs for another day!

Cosmogirl · 08/09/2008 12:42

Hi ladies,

Thanks for scan congrats. So glad we went for it.

Nat - our scanner is on the blink so haven't been able to upload the images.

Playing - sorry to hear you are still suffering - that is rubbish . My mw did say it should settle by 16 weeks. I still feel like poo (11 weeks tomo). Luckily work have been pretty good so far and after having two weeks of being signed off I have been told I can work from home until I feel ok to go back in. What meds are you on? If mine gets worse might have to go and see the GP, but because my MS is mainly nausea and dry heaving, not actual throwing up, I don't know if they would be able to give me anything.

Still haven't been able to face a hot dinner yet and tend to go to bed at about 7 most nights! Can't wait until I get to the stage where I might actually be able to enjoy being pregnant!

Diege · 08/09/2008 12:34

Cals, they have a great website where you can download all their leaflets, plus other useful bits and bobs. They also have e-mail contact details and responded when I e-mailed them within 48 hours. Was very impressed tbh. maybe worth a try for you? [smile[.
Arghh, fridge van is here

calsworld · 08/09/2008 12:21

Diege I know! DH hasn't twigged yet and I'm hoping when they call on Weds to narrow the window that they will say afternoon. I am very, very excited at the prospect of my new mattress and mattress topper I only hope it lives up to my expectations.

Playing, good to hear from you, was beginning to wonder if everything was OK with you. Sorry its been so hard for you, and hope it gets better soon.

Diege, I got some leaflets from the MA, and DH rang them to find out if there was anyone I could talk to, and he got some phone numbers of some people around my area - but that's been it - is there something I'm not tapping into?
